KL Slater is a magician! With every story she writes the tricks get better. You think you get a handle on where the story is going then with a slight of hand she changes everything.
The concept seemed simple and is written in multiple POV. Carrie is a nurse living with her sister, Alexa after her marriage broke down. She loves spending time with her niece Florence. Alexa seems unable to manage without Carrie much her to husbands concern. Carrie is suddenly suspended from work over a suspicious death and then Florence is hurt whilst in Carrie’s care.
Alexa doesn’t know what to believe but wants to help her sister.
The characters were great and the story unfolds at a fast pace.
Great read and can’t wait for the next novel.

KL Slater is one of those who I know can write an amazing thriller and this book is a perfect example! This book was truly unique, well written, and absolutely unputdownable! It had a storyline that I don’t think I’ve read before, in a thriller, but was riveting, thrilling, and chilling! So many twists and turns, shocks, thrills, and chills! Like hopping on a rollercoaster and getting thrilled and chilled to the max! Highly, highly recommend, as I think this was one of the best by this author and that’s saying a lot!

Will buzz around!

Carrie is a seasoned nurse when she's suspended after being the top suspect in a crime. She's currently living with her sister (Alexa), the only one who believes her sister is innocent. While watching Florence (Alexa's child), the child is injured. This is when Alexa really starts to question how well she knows her sister and begins doubting her involvement in a crime.

K.L Slater is an underrated book when it comes to thrillers. Just like her other book this one kept me on the edge of my seat with all the twists and turns.

*Thank you so much Bookouture, NetGalley and K.L Slater for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I can't wait to read more by her!*

3.5 rounded up for good twists

I have read several books by this author and they never disappoint! The writing, characters and pace on point. These particular characters were pretty unlikable as a whole. The second half of this story cruised along and delivered some fun twists. Will be on the lookout for the next one by KL Slater! Enjoy!

Oh dear!! My head is still spinning, and I blame the author K. L. Slater for the way she kept me twirling like a leaf in the storm.

I have to admit that I was arrogant enough to think I had the story all figured out and felt so proud of myself until the author took the sharp edge of her pen and hacked all my theories. This was one time where I was so happy losing.

2 sisters, Alexa with a family and child Florence, and Carrie who was a nurse down on her luck and was staying with Alexa to tide things over. A whistle-blower at work, after the deaths of a couple of patients, led to a police investigation. Carrie was in the center of it. Secrets were everywhere. Alexa was determined to help her sister and be there for her.

WHAT A THRILL!!

Kim has done it again, written a book so filled with uncertainties that I didn’t know which was the right way. Everything I thought I knew about the characters was cleaved to pieces. It was a thrill-a-minute, and it was done so subtly that I couldn’t help but bow down to the sheer brilliance.

This was one heck of a different story, unlike any thriller I have read so far. The usual formula was left far behind. I never knew a new approach like this would work. But damn. It did so brilliantly. Full credit to the author.

The story was told in multiple POV, but fear not, there was never any confusion.

The story hid more secrets than I knew, and each one felt apt.

The story went in so many directions, but it was still cohesive in all aspects.

The characters were friendly enough but kept to the edge of unlikable, but they didn’t alienate me.

Every character was turned inside out, but they still made sense.

How was it possible? I kept thinking about the story long after I finished it and realized only a genius puppeteer with well-outlined plotlines could fool me like this.

Wow!! Well played, Ms. Slater. We’ll meet again in the next book.

I've read most of K L Slater's novels and this one was as solid at the rest.

The story is told from the perspective of many different characters which added depth to it's development, lots of intrigue, suspicion and suspense with a well thought out plot with an ending that I didn't see coming!

A gripping thrilling psychological thriller! Lots of twists and suspense. Addictive! Carrie and Alexa are sisters, Carrie lives with Alexa and her family after getting divorced. The sisters are close. Told in many different perspectives which creates the constant question of whodunnit. Carrie is accused of some things at her job which is the hospital and Alexa thinks she couldn't possibly do these harmful things until something happens.
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy.

Two unusual death's at the hospital where Carrie works.
The evidence suggests she is guilty but does her sister Alexa believe she could do something like that. Carrie has always been there for Alexa.
Alexa's husband doesn't trust Carrie is right to not trust her.
The ending is worth reading this book for.
Thanks NetGalley

Being a huge fan of K.L.Slater I was super excited to get a chance to read her newest book. The author does a wonderful job of emersing the reader into the characters lives and I especially loved the medical aspect of it being in the medical field myself. The reader knows from the start that something just isn't right with the main character but I never guessed how this book ended. The change of points of views got a little confusing at first but it didn't take away from the storyline.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read this book.

Carrie & Alexa have always been close. Carrie is a senior nurse working in the A& E dept., having recently broken up with her husband she is staying with Alexa & her husband Perry. Carrie adores Florence her niece & Alexa knows the feeling is mutual. Perry however is fed up with Carrie being there & keeps on at Alexa to ask Carrie to find somewhere else. When a junior doctor informs the authorities of the suspicious deaths of two patients in the A& E dept. suspicion falls on Carrie. Perry is even more determined that Carrie should go & after Florence is hurt whilst Carrie is looking after her Alexa feels totally torn. But is Carrie all she seems to be?

KL Slater always provides a tense read with interesting characters. I don't think it is one of her best, but it is well worth reading. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

I really like K L Slater as an author and she writes a great thriller - this one didn't let up on the pace one bit and I literally read it in 2 sittings. It definitely didn't go the way I expected, so many twists! Very enjoyable read.

This has to be one of my favourites by Kat Slater, with relatable characters, each with their own secrets, and a story so cleverly crafted it will really keep you guessing right until the dramatic conclusion. The psychological thriller genre was created with this book in mind!

This is a must read for anyone who likes to get fully immersed in a gripping story

Alexa's life is torn apart when her sister is accused of murdering patients at the hospital where she works as a nurse. Carrie is living with Alexa and husband Perry folowing the break down of her marriage and Alexa's mental health concerns. She helps out with childcare for Alexa's one year old Florence. But with one of the victims being a baby, can Alexa still trust her own sister around her precious daugher...?
I found myself absolutely gripped by the plot of The Girl She Wanted. Alexa's dilemma and fears for her child are realistic and I think most readers would identify with her battle to trust her sister in light of the unfolding events at the hospital.
Alexa and her husband are already at odds as he feels Carries has outstayed her welcome. But Alexa relies on her sister and is afraid to leave the house without her sister to support her. We don't find out about the cause of Alexa's anxiety until two thirds of the way through the book and it is heartbreaking.
The style of writing is interesting as we have chapters from Alexa's first person perspective so see the effect of the accusations on her family and emotions. Other chapters are written in the third person to show the police investigation and the other family members and witnesses. This led me to be completely unsure about who Alexa could trust.
The Girl She Wanted is a great psychological thriller.
