I am absolutely loving this series! And Levi... Whew! He is just so responsible and so full of love. He just needs the right one to let him
love them. Beckett bless her is an absolute mess and not by choice. She is a people pleaser and puts everyone first including her austic father and brother. Becket and Levi are a lot alike in the fact they put their families needs first above everything else. The difference is Beckett’s family always makes her put them first. Levi’s family depends on him but not like Beckett’s.
I loved this book because Levi was there to help Beckett. He romanced her by simply helping her with her family. He let her depend on him. I also loved the supporting characters. I can’t wait for Grays story! I received an advanced copy for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this sweet and fun book! There was a lot of seriousness, but lots of laughs, too. These characters, their stories and their town are a lot of fun and I'm ready for the next one!
I love this series! I love the incorporation of two people on the Autism spectrum! It really resounded with me, the scenes with Beckett's brother and father. She had different struggles trying to keep her family together than I do with my one son on the spectrum.
Levi is the sweetest and most understanding guy! He sees the things Beck has to deal with and he doesn't ask any questions... Just steps in to help her when he feels she needs help. He doesn't do it in a way that is overbearing or bowls over her feelings and it's great.
The chemistry they sizzles between Beck and Levi is slow to surface but I think they both need it that way. It would not have worked if they just rushed into it.
I love getting to see Emmitt, Annie and Gray again! Emmitt and Gray provide some comic relief.
A fun romantic read! The characters were well written. Showing many emotions. I love a book that will make me chuckle out loud and Ms Adair gave me that and so much more. This is the second book in a series, but can be read as a stand alone as I did.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley for my voluntary, honest review.
Awesome read! Filled with tons of emotion, bits of humor, and lots of love. Beckett is such a giving, selfless character and one who deserves happiness more than most. Levi is the perfect person to help her find it! Great characters and a touching story make this and enjoyable read I would recommend to anyone. A definite must read.
Thoroughly enjoyed the Hopeless Romantic. Beckett and Levi are both very busy with their jobs and families and little time for romance. Beckett is helping her dad and brother, both on the spectrum of autism. Levi is one of three dads to Paisley. Soon they find themselves together planning a wedding and can't deny the attraction that they share, but will they follow the rules that they set up?
Great dialogue through out the book. Loved the family dynamics from both families. Well done on the autism spectrum. An added plus is the love of animals through out the story. So many laugh out moments.
This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. Looking forward to reading the next book.
I loved this book!! I laughed and i cried,, you cannot go wrong with this book by Marina Adair! I cannot wait for the next book in this series!!
I think at times we all find ourselves a little Hopeless Romantic which made me really enjoy this book and helped me to connect more with the characters. Challenges with romance and letting our guards down is definitely something that I think gets harder the more you date and when you are searching for that special someone.
This book is second in a series, of what I hope ends up having at least one more, and I did take the time to read the first one, Romeantically in Love to make sure that I was able to really be invested in Hopeless Romantic. Much like many romance novels that I have come across lately you don’t necessarily need to read them in order to understand the story line but it does have some of the main characters from both and I enjoyed having the knowledge of the other characters I thought that it truly helped me love this book even more.
The first book really outlines the family story and how they got to be three men raising one girl. I love getting to know all the characters and really do hope there is a third book about the third dad figure in this story.
Hopeless Romantic continues on by sharing the story about the second dad who was really around first during the daughters life. He is actually the uncle of the girl and helped his sister start raising her while he was young himself and in college. He had taken time to help out his family while putting his own romantic future on hold until its time for him to start moving forward.
I sincerely loved this book. I feel like I got to know the characters well. There was just enough action and twists happening with this book to keep you interested and wanting to know more. I truly feel that the author did a great job writing this book and made the readers really feel what was happening throughout the story.
Levi and Beckett have similar family commitments. They are both regimented in their lives and seem to be dealing with with each other in their own way. Beckett's family is dependent on her, while Levi's family is at a standstill. I really enjoyed this book. The characters were relatable, and there was a lot of feeling in this book.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. When I received this book, I realized this was book 2, I quickly read book 1 to get caught up. Hopeless Romantic was a little bit of everything I needed in life right now; humor, love and friendship. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and like it better than the first book. I would recommend this book (and series) to anyone who asked. I gave this book a 4 star rating.
A lovely, slow burn romance
This is the story of Becket and Levi, two people very much involved in the wellbeing of their families, as they navigate all kinds of hardships and fell in love with each other.
It starts adorably, with some hilarious moments and it progresses deeper as the family issues grow stronger and each character has to learn his and her lesson. It was interesting and beautiful to understand what a family composed of people on the spectrum has to deal with and how they see life. This is a strong part of the book, it is as much a book about this as it is about the romance.
Coming close to the end this left me with some mixed feelings. The family focused side of the story was a gain and eye opening for me, the hero and the heroine were lovely characters but along the way I didn't feel very close to them. A good read, I guess not right my alley.
I loved this book! The dialogue was great - so much tension in the relationship. I loved Beckett - such an amazing character. Really enjoyed this one and I can’t wait for book 3.
Beckett and Levi each put their families first. As they realize a zing of attraction, they wonder if it's possible to have a relationship and put someone else first.
They set up rules and support each other through family issues. This is a sweet story of love and awakening to a different life. Can they achieve happiness as they balance family and responsibilities? Read it to find out, you'll be glad you did. You'll laugh, cry, and cheer for this couple as they face obstacles.

One sentence review: A cute romance about two people, overburdened by family obligations, who manage to overcome obstacles and find love.
Hopeless Romantic by Marina Adair is book 2 in the When in Rome series. I loved the first book and was really excited to read this one.
Beckett Hayes is a woman juggling all kinds of responsibilities. As a caretaker for her autistic brother and father with Aspergers, Beckett often finds herself struggling to keep up with those around her, much less to have time for a personal life. Levi Rhodes is a successful businessman who understands the sacrifices you make for family.
I enjoyed Beckett and Levi a lot. The story has a mild enemies to lovers theme going on but that might be overstating it a bit. Instead this is really a story of two people overburdened with responsibilities who avoid long term entanglements because they are already overstretched. I liked the banter and back and forth between these two.
I also really enjoyed Beckett's interaction with her autistic brother. I have a lot of things to say regarding this aspect of the story, but unfortunately they are all sort of spoilery. Long story short, Beckett is put into a co-caretaker role at a very young age. What I appreciated was how the author outlines accommodations that Beckett makes in order to adapt to her brother's autism.
Overall I really enjoyed the story. There is a conflict at about the 85% point that really frustrated me. And honestly it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. It was quickly resolved but I found it a bit frustrating.
Overall though, I give this book a thumbs up for likable characters and for how the author addresses the responsibilities of caregivers of people on the spectrum. It isn't something I see a lot of, particularly in romance, so I really appreciated that aspect of the book.
This is the second in a series set in Rome (Rhode Island, not Italy) and features Levi and Beckett, who are close friends of Emmitt and Annie, the H/H from the first book. Levi and Beckett have been acquainted for years, but only really start getting to know each other once Annie and Emmitt start dating. Levi has been wanting to leave town for years but keeps getting bogged down with responsibilities to his family. Once he and Beckett start getting closer, he's torn between his desire to fly the coop and his growing attraction to her.
Beckett knows she'll be in Rome for life. She's got both a father and younger brother who are on the autism spectrum, and she's the one who stepped up when her mom ditched them all, and took on the task of managing the entire family and keeping them safe. Between growing her personal concierge business and cleaning up her family's emotional messes, she barely has two minutes in the day to call her own, so she usually steers clear of personal entanglements, but no matter how hard she tries, she can't keep Levi at arm's length. As they closer, the walls she's built to keep her heart safe start to crumble, but will Levi be there to catch her? This was an sweet romance, filled with emotion. It went off the rails just a bit at the end, where I feel like the author just threw in a manufactured conflict, then resolved it in the the space of just a few pages, but it was otherwise a satisfying read.
I really enjoyed Hopeless Romantic, the writing was good, the characters were likable ( more on that in a bit ) BUT…I wish I had known before reading it that it was a companion book to another one. Not that you really need it to be, it works fine as a stand-alone, but personally, I felt I was missing some backstory details that might have helped me understand the characters and maybe the setting a bit better.
The characters of the book were enjoyable and felt realistic to me. Levi was a local restaurant owner and seemed to also be the most eligible bachelor of the small Ride Island town. Becket is busy, she hasn’t the time for relationships her time is spent caring for a brother who has autism and her father who is also on the spectrum with Aspergers. Fate throws these two together when they have to work together on an upcoming wedding. I really liked Beckett, I found her hard-working and caring, but for me, Levi was a little less likable.
One of the things I really liked about the book is the family relationships with Becket's family. We were shown the struggles of the side characters and I appreciated the author sharing them allowing me a look into something I have never had the chance to come in contact with. They were well written and made me want to delve deeper and learn more. In fact, while the chemistry between Levi and Becket was great, I found myself looking forward more to reading about the brother and father.
While the book seemed to get a slow start on the romance, it did pick up, intact I am still debating if I felt the ending was too rushed, but overall Hopeless Romantic was a sweet and heartfelt book, that is easy to read, and great for the reader that likes to take the romance a bit slow.
Maybe it’s me. I was so excited to read Beckett and Levi’s story after not loving book 1 in the When In Rome series. But I honestly wasn’t any more impressed with the second book. This time, my issue wasn’t so much with the main couple (although I felt like Levi’s good guy personality was more than a bit tarnished by the end...but the pacing of the story was all over the map. It was a very, very slow burn for a bit more than half the book. Okay, I can deal with that. Then, things seemed to be clicking along until the inevitable possible relationship ender. But then the rest of the book rushed by in a less than satisfying way. I know not every book or series is for everyone and I just think this one isn’t for me. I’ve enjoyed many other books by Ms. Adair in the past and I’m sure I will again. But I’m going to sit out next book from Rome, Rhode Island.
*Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book for review, all opinions are my own*
I wanted to say that I can't talk about the representation of autism in this book, but from the little that I know, I found it very good and very well done.
This book is about family, how sometimes we put other people above us and our happiness, the book talks a lot about it in the view of the two characters.
In addition to talking about loss, grief, overcoming, love, family, responsibilities, and happiness.
It's a book that was not quick to read because I found the chapters too long which made the reading seem sluggish but it was nice nonetheless.
The romance is very cute and sexy at the same time, both characters are incredible and mature a lot during the story, the end I found the resolutions very fast.
But I highly recommend this book and the animals in it.
I was excited to go back to Rome and get Beckett’s story! Beckett was quite the character. I enjoyed her strength and her compassion. Her story was slightly sad but I was SO GLAD she had Levi in her life, even if she didn't recognize that right away. He was such a cheerleader for her and gave her what she didn't know she needed. She was fiercely protective of her family and she did what she needed to do to take care of them, even at her own expense. She was quirky and fun and I loved the breath of fresh air she brought to Levi. Levi had his own trauma and sadness he was dealing with in his life and he was drawn to Beckett. I loved the push/pull between them and the respect they had for one another. I couldn't read this book fast enough and I definitely recommend this read!
I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley. Hopeless Romantic by Marina Adair is the second book of her When in Rome Series. It could be read as a stand-alone, but I do recommend reading the first book as I enjoyed reading it as well. Beckett Hayes doesn’t have time for romance. She’s the caregiver for both her brother, who is autistic and her father, who is also on the spectrum and has been since her mother abandoned the family when she was sixteen. These responsibilities create havoc in her ability to keep a regular job, so she’s been trying to make her own business, a concierge service that will give her the flexibility she requires. When her love/hate relationship with marina and bar owner Levi Rhodes starts heating up, she’s sure it’s going to end badly. Still, Levi may be the one guy who understands giving up your dreams for family responsibilities. Watching these two kind and caring people find a way to a relationship and to make it work despite all obstacles made for a book that spoke to my heart. Plus, I’m going to giggle every time I wear matching socks.
