The Titanic Sisters by Patricia Falvey is a saga of two Irish sisters. Any book connected with the famed and doomed Titanic interests me. This novel was no exception.

Delia and Nora Sweeney have been provided the means to travel to America, one to be a maid in New York and one to be a governess. The two are as different as night and day and are not very close to each other. When the Titanic goes down, Delia is saved, but Nora has not been found. Delia chooses to take Nora’s place as the governess.

As the story progresses, and we read about each sister, the reader can only hope that each girl will finally have happiness in their life. This is a very well-written story and was interesting and the plot was well-thought-out.

I received a Kindle copy of this book from NetGalley in return for my honest review.

Based off the title, I was expecting this book to be about 2 sisters on the Titanic. They were on the Titanic but not for as long as I would have liked. I thought this was going to be more Titanic focused. A huge letdown and predictable.

I thought this may have more information about the titanic itself but it did focus on the sisters, who I did not find particularly likeable and I was not as engaged as I hoped.

I really tried to get into this book because it was about the Titanic voyage. However, I could not like the characters, especially Nora. Nora was very mean to her sister and selfish. The Titanic details were slim. Thus, it had a lot of potential but not executed well.

I just couldn’t get into this book. Not that it’s bad or anything. It just wasn’t for me. This book could be the perfect book for someone else.

When a letter comes from America to a poor farm in Ireland, asking for one of the girls to take a position as governess to their cousin's daughter after her mother's untimely death, Delia knows it won't be her. Nora has always been their mother's spoiled and treasured daughter while Delia was resented for being the surviving twin when her brother was stillborn. Her father always showed her his love, but decisions like this were always made by their overbearing mother. But when her father puts his foot down and sells Nora's first class ticket on the Titanic for two steerage tickets and a position as housekeeper for the Boyle family, Delia is grateful for her chance at adventure. But when tragedy strikes and the ship sinks, Delia believes Nora drowned. When she disembarks in America and sees the kindly housekeeper for the O'Hanlon family that Nora would have worked for, she tells a little white lie and says she's Nora. And after meeting and falling in love with her charge Lily, it becomes even harder to tell the truth.
From the title of the book I was disappointed that it wasn't more about the Titanic, but the story was still fascinating. The fact that these Irish women were coming over to find their opportunity in America, completely dependent on their employer for their livelihood would be terrifying to me. I loved the resilience of Nora and how even after almost drowning in the Titanic disaster, she sails across the ocean twice more.
I received an advance reader copy of this book through NetGalley. The views and opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I would like to thank Kesington books and this site for allowing me to read this book.

We find Delia Sweeney who does not look at all like her older sister. She is small and delicate, while Nora is tall and dark. Nora is the favorite, she intends to marry a rich man. Delia is always on the sidelines and only feels good on the farm. One day they receive a letter from America.

A distant relative pays them both a trip to the United States, they board the Titanic in Queenstown Cork, the famous liner for its maiden voyage. After the voyage Delia takes Nora's place as governess. These adventures will take them from 5th Avenue to Dallas, Texas.

I read this book in one sitting and was immediately hooked on the story, which is so gripping, captivating, addictive, full of suspense and twists and turns with very endearing characters. I love the author's writing, I can't wait to read more of her books.

I personally will read anything about the Titanic and this book helped satisfy a need for that type of material. Unfortunately my library system may not end up purchasing this title because it isn't mainstream enough but I will be putting in the rec to order.

Beautiful and emotional! A first by me by This author and it didn't disappoint. I loved how the story of The Titanic was just the beginning. Both sisters so different from the other. Tragedy finds them and they are separated. Each character was interesting and more so the ending! A great historical, family drama mixed with romance. A must read!

I was taken by surprise at just how much I enjoyed, and was impressed, by this compelling historical drama of two diametrically opposed sisters as they leave Donegal and step aboard the Titanic for the promise of new futures in New York.

An intriguing historical novel about two sisters and their lives after the Titanic disaster. There are many twists and turns during the course of this book that holds the reader’s interest in finding out things turned out for both of them. I didn’t like the profanity and I wish there had been much more about the Titanic itself. There was also one sexual scene that’s not necessary for the story. This would not be a book that I would recommend for readers of Christian fiction, but those who enjoy general romance fiction would like it.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

The Titanic Sisters
by, Patricia Falvey
Many thanks to NetGalley, Patricia Falvey and Kensington Publishing Corp for providing me the opportunity to read and review and advanced readers copy of this book.
Nora and Delia are two sisters living in Donegal Ireland during the early years of the 20th century. These two sisters are as different as night and day...
Living in a farm operated by their father, this was a family who was poor and lived very modestly.
Nora was the apple of her mother’s eye...she could do no wrong. Her mother was determined to provide a better opportunity for her daughter, no matter what.
Delia, the younger sister, was often treated very poorly by both her mother and her sister. Most of her time was was spent alone reading and dreaming of an adventurous life away from her life on the farm in Donegal.
As luck would have it, a nanny position was available in New York City. Nora was chosen to cross the ocean and take this position.
Delia felt defeated. She wanted so much more from life. After pulling some strings, a cleaning position was found for Delia, also in New York City. The girls were going across the ocean on the majestic H.M.S. Titanic!
As we all know, the maiden voyage of the Titanic was a grave disaster. Thousands of people perished. Amongst the chaos of the sinking ship, the girls were separated. Only one sister walked off the Carpathia at the New York Harbor. Life changes drastically fir this particular sister. Find out where life takes her and who she meets along the way!
The story produces many twists, turns and surprises throughout the story so you must read it to the end!

A huge thanks to Kensington, Patricia and NetGalley for this review copy! It was so good and a truly wonderful read.

Nora and Delia, sisters from Donegal, get the opportunity of a lifetime, to sail on the Titanic and make new lives for themselves in New York. However, an iceberg completely changes both of their courses and fate intervenes. Nora, the lavish fashion forward sister and Delia, the bookworm are not close sisters. They spend all their time aboard the Titanic apart. What happens when the Carpathia docks in New York and one sister is thought to be dead and the other changes her direction and takes a chance.

This book was so detailed and easy to read. The story flowed so easily and I simply couldn’t put it down. I thoroughly enjoyed it and definitely recommend!

It was hard to get into the story. I really wanted to, but the sisters seemed one dimensional, it was hard to like them or feel a connection to them.

The Titanic Sisters is a captivating novel set in rural Ireland, then the Titanic, then Texas and New York. Two sisters who have been pitted against each other by an abusive mother find themselves on the Titanic traveling towards new lives in America. The tragedy on the Titanic sends them in much different directions than anticipated, and lies and deception complicate the tale.

This is a well written story of two sisters who experience pain, loss, and tragedy. This is a saga of sisters more than it is a book about the Titanic. The development of the characters is very well done.

I received a free copy of this book from the publishers via Netgalley. My review is voluntary.
