A really sweet little children’s book; 1-3 grade. My niece is 4 years old and learning to read. This is a sweet book that I would love to buy the book and the audio (both) for her to encourage her love of learning to read.

Piper is missing her brother and going through some growing pains in getting used to some adjustments at home. As a second grader, she likes to push the boundaries a bit. She just makes me smile thinking about her/Piper.

Thank you NetGalley and the Author/Ellen Potter for the opportunity to listen to an advance read copy of Piper Green and the Fairy Tree in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very sweet story about a little girl who lives on a small island, and how she is feeling when her brother moves away for high school.

I really liked this story and my 8 and 9 year old daughters both enjoyed listening to it in the car to and from school too. The younger was a little dissapointed that there were not more actual fairies though - so do not be misled by the title.

I was hoping it was going to be a bit of a fable with a moral or lesson, however it is not. There are some moments where it was good to turn it off and talk about what was going on in the story for Piper and ways in which she or her parents could have handled things differently. The kindly neighbour was great though.

Overall, I think this would be a great little book for kids who are just moving into chapter books and reading for themselves. With short chapters and an easy to follow storyline, I think it would keep them engaged and wanting to read more to see what happens.

My first grader gave this audiobook rave reviews. She listened to the whole thing in one sitting and the proceeded to talk me through the stories. She loves the fairies, the headphones (ear muffs?), and the magic. A big hit for my almost 7 year old!

This is a middle grade, and this is the first book in the Piper Green series. I listen to the audiobook for this book. The narrator was good and the audiobook was short. I think young children will really enjoy this book. I really love the message in this book. I really wish the characters had more development, but overall I enjoyed this book. I was kindly provided an e-audiobook of this book by the publisher (Live Oak Media) or author (Ellen Potter) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

The story is such a cute one! I ordered the book as soon as I finished the audiobook. The book is perfect for children who are just getting into reading as it uses simple language and is a fun story. If you do get the ebook or the physical book, the illustrations are amazing! What made me laugh a lot were the chapter names.

I did not find the narrator to be apt for this, though. The voice was very sharp and wasn't enough to keep up a child's attention.

"Piper Green and the Fairy Tree" is a sweet story for young listeners. The narrator is FABULOUS for this book. She captures the voice and nuances of a young child perfectly!

The story is not exceptional, but it's a cute one that children (& their adults!) will enjoy. The details about modern life on a small island will draw-in many readers, too - taking a boat to school is not the average experience! Yet for all those differences, Piper is a relatable and realistic character.

How Piper adapts to the changes in her life is resolved imperfectly, but that makes it more realistic, too. It's a happy ending, even if not the ending she may have wanted at the beginning of the book.

The narrator did a good job of portraying the right types and amount of emotion. while telling the story (though I did not personally enjoy her voice). The story itself has some good moments of Piper Green trying to cope with the changes of the new school year and her new family dynamic. It bothered me that her lack of adult support at school was never addressed. The ending was cute. Altogether, it was not a bad story, but not exactly exceptional.

Piper Green's big brother had to leave their island to go to school on the mainland and she isn't happy. She misses her brother a lot and wears the earmuffs he gave constantly. Her family and teacher are worried about her. Can she get over her feeling of loss and what does the fairy tree have to do with it?
A cute book about family and coping with missing a loved one. It's a great book for students who had a friend or family member move away.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book and I really enjoyed it the narrator did a great job at sounding like a little girl. I also enjoyed how she did the voices for the other characters too. Children will love to listen to the book on a road trip.

I had been looking for audiobooks that my four and half years old son could relate to and would listen to. This audiobook was definitely a winner. He listened to the entire story, and I have to say, I also enjoyed listening to it. The narrator speaks with enthusiasm and clarity which I think were crucial in helping my son stay engaged.

The story itself is about a girl and the usual daily thoughts and struggles of a young child. The story was simply written and easy to follow, yet not monotonous.

🧚🏻‍♀️I came across the award winning author Ellen Potter's audio book and immediately decided to hear with my seven year daughter. She was excited to listen story with her Mom and moreover discuss!! Yes. She loved it and shared her insights instantly which were helpful for me too to know child's perspective!

🧚🏻‍♀️I thank @netgalley, @ellenpotterauthor for the audio copy and I thank my daughter Tia too.

🧚🏻‍♀️Piper Green and the Fairy Tree is a sweet story featuring a strong headed second grader girl Piper living on Peek-a-boo island off the coast of Maine. She travels on lobster boat to attend school. She misses her elder brother Eric terribly. She manifests this ache in her heart by wearing his earmuffs all the time. But that is not allowed in school and she doesn't want to stop wearing for which Miss Arabella punishes her. She decides to give school a miss and hides on a tree to discover later that tree is crying. She finds out eventually that the tree is actually magical and more interesting facts about it. There are more surprising elements further in storyline.

🧚🏻‍♀️The narration was interesting and superb that my kiddo already listened thrice! Infact it being a first part of series,I personally found it short. Voice overs for all characters were done brilliantly by @taviagilbert.

My Rating: 3 Stars

Piper Green: noun. Spunky and big-hearted female 2nd grader who misses her 14-year-old brother terribly. She manifests this ache in her heart by insisting on wearing green monkey earmuffs and playing hooky from school. After some misadventures, all is made right in the end.

I just have to say, Tavia Gilbert does a phenomenal job narrating this book. She really brings the book to life and makes it interesting. Her voices for each character are so distinct, I actually listened to parts of the book over again specifically to figure out if there really was just one person narrating the book or if there was a full cast that, for whatever reason, wasn’t listed in the credits. Her voices for each character really are that distinct from one another! It blew me away. Her voice for Piper Green is mildly nasal-y, but not unbearable. She also nails the voice inflections for the unsure-but-determined Piper and the Eastern accents for the adults in the book. From my perspective, Tavia Gilbert makes the book.

My kids listened to this book with me and loved it so much they wanted to listen to it several times over again (It’s only about 45 minutes in length from start to finish). The plot, while entertaining for my 3- and 5-year old, didn’t impress me too much. There is arguably no resolution to the conflict and the story ends abruptly. However, Tavia Gilbert’s expert reading makes up for this.

On a more positive note, the content in this book was 100% family-friendly, which I love. There were messages of respect for adults, strong family bonds, and a strong sense of community on the little fishing island where Piper and her family live. There was absolutely no crude language--not even the unsavory toilet humor in so much of today’s juvenile literature (Huzzah!).

If you’re looking for a short listen for the whole family, this audiobook may be for you. Don’t expect anything profound from the plot, but do anticipate having an entertaining narrator.

Content Guide:

Sex & Affection--None
Language--None (Not even crude humor!)
Drugs, Alcohol, & Substance Use--None
Violence & Crime--A girl skips school, her parents speak to her in stern tones but nothing approaching violence or abuse of any kind.

Piper Green and the fairy tree is a cutely told children's book about a little girl called Piper who lives on a small island with her family.
This is the first book in the series.
Piper is quite a strong minded and strong willed child who gets herself in trouble at times for being so strong willed and stubborn.
Piper hears the tree crying one day and discovers something unusual within it....
Children will love this book, however I did feel it was quite short.

A charming tale of an outspoken 7 year old, life on an island in Maine, riding a lobster boat to school, a new teacher in town, and a fairy tree. Such a fun and whimsical story. This is a cute children's audiobook that I listened to with my daughter. The story is about a 7 year old girl called Piper who skips school and finds a magical fairy tree which gives her some beautiful gifts. I enjoyed this little story and my daughter did too, especially at the end. The narrator of the book had a lovely voice which was very uplifting.
