Unfortunately this book just wasn’t for me. The tiring style was choppy and hard to follow. Although I didn’t love the book it seems like I’m in the monitory and I wouldn’t shy away from reading it if it’s a writing style you enjoy.

This book was an enjoyable read, but I do not know if I fully connected with the plot or the characters in any way. The characters were not likable to me, and the plot jumped around too much for me to always understand what was going on. I do wish it had lived up to the synopsis blurb that I read.

Despite this, I had a good time reading this I think. I would give this author another read in the future.

There were a lot of characters in this book and at times it was confusing. It was a ride for sure. It held my interest and kept me turning the pages to find out if my suspicions were correct. Not my favorite, but definitely worth a read.

A jumpy all over the place thriller that I just could not read or even understand. I'm so disappointed as the synopsis sounded so promising too.

This read broke a reading slump for me in the best way! I was fully vested from the start and along for the ride straight through to the end. I argued with the main character at a few points along the way and got more than a little frustrated a time or two with the decisions she was making.
Going home is never easy, especially when you are estranged from the mother that waits there for you. Loaded with relationship dynamics and lies that have to be navigated like landmines, Sibley is in for a challenge as she returns to the Midwest home of her youth.
Filled with twists and turns that will keep you guessing and turning pages, I love plot twists that are not predictable and take me by surprise - The Imposter delivers.

I feel like this book took me forever to finish. I wasn't invested in any of the characters or the plot. I will say it was a bit weird and some of the twists I didn't see coming. Giving this one an average rating.

The Imposter by Marin Montgomery is a twisty and confusing psychological thriller. Neither of the main characters are at all likeable and the story jumped all over the place. A divorce lawyer with a serious drinking problem and her estranged mother reunite and try to uncover the family secrets and lies.

A twisty turn-y thriller that has very unlikeable characters and leaves you wondering what is happening? Did the character want that to happen? I found this one hard to get into and finished the book wondering if I really understood what the author was trying to say. Maybe I did not like the author's writing style but I think it might have been that I did not understand the mindset of the characters. I would skip this one and find another thriller if you are looking for a fun twisty ride.

Tbh, this book was confusing…. In some parts, I found it hard to keep up with the twists!

—————————-

From the outside looking in, Sibley Sawyer has a perfect life. As a successful attorney, she's worked hard to get to the top of her game--but when her personal and professional lives implode, Sibley looks for a way to turn the page.

Unable to shake the tragic circumstances that caused her to flee her rural Midwestern hometown, Sibley wants nothing more than to reunite with her estranged mother, Deborah, and bury their past tensions.

But as she reenters the life she left behind, she realizes her mother isn't the same person she remembers, and she's not the same daughter either.

As both women struggle to piece together a tangled web of deceit and lies, and the shocking circumstances that caused Sibley to leave in the first place, it becomes clear there are secrets rooted deeper than either mother or daughter could ever have imagined.

Can you really deceive your past and those around you?

This book did not do justice to the blurb.

The characters were not the least likable, the way the story unraveled made little sense, and I did not enjoy reading the book at all. This was one of my first review books, and I finished it because I had not discovered the DNF.

Maybe if you’re more patient than me you’ll like this but I found it to be a mess. Not much more for me to say honestly just didn’t like it.

I was hooked right away when Deborah, an older woman living alone, is attacked at her house. After receiving letters from her estranged daughter, she is shocked when her daughter Sibley shows up unannounced after 16 years since last seeing each other. Secretly skipping out on rehab to face her past, Sibley immediately finds more questions than answers. The more she pushes her investigation forward, the stranger things get around the farm. Who is keeping bigger secrets, Sibley, or her mother? And who has more to lose?

I thoroughly enjoyed this psychological thriller!
I don’t always love an unreliable narrator but this was perfectly orchestrated. The back and forth POV made it clear that the characters perspectives did not line up, leading perfectly into a riveting plot filled with twists.

This is quite possible the slowest moving book I’ve ever encountered. Really I wanted nothing more to lose myself in its pages but couldn’t quite get there due to my eyes glazing over.

I DNF'd this one a while ago, unfortunately. No rating. I remember being confused, possibly because of the formatting of the e-galley. I will likely give this a go in physical format at some point.

Sibley and her mother Deborah have been estranged for many years. Deborah still lives on the farm where Sibley grew up, even though a tragedy that occurred there, made Deborah an outcast in the community, This made Sibley decide to leave and never look book. What can the distant past leave and never look back. But all that happened in the distant past, so how could it still be controlling these women’s lives?

When we first meet Sibley, she is not having a good day. Her drinking may cost her everything; her career, her marriage, maybe even her life. Rather than checking into a rehab facility, Sibley decides to head home, hoping to uncover the truth about what happened to her father sixteen years ago. Sibley feels that confronting her mother will free her from the past, and perhaps even allow her to heal.

But Sibley isn’t prepared for what she finds. Her childhood home has fallen into disrepair and her mother seems like a different person. Deborah is sure that someone is watching her and wishes her harm. Even though she has few friends, she can’t imagine why anyone would want to hurt her. Then Sibley arrives, and even she seems to have ulterior motives.Soon, these two will be unable to trust each other.
I don' want to give too much of the story away. I liked how the events unfold through Deborah and Sibley’s eye. It's a tale of secrets and lies, and though I did figure out who the bad guy. I never guessed the whole disturbing truth

Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

This book definitely gave me the chills from the start, which I love in a thriller! I was totally immersed in the plot from the very beginning. If you’re looking for a thriller that sucks you in quickly to get lost in then trying picking this one up. Will definitely read more from this author!

I really tried to get into this book but inevitably failed. I didn't enjoy it and couldn't finish. I wasn't able to connect with the characters nor the story.

Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and Netgalley for providing me with the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
