I’m used to stories told by different narrators but this one was a bit difficult to keep track of. And I did not like that there were still mysteries to solve even after the epilogue. What happened to Soren?? But if you stick with the story to midways, you’ll have to keep on because by then you’re invested & want to know what happens next, as one does with any good mystery. This is a solid 3 stars, almost 4, but it was a rough start for me. Not one of Ms Montgomery’s best, she has some fabulous ones out there.

Thank You to the Author and to Netgalley for sharing an ARC with me in exchange for my honest review.
Honestly, I loved this book. I have been in a huge reading slump lately but this book was just everything. It had a good writing, story, amazing characters.
The setting of this book was so intriguing and added to the entire story so much. I absolutely loved how the book ended and it was quite satisfying. Though I was sad it ended. Overall, the twists and the story kept me on the edge of my seat.

I love a book with a lot of twists and turns and this one was loaded with them.

I also love a book where you suspect every person at some point in the book which I did. Great, great read that I was thrilled to read and review. I will definitely be looking for additional books by this author!

Thank you to the author and netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to read this story!

The Imposter by Marin Montgomery was a solid read. I enjoy books set in the present and the past. The character development and storyline kept me interested throughout the entire book. Both main characters were unreliable, and it was unsettling – this is a great feeling for a psychological thriller! The twists were good and unforeseen. I will check out other books written by this aauthor.

***** I received an ARC from NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my honest review. *****

This book is a little confusing from the start, as the summary shows that Sibley is the main character, yet it opens with an extended section about her mother, Deborah. I wonder if that was the idea, to put you off kilter from the start. It's essentially a story about coming to terms with the past and long held beliefs that aren't as accurate as they were always believed to be. Sibley has returned to her Midwest family home in lieu of the rehab she was supposed to check into as a term of her suspension at work. She's a functioning alcoholic in denial who is given too many chances and her marriage is as up in the air as her career.

Nevertheless, she decides on coming home and surprising her mother, who is much more on edge and anxious than Sibley remembers. Deborah was the victim of a home attack and now hardly ever leaves, and has let the farm fall into disrepair. She's seeing a therapist and is on a lot of medication which she believes will help overcome her fragile mental health. She and Sibley communicate awkwardly and their interactions are short and stunted. Sibley thinks Deborah is in a terrible state yet is determined to have her explain events from the past that Sibley believes framed their entire future. It's the typical 'leave the past in the past' vs. ' I have a right to know' scenario. There's a lot of miscommunication and missed opportunities to just open up and let the secrets spill. The final resolution is satisfying, yet feels a long time coming.

It's a good story about the perseverance of family overcoming the consequences of the choices made in both the past and present. Anyone who reads it is sure to relate to one part or another, leading to their own reflection on life and love..

3.5 rounded up to 4
Thak you NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I'm not sure what I really expected here and going in cold was a bonus. I enjoyed the twists and while some were predictable, others were not.

I have read other Marin Montgomery books! I was eager to get my hands on this because everyone knows how much I LOVE an unreliable narrator... esp when I start to question my own sanity only to be thrown for another loop! What a hot mess! I loved it!

Deborah lives alone on her family farm after her husband died suspiciously 16 years ago and her daughter Sibely left shortly after. Deborah is dating her neighbor but also appears to be losing her grip with reality; seeing people who aren’t there, thinking she got pushed down the stairs, bouts of mania and depression.
Sibley is a divorce lawyer whose marriage and career are on the line due to her drinking. She is put on leave from her job to go to rehab and her husband thinks she cheated on him. She agrees to go to rehab but instead returns to her hometown to reconcile with her mother.
Not much happens within the story as both characters struggle with reality and seem to alternate levels of consciousness as the story goes on. The story is mostly a list of revealed secrets from the past leading up to what is causing Deborah's state of mind. The reader is unsure of how much they can trust either narrator (Sibely or Deborah) as neither character seems to be able to distinguish between reality and hallucination.

Twist and turns galore!
This is a book that has a lot going on in it. The story starts out with Deborah. She begins hearing banging on her front door so when she goes to the door with the gun she ends up slipping on the ice but then someone kicks her in the head and she becomes unconscious.
Thousands miles away her daughter Sibley, a really successful amazing divorce attorney, ends up getting suspended at her firm and her husband is completely convinced that she is having an affair. So, during her difficult time Sibley decides that she wants to try to mend her relationship with Deborah. So once she returns to the small town she realizes fairly quickly that her mother wasn't the woman she had known. Then, the real twist, turns, secrets and history come back to haunt them both.
I really enjoyed this story. The plot and storyline were great, the pace was great and I was definitely hooked. I had to know what happened!!! I will definitely look for more from this author but I did enjoy this book. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who really enjoys domestic thrillers or thrillers that involves family history and broken families!

This book defines the term “unreliable narrator”. By the end, my head was spinning and I had no idea whom to trust. The twists and turns were there and it definitely kept me guessing but I didn’t connect with either of the main characters because of my mistrust of their intentions and true backstory. Not a win for me. 2.5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I thought The Imposter was a great read! There's a lot of back and forth which got confusing at times - I found that I had to re-read some of the sections. Quick paced and it will keep you guessing. If you like a good twisty, psychological thriller, I would recommend this book..

I thought The Imposter was a great read! Interesting plot, quick paced and it will keep you guessing until the end. I will say that there is a lot of back and forth which got confusing at times - I found that I had to re-read some of the sections to have a better understanding. But nonetheless, if you like a good twisty, psychological thriller, I would recommend this book.

Marin Montgomery is a new author to me but I'm happy to have discovered her. I'm looking forward to checking out her other books.

Thank you, NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer, and Marin Montgomery for giving me the opportunity to read the book in exchange for my honest review.

This book did a great job of keeping me guessing. It was hard to tell who the good guys vs the bad guys were. Just when I thought I had it figured out there was a twist.
I really like the way the story went from present day to the past. Its interesting learning what shaped the characters into the people they are.
There were a lot of things going on in this story and I have to say sometimes it was too much. And the ending reminded me of a Charlie Chan or Scooby Doo show where at the end they are all in a room and the detective goes around the room telling everyone what happened and who did it.
Overall this was a really good book and I do recommend it!
Thanks Netgalley for the ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you netgalley for a arc. This is a new author for me, I usually stray from domestic thrillers but this was a pleasant surprise. There are definitely a lot of questions throughout the end of the book but I find it keeps you wanting to understand the characters thought process. Will definitely be looking into more books by this author

Unfortunately this was a DNF for me!! I read this author's other book and loved so I was super excited for this one but it just didn't do it for me. I'm so sorry!

If you love a complex mystery that keeps you hooked, this is it! The author did a great job of leading you in different directions and keeping you guessing what exactly is going on - and also did a great job of tying things together. I wanted to slap Sibley to make her stop drinking, the author did such a great job portraying addiction and how powerless someone can be against it. I really hate when authors create complex plots then bam, everything is resolved in one page and you feel like you're missing something - but not here, not at all! The resolution was tapestried together and satisfying - definitely a page-turner to find out what's happening next. Highly recommended! I will look for more from this author.

I received an advance copy of, The Imposter, by Marin Montgomery. Sibley wants to reunite with her estranged mother, Deborah, but they have both changed. I thought this was on ok book. It was slow to start, it goes back and forth a lot.

I really loved this book. I enjoyed the struggles of the characters and they're bad habits. They were relatable to a certain degree and I appreciated that the author didn't make them perfect. It was nice to see people with real problems struggling to overcome their issues. I also loved the mother, daughter drama! As someone who has moved away from family (not my mom, in case she reads this) it was nice to see people portrayed wth real life issues and family baggage.

I felt the back and forth between characters was too confusing. I was often having to reread portions because the point of view would change. I thought the writing was well done but the plot line came to fruition too quickly at the end. It was a slow burn but very slow.

The finale just ended the book rather abruptly and you were left to put together the pieces of what happened. I thought the book was a little scattered and I usually had no idea what was going on and not in a good way.

Overall, I do recommend this read because it will completely leave you guessing. The plot line was solid.

Sorry to say this book wasn’t for me. Didn’t like the writing style and the whole plot and storyline was just a big mess. To say it was confusing is putting it mildly! There also wasn’t any connection to the characters and never really got to know them. Alot of details that didn’t make sense. The best part of the book was the ending. Would definitely not recommend this book. Thank you netgalley for letting me give an honest review of this book.
