Lela and the Butterflies is an adorable picture book by Sherri Maret.
I LOVE butterflies, so this book was a natural pick for me. This picture book combines the love and joy of fun picture books with the excellence of learning from non-fiction. The butterfly walk is a great way to introduce butterflies and share some information with the book's audience. The illustrations are also beautiful, to top off this fantastic story!
I think this book would be suitable for Grade 1s and up.
Honestly, this book is a real gem! I love this story. It's a handy tool for learning that is also buckets of fun.
Four out of five stars.

This was a well written children's book with plenty of pretty pictures and a simple storyline to engage readers. It's great to teach children about the stages of a butterfly and how to help to keep them safe.
This is a wonderful little children's book explaining butterflies and how to attract them to your yard. Lela loves butterflies and on a nature walk near her home she learned how to attract butterflies to her yard. The Ranger describes several different types of butterflies and the plants and flowers they love. Lela and her family create a garden at home with all the butterflies favorite flowers. The garden continues to grow and she shares her seeds with neighbors and with her class at school. This is a great book to get kids interested in creating a butterfly garden at home. There are step by step instructions at the back of the book on how to do this at your home as well.
I received an electronic ARC from Rowman & Littlefield through NetGalley.
Lela loves butterflies and learns all she can about them. I appreciate how the author weaves informative text into the narrative for elementary level readers. As the family joins Ranger Maggie on a nature walk, they see all sorts of butterflies in their natural habitats. After seeing the butterfly garden at the nature center, Lela wants to create one at her home. The family creates this space, and readers learn along with Lela when butterflies arrive. Finally, some monarchs lay their eggs and the life cycle is shared. The lesson to create more butterfly spaces is also woven in as Lela shares seeds from her garden with others.
The illustrations pull readers in and show realistic portrayals of the various butterflies.
Excellent book to introduce a butterfly unit for middle elementary level.
A fun and informative story about Lela and her quest to provide butterfly gardens all around her! There is information on planting and identifying butterflies as well.
