So it's a book full of fun art, and it includes lots of French and Spanish words, but I'm really not sure what the author wants us to take from the story. Friendship is more important than love? Never get on a ship with a cockroach and termites? Jazz conquers all? It's jam packed with lots of events and animals and words, and it feels just a little too crowded for its length.

An ok children's book, I liked the bilingual aspect and encouraged children to learn Spanish, French and English simultaneously, I didn't love the story too much and I felt the accompanying audio track could have really represented the Caribbean spirit more.

We love the Jazz Fly books! We are a music loving family and appreciate the series so much. This one did not disappoint!

This is a bizarre, yet fun, children's book about Jazz Fly and his friends, who go on Captain Cockroach's jazzy cruise ship and have a fun adventure while playing their musical instruments. My daughter and I liked this book, especially the beautiful, bright graphics and the fact that we got to learn a lot of French and Spanish words.

HOW FUN!!! What a fun little book that combines 3 languages!! You get a little english, a little french, and a little spanish all while exploring the open seas on a fancy cruise ship at the hands of Captain Cockaroch! This is a perfect book for kiddos between grandes prek-2nd grade for sure. You'll get lots of giggles while mesmerized by the beautiful pictures. Such great option for a read-along!

The band returns in their third book. This time they're on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. While they're playing and the passengers are dancing, a storm blows in and damages the boat. Everyone escapes and the band has quite the adventure traveling in the sea until being reunited and heading off on their next adventure.
Gollub weaves three languages throughout the book - English, French, Spanish (and four if you count Jazz). He provides a glossary at the beginning and end of the book along with further informative text at the end. The illustrations and swirling words show the music and movement throughout. A link to music to go along with the rhythmic text is provided before the story begins. A fun read aloud for families or classes.

Jaxz fly 3 is a new adventure for jazz fly & his band. The Caribbean sea is the first i have read in this series. Upon first read i thought this story was just ok. However, after listening to the audio excerpt I enjoyed it a lot more. The book and audio are definitely meant to go hand in hand. For starters, it sound so much better to hear the author read and play jazz music than in my voice & tone. Its also great to have the book as well for the illustrations and to physically see the Spanish and French words. I can tell this is a great series just from reading & listening to this book alone. It will be a lot of fun for children while also introducing them to other languages.

This book would be cute to read to any child that was fascinated by insects. I have a daughter who loves bugs, and she enjoyed this book. This would be great for a preschool or kindergarten class. The illustrations are adorable. Cute, fun read.

Bugs Bugs Bugs! This book is full of insects and fun words. The illustrations are vibrant as are the words. The page design leaves a little to be desired, but overall it's a fun little book.

Jazz Fly 3 tells the story of the Jazz Fly and his friends, starting aboard Captain Cockroach's jazzy cruise ship, but when the ship sinks who will help the jazz band find their lost friend Nancy? French and Spanish words are presented throughout, mostly as dialogue among the characters in the illustrations rather than as part of the primary story text. A translation key for the French and Spanish is included at the beginning of the book.

The illustrations in this book are adorable! What a joy to look at. The audio sample of the CD that would be included with the print book sounds great, too. I love the jazz music! I do think reading along with the audio track, jazz music included, is probably the best way to experience this book.

The plot was a little confusing to me. We're introduced to legitimate crew and passengers of the ship, then we meet stowaways, then the ship is boarded by pirates, and then there's a storm the ship starts to sink... but who's at fault for it sinking? Accident? Captain not where he's supposed to be? Why have we met pirates if the pirates aren't to blame?

I do love the fact that the rhythm of the band's music is said to be guiding the insect passengers, as sound and dance is indeed how some insect species communicate and this could spur educational conversation between teacher and students. I also had to laugh at Captain Cockroach declaring he will survive as he chooses to stay with his sinking ship.

The inclusion of both French and Spanish vocabulary was a great choice. Not only are these both important languages for the genre family of music this book explores, but it also means this book is equally valuable in terms of educational value in both the American and Canadian markets.
