A Curse So Dark and Lonely was one of my favorite reads of 2020. I devoured book 2 in only 3 days, and couldn't wait to get my hands on Book#3 so I got a sample eARC from NetGalley for the first few chapters of this final installment.
One of the things I didn't love about Book#2 was how little Rhen and Harper were in it... especially since the storyline of A Heart So Fierce and Broken turns Rhen into a frightened tyrant and a brutal coward. "He's doing it for his people" is said so much that it feels like a worn out excuse. Without the chance to be in Rhen's head with his POV, the character becomes utterly unlikeable from the outside. It really undoes the romance of the first book in my opinion. I hope he'll be redeemed in the 3rd act.
This 3rd book seems as though it will have a lot more of Rhen and Harper and I'm excited for their POVs. I LOVED the first book. Hoping to love the third.
This was just a small insert of the book, so I feel like I can not give a good review. I will be reading the full novel, when it becomes available.
This was such a great excerpt. I loved how this book will narrated by all 4 main characters. This will really help give a complete picture and bring the first two books together. I can’t want for the full release!
This was only an excerpt- but I am a huge fan of this series so I will snap up any small glimpse I can get into this story. I have loved the other 2 books. I can't wait to get my hands on a full copy of this.
I would say it is best to read the others in the series. It would be very difficult to walk into this and pick up immediately in the middle of the story.
Love this author and love the characters! I need more!
The first two books of this series are so incredible, and A Vow So Bold And Deadly already sounds like it might surpass them both. I cannot WAIT to read it!
This was the perfect introduction to the next installation of this story! I love that it is written in the four main characters’ points of view, so we can get a glimpse into all of their thoughts during the sixty-day countdown to war. It is also a great way to merge both stories, that of Rhen and Harper from the first novel, to that of Grey and Lia Mara from the second.
The way it ends with yet another magesmith that comes to Lia Mara has made me eager to read the book in full. There are so many new obstacles and questions that now need to be answered, including the return of Lilith who continues to torment Rhen, the identity of the new young magesmith that approached Lia Mara, and how the war will carry out and impact all the characters involved.
I am so excited to finish reading this book and I cannot wait to find out what happens! I know this instalment will be as well written and as compelling as the previous books. The author has created a world that is so detailed and immersive, that I am completely invested in its characters and will continue to read all that follows in this series.
Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an excerpt of this book.
With a fast-paced and heartwrenching storyline and interesting dialogue, I am so excited for what is about to come. This sample offers a promising and enticing finale that avid Cursebreakers have been waiting for.
It's hard to write a good review as this is only a fragment, but so far it's an interesting read. The writing is good as always and the story seems to be going into an entertaining arc.
I have enjoyed this series so far. I love fairy tale retellings and beauty and the beast is a classic. I like this twists added to original fairytale in this series. This sample made me more eager to read the last book when it comes out.
After the cliffhanger ending of A Heart So Fierce and Broken, I didn't think I could possibly look forward to the release of this book any more. I was mistaken. This excerpt has whet my appetite for this book immeasurably. I love the fact that it is told from the POV of the four main characters that I have gotten to know best over the course of the series - Grey, Rhen, Harper, and Lia Mara. Each of them are experiencing difficulties, and facing no shortage of challenges.
While the series has had plenty of action and plot twists thus far, I have become quite intrigued to see where it will go from here. Emberfall and Syhl Shallow are on the brink of war, and dealing with troubles within their own borders as well. I honestly have no idea what to expect, and I'm dying to find out what happens next!
This starts off quickly and I can’t wait to see where Harper and my kids go. The romance in these books isn’t great, but I am super interested in how they’re going to close out this series!!
I am so excited to read the full book once it comes out! Kemmerer writes such lovely prose that transports the reader to Emberfall and Syhl Shallow, and to the struggles of Lia Mara, Grey, Rhen, and Harper.
I can’t wait for the release of A Vow So Bold and Deadly! Thank you Netgalley for bing me the opportunity to read the first few chapters.
i normally don't read excerpts because i hate getting a sample and not having the rest ready. same thing happened with this one - loved it, hated that it was only an excerpt! want, need, desperate for more!
A Vow So Bold and Deadly by Brigid Kemmerer is the third book in the Cursebreakers series. This ARC is a sampler of four chapters of the new book. There are chapters from each of the four main characters' perspectives: Harper, Rhen, Grey, and Lia Mora. While this excerpt was great, I can't wait to read the whole book. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.
I figured this book was going to be amazing because I LOVED the first two, but after getting that little sample, I am literally drooling for more. I love how the book draws the first two together by using all four POVs. I love being able to see POV from all four characters and feeling what they feel. Although this was only a sample, I know this book will be a 5 star for me, as I felt both the other two were. January 26th can’t get here soon enough!
Just a small sample!
I wasn’t too happy to find out I just got a sample of the book it is 4 very small chapters. I am one that never reads long excerpts or if a writer has a chapter available early on, I never read it. I want to read the whole book at once. Though since I grabbed this from Netgalley I figure I have to honor my commitments and do at least somewhat of a review.
The sample definitely whet my appetite for the book. It has all our favorite characters Rhen, Harper, Grey and Lia Mara. It also has Iisak the scraver, Harper’s brother Jake and Tycho. It basically takes off where A Heart so Fierce and Broken left things. Rhen and Grey are on opposite sides. I will read the book, but I am not sure when I will get to it. Though I can’t wait to find out how things turn out.
The sample was not enough to give a rating so I am not putting any stars on this in Goodreads, but I have to for Netgalley, so I am giving it a 4 based on hope.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
This was a great teaser! As depressing as it was that there were only four chapters in the excerpt, it did a great job of ensuring that I’ll be counting down the days until I can read the entire book.
I was a little sad to see this was only an excerpt but it only got me more pumped for the book to finally release! If it’s anything like A Heart So Fierce and Broken, I fully expect this one to blow me away!
This series is one of my favorite series of all time. Kemmerer's writing is superb and her characterization is flawless. Her plot twists are always ones I don't see coming. I cannot wait for the full version of this story to come out so we can find out what happens to our favorite characters. This started out as a Beauty and the Beast retelling and turned into so much more than I bargained for.
