A Vow So Bold and Deadly was a horrendous novel, filled with uninteresting characters. I do not recommend.
3.5 stars. I loved the first book in this trilogy and I liked the second one, even though some things happened that disappointed me. I was looking forward to reading this conclusion to the series, but after reading it, I have to say that it was a bit of a let down. It took me a long time to finish this book, and I never felt very compelled to read it. I wouldn't say it's because I didn't like it. I mostly liked the way things ended up for everyone, but I felt like some of the things that happened in book two could have been avoided if people would have just talked, and some of the filler in this book could have been left out. Not a lot happens in this book for a good long while, and it just dragged on and on for at least the first half. I think this series would have made a much better duology.
In regards to book two, I never really understood why Grey didn't just talk to Rhen in the first place. This book tries to explain away Rhen's horrible actions in book two, and even justify them, but I didn't completely buy it. I appreciated getting to see under more of the layers of his character though, and I was able to like him as a character again—to an extent, but at this point, it just feels like the things that happened in book two were there just to add drama and shock us. Weirdly, I didn't feel that way until after reading this book. It's just the way this trilogy is written as a whole has completely changed my opinion of the middle book.
Would I recommend this series? I can't say that it's a favorite any more, but I still think it's worth giving it a try if you like Beauty and the Beast re-tellings and enjoy YA fantasy.
This book was absolutely brilliant. I do hope we get a novella so we can see a bit more about the characters lives after everything that happened!
The perfect ending!
Got the book after reading this excerpt and it was everything I wanted in the series 🙂
Wow! I love this series SO MUCH! It was a great way to wrap up the storyline between everyone. My love for Grey and Harper cannot be understated! I would definitely read this over and over again!
This stunning sequel to the Cursebreaker Trilogy was everything I was hoping for and more!
While I enjoyed the first book, especially Kemmerer's beautiful writing style, I was somewhat in the middle ground in how I felt about the plotline, but the series progresses very well in the second book, and this one has got to be my favorite.
AVSBAD follows four POVS: Harper, Rhen, Gray, and Lia Mara, as they deal with the ending of book two. Both of the main romance plotlines are fun and absolutely swoonworthy. However, my favorite thig about this story is still the side characters. Harper's brother, Lia Mara's sister, and a lot of the other more minor characters are written so well. I find it difficult to find books with as well written and dynamic characters who aren't on page for as long as the MCs.
The writing is beautiful and feels like a fairytale. The only real issue I had was that sometimes the plot seemed to drag a bit, but thats pretty common, especially towards the end of a big fantasy series.
Hands down the worst book in this trilogy. The first book was great and then it just got progressively worse. Kemmerer turned her shining, disabled main character into a useless side character that does nothing but support her sadistic, abusive boyfriend. How can she expect us to love Rhen after turning him into a raging psychopath in book 2? He BEAT a CHILD. We’re supposed to forget about that?! Besides that disturbing narrative, there wasn’t much else to like: nothing exciting happened, most of the characters were flat or had confusing motives, and the writing — which typically improves over the course of a series — was lacklustre. Overall a major disappointment, the only redeeming character MAYBE being Lia Mara. But she was still not enough to save this sad ending.
This review is incredibly delayed, but I wanted to get it in here.
Brigid Kemmerer never disappoints in delivering the feels. Though many YA novels have a heavy focus on the romance, this one gave you what you needed, but didn't make it the main event. The emotions and inner turmoil experienced by each character is really what made me crave each chapter. The relationship between Rhen and Grey caused me more stress than the waiting war. And I use stress in a good way. I love knowing a book can have me so invested that I feel the anxieties of the characters.
The end felt a little rushed, but I was satisfied with the outcome even if it left me hurting.
This is just a chapter sampler but it got me hyped for the whole book! I’ve been putting off this last book in the trilogy but I hope to get to it soon.
This was an excerpt but I did love this series so freaking much. I highly recommend! I wish this was the actual book that I got to read.
The thrilling triology comes to a end. Sadly, I did not enjoy this book that much. The characters are only shadows of who'd they been at the first book and the love interest fell flat.
This review is my own opinion. Thank you NetGalley for the sneak peek. I am so excited to come back to this world. I love this series and its characters and I am glad to have them all together again. Super excited to buy this final book and see how it will conclude. Grey is still my favorite character followed by Rhen.
I honestly don’t know how to feel about this book. I love the world that Kemmerer built. And the characters are, for the most part, amazing. There is such great character development. The book as a whole was well written, logical, immersive, and intriguing, but it just lacked a real ending. There are so many loose ends left at the end, so many unanswered questions.
What can I say? I love Brigid Kemmerer so much. She has never disappointed me and I can’t say I’m disappointed with what I read.
I was nervous to read this book because of how great the first two were. While I wasn't disappointed with the ending to this series, I wasn't impressed either. Everything was wrapped up fairly well but I didn't feel distressed afterwards. I like when I can't decide what to read next.

Review: A Curse So Dark and Lonely truly dragged me into this world. I was captivated by the characters, romance, and magic. In A Heart So Fierce and Broken I fell in love with Lia Mara and Grey. In a Vow So Bold and Deadly you are immediately taken right back into the action. Miscommunication abounds, tensions run high, and our villainess is as evil as can be. I truly did enjoy returning to the world, but I just wanted soooooo much more. I felt as if the end came way too soon, and I was left feeling unfulfilled and with so many questions. With the direction the second book went in I understand it’s hard to wrap up a complex fantasy universe in a tidy bow, but a little more closure would have been nice. When I finished the novel I think I experienced all the emotions at once. Definitely caused a book hangover.😂
If you enjoyed the first two books I highly recommend completing the trilogy. Overall it is a fun read with complex characters and that fantasy setting we cannot help but love.🏰❤️
I have loved the previous two books in this series especially after the ending of A HEART SO FIERCE AND BROKEN. I wont' lie, I thought this was an ARC but it was exciting to read a sample and the beginning of the final book regardless. I already love being in the heads of Grey and I cannot wait to see how the story ends for Grey and Rhen. I feel like there is so much more to Rhen than we got to see in the last books so I"m really hoping for a great story that explains his motivation. Harper is a badass as is Lia Mara and I hope we get a lot from their points of view, too!
A lover of this series I had higher hopes of its end but unfortunately books don't end the way we want! I must say that it is a book that should be read as follows in the series so it can be fully enjoyed. Each character has come far through this series and I was excited with some of their endings. I do enjoy the series as a whole but who knows maybe we can see a spin off? Regardless I look forward to reading more books by This author!
I was in tears at the conclusion of this novel and hated to see it wrap up. This marks the conclusion of the Cursebreaker Series and, oh, how I'll miss my time in Emberfall and Syhl Shallow.
The kingdoms are clashing and those seated upon thrones do not find the crowns resting easily upon their heads. I don't dare say too much lest it spoil the plot for those just embarking on the first book in the series.
The series is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast but is vastly original and goes off in a completely different direction once the foundation has been established. This may be one of my favorite series of all time (we're talking six DECADES here so that is a major accomplishment).
I started the series during the virus lockdown seeking pure escapist literature. This is that but so much more. It's a world populated by magesmiths, evil enchantresses, scravers and weary cursed princes.
Brigid Kemmerer brought this series to a highly satisfying conclusion and even left a couple threads hanging loose that would make terrific spinoffs (Brigid, you know what I am referring to. Please, please make this happen!)
I very highly recommend this series! @BrigidKemmerer @bloomsbury #cursebreaker #avowsoboldanddeadly
I NEED MORE AFTER THIS EXCERPT!
Brigid Kemmerer can write anything and I will always buy it!
Will be back once I read the complete book!
