Absolutely loved this whole trilogy. I received an ARC of the first book and fell in LOVE. Zara is my favourite character EVER. her sass and wit is amazing. I love her okay?
The plot of this last book was SOO GOOD, guys. I absolutely loved it!! I couldn't stop reading and I binged it in a day lol.
The ending was SO UNPREDICTABLE though and I'm so so glad things turned out okay the end.
I was truly invested in all the characters who were well written and had amazing personalities. Also Lucien is a book boyfriend for sure.
I need the author to write more books about Zara because she stole my heart
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a free advanced copy of this book to read and review.
I absolutely love this series. And the conclusion took my breathe away. It picks up right where we left off with twist after twist and an amazingly fulfilling conclusion. I couldn't have asked for anything better
Did not enjoy this one like the other two for some reason. Still a great book though. This book just fell very flat for some reason.
A great conclusion to a dark but compelling series. This story was full of amazing characters and so much development. It had a wonderful and strong female lead and I felt satisfied with the ending.
Lush world and witty storyline. I loved the heoroke so much. Such a unique book. Loved it. Even better than the first book!!!
Although I read the first book in this series, I was not able to get into the second book. The story is well written and lushly filled out. I feel that it is just my personal preferences that made this title so hard to read.
I absolutely loved this entire trilogy, It was cunning, it was dark, it was gritty, it was engaging. I sped through this final installment and then regretted it when I realized it was over.
Another win from 2021 Netgalley. I happened to get the first two books in the series on a whim from the library, and I really enjoyed them. Once I was set in the world, I got attached to the characters so the opportunity to get my hands on the final book in the trilogy without having to wait was AMAZING.
Any opportunity for joy in these panoramic times, you know?
The series blends so many things together well and it doesn't take you long until you want to knock all the characters heads together repeatedly. Basically if the set up for the first book sounds at all appealing to you, give it a shot. It was definately an enjoyable ride.
Thoroughly enjoyed the whole series. The end had me in tears. Highly recommend the whole series of you want a strong female lead that has a mind of her own, is sassy, has some good sword skills, and and really good self discovery arch. Not to mention an amazing group of characters, Malachite being my favourite.
This was an amazing conclusion to this series. I loved it since book one and this one was so perfect! The story finished up in a way that I didn't see coming and the ending was so beautiful. I don't really now what to say about this one other than that it was just so amazing.
Sarah Wolf is one of my favorite authors! This novel was a thrilling conclusion to a wonderful series! Overall, this is a must read for those that love fantasy!
This is a fantastic ending to a wonderful series. It's bittersweet because I'm sad to see it end, but I also appreciate that the author told the story and didn't let it drag on for too many books.
I could not have asked for a better ending. All the tidbits we got about Mal and his past in this book--perfection. Soft Lucien is my entire happiness.
I was really hoping to love this finale, but the author’s writing just fell flat for me. I think I’ve just lost interest in this series. It makes me really sad because I LOVED BMTH when I first read it, but FMTB was just the biggest let down, and this one was lackluster for me too.
Send Me Their Souls by Sara Wolf is the third book in the young adult romantic fantasy Bring Me Their Hearts series. This series is definitely one that a reader should start from the beginning and read in order as the story picks up in each book right where the previous had ended so it wouldn’t be understood out of order.
In the first book of the series, Bring Me Their Hearts, readers met Zera who was a Heartless, or a twist on what we know of as a zombie. When Zera’s family was killed by Heartless a witch, Nightsinger, decided to spare Zera by making her into a Heartless herself instead of letting her die. By taking her heart Nightsinger had control of Zera and she became the monster she had feared. A Heartless is very zombie like in the urge to murder and their need for raw meat but still looking human and hanging onto a thread of her humanity Zera wanted nothing more than her heart back and to be human again.
When Nightsinger was approached to allow the use of Zera to infiltrate and get close to Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane Nightsinger made Zera an offer she couldn’t refuse. If Zera could attempt to pass as human and win the Prince’s heart to allow Nightsinger to take his heart she would trade it for Zera’s own and grant her freedom and her life back. Battling the monster inside of her Zera vows to bring Nightsinger the Prince but if she failed Nightsinger would crush her own heart.
Bring Me Their Hearts was one of those books I became cover obsessed and needed to read simply after a glance and thankfully when I did I really enjoyed it. The material was an original take on an old classic and I loved Zera’s snarky zombiefied self right from the beginning. However, as the books continued they seem to each fizzle a bit more for me. The second book had that middle book feel that nothing seems to resolve and leave one waiting for the end but now with the last book I felt it never regained that original spark for me. Still a decent series but the first book was my favorite.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
loved the first two books of this series, so when the finale finally released, I was so excited to see how it all came together.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t a huge fan of how the author took this book. I feel like the fantastical buildup with the magic and now the inclusion of dragon-like creatures made me want more of an epic fight at the end. Instead, we got more character development in this final installment than plot.
But that’s not to say the writing wasn’t gripping and enjoyable to read.
As a whole, this series has a lot of fantasy and romance elements. It isn’t anything steamy but does have that lighter YA feel to it with tons of ups and downs for the main characters. Some of the interactions felt a little stale, but not to where I wasn’t rooting for them.
I gave this one a 3 out of 5 stars, and I think the series as a whole is more of a 4 star. I’d recommend this one to those looking for that classic YA fantasy vibe with hints of romance and politics with a fun world full of magic, witches, and even dragons.
Unfortunately, I didn't quite enjoy this. It might have been simply the wrong timing, but I ended up skimming over passages and in the end even skipping them. Might give it another try sometime, though.
Zera starts off as a morally grey character who will do anything to get her heart back but over the course of the trilogy she has wonderful redemption arc. She ends up caring for Lucian, Malachite and Fione so much that she's willing to put her own desires aside to save them all. Unlike the sequel where their little friendship group was at odds with Zera we get to see them working together again and I couldnt be happier. I usually favor female friendships but in this case Zera and Malachite friendship won my heart. Seeing them both be all protective of Prince Lucien was really cute. I was definitely invested in the romance between Zera and Lucien. They were both so witty and headstrong that they made for a great match.
The plot starts off with a bloody fight that quickly turns into a race to stop the destruction of every kingdom by a witch consumed with the power from the tree of bones. This goal is even further complicated when Zera promises to save the powerful witch instead of the much easier option of just killing her. The pace kept me gripped from start to finish. The stakes were high with all the casualties from the witches rampage and the danger the character were in. It was a nice improvement from the sequel and reminded me why I initially fell in love with the first book. I would recommend the physical book over the audiobook because the narrator was very monotone.
I was excited we got to visit the hidden witch city up on a floating island in the sky. I loved the witches politics and how they could shapeshift into different animals. This world has a bunch of awesome fantastical species. On top of the witches and their heartless we see some fearsome goblin like creatures called Beneathers who keep the deadly serpent dragon Valkerax captured underground. There's alsobsome cat/lizard creatures called Celeons whose skills often have them working as guards and assassins but the one we meet is actually a scholar. Zeras bond with the Valkerax she taught to avoid the trees command by weeping was definitely one of my favorite parts. I really enjoyed all the reveals we got about the magical trees.
For some reason, it took me quite some time to get into this book. I think it had something to do with the fact that a lot of the plot involves the group traveling to their final destination, and I felt like I wanted something more. But Sara Wolf's writing is gorgeous, and I loved the final conflict and the ultimate ending of the book. Also, thematically, everything about this book was beautiful (I loved how it explored Zera's sense of self-respect and her ability to think and act for herself.
Send Me Their Souls gave the characters I'd come to love a deserving finale!
