Good entry to the series, runs long even for a YA epic but is engaging enough to overcome that. Fits well in a collection with other action YA titles.

So good!!

Description
From bestselling author Danielle L. Jensen comes a thrilling new novel in the Dark Shores world, a series that Sarah J. Maas called "everything I look for in a fantasy novel."

THEIR BATTLES ENDED IN VICTORY

Lydia returns to Mudaire to enter training at the healing temple. But instead of fighting to save lives, she’s convinced she is doing more harm than good. She delves into the history of the gods only to discover a truth that will change her life forever.

His birthright as commander of the Royal Army is finally in his grasp, but Killian feels anything but victorious. Burdened by his past, he embraces the darker side of his mark—and in doing so, risks starting a war.

BUT THE WAR HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN

Danielle Jensen has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Her writing is concise, includes fantastic world-building, and characters that feel very real. Her ability to build tension and have you on the edge of your seat is truly remarkable. I fly through all of her books because I just have to know what happens next. Gilded Serpent is no different. I enjoyed the wild ride of having all four main characters within the same story. I will be highly anticipating the last and final book in this series. If you have not picked up the Dark Shores series, you should!

Danielle, you’ve done it again!! An epic installment in the Dark Shores series and another that I could not put down!

Reviewing books further in a series is always difficult because of spoilers, but it’s easy to say that Gilded Serpent is the perfect continuation of Dark Shores and Dark Skies. I LOVED finally have all of our character’s stories in one book. Lydia, Killian, Marcus, and Teriana… it’s impossible to pick a favorite.

You won’t find any spoilers here, but I do have to say one thing… HOLY CLIFFHANGER! I will literally be reeling from this one until I can get Scorched Earth in my hands!

This was everything I wanted it to be and more, just minus the entire section of M and T traveling because it could have been 1/5 of the length it is haha but this made me super excited for the final book. I low key thought there were three books and that’s why I read the series but nope I’m silly and now have to wait for a resolution to those cliff hangers 😹

I LOVED THIS BOOK. And I think that everyone should read it! If you like fast-paced action with high as heck stakes – this book is for you. If you like romance (but no insta-love in sight) to be thrown into the mix with a side of death – this book is for you. If you like magic and lore and fantasy – this book is for you. And if you like the idea of reading about legionnaires walking around in leather skirts and sandals – then this book is definitely for you.

Honestly, I can't find any faults with this book (except for maybe the fact that some characters' paths didn't intersect - I'm still grumpy about that...) and I cannot wait for the next book! Especially after that ending. JENSEN, I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DID THAT TO ME!

I would give this book more stars if I could. All the stars for you Glen Coco!

THIS BOOK! Actually this whole story, kills me! I love reading about all of these characters. I’m seriously so invested in all of their lives, relationships, everything. I feel their pain and I ache with them when they ache. But I also smile and scream from happiness when they do too! I am in desperate need of the next book and need it as of yesterday

I cannot recommend this book series enough. If you loved The Bridge Kingdom and you haven’t picked this series up yet, you’re seriously sleeping on one of the best fantasy series’!! I’m dying for the next book already and I’m very upset about it. Danielle, if you’re reading this... please write faster. I can’t breathe just thinking about that ending. 😂 ⁣
Oh and also, I’m still #TeamKillian despite how absolutely infuriating he is at times. I think that’s why I love him so much actually. 🤔

When I started reading this one I thought it was the end, but it seems like we are getting a book four!! You don't have to ask me twice if I want one. YES!! Each of these titles gets better and better as the story unfolds. I loved the multiple POV and all the characters and the setting. I think readers who have enjoyed the other titles in this series will die hard love tis one!!

I absolutely loved Dark Shores and Dark Skies so it really pains me that I had to DNF this book. I just couldn’t get back into the story no matter how hard I tried. I’m going to reread both books and then give this book another chance but for now this book is going on the DNF shelf.

I didn't realize that this was not the first book in the series (research before you request a galley, folks!) so I had to go back and catch up on Dark Shores, Dark Skies, and Tarnished Empire. While technically not part of the series, Tarnished Empire really helped me understand this entire world better, so I recommend that you read it too.

In Gilded Serpent, the paths of the main characters of Dark Shores and Dark Skies finally cross, and everything else - the tension, the action - is heightened as a result. It's so much more action-packed and charged, but I also have to say that there's also a lot of information shared, to the point that some chapters became too info-dumpy. Not too much though, thank goodness! This is one long book, and amazingly, I didn't really feel that I was reading 700 whopping pages, which is a testament to Jensen's sharp writing. The setting and world-building remains top notch, and I appreciate the meticulous research that Jensen obviously did while writing this series.

We get a lot of development in this book, between the two romances, and the different personal relationships. Even though we're nearing the end, so many questions remain about the fate of our four main characters, and I'm very curious to see how Jensen will wrap everything up in next year's final book. After bingeing four books in this world in maybe three months I'm still in shock that I now have to wait for more than a year to find out how it all ends! I NEED TO KNOW HOW IT ALL ENDS SOON!
