This is a great little book about counting and learning outdoors. This is one of those books that encourage a love for learning and learning new concepts without it feeling like “work”

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Remind me of the book, We are going on a Bear Hunt. Great counting, story, and a love for nature.

This was a cute counting book about taking a hike in nature while looking for a moose. I liked the rhythm of the words and it would make a delightful book for storytime!

I was immediately charmed by the little map at the beginning of the book! My kid is always exciting to holler out numbers, so we had a fun time reading this together. We went for a nature walk nearby right after, and while we don't have moose around here, it was still fun for him to point out things that he was in the book! A great educational read. Thanks!

This is a great counting and rhyming book. It counts down rather than up which is really nice. the illustrations are great and my daughter who loves animals really engaged with this one.

The publisher made a copy of this book available via Netgalley. This is my honest review.

This fun rhyming-counting book has colourful, kid-friendly illustrations taking the reader on an adventure to hunt for a moose. It's Oscar's first trip with his family and he's excited about going. They pack a picnic basket lunch and grab a camera just in case they find a moose. Oscar is told to watch, listen, tiptoe and creep. Be quiet to see what you might find along the trail. He discovers pine cones, turtles, busy beavers, and wiggly worms, and more. Hidden/embedded in the pictures are the numbers from 10 to 1. When I read this one to my grandkids they were excited to see all the different animals. My grandson told me things about them, while my granddaughter was happy to count them and make sure she found them all. This was a fun book for us. After we finished reading it, we looked for pictures of the animals on the computer and even drew some. This was an afternoon of fun. The illustrations by Ashley Halsey were well done and looked like the various animals she depicted. They added much to our discussion and enjoyment of the story. The text flowed well and had a great cadence for reading aloud. A great story for classrooms, schools, public and family libraries.

Good nature filled counting down story with charming rhymes. The realistic watercolors really worked for the animals and plants that were the focus of the counting rhyme, but the humans seemed a bit off to me.

Very cute book. I liked the use of rhymes and the numbers illustrated by number of animals as well as by a hidden digital version of each of the associated arabic number. The illustrations are simplistic, and therefore, I think will be appealing to young children. I like the map intro, as well as the summary at the end. Counting down 10 to 1 in text, then going 1 to 10 in summary reinforces the relative order of the numbers.

One aspect I didn't care for was having Oscar yell "Mooooosey". I would prefer to have him point and quietly say to one of his parents "Moose". I like to encourage children to use proper terms.

I also agree with other reviewers on the issue of safety near wild animals.

I haven't actually read too many counting books that work backwards the way this one does, or my covid-brain can't remember them. Finding a moose will appeal to the some of the young readers in my rural school. The art is also attractive. I will consider adding this title.

This is a sweet little counting book based in nature. Kids will enjoy naming and counting all of the creatures seen during Oscar's walk in the forest. The book achieves it's goal, but isn't particularly remarkable.

I was granted complimentary access to Find a Moose with Me! by Suzanne Buzby Hersey through the publisher, McSea Books, in exchange for an honest review via NetGalley.

Find a Moose with Me! is a cute picture book for kids who are learning to count and identify animals (specifically animals that can be found in the woods in North America.) It's a cute story about going on a picnic and nature walk with the goal of finding a moose. The artwork is stunning!

Minor warning to people who may be sensitive to such language, the characters do call this activity a moose "hunt," but no weapons are involved. They are only looking to see and photograph the moose.

Two more nitpicks from someone who lives in an area full of moose:
- For the benefit of people who want to use this book as an instruction manual for finding moose, keep in mind that they are most active in the early morning and just before dusk, not at midday as this picnic storyline implies.
- Safety warning: do not have your small child pose a few feet in front of a bull moose! Generally moose will run away, but if scared a moose can and will charge. A bull moose weighs about as much as a Clydesdale horse (if not more) and has antlers.

Overall this is a very cute book and I would love to purchase a physical copy for my own daughter! (And I would love to send it on a sleepover with her grandparents, just to drive moose hunter Pop nuts over the fact that they're leaving the house in broad daylight and not at 3am...)

A lovely book for wee ones that combines classic-style, realistic illustrations with a nice rhyming tale of a little boy looking for a moose and encountering many other fun, natural things along the way during a picnic and walk with his family. Nice illustrations, good verse, and nicely incorporates the counting and numbers without feeling too forced. Re-readable.

I love a good moose hunt, I have been on them... but in cars while driving through the mountains in Vermont and New Hampshire, and I have actually seen two! That being said, moose can be really dangerous, so it kind of floors me that this family is walking around in the woods purposefully looking for a moose. From what I understand, you should not be getting that close!

Aside from the fact that this family might have a death wish, the book is a counting book. It is nature themed, and includes cute illustrations of the forest and the wildlife there. The book is also written in verse so it is easy to read and flows pretty well. There is nothing spectacular about it, it is counting, animals, and the wild which pop up in a lot of counting books, but it was nice to see one about Moose. (Although the danger aspect really had me wondering if it was a good choice to moose hunt).

Find A Moose With Me was such a sweet, charming children's book with beautifully illustrated pictures! This will make the perfect book for someone to read to a little one at bedtime or just as a fun delightful reading time with children. It includes fun counting activities with cute little park animals for a child to engage in as little Oscar and his parents go looking to see the park's moose, which makes it an educational adventure as well. Overall, I thought this was a happy, uplifting book that a small child would enjoy!

I would like to thank #NetGalley and McSea Publishers (IBPA) for my ARC of #FindAMooseWithMe in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Find a Moose with Me! (A Countdown Adventure) by Suzanne Buzby Hersey is just the type of nature book that children need! The illustrations are calming and beautiful, and the inclusion of lots of plants and animals are so important. I love the hidden numbers, and the use of a countdown system to keep kids anticipating what comes next. A great find, and one to definitely add to your home library!

Find a Moose With Me! is an engaging picture book, combining a counting exercise with simple rhyming prose and charming illustrations. The storyline follows a young child, walking a Northern-American forest path with his parents, seeing (and counting) along the way some of the flora, fauna and other features one might come across in this landscape.
This title may be distinguished from the many to be found in the pre-school counting genre by the inclusion of a map at the start of the book, which may prove stimulating for keen junior cartographers and those with spatial proclivities. A surprising false ending adds a nice touch of realism.
Ashley Halsey's watercolour illustrations are whimsical and fitting to the subject matter, and contain lots of added extra details (lots of fun when reading aloud!).
I would recommend this book as a quality read-along for young (pre-primary aged) children, particularly those with an interest in animals and natural environments.
My thanks to the author, Suzanne Buzby Hersey, illustrator Ashley Halsey, publisher McSea Books, the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this title in advance of its publication on 24 November 2020.

A fun adventure read for those working on counting, search and find, and exploring nature and the animals who live there.

As a note: this is a preliminary, simple review with key points only and I will be returning here in the next 2-3 days (still prior to publication) with a finalized review + link to social media postings.

Find a Moose with Me was a short and easy read for ages 2-4, in my opinion. My child is about 4 1/2 and was a little too old for this particular story.

What stood out positively: the watercolor illustrations are calm and gentle, they are appealing and engaging. The rhyming scheme worked decently well for reading aloud and the story was simple and cute. I could really see it appealing to early toddlers and preschoolers who are learning how to count.

Overall it was a light and fun counting adventure and while it was a bit too young for us after all, I would buy this type of book for the younger kids in my life.

I loved this and can see me reading to a child or children. This book I could interact while reading it. Besides counting along in the story, in the illustrations the numeral is shown and can be pointed out to the child. A must read if you love learning and interacting with your child.
