It’s Oscar’s first moose hunt! He and his parents are going on a hike in search of a moose they can photograph. As they walk, they count things they see, starting with ten pinecones, nine turtles, and eight beavers, and eventually counting down to two loons and finally, one moose. The rhyming text generally does a good job of sticking to the meter. The artwork is appealing but somewhat inconsistent in style. For some reason, Oscar’s facial features are overly simplified and slightly out of proportion while the animals are drawn in beautifully precise detail. Perhaps this was deliberate for the sake of making a point about environmentalism and de-emphasizing the humans, but if so, I don’t feel like that was especially well done. While this book doesn’t stand out as being exceptionally good, it is an enjoyable read and probably worth recommending to someone who’s specifically looking for picture books about nature for a child around three years old.
I read an advanced copy of, Find a Moose with Me!, by Suzanne Buzby Hersy. I loved the rhyming in this book. Oscar is on a hunt moose, will he find any? The pictures were great in this book. This is a great book for children.
Oscar goes on his first moose hunt and finds all sorts of amazing things- but will he find a moose? This is a fun couting book for young children. I enjoyed finding the hidden numbers in the pictures.
A sweet little book about Oscar and his outdoor adventure with his parent's on his first moose hunt! He observes and counts items in nature on his quest to see a moose. There are clever hidden items in the illustrations that will make this even more delightful for children.
Totally delightful and perfect for toddlers and young readers! Count down as little Oscar hunts for the season's first moose (photos only, no hunting). Encouraging text and lovely illustrations will entice young ones.
Well, this attractive book certainly does what it sets out to do. It's a 'countdown adventure', so we follow a young child and his parents on their day out in nature for the kid's first moose hunt. Once there, every double page spread has a four-line verse, and a lovely illustration, and each time there is something specific which reduces in number until the one, grand, old – car to go home in at the end of the day. No, no moose – unless… Throughout, the design has featured the relevant numbers somehow, in the landscape, animal forms or on the side of a picnic basket, and we're really going to get across the reversal of our numbers with this help. Even though moose might be very specific to North America, I can see this working anywhere. What I can't see is a flaw, so I would hope for this to become a big success.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
This is a nice counting book. The watercolor type illustrations are very aesthetically pleasing. The rhyming is nice for young children. Perfect for kindergarten and first grade ages. Delightful and comforting story.
Review to come November 2020 on blog/goodreads.

I was actually not planning on downloading anything, but fellow bookworms, you know how it goes. You spot a book. You cannot resist. And that is where I am. :) I just couldn't resist this adorable looking and sounding book.
The book starts off great for me, there is a map of the path we will be following along with the kid as he searches for his first moose.
Meet Oscar, it is his very first moose hunt and I just LOVED how his parents prepared him for the trip, hyped it all up, and made sure they had plenty of snacks (very important if you are doing an animal hunt (and no, not the kind you murder animals, but the one where you spot the animals in their surroundings)).
As he makes way to the moose we see him count all the animals and items he comes across. We see 8 beavers, 6 chipmunks and other animals. I loved how enthusiastic Oscar was about each encounter and I am sure that kids will love to count along with him. Of course, I had a big suspicion from the start what the 1 would entail. The numbers are also found in the background, I am not sure how I felt about that, it felt a bit unnecessary.
I loved the ending and I love that twist, OMG, I thought for sure that the author would end it like that, but then something else entirely happens which had me grinning and feeling just as happy as Oscar is feeling, I am sure.
I also liked that the book was rhyming, it gave it a bit more bounce and energy.
All in all, I would love to go moose hunting as well, though I would have to travel to Flevoland to meet one it seems (just checked it online as I wasn't sure we had this animal in the wild here).
I would recommend this fun counting book with an adorable MC to everyone.
