'Unfaithful', the importance and relevance of the title we get to know only in the end. Also the story just made me question my own judgement.
Anna is a math professor, seemingly unambitious. Has a loving family. Her husband Luis is an artist. Life seems all good in the first few pages and then you start seeing the cracks in this whole beautiful setting.
The story is twisted, engaging thriller with a fast paced story. The characters are well described such that the author makes you believe then to be one kind till she manages to change your opinion along the story.
The ending and twist there was absolutely unexpected. I had to go back to the story to see how the author had crafted such a beautiful psych thriller
If you love domestic psychological thriller then this story is definitely for you.
I thank the author, Bookouture and Netgalley for approving my request to read the eARC. The opinions expressed are my own.
yes yes yes loved it! Natalie Barelli not going to lie whatever goes on in that imagination of yours scares me a little. Seriously Natalie has written some of the most unreliable unhinged characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Meet Anna. mathematician, loyal colleague, devoted wife, adoring mother, faithful friend... maybe? No need to mention any of the plot here you get more information than you need from the blurb and truly that is not the highlight of this book. This Book takes you on a fast paced addictive wild and crazy ride in Anna‘s brain through her inner dialogue. I kept thinking... Is she delusional? A master manipulator? does she have the worst luck ever or is this all by design? As The story progresses things spiral more and more out of control. Miss Anna does and says things that wil leave your jaw dropped open. #nofilter there were so many times I was thinking, oh no she didn’t, but yes yes, she did. The ending to this book was so twisted and brilliant all I can say is bravo Natalie Barelli! The audiobook was narrated by Emily Rankin Who did a stellar job. She gave the perfect voice and tone to off the chains narrator Anna. cannot wait to see what comes next from the imagination of this remarkable author.

*** Big thank you to Bookouture & Dreamscape Nedia for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***
Anna's perfect life is slipping through her fingers. Alex, her top student, was secretly working alongside Anna on a project that would bring them fame and fortune, is dead. Her husband seems to be having an affair with her much younger counterpart, who they've also given the tenure too.
The story is told from Anna's perspective, she's a bit of a perfectionist and I did not like her. Anna worries that her husband, Luis is having an affair and it's consuming her every thought. It's a story of fear and self doubt. There's some good twists and suspicions abound. The ending had a satisfactory conclusion.
I would like to thank #NetGalley, #Bookouture and the author #NatalieBarelli for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Our main character Anna arrives to her husband's art studio one day, distraught following the death of one her students. Anna finds a pair of wine glasses drying by the sink and it confirms her fears that her husband is having an affair. Instead of telling her husband her fears, Anna goes home, cooks the dinner and walks her dog, in other words life as normal.
That is until things take a turn for the worst, the police want to talk her, she's receiving threatening messages, things are not going well for Anna.
To be honest, no review I give this book will do it justice. It is such an intricately put together plot with so many plot twists and surprises along the way.
Firstly I loved how the characters were written. I won't say I liked them all because we had some questionable people but how they were described and how each character was developed was so interesting.
I also thought the pacing of the story was perfect. The book gets into the action straight away, but it never slows down, always there are mini twists, reveals and still I never guessed the ending.
Barelli does an amazing job of describing and conveying emotions, throughout this book I felt dread for Anna, hope for her family, fear and triumph.
This was definitely 5 stars for me, and made Natalie Barelli a must buy author just from this one book.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Natalie Barelli for an eArc of this book in exchange for an honest review!
3.5 stars
There’s a thin line between desperate and crazy!
Anna, a happily married mother of two, is about to have her semi-perfect life crumble. She loses a promotion, finds out her husband is having an affair, and her advisee kills himself. Sick of being a pushover, she fights back, but instead of winning, she creates even more chaos as her life is turned upside down.
Told through the eyes of Anna, the reader gets to experience first hand what desperation will lead one to do. I kept wondering if Anna was legit crazy or if there was something else going on?
This was fun to read, but if I really thought about the plot and timeline, I would have had some issues, so I decided it was best to turn off my brain for the most part. However, I couldn’t completely shut it down, so I have to share some complaints. My biggest gripes: Anna spends way too much of the book telling the reader what is happening. Towards the end, the reader finally gets to see the crazy, and I wish more of the book was like this. My second major gripe: This book is supposed to take palace in America, but it never feels like America, the characters don't sound American, and the author/editors got some things wrong about the higher ed system. But the craziness wins over my complaints!
I was plugging away and entertained, but not really loving it, but then, at the 80% mark, this book hits a new level of crazy. I loved it and bumped up my entire review because of this portion of the book--it was that good. Twists and surprises and complete chaos take over, all of which had me flipping the pages as fast as I could.
I love a good crazy read, and this book brought the crazies and a little more! Overall, an entertaining and fun thriller with some wackadoodle characters and an even whackier ending, but somehow it all works.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
The complexity of a faithless marriage
What would you do if you suspected your husband of being unfaithful. Cut up his clothes, change the locks or simply go home and make a wonderful dinner for your perfect family?
A book with many themes that will keep you hooked.
Unfaithful by Natalie Barelli is a book like no other. Anna a professor of maths whose career is stalled, until she starts working with a promising young student, and between them they uncover the solution to maths problem that could change both of their lives. But at the last-minute things change and then the student is dead.
Looking for solace she visits her husband’s studio and uncovers another betrayal. She doesn’t want to loose everything she has worked for professionally or personally and so begins her quest to be the best that she can be – despite the fact that her husband has a lover, and her student is no longer there to take credit for his work. And she is falling apart – in so many ways.
This book is magnificent in its complexity. It kept me guessing and despite the fact that I knew I shouldn’t condone her behaviour, I was rooting for her. Anna is a wonderfully complex and real character that does everything wrong, but despite this has right on her side, or does she.
This is a book where plot shines supremely, but then so do the characters, all of which are relatable, and of course there are those that you can love to hate.
I am so pleased that I was given the opportunity to read Unfaithful as it was a truly tremendous psychological thriller and it did not disappoint!
The pacing moved along at a fair rate of knots and I loved the exciting plotline. Anna Sanchez, a maths professor has worked hard to cultivate and maintain her perfect family, and everyone thinks so. After a terrible day - her most gifted student, Alex, has died - she needs the support of her husband, Luis but when she arrives at his art studio she finds a pair of empty wine glasses, leading her to think he’s having an affair...
Full of thrills and totally addictive, it held my attention from the very first chapter. Anna was the ultimate unreliable narrator; although she wasn't a likeable central character, Natalie Barelli's clever writing meant I felt a degree of sympathy for her. This brilliant story was an intense psychological thriller that was masterfully executed by the author, with a mega reveal that caught me completely unawares.
I shall be looking out for more by Natalie Barelli who clearly has great talent. I recommend Unfaithful as a hugely worthwhile and an excellent read.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
Wow, what a fabulous twisted tale this is!!! I loved being in the head of the main character, Anna, and listening to her thoughts as her life started to unravel. She scrabbled to get things back on track, while making some truly awful decisions... but under pressure, who acts in a perfect way? The author had me completely fooled about what was really going on in the background, finishing with a flourish of shocking reveals. This is a book that will keep you glued to the pages, devouring all the twists and turns. Just brilliant!!!
First, I want to thank Natalie Barelli, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
Natalie Barelli brings you a very shocking and very twisted story in Unfaithful. This is one story that starts out one way and totally flips the script at the end of the book. The ending will leave you speechless.
Being a ginger I adored seeing a ginger on the cover. It is rare that you see them represented on the cover. So kudos to the graphic artists that created this beautiful cover.
Mathematics was never a strong subject of mine growing up in school. However, I liked the storyline involved with the mathematics aspect with Alex and Anna. I liked how he was a PHD Student and sought out Anna to be his supervisor for his thesis. It was a very interesting storyline. Not to mention the shocking turn of events of it all.
As with the title you got it there was someone that was unfaithful in it.
There was so much drama, insecurity, jealousy, loss, obsession, long kept secrets, in this book.
I was not a fan of George as he just creeped me out and rubbed me the wrong way.
Natalie totally blind sighted me with this climatic mind blowing ending! I was leaning towards it ending one way but totally thrown in a different direction all together! Huge hidden secrets that had been buried for years finally were revealed. Characters true colors were finally shown for who they really and truly were. Someone you never would have recognized. Well done Natalie!
3.5-4 stars! This book stressed me out, and for most of it I wanted to slap Anna or shake her, but that last 20% woah!
A twisty, thriller full of unlikeable characters, Unfaithful didn't really grip me until about half way, and the main character, Anna gave me a headache with her constant bad decisions! But then boy did it kick off in dramatic style! I didn't see any of it coming and gasped out loud a couple of times! By the end, my heart was racing, and I definitely sympathised with Anna a lot more, but gosh she drank too much, and she was a mess!
The ending was crazy and over the top but satisfying after the slow build up!
🍷🍷🍷🍷
So many thrillers nowadays are labeled as "unputdownable!", but Unfaithful is as twisty as a switchback road in the Italian countryside, with an ending I dare you to see coming!
There is so much going on in this book and unfaithfulness, while a trigger, is the least of it. There are so many unlikeable characters who make immoral decisions, but I was just holding my breath hoping that something redeeming would take place. And in ways you will least suspect, you will find out all of the characters' motivations, secrets and lies.
Someone is out to hurt Anna, a math teacher at University who despite going the extra mile is passed over for a full professorship. Anna makes some unfortunate choices, and does one or two, okay, maybe more, “very bad things". But in a way you feel sorry for her getting herself into a situation she can't get out of. If you’ve ever done something you wished you could go back and undo, you will empathize with Anna, no matter how questionable her choices might seem.
Then there are so many people in her life who I was sure were doing her wrong: her boss, Geoff, who apparently has never heard of the "Me Too" movement. Her colleague, Mila, who despite being given the respect that Anna craves, seems out to get her. Alex, her doctoral student who throws her a curve at the 11th hour. Her assistant, June, who all of a sudden has taken an interest in becoming Anna's best friend, and wants to know her life story, where she's going at all times, and what she plans to do next. She meets Ryan, who charms her at a party she attends, then ghosts her. Her husband Luis might be cheating on her, but maybe he’s not? And finally, there is Isabelle, the beautiful art curator who is almost certainly the object of Luis's affections.
There is a lot going on here, and yes, there were some unbelievable moments, but this is fiction! The author deftly weaves a story of deceit, lies and betrayals that will have you on the edge of your seat trying to guess what happens next. Did I mention, YOU WON"T SEE IT COMING!
If you're a thriller fan, do yourself a favor and move this to the top of your "to be read" list!
Thanks so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advance reader's copy for review.
Wow! What a great book!
This is the first book I have read by this author but it definitely won't be the last if this book is anything to go by. It is a compelling and suspenseful tale of secrets and lies, infidelity and an unreliable narrator.
If you are looking for a psychological thriller with so many red herrings and twists you won't know what to believe then look no further.
Highly recommended!
I loved this book! I have to start out by admitting that I'm a longtime fan of Barelli's. I've liked all of her novels, so I was expecting nothing less than the best when I opened my copy. And I was not disappointed! A feisty heroine with a tangled life and some unreliable memories? Sign me up! If you like well-paced, well-plotted thrillers you will not be disappointed. 4 stars!
Holy cow, I enjoyed this book!
Anna is a mess, a neurotic but enjoyable character who was so well written I felt like I knew her.
The less said here the better but I completely enjoyed this book!
Thank you to Bookouture for gifting me an ARC. It was my pleasure to write an honest review.
Dr. Anna Sanchez, an associate professor, is married to Luis, an artist, and they are parents to a son, Mateo, and a daughter, Carla, 13.
Anna has always been a bright person and one of her students is Alex. He is trying to solve a very complex mathematical problem that has intrigued people for years. Alex and Anna have been working on this together. When he calls her to say that he has solved it, she is so happy for both of them..that is until he says he is taking all of the credit. She has also just been passed over for a professorship promotion for someone she had mentored. Add to that the crap duties that are always thrown at her and Anna is furious. But when Alex throws himself out of a window, it’s now easy for Anna to take all of the credit for solving the problem.
Now, Anna suspects that Luis is having an affair and is driving herself nuts trying to find out who it is. Add to that her creepy boss with the hots for her, and she is totally stressed out.
Anna’s childhood was sad as her mother was cold, critical, and very strict. Thus, she has always wanted a happy marriage and a loving family. But she is a mess and she reacts to stress by drinking - a lot. Her binges only get her into more trouble.
This is an interesting book with some greatly flawed characters. I think if Anna had stayed away from the booze, she could have handled matters better, but then the book would have been dull. Well done. Enjoy, Readers!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for an honest review. This was a roller coaster ride from the beginning. What would you do if you worst nightmare comes true? Your husband is having an affair and your life is falling apart. Do you soldier on, or do you try to right the wrong? Anna is living a double life and time isn’t on her side. Is she a villain or an unwilling victim? The shocking conclusion had me feverishly reading until the end! A total thrill ride! This is an antidote for any reading slump.
Narrated by Anna we learn that she is a woman that strives for nothing short of perfection. Whether that is a home cooked, packed with vegetables meal for her perfect family or saying yes to everything in her professional life as only she will get it right.
However suddenly the perfect is slipping away, Alex her top student, who she was secretly working with on a paper that will bring them fame and a substantial amount of money, is now dead, the tenure she was counting on has been given instead to her much younger counterpart, it seems her husband is having an affair and now the police have shown up and she’s getting threatening text messages.
I was unsure what I was reading at first as this seemed to be more about an unsolvable maths problem than the affair it’s title and blurb alluded to. It’s pace starting off at a gentle jog I carried on reading until before I knew it the pace was sprinting faster than Usain Bolt.
This is definitely a book to stick with and Anna is a character that worms it’s way inside your head. She is the epitome of an unreliable narrator, lying, drinking too much, suffering from paranoia and fits of anger, she also has a mouth that engages before her brain. You will question her actions repeatedly but does she have just cause to be paranoid? Like her I found it impossible to trust anyone.
If you don’t mind a slow character driven start it pays you back with clever plot twists, red herrings and an ending you won’t expect.
Unfaithful is narrated from the perspective of maths professor Anna and follows the events that take place after her student Alex suddenly dies. What comes next is a crazy, thrilling and action packed story that totally blew my mind in several ways.
This was one of those books where I always thought that I knew what was going to happen but the author always had something planned that was thrown into the mix and always managed to blow my theories out of the water. I thought the characters were interesting but at times I found Anna to be a bit annoying and immature. I enjoyed all of the secrets that were scattered throughout the story because I found made it more intriguing
Unfaithful is a great book that is filled with mystery, twists, turns and a bucket load of secrets. I will definitely be reading more from Natalie Barelli.
I recieved an advanced copy for free, and this is my honest opinion.
Unfaithful by Natalie Batelli is a thriller that had me hooked from the beginning. Anna is a married math professor with two kids and a life she believes is great. Anna struggles with a few work issues but realizes her biggest issue could be her husband cheating on her. What will Anna do to save her marriage? A must read for sure!
I really enjoyed this one and found it gripping throughout full of twists and turns.
I would recommend this to all thriller lovers
