I love this series and this one was just as good as Dark Memento. I loved Lincoln in the first book and was desperate for his story. Autumn was a good match, and she’s had an horrendous time and deserves the very best! Their story was well written and the danger aspect was intense! I also loved Annabelle and Macs story...and I hope we get more. I’m also looking forward to Easton’s story

Wow. What a great read. I read it non stop. I was so involved in these characters, this town and this story.
Autumn is in the witness protection program, never allowing herself to get too close to anyone. Her Sheriff/ Neighbor/ town hottie would love to change that!
This is my first book by this author, and I don’t know why, but that changes now... this author will forever be on my TBR list !
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book Autumn Perez witnessed a murder which she caught on camera. The man was convicted and sent to jail. Autumn was put in to the witness protection program Ten years later she is living on her own and develops a crush on her neighbor. This book had great chemistry between Autumn and Lincoln. I cant wait to read Katie Reus's next book.

Can I just say that Katie is my top favorite author for romantic suspense. The way she draws you in with the suspense leaves me wanting more. Lincoln was an amazing hero, I loved his determination to fight for Autumn and the life they deserved together.Autumn, was a typical Katie heroine; strong and willing to do what is necessary for the people she loves. Another great read by Katie. Looking forward to more.

Deadly Past (Verona Bay #2)
by Katie Reus
Thank you so much Katie...you always know how to draw me into the story and keep me on the edge of my chair. Autumn Perez witnessed a brutal murder and helped to put the killer in prison. Ten years later she is in the witness protection program living in Verona Bay.Lincoln Jordan the town sheriff has been wanting to get to know his neighbor Autumn. She has been avoiding him until one night and now she’s pregnant after an intense one-night stand. Something happens that draws them together again and it gets more intense from here...the is angst, terror, worry, laughter and lots of steam to get us to their HEA. There seemed to be the start of another romance in this story and I hope there will be a book for this couple. Reasons I enjoyed this book: Page-turner Happily Ever After Easy-to-read Tear-jerker Steamy Entertaining Action-packed Great world building Romantic Wonderful characters Scary Witty

Autumn Perez had her who life turned upside down when she witnessed a crime. She started over in Verona Bay.

“Ah, this one is Lily of the Valley flowers. I got it for a couple reasons—they were my mom’s favorite and even though they’re delicate, they’re tough.
They survive harsh winters and always bloom in the spring. Plus, they’re poisonous, so animals give them a wide berth.”

Lincoln Jordan is the town sheriff and Autumn’s neighbor. There one night stand leads to so much more.

“What would it take for you to give us a real chance?”

Ms. Reus has just jumped back up on my radar recently with her suspenseful romance. You don’t have to read the first book in this series at all.

The bad guy is crazy as heck.

Most of the suspense is in the last third of the book. A great small town neighbors to lovers story.

ARC received for review

It's me. The one who hasn't read the first book. I saw it, but no matter how much I love Ms. Reus, I didn't care for the sound of it so I skipped it. This second book is a stand alone and didn't need to read the first one to enjoy this one.

Lincoln has been wanting to ask Autumn out for awhile, but could tell she wouldn't say yes. Autumn has a bad scare that results in a one night stand between them and a baby. A little bit of angst and some drama and an evil person and true love wins in the end.

Autumn is enjoying her life the best she can after witnessing a murder and moving to Verona Bay. She teaches art, spends time with her friends and secretly fantasizes about her sexy next door neighbor Lincoln the town sheriff. Lincoln has been waiting for the right time to ask his gorgeous next door neighbor Autumn out, his schedule as the town sheriff is hectic and sometimes crazy but when the moment strikes he takes full advantage of it.

These two ignite and a few weeks later Autumn finds out she is pregnant and her life maybe in jeopardy again. She needs to trust Lincoln with her secrets to help save her and their baby. I really enjoyed this story, though it’s the 2nd book in a series its completely stand alone and you do not need to read the first one to understand the characters though I recommend the first one also because it was just as good!

3,5 stars, upped to 4

Chief of Police? OK count me in! Well written but a bit formulaic story about a young woman who witnesses (and photographs) the dumping of a body. After the trial she is whisked away into witness security and after a few moves she decides she never wants to leave Verona Bay. It is ten years after the trial and Autumn feels at home in this town. Plus she is pregnant after a hot one night stand with her neighbor, police chief Lincoln. Of course, her past makes an appearance during this time and Autumn and Lincoln have to fight for their future.

The story felt like one I have read so many times before so it has to be the relationship that draws me in and somehow I kept waiting for the chemistry and fireworks. Still a very good read by this author!

Autumn’s mother was brutally murdered and then in her early twenties she witnessed a man disposing a body ten years ago. She went into witness protection and had to leave her old life behind. She now lives in a little town in Florida and is an art teacher. She is involved in a little incident and is afraid they’ll try to move her again, She has a one night stand with her sexy neighbor, Sheriff Lincoln and ends up pregnant. Strange things are happening and Autumn thinks her past has found her. Lincoln wants them to give their relationship a chance. Action and suspense. Autumn has had everyone she loved taken away violently. Lincoln just wants a chance with her. I loved this book! * Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *

Katie Reus’s romantic suspense & paranormal romance books are reliably sexy & entertaining with adventurous action plots, but unfortunately Deadly Past falls flat for me.

Autumn Perez was Ana Diaz before witnessing someone trying to dump a body. Now she’s living in Verona Bay & a member of WITSEC. After witnessing another crime, a bank robbery, she seeks comfort in the arms of her hot sheriff neighbor, Lincoln Jordan.

But their one night stand turns into a surprise pregnancy situation, made more complicated when someone seems to be threatening Autumn’s safety.

Lincoln’s an alpha who wants Autumn badly; he’s also content to give her space in the hopes that she’ll want something serious with him. I love how he respects her boundaries & how he even sets his own.

Deadly Past *is sexy & I enjoyed the round of secondary characters.

But I have a couple of substantial issues with the book, too. The romance between Lincoln & Autumn just doesn’t feel super believable to me. Instead it seems rushed. I wondered how much they really knew one another, beyond I think one serious convo about their pasts & the fact that they’re having a baby.

I can respect that relationships can & usually do move faster in romantic suspense but something about this one just doesn’t work well for me.

This book also has a lot of dramatic plot points & several of them aren’t related to the main story being told—and honestly, in my reading, distract from it.

Sadly I didn’t love this romance but I’m looking forward to reading a lot more by the author!

2.5⭐️. Deadly Past is out on October 20th. Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the complimentary ARC. All opinions provided are my own.
