Erica Ridley writes charming and fun romances. This one has a central couple that makes you want to root for, with steamy chemistry, and the antics were entertaining and funny! At the same time, as the first book in a series, it introduces a wide array of other characters who distract a little from the main romance. Still, this is a great read for m/f regency romance readers who enjoy a balance of humour, romance, and angst.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to review this title, but my reading interests have changed. I will not be finishing this book, but look forward to others in the future.
I ended up reading about 1/3 of the book before I dnfed. It was such a slow start that the payoff did not seem worth it. However, I heard really good things about this series! I think the premise is so unique. I would definitely try another book by Erica Ridley.
Really enjoyed this journey and look forward to reading more from this series. Highly entertaining and engaging romantic adventure filled with danger, secrets and sweetly sexy chemistry. Emotionally thrilling roller coaster from beginning to end.
Erica Ridley struck gold with her Wild Wynchesters series. THE DUKE HEIST is the perfect introduction as it sets the series and the family up nicely. What I loved most about the novel is the relationship the siblings have. Although they each have special skills, familial love and justice are at the center of their work. I cannot wait to see where this series goes later down the line!
At first, it didn't catch my eye right away. I liked the romance story, but the part about the orphan siblings and their "skills" was a bit confusing. Sadly, this was my least favourite Erica Ridley novel.
However, I'm looking forward to reading the next books.
<spoiler>The ending was a bit rushed, imho, but I liked that the Duke realized that he didn't need the money so much, but Chloe's love.</spoiler>
Erica gets better and better! I loved this story. The vulnerability of both characters made me root for them fiercely. The Wynchester clan are endearing. I would want to be a Wynchester too. What a man Bean was to take these cast offs, that humanity considered invisible, and give them a home, a family and a real chance at life. Lawrence seemed to have what all want, power and status, but what he lacked a band of invisibles and a clever beauty named Chloe had in abundance.
These are quick thoughts. I will elaborate later. Just know that I highly recommend the series. You won't be disappointed. I can't wait for the next book!
Thank you to Forever (Grand central Publishing) for an eARC of this book.
Erica Ridley found family was everything. I really enjoyed listening to this book. I am featuring it in an upcoming recommendation episode
Stayed up way too late to finish this delightful romance about art thievery, duty, and found family. Very similar to Bridgerton (the show) - a historical setting but a fresh and modern feel.
The Wynchesters are missing their ‘family painting’ and despite numerous requests, the new Duke of Faircliffe, Lawrence Gosling has not returned it to them. The wild bunch plan a way to steal it back with forgettable Miss Chloe Wynchester picked to do the deed! But everything gets way more complicated when she kidnaps the Duke and discovers that the painting she stole is a fake!
If you love a crazy, loving found family with a silent leader and a very proper Duke who cares more about his reputation than anything else, this is just the book for you!! I finished the nook in a single sitting and would definitely recommend it to all #historicalromance fans!!
It was a slow start and my first time reading a book from Erica Ridley but it was an okay book. The ending was nice and it the new series sounds interesting.
A very enjoyable historical romance with an entertaining heist plot and an excellent found family -- the Wynchesters won me over with all of their beautiful chaos. Admittedly, the romance itself didn't win me over quite as much as the Wynchesters -- Chloe's sibling, Tommy, in particular is a scene stealer as a secondary character -- but I think that's mostly due to the loveliness of the family itself, rather than a major shortcoming in the romantic arc.
Another light entertaining romantic read from Erica Ridley.
Who doesn't love a Duke, hijinks, romance and a happy ending.
I am obsessed with a good regency romance and this book is no expection. I highly, HIGHLY recommend this series and I can't wait to get all the other siblings stories!
When I'm in the mood for a good, fun, regency romp, Ms. Ridley never disappoints. I knew before I even read this that I would love it, and I wasn't wrong! Adding in some mystery and intrigue, this book was such a delight to read. The storyline was well paced and the characters were well-developed and interesting. Chloe kind of accidentally kidnaps Lawrence, the Duke of Faircliffe, when she is tasked by her family to retrieve a very important family painting. Throw in a little drama, romance, and blackmail, and you've got quite the love story. The storyline pulled me in right from the start and kept me engrossed till the end. Ms. Ridley did a wonderful job of bringing the story and characters to life. A humorous, fun, romantic story that is sure to put a smile on your face. Definitely recommend!
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This was such a delightful book and exactly what I needed. Witty dialogue, hilarious antics, perfect found family vibes, and the central conceit of accepting the person you love for exactly who they are without needing to impose limits on them. Chloe and Lawrence were such a charming couple too and I’m really excited for the sequel in this series between her sister and his almost-betrothed.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really liked the premise of this book and loved the concept of the heroine who is able to belnd in the background. However her other siblings were a little bit too much for me - their hijinks and personalities confused me a bit where I had a hard time keeping track of the characters
This is book one is a new series by Erica, and it was a wonderful kickoff to the series! This story had everything: beautifully written story, wonderfully colorful and interesting characters, drama, suspense, a lovely blend of humor along with some angst to be overcome.
This story is a winner on every level! Loved every page! Highly recommend it!
I always read and review Erica Ridley as soon as I get my hands on a copy. I always review on other platforms but always forget to review here. I love this new series!
Not sure what to think about this one. I had a hard time connecting with the story & characters. I think the writing is fine and just a me issue. I didn't feel pulled into the story like I normally do but the story was a good one.
