Rose McCarthy is a successful editor at Mode magazine, and nothing can break her stride. Well, almost nothing. When she receives a pitch to feature Hollywood's hottest young actress on the cover, she is shaken because the actress is exposed as having a steamy affair with Rose's son-in-law. Rose's daughter Nadia is crushed, and struggles to keep news of the affair away from her young children. Nadia's sisters swoop in and do everything in their power to protect their sister, but is it enough?

The Affair by Danielle Steel was a fantastic book that had you questioning your own long held beliefs on honesty, forgiveness, and marital fidelity. As per usual, Steel includes the perfect elements to keep the reader absolutely enthralled —- family drama, long held secrets revealed, fabulous exotic locations, and relatable characters. Seriously, this is a book that you will start and finish all in the same day. Carve out some time so you are ready!

The book opens with a strong female character, Rose, who is a successful longtime magazine editor and is forced to make the hard choice to glorify the affair of her son-in-law with a young starlet at the expense of her daughter and granddaughters. This is a situation that none of us would want to be faced with, but Rose handles it with grace. Her daughter, Nadia, finds herself party to the fallout of her husband’s, Nicolas, public affair with a rising movie star. Nadia has the support of her three sisters, Venetia, Olivia, and Athena, who all have different thoughts and advice for how Nadia should proceed. As the story progresses this seemingly straight forward plot brings out long held secrets and has everyone questioning their values.

An affair cause more than heartbreak, it can erase the love and fill you with emptiness. But, Nadia demonstrated her strength of character as she continued to be an excellent mother, daughter, and sister despite how broken she felt inside. She found that love did not die as quickly as she always thought, that it was more like her life blood was slowly leaking away even as she was trying her best to put it behind her.

Steel as usual provides excellent storytelling with a few twists and a satisfying conclusion to much of the family drama. She tells this story with grace and true empathy. There is a richness and a joy that leaps off of the pages despite the damage to the human heart and the fallout that an affair can cause to not just those directly involved but the entire family unit.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own. I knew that I would be skeptical of this book from the title, but I request everything Danielle Steel puts out, and I wanted to give this a fair chance. I didn’t find that there was too much depth to this story and it lacked dimension. I did like the relationships between the sisters in the story, however, that’s about where it ended.

I give this. 5 star rating.. This is about a family that survives a husband’s affair. It’s about betrayal and how they overcome it. It’s also about a mother of the family and how she try’s to protect the family. This is a very good book and I would definitely recommend.

Danielle Steel NEVER disappoints! The Affair has it all. A love story, family, survival, returning home- what I love and look for in all of her books!

Four sisters' lives are all impacted by the actions of Rose McCarthy's son-in-law. One affair changes everything for the family. Will they survive the scandal? Will the backbone of the family be broken? Or, will it bring them closer than ever before?

Thank you (so much!) to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this amazing book! I loved it!

The Affair is about the painful journey to discover who you are, what you want, and how much mercy and negotiation you are capable of in order to be loved. It's about finding yourself at the fork of life when everything is on the line. It's about the hard lessons we are forced to learn about others and ourselves. Right up until its final twist, this attention-grabbing novel is full of powerful insights about who we love, how much and even how much we love ourselves. In this captivating novel, Danielle Steel explores a glittering affair that rings throughout an entire family, from the wounded wife to her husband who is blinded by passion for a younger woman, who by the way is pregnant with hubby’s child, to the wife's close-knit sisters and their mother. A great read for those of us that need to do some soul searching.

Danielle Steel spins a tale of marriage, family, and emotional hardship in this book. Her characters include a mother of four, who is the editor of a fashion magazine, and her daughters all diverse but successful. One of the daughters is married to a Frenchman that is a best-selling author. She finds herself in a marriage dilemma. Her husband of over ten years has a well-publicized affair with a young movie star. These two, the parents of two lovely young daughters face a challenge. The book contains a few twists and turns, but the main characters are what the book mainly addresses. Will the marriage survive the affair? Will love conquer all? Read the latest in the Danielle Steel romance books to find out.

It has been hard to concentrate during the pandemic and this Danielle Steele book was just what I needed. I was invested in the story from the first page. It held my attention to the end.

I am a huge fan of Danielle Steel! I am always amazed at each story she tells, and she has told many! The Affair was so interesting because it not only told the story of the 3 people involved, the wife, the husband, and the girlfriend. It also included the families of those involved and the effect on them. Their opinions on the outcome of the affair were varied, very much effected by their life stories.. I was transported into being a fly on the wall and witnessing it all! Honestly, couldn't predict how the story would end! Very satisfying. Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the wonderful opportunity to read this advance copy.

I am a huge fan of Danielle Steel, and have read every book she has written through the years. While this book had a decent plot, it fell short for me and I was not as enamored of it as I have been with all her other books. The story centers around a family of four sisters and a widowed mom. The baby sister has had to deal with her husband's very public affair with a movie star and the baby they conceived. The family rallies around Nadia and supports her through the tough times. Her husband, Nicolas, has regretted the affair and spends the book pleading with Nadia for another chance.
I felt the characters were not as developed as usual in Danielle Steel's books, and the story was very repetitive. Not my favorite by this author, but not a bad read either.

The editor of a magazine akin to Vogue has to put a model on the front cover, despite the fact that the model is sleeping with the editor's daughter. Ending was predictable and, to me, unlikeable.

Danielle Steel brings us the story of Rose McCarthy and her family. Rose is the editor-in-chief of Mode Magazine. She is the epitome of style and fashion. Her husband had passed away recently leaving her with only her daughters and their families. All three children have families of their own and live around the world. We are brought into their lives when Rose is getting their September issue ready and a meeting about the front cover model brings her personal life right into her work life. The model they want to use is in a publicized affair with a married director. Little do her staff know that the married director is her son-in-law. This prompts her to gather the family together for support.

Danielle Steel allows us to enter into the private lives of these women from the initial heartbreaking moment of learning about the publicized infidelity and all the emotions that these women go through each in their own way of dealing with the situation. We learn what each woman brings to the table in terms of experience, advice, and just being there for each other. Will this family be pulled apart or pull together because of this? What will happen with her daughter and son-in-law especially since they have children together and his affair was so publicized? Danielle Steel has a way that reels you in and keeps you wanting more. I enjoyed reading this story and look forward to the next adventure.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Delacorte Press for this privilege.

I always request a Danielle Steel book when they are available in NetGalley because I have read them all. This one was just ok. The whole book revolves around “The Affair”, hence the name of the book. Nadia drove me crazy, constantly taking back Nicolas who was the one who got “caught” having the affair and of course, there were consequences they all had to live with. But somehow I could not put this book down and wanted to see how it ended. This is my 35th Danielle Steel novel I have read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. This will be published in Spring 2021.

Great characters and an intriguing main storyline, so this was a decent book. While I didn't exactly relate to Nadia and the choices she ultimately made, I liked her and had a lot of sympathy for her situation. And the peripheral characters were enjoyable as well, particularly Nadia's sisters. My main issue is that it took WAY too much time to even get to Nadia's character. The entire first chapter, the first 14% of the book, is spent on Nadia's mother Rose and her job, and background history on the family and Nadia's sisters. This is the second book of Steel's I've read recently where it just took far too long to get to the main character and the point of the book, and it's frankly annoying. I spend too much time trying to get into what I think is the main character, only to find out that it's not. So over all good book, but the organization of it fell flat for me.

Rose McCarthy is the high powered editor of Mode magazine. She is torn when her staff wants to feature a young actress on their big September cover and Rose finds that the actress is having an affair with her son-in-law. The novel revolves around the reactions of Rose's four daughters, as well as Rose herself, to this affair. As family members surround the injured party, Nadia, family secrets are revealed. Athena, the oldest, is a tv chef who lives with her partner and dogs in LA. Olivia is a New York judge married to her law school professor with a teenage son. Venetia is a fashion designer who also lives in NY with her husband and three kids. Nadia lives in Paris. She is an interior designer with two small kids. Her author husband has. strayed after meeting a young actress on a movie set of his book.

I liked this well enough. The character development was sound and the descriptions of their luxurious lifestyles was fun to read about. It was a bit predictable and it bothered me that all of the daughters had to have a man in their lives. Though Rose is a recent widow, she too has most always had a partner. I would have liked Steel to have one of them be single and successful just to show that all women don't need a husband/partner.

Another great Danielle Steel read. The Affair tells the story of the 5 McCarthy women of New York - Rose is the widowed matriarch of the family, Her daughters, Athena, Venetia, and Olivia fly to Paris to support their youngest sister, Nadia, whose husband Nicolas's affair to a young starlet has brought many mixed emotions to Nadia. Arriving in Paris, the sisters enjoy sister time together, but also reveals that Olivia also had an affair 15 years earlier that produced her son, Will. At Will's birth, she was not sure who the father was. Ultimately, she learned that her lover was Will's dad. Nicolas's affair produces a son born out of wedlock as well as many confusing times for Nadia and her two daughters.

Each woman in Nadia's life has a different reaction to Nicolas's affair. Nadia, however, must learn to listen to herself and determine what is important to her, and every action she takes in the story Nadia learns to become a stronger woman, mother and wife.
