This is a story about lost memories, and stolen lives.
This story was full of interesting elements that didn’t feel fully realized. Conceptually, there’s a lot here that I really liked, and I think that with significantly more world building I would’ve loved this. Example: the protagonist has a small device she can use when she’s anxious, that releases a small surge of dopamine. Super cool, right? But there’s no additional information about such devices, or the technology behind them. The memory study that the book focuses on is also vague, and then there’s a sudden criminal element that seems really cool... but is over as soon as it started.
That being said, this is a very readable book, and the characters are interesting and flawed in compelling ways.

Thank you so much NetGalley & Serial Box for this e Arc!
This was an interesting story about a mother and daughter going on a road trip to remember shared memories - memories that the mother shared with the daughter through a new mind-meld type technology. The daughter knows little of her mom's life before she was born and she'd love to know more.
But the story felt very light. I'd have loved more before story and more depth in-between. I think there's a lot of potential to really get to know Alex - the daughter. I didn't buy her need to control or her doing so much for her mom because she seemed to know very little about her mother in general. And she seemed to have this endless supply of money for only working part time.
However, the story was short, fast paced and definitely kept me wondering what was going on. I didn't love it but I did find it interesting.
This book is amazing. Fascinating plot. Mom, cassie, never talked much about Alex's father. When she does talk, her stories are not trustworthy. Cassie talks Alex into participating in an experiment which, if successful, will allow Cassie to transfer her memories to Alex. Twists and turns abound. The book keeps you guessing. What Alex had not counted on was Cassie's 'memories' of a murder! The novel is part sci-fi and part thriller.
Thanks to Netgalley, Sara Shepard, Ellen Goodlett, and Serial Box for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was so good, creepy, thrilling and OMGee!!! Having a loved one's memories and experiencing them yourself?! Just wow and overwhelming., Alex and Cassie have a very difficult relationship but somehow learn a lot about each other in this book. So many twists and turns. Very chilling thriller with some sci-fi ascpects.
Loved it and highly recommended!

This was a nice quick mystery set at some point in the near future. It was an easy read and kept me guessing g until the end.
This was written as “Episodes” so I could totally see this as a limited series on Hulu or something.
Even at the end, you are still somewhat left wondering what is real and what is an implanted memory. Interesting premise !
What if you could share memories from your mother's past and actually feel like you were there, would you do it? This concept held so much promise for me and I enjoyed the idea of how the author's would achieve this type of theme. With the description of the book you know that Alex (the daughter) gets glimpses of her mom (Cassie's memories) that she believes is witness to a murder or death of someone. Alex wants information on her father and is hoping these memories will help her discover who he is. As part of the experiment they need to follow a road trip that Cassies went on but the memories Alex has are not the same as Cassie's and you wonder what the truths are and if this experiment is causing more harm than good. As the days go on, it seems this trip is doing more harm than good for both Cassie and Alex and the surprising twists in discovering the truths were too rushed and not fleshed out enough. The ending was flat and forced, as if a deadline was looming and the authors decided to just end the story. I felt dissatisfied with the conclusion and let down as I started out on this journey with the mother and daughter and it abruptly ended with no real conclusion or satisfactory ending for the memory experiment, or for their relationship. Thank you NetGalley and the Publisher for an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Memory Lane was an interesting and twisty thriller about a mother's memories being implanted in her daughter's brain. Through Cassie's memories, Alex stumbles upon a murder that happened when her mother was younger.
Exploring a complicated mother /daughter relationship, the story was tripping and easy to follow and kept me guessing until the very end.
As a huge Sara Shepard fan, I was immediately drawn to this book. Can you believe she co-authored a sci-fi book?! This right there and I was in.
Memory Lane is actually more than that; it's an expertly written combination of thriller and sci-fi. The plot follows Alex and Cassie - a mother and daughter pair who participate in a science experience about memory implantation. It's a good opportunity for the two to get closer as Alex will have the opportunity to see her mother's happy memories in her own mind - and hopefully also learn more about who her father was.
But then, Alex ends up remembering a murder. Cassie swears it didn't happen. Who is telling the truth?
I was on the edge of my seat for a good portion of this book. I liked how the delicate issue of memory and mental health is handled in the text. On the other hand, I didn't fall for the ending and wished that Cassie's unreliability was explored more.

Cassie has talked her daughter, Alex into doing an experiment with her. It's a mother daughter memory experiment. The memories are shared from mother to daughter. Alex hopes this will help her learn who her father is. The experiment takes Alex and her mother through two weeks of Cassie's life when she was younger when she was pregnant with Alex. The journey isn't turning out the way it was supposed to. Now Alex and Casdie are looking down the barrel of a gun.
Exciting reading.
.
Predictable, and requires suspension of disbelief, but still a fun story line. Engaging relationship between Alex and her mother made for an enjoyable quick read.
What an interesting story line- free spirit mother Cassie talks straight-arrow daughter Alex into participating in a research study in which selected: memories from Cassie are transferring d to Alex. Alex agrees because Cassie has hidden so much of her life from her, including any Information about Alex's father. But right away Alex starts experiencing scary memories which Cassie swears never happened. Who is telling the truth? Are they in danger? Who can they trust?
All in all an enjoyable book, although you want to shake the main characters at times. The only drawback is that I thought it ended rather abruptly.
My thanks to Net Galley for an ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
I had high hopes for this book given the comparisons to Inception and Recursion. However I felt that the book was too short to build the appropriate tension and instead relied on constant gaslighting of the main character as an attempt to create a sense of unreliability in the mother. It seemed like towards the end there was such pressure to tie everything up neatly that I left the book with a sour taste in my mouth. Overall just disappointing unfortunately.
Taking a trip down memory lane is usually a nostalgic and pleasant experience. This book is like a ride down the sci-fi expressway. Would you want your mother to share her memories with you? Our main character, Alex, did in hopes of discovering why her mother was always so elusive about her past. Would this discovery allow Alex to put her childhood into some perspective? As you read and you start to accept this memory transference as a new scientific project you learn that it’s not so new……..and exactly who else has participated? It’s a cliff hanger ending to an exciting read…….
i really enjoyed reading this book, the characters were great and I really enjoyed the mystery and scifi elements. I'd be interested in reading more in this universe.
A sincere thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I can't stress enough how much I enjoyed this book! The characters are so well built that I managed to put myself in their shoes, the settings couldn't have been better described, and as for the story, I would've liked a bit more depth to some scenes. But that didn't ruin my experience with this book at all, so read this one!
I would like to thank the publisher and Net Galley for a free copy, in exchange for a review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story! The technology was fun and intriguing. The concept of memory transferral is fascinating on its own; throw in a suspenseful plot and things heat up fast!
This story is a gripping page turner. I only gave it four stars because I felt it ended abruptly. Once things start clicking into place, the book ends. I have questions dang it!!
Book two?
DUDE!!! This was epic! It feels a lot like Assassin's Creed with a wonderful touch of family drama that kept me on the edge of my seat! This is worth the read!

A very good thriller. Alex is convinced by her mother to take part in research into transferring memories from mother to daughter. Cassie, her mother, and Alex go on a trip to recapture Cassie’s most happy memories. Alex remembers things that Cassie says aren’t true, but Alex is convinced they are. Are Cassie’s memories true or are Alex’s version true. You’ll have to read the novel to find out. There are many twists and turns throughout along with lots of suspense. The ending is eventful also. I as very pleased by this thriller and look forward to reading more by this author.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. When a woman receives her mothers memories she realizes her mother saw a crime committed but has no recollection of it. Someone has gone through many lengths to make sure her mother does not remember. This book captured my attention from the first page.
I was intrigued by the description of Memory Lane and wasn't disappointed. Transferring memories from mother to daughter results in a tense trip back into Cassie's past. Alex learns that her mother has hidden more than she imagined including her father's identity. Through a series of eerie memory flashes and meeting former friends of her mother's, Alex becomes unhinged. A confrontation in the woods resolves her father's identity, and results in an unexpected twist. I really enjoyed Memory Lane and would recommend it to anyone who loves psychological thrillers.
