I absolutely loved the suspense in this book. The authors did an amazing job with this book. I loved the characters and the story so much I didn't want the book to end. Excellent read.
Strong, Silent Cowboy is a magnificent romantic suspense by Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick. Team Leigh/Chadwick has provided readers with a well-written book and furnished it with a spectacular cast of characters. Sallie was on the run and hiding in Deer Haven. When she meets Jacob she's stunned that he doesn't recognize her and he has a different name from three years ago, but then, so does she. Jacob and Sallie's story is packed with drama, humor, smokin' hot sexy bits, action and suspense. I loved every page of this book and look forward to reading more from Lora Leigh in the future. Strong, Silent Cowboy is book 2 of the Moving Violations Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was an okay book. There were times when I felt like I was head-hopping and that the point of view would abruptly change from one character to the next which would sometimes take me out of the action. However, the storyline itself was enjoyable and there was enough that the author kept secret but was hinting at that made the pacing consistent. I wanted to find out how everything tied together and if Jacob would remember Sallie from their weekend spent together many years earlier.
This is a tough book for me to review; I'm not exactly sure how I felt about it. First of all, the title had me thinking this would be a true cowboy story, and while Jacob owns a ranch and wears cowboy boots, we really don't get immersed in that lifestyle. Jacob is ex-CIA; he's most definitely an alpha male, as well as bossy, controlling, and sexually dominate. Sallie, while described as tough, is quite the opposite. She loses all willpower around Jacob, and let's him call the shots.
I never felt a great sense of danger in the story, although the climax was well written. The storyline is more erotica than suspense, as lengthy sex scenes make up a large portion of the story. All else is kind of secondary, including the the emotional connection between Jacob and Sallie. Even the last scene is an intimate one, which had me a bit baffled as immediately before this, a major detail is provided to Jacob by Sallie's stepfather, one that is just brushed aside.
Overall, in the last half of the book, I wanted to start skimming, but something had me hanging on. It may not be a favorite of mine, but I'm glad I finished it.
My thanks to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review Strong, Silent Cowboy by Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick.
Very good book, easy read. There is a LOT of sex in it so if that's not your thing then maybe skip this one. I did enjoy it however and it definitely passed the time.
**I received a copy of Strong, Silent Cowboy from St. Martins Press and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are my own and not solicited**
Strong, Silent Cowboy by Lora Leigh is the second book in her Moving Violations series I did read the first book One Tough Cowboy however this one can be read as a stand alone. First off: You'll definitely need a really BIG fan because this is a very hot book with a cowboy and a sassy lady but as the story goes on they have a past only Jake has no memory of their meeting (there's a good reason) but I have to agree with everyone there's no epilogue just a short HEA.
Kyra/Sallie is a manager for a local business and doesn't like to go out but she's also on the run from a seriously creepy folks too. She knows Jake and has kept him at a huge distance except now when she gets talked into going out to the local bar. What happens next is when you get the fan because these two together are combustible but when his grandma is attack (Never fear she's a great shot with her trusty shotgun) Jake's adamant he's going to protect her after thugs find her as well. Jake is former CIA but due to an incident in his past he doesn't remember a Sallie but he has friends who are former special ops who'll do whatever it takes but it will take all of their resources and contacts to take out the attackers if all of them want to live. Giving out any more information would spoil the story for everyone so I'll end here.
Yes it was a bit of a let down at the end and yes I did want to find out more from their previous lives in Switzerland but all in all this book is worthy of 4 very sizzling stars.
I haven't read a book by Lora Leigh in a long time because they are really erotic, this book was no different. I liked it because of the suspense and the ending wasn't what I expected. What I didn't like was that there were too many sex scenes. They fight then they have sex. They get attacked then have sex. I don't want to spoil it for others, It's still a good book to read. I think without so many sex scenes, it would probably be a little more better. I am grateful that Netgalley and the publishers let me read this in exchange for an honest review.
I haven’t read Lora Leigh in quite some time and was happy to be provided an opportunity to read this book entitled “Strong, Silent Cowboy. Although the story was an enjoyable read, I did have difficulty following along as it did become repetitive in some areas. The story could have been developed a bit more specifically with regards to Sallie’s reasoning for why she ran that linked back to Jacob and the history between them. Sallie was on the run from her past, but the story did not spell out more definitively at the conclusion of the story.
I was put a little aback with both characters. I know that Sallie had a past, but I thought her running from it would have made her a stronger, independent woman and not as timid. On the other hand, yes, we know that Jacob was a CIA agent, but his macho persona from agent to cowboy was a bit over the top for me. Some of the minor characters were more enjoyable in the story.
The sex/intimate scenes were hot and steamy but a bit overdone. I found them too repetitive (same intimacy) in each scene lacking spontaneity or different ways of pleasure… unlike some reads of her Bound Hearts series which I thoroughly enjoyed…however, that was ages ago.
Could this story have been developed a bit better? I believe there are places for development. Although this book fell a bit short for me, for the most part I did find it a nice comfy read. I like Ms. LL as an author and my 3-Stars are based on that and other stories I’ve read by her although this one was not quite what I was expecting.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC in exchange for my fair and honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed are completely my own.
Strong, Silent Cowboy is hard for me to review. The story itself was good but there was way too many sex scenes, it was more of an erotic read.
A man suddenly meets a woman; who is on the run. She seems somehow familiar to him; yet she´s not.
A kaleidoscope of lost memories gnaws at his subconscious.
Driven by a recurring dream about an unknown woman, a picture gradually comes together.
Suddenly the unknown woman from his dreams gets the face of this woman.
His woman.
And suddenly the past catches up with him and a race for life and death begins.
"Strong, silent Cowboy" is an action packed love story and a true page turner.
The sex scenes are hot, very detailed and yet tastefully written.
I loved this book so much that I'd like to read more of Deer Haven's sexy alpha males.
Woot! Very smexy, hawt read! The intrigue starts at page one and had my heart beating fast for most of the book. Sallie Hamblen is what I’d call lost…there’s so much going on with her, and in her past, and I don’t want to give any spoilers. She doesn’t trust easily – nor should she – and then she runs smack, dab into that past…
Jacob Donovan is a former CIA agent who has a ranch. The ranch connection is important as that is how he pops up on Sallie’s radar. Read the book; Ms. Leigh and Ms. Chadwick do a MUCH better job of weaving this intrigue and story than I ever could. Each chapter peeled back another tiny bit of layer of the story and kept me reading straight thru.
It is a VERY sexy story, what I’d expect from these authors, but it is also a big part of Strong, Silent Cowboy. Really enjoyed this read.
Almost a second chance romance.... kind of
I thought this was a typical, sexually driven story line from Lora Leigh.
I did enjoy the story..... not so much the blunt, abrupt ending. However, the characters and dialog where good. The plot was original and well written All in all I though it was a great addition to LL's list.
This book I requested to read from St. Martin Publishing Company. This is a book written by authors Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick. This book was on fire. Sometimes people from your past have the best intention possible and other want whats best for themselves. Things aren't what they seems. When the past comes smack into Sallie she puts her big girl boots on! And Jacob don't stand in his way when he wants something. And do you really know someone? This book isn't for thr faint of heart! Lots of steamy romance, mystery and danger! This is for a mature reader
I found the female lead character vacillated between being strong and being a weakling. The lead male was abusive in the way he deliberately tried to impregnate her both as a 18!! year old and again 6 years later- without her knowledge or consent.
To get straight to the point...I LOVED this book. The first chapter had me hooked and it just got better and better.
I enjoyed the intrigue, though at times it gave me shivers. The sexy times were just that, SEXY.
Tears will be shed, swooning will happen.
Some unanswered parts of the intrigue left me wanting more.
Overall, a definite 5 star read
Steamy sex and suspense make for a page turning book that burns up the pages. Jacob keeps to heat turned up 100%
Right from the very beginning my heart was already invested in Sallie’s story. My heart just broke for her when she realizes that Jacob does not remember her after three days of the most memorable nights of her life and then three years going by with her basically trying to stay away from him. Jacob has noticed her around after their “first” introduction 3 years before, there is something about her that he recognizes but could not quite grasp from where. Now they are in the same bar and Jacob decides he is done waiting around. The pull of Jacob was too strong for Sallie and is engaged in another explosive night.
As the story moves along, we learn so much more about Sallie. She is actually on the run and has been trying to keep a low profile. Jacob also has a story that explains why Sallie seems so familiar to him but can’t seem to remember. When all is revealed and danger surrounds Sallie, Jacob is determined to keep her safe and never letting her go.
There are so many twists and turns and secrets everywhere! Sallie and Jacob’s story definitely kept me on my toes. Like in many of Lora Leigh’s books the chemistry between the characters are off the charts, the steam factor is definitely high. I only had the problem with the ending, there is a HEA but I felt like it ended too abruptly.
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for giving me the opportunity to read this complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
The story of Sallie and Jacob. They met years ago and he doesn't remember her, which upsets Sallie. But not everyone is who they seem, and the story unfolds you realise that they are both in danger.
A great read!
When Sallie meets Jacob, they are both different people.......literally! They have three amazing days in bed then Jacob is gone and Sallie is left on the run. Fast forward three years and they are thrown together in Jacobs home town. Sallie is in trouble and Jacob is just the man to help. This book has steam and action and drama and its amazing.
Sallie and Jacob in Strong Silent Cowboy
This book seems mis-titled. My patrons would think this is a cowboy tale when it is only very marginally so. It is more a spy thriller. Conversely my patrons who love spy thrillers are very unlikely to pickup a cowboy book.
That said, it was a good thriller. However, it left some very important questions unanswered, especially who was orchestrating the attacks and if she would be safe now or if the high level bad guys got away with it. Sallie was likable and seemed capable. Jacob was sensuous and macho. The love scenes were HOT. Even so, I would give this a 3 therefore would not purchase it for my library - my budget only allows 5s with a sprinkling of 4s.
