Nora Roberts never disappoints in her books. I loved Legacy!
This is a story of a mother and daughter. The mom had an affair in college with her professor and gets pregnant. He tried to make her life the baby but thankfully he failed.
This is the story of their lives and the horrible things that happen to them.
I couldn't put this book down. The re excitement at the end made my heart beat so fast.
I highly recommend this book you won't regret it!
Nora Roberts introduces us to Adrian Rizzo, on the day she meets her daddy for the first time. The day he almost kills her, but her mother Lina steps in and saves them both.
We grow up with Adrian, learning about her Mom’s Yoga Baby Franchise and spending time with her beloved grandparents in Traveler’s Creek, Maryland, where she makes her first friend, Maya Wells and crushes on Maya’s older brother Raylan.
Back in New York she attends private school, and during her senior year she befriends the kids who sit at the geek table in the lunchroom. Teesha Kirk, Hector Sung, and Loren Moorhead help her create her own yoga videos and together they launch a business. After her videos go live, she receives a poem talking about her death. Her mom and their manager Harry assure her it’s all a part of the business, but they share it with the FBI. Each year around Valentine’s Day she receives another poem, but life goes on.
We follow Adrian, her friends, mom and first crush as they marry, navigate their businesses, lose loved ones and make connections. Adrian moves back to Traveler’s Creek after her Nonna dies, and her friends follow. The tale focuses on Adrian and the life she is building with chapters thrown in from the perspective of the poem writer, who we learn is killing women across the country.
We also get chapters from a private investigation Lina hires when Adrian receives poems more frequently. The story has this small-town charm with a slow burning romance and all the while the suspense is building we learn more about who the poet is as the danger escalates.
You cannot help but like Adrian from her moral compass to her love of family and willingness to help advance others. Raylan is a comic-book geek, and his story will tug at your heartstrings. It delighted me to see the relationship develop. The dogs, kids, and their friends all added to the story from mother-daughter relationships to girls vs boys.
Roberts allowed the reader to connect with the characters and feel a part of their lives. The suspense built slowly and in the background, but each change of perspective brought us details and moved the threat closer to them.
Fans of small-town romance stories, mysteries and suspense will find Legacy checks all the boxes. While some of the elements felt familiar, I found myself invested and eager for a happily ever after.
The best way to describe this book is emotional. It hits you right in the gut and you have no other option other than to cry. There are times the writing was boring but the emotional impact made up for it.
While this is the first Nora Roberts book I've picked up in years, it definitely won't be the last.
A young mother, starting off in the exercise business, manages to become more than she ever imagined. Successful and happy the mother-daughter duo managed just fine on their own until tragedy struck and the two had to fend for their lives.
Moving past the trauma, the story focuses on the daughter's path to success. She starts her own lucrative exercise platform, all while managing to keep her family close. Things seem well in her world until the threatening messages begin. This takes her all the way back to the beginning, where she has to fight for her life all over again.
The engaging plot line and well-rounded characters make this book one to pick up! Can't wait for the next one!
Legacy was good read for me. It was a slow buildup with solid characters that had some great mix of romance and suspense. I did enjoy how nothing was rushed and the story played out for quite a few years. It allowed the reader to see the characters in different stages of their lives and see them live and grow. Loved all the different relationships whether it’s family or friends. It also gave hope of never to late to fix it if you want to.
Legacy by Nora Roberts is a novel involving Lina and Adrian Rizzo. When Adrian is seven years old, she meets her father for the first time when he arrives at their home angry and drunk. He ends up injuring Adrian, Lina, and Lina’s friend, Mimi before his death. This violence jump starts Legacy. I thought Legacy was contained good writing with relatable characters. I liked the mystery portion of the story. While it is easy to identify the guilty party, it gave the story more depth and interest. I did feel that Legacy was more women’s fiction than romantic suspense, mystery, or thriller. The story centers around the relationship between Lina and her daughter, Adrian. Lina is a woman lacking in maternal instinct. She does, though, have great business acumen which propels her to create an empire. Lina’s life and actions shape Adrian’s life (her goals and relationships). There are some great secondary characters. I loved Adrian’s grandparents. They were such sweet, loving people who lived in a charming town. I also liked Adrian’s “nerdy” friends: Hector, Teesha, and Loren. Adrian and her friends developed a special friendship that evolved into so much more. I did feel the story was too long with 435 pages. The story became bogged down in places with too many details. I enjoy descriptive writing, but I felt this went a bit overboard. The story could have easily been edited down. I was turned off by the foul language (there is so much of it). Even a ten year old uses foul language. Nora Roberts, at one time, never used this type of language in her stories. I did feel the story lacked suspense (for a romantic suspense). While Legacy had some good parts, I felt this story missed the mark. This will not, though, keep from reading this author’s books especially since I have been reading them since I was a teenager. I appreciated the ending which nicely wrapped up the story. Legacy is an interesting tale with yoga poses, ominous poems, fine friends, a motivated mother, gracious grandparents, nutritious noshes, and an alarming menace.
Nora Roberts never disappoints! With her newest book, Legacy, the suspense builds all the way through the book. Strong women, family bonds and friendships all make this a wonderful story. Two awesome dogs also play a part in this book and they will definitely make you smile. Another winner in my "book"!
I loved the book at the beginning but as it went on I got more and more frustrated. If you don’t look too deeply it’s a good entertaining book, but if your mind kicks in then it starts falling apart. Having just read Awakening (and adored that one) I felt like she was really invested in The Dragon Heart Legacy and this book as just checking a box to fill contractual obligations. And being a lifelong Nora Roberts fan, it was disappointing.
The problems I had:
Adrian being involved with yoga reminds me too much of Yoga with Adriane on YouTube. Feels borrowed, not original. I got vibes of Autumn from Beachbody too.
Raylan - New readers probably won’t notice but if you are familiar with Ms. Roberts' older catalog, Raylan is almost an exact duplicate of Ford Sawyer from Tribute. Both are graphic novelists, tall and lanky leaning towards skinny, get inspired by Cilla/Adrian and create/draw a character based on her.
Adrian - She’s bossy and a know-it-all that borders on obnoxious. She’s too perfect. There is nothing wrong with being a self assured, strong woman but dropping weights off and designing an exercise program without being asked crosses a line in my opinion. Wealthy, self assured, knows what's best for everyone, has no work challenges, perfect house, etc. It was boring.
The relationship - felt out of the blue. They are just getting reacquainted, they have dinner that neither are sure is a date, yet they end up in the bedroom and are suddenly in love? Where is the dialogue? Where is the sharing of their feelings? Where is the romance?
Bradley- bringing up the are you going to have “the sex with her” to his dad…. Too reminiscent of the conversation between Zoe’s son Simon and Brad in the book Key of Valor.
The Poet - figured out who it was really early on. I didn’t know WHO specifically, but I knew WHAT they were.
All in all, I felt like I was reading a Danielle Steel novel, who I stopped reading years ago. Wealthy, privileged family, perfect characters, formulaic, predictable, boring. Where is the struggle, where is the growth, where is the emotional investment?
No one pulls you into the page like Nora Roberts. I've been reading her books for over twenty years and this is my favorite of all her standalones. Full of interesting and complex characters, a beautiful love story, a sense of community and family. The losses are beautifully written and made me cry. The healing made me smile. And the suspense had me holding my breath.
This is a very readable, fast-moving story that covers almost 30 years. The settings are Washington, D.C., New York City, and a small Maryland town near the Civil War's Antietam Battlefield. Since I live in a small Maryland town near the Civil War's Antietam Battlefield (near the author's home), I can relate! Adrian Rizzo meets her father when she is 7 years old, right before he tries to kill her and her mother. That is the start of this adventurous action/love story. Enjoyable, fun, quick read. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing an ARC.
My Review of Legacy by Nora Roberts:
Emotional, Romance, Love Between Family, and Friend, Danger, Plot Twist
Adrian Rizzo's life changes forever at the age of seven. A father she's never met, Jonathan Bennett tries to kill her, but dies instead by the hands of her mother, Lina Rizzo, a fitness video making star. Lina drops off Adrian with her grandparents for the summer to recover. Adrian begins to make friends with Maya, and Ryland Wells, the boy of 10 with beautiful green eyes.
We follow Adrian through her High School, and College years as she makes life long friendships. One thing that interferes with her happiness is that she start receiving poetry of the life threatening kind every February. This goes on for 10 yrs., and what she doesn't know is that the women from her father's past are slowly being killed. Adrian with the help of family, and friends including Ryland Wells who she's started a romance with rush to find out who the killer is before Adrian becomes the next and final victim.
Adrian Rizzo was raised by her successful, entrepreneur mother, Lina. She'd never met her father - until the day he shows up at their home and tries to kill her.
Shaken by the incident, Lina drops Adrian with her parents in the small town of Travelers Creek where Lina grew up. Adrian enjoys the lazy summer with her grandparents. She meets the girl who will be her best friend, Maya, and Maya's 10 year old brother, Raylan and develops the beginnings of a school girl crush. She's sorry to have to leave with her mother at the end of the summer.
At 17, Adrian finds herself the new girl at school. With a vision of her own, she seeks out the students she knows will be able to help her make the vision a reality. But finding success comes with its pitfalls. Adrian receives the first of a series of threatening poems in the mail. Assured by everyone around her they are nothing to worry about, Adrian tries to put them out her mind, but the worry lingers.
Several years later, the head of her own yoga and fitness brand, and looking for a change of scenery, Adrian moves to Travelers Creek,. She revives happy memories, rekindles old friendships, and finds her crush on Raylan has never really gone away. But the menacing poetry follows her to her new home, becoming more threatening and more frequent. While she tries to dismiss them, Adrian can't help but feel that something - or someone - is coming for her.
As the story flows through the lives of both Adrian and Raylan, the secondary characters become very important. This story is about about so much more than just the suspense or the romance, but focuses on relationships and the bonds of family, of friendship, and of friends that become family, of love and of the roots that you put down when you find the place where you belong.. There are so many beautiful scenes in this story that made me stop and take a breath, and grab a tissue.
While I am an avid reader of Nora Roberts; stories, this is the best I've read. Heavy on emotion, this book has so much to say that after finishing it, I took a day to absorb it, then went back and read it again to make sure I didn't miss anything. If you're a Nora Roberts fan, you'll love this book. If you've never read a Nora Roberts novel before, this is a great place to start.. And if you're not a romance reader, this book will make you one.
LEGACY will hold you completely spellbound! As always, Nora Roberts weaves a story filled with characters that attract, enthrall, or, in some instances, repulse you.

This was my first Nora Roberts book. I’ve seen several of her TV movies, but have never actually read any of her books. I see now why she is such a popular author. I really loved this book. I’m always a fan of a good love story that also includes some mystery and suspense.
The synopsis of this book focuses on the relationship between Adrian and her stalker, but this book is so much more than that. This story spans decades. It’s filled with relationships between family, friends, and lovers. It’s filled with love and loss, and finding love again. I really felt like I was part of the family and community while reading it.
Admittedly there is a lot going on in this book. There are several stories happening at once (even within a graphic novel) and we learn about a lot of different characters in this book. I loved learning so much about all these characters and seeing how the stories intertwined.
I’ll definitely keep my eye out for future book by Nora Roberts.
I must say is the first time I get to review Nora Roberts, this is a thriller story about Adrian and I should say it has multiple POV and lots of characters, the story twists and is more about family story than anything else slow on suspense and romance, it dragged a lot for me, it just didn't really hook up to what I was expecting. The characters are interesting, but I didn't get to know them more than the basic, the storyline kept me reading, but honestly it wasn't my cup of tea in reality and for all the hype this author has it didn't do it for me this time, maybe other books from her would. As for Nora's writing can't deny she is good, I like the way she phrased some things but in this case the describes things sometimes it got to be too much and I read a lot and genres where the description is everything, but the story definitely missed the mark for me.
It's been a while since I've read a Nora Roberts book so I was excited to dive into this one. It starts off dropping you right into the action, which thrilled me, but it just doesn't stay there. There is a lot of depth and detail to this book, which is usually one of the things I love about Nora Roberts books - she introduces you to complete and complex characters with a lot of nuance, but in Legacy it's almost too much. There was so much detail around certain aspects of Adrian's life that it felt like it slowed the story down rather than kept it moving forward. Normally those details are what I love, but in certain parts it was just a bit too much. Adrian was also frustrating at times. She would do things and I get the sense maybe Nora Roberts was trying to make those character traits seem endearing- telling people what to eat, pushing fitness routines on them- but instead I found it irritating since it's something I wouldn't like in someone in my real life.
This is a romantic suspense, and I very much enjoyed this aspect of the book. It's a very slow burn romance and you really get to know them well before they finally get together. But it also dealt a lot with the complexities that can come with mothers and daughters and how they related to each other.
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the Advanced Reader Copy. I have voluntarily left an honest review.
There is nothing I can write about a Nora Roberts book that hasn’t been said, or will be said about every book she publishes. Strong female characters, in this case a fitness guru, who is estranged from her mom. She has received strange threats for years, but they seem to be escalating......renewing a friendship with a childhood crush, adds romance, suspense and action. I held my breath through the last chapter!
Nora Robert's does not disappoint in this contemporary romance/thriller. I enjoyed the focus on fitness and health as well as focus on achieving goals using your talents. The book starts when Adrian is just 8 years old, the opening sentence "The first time Adrian Rizzo met her father, he tried to kill her." set the tone for the entire book. There is a high body count, without any gore and we race through Adrian's life, seeing her relationship with her mother and grandparents. Watching her go through school, make life long friends and progress into life on her own terms. This book is a beautiful blend of several different genres. For one it is a family saga of sorts. A beautifully crafted story of a family thrown into the limelight. Legacy is divided into three parts. One being Adrian's backstory and her growing up, which moved pretty quickly. Parts two and three provide more depth into Adrian's story as an adult and it felt like the pacing was a bit slower once the story settled into adult Adrian. There's even a look into the eyes of the crazed killer! Definitely some suspense and thrill from this story and just enough romance to keep the warm and fuzzy feelings Roberts is so good at providing!
Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown/ Piatkus for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Such a boring book title for a book that’s packed with family drama, romance, dogs, and murder! While the murder mystery creeps along through all the character and story building that make up a good 80% of the book, the last 20% is action packed! I was going to give this a solid three stars, but once the action started ramping up, I was really hooked. A great beach read for the summer!
Thank you to @Netgalley and @StMartinsPress for the advance copy. Legacy by Nora Roberts releases today!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / Legacy by Nora Roberts / Pages: 434 / Genre: Mysteries & Thrillers
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press, Netgalley and Nora Roberts for the e-ARC of Legacy!
I have been a fan of Nora Roberts ever since I read her Bridal Quartet series as a newly engaged lady back in 2014. And I look forward to each of her standalone releases each year.
I love how Nora Roberts writes strong, independent women who are still capable of asking for and receiving help. She’s a master at writing female friendships. Her heroes are always kind with an element of gentleness (even when they’re tough cowboys). And there is almost always a dog that I fall in love with. Are her books a bit formulaic at this point in the game? Yes. Do I care? Not one bit.
In Legacy our heroine is Adrian Rizzo. When Adrian was seven, she met her father for the first and last time when he tried to kill her. Adrian’s mother sent her to her grandparents’ home in Maryland for a summer of healing, before bringing her back on the road to promote her fitness brand. At 17, Adrian convinces a few friends from high school to help her launch her own fitness channel and a star is born.
As Adrian’s star continues to grow, she starts to receive death threats in the mail. As the years pass, the threats increase and Adrian begins to wonder if there is something more behind them.
Legacy is out today!
