Just finished Lrgacy by Nora roberts and enjoyed it. The main characters were interesting and the plot was easy to follow.
When she was 7 years old, Adrian Rizzo met her father and he tried to kill her. Her mother managed to push him over a railing, killing him. It was a PR nightmare for Lina Rizzo, who was building her brand as a fitness/yoga instructor, often using Adrian in her videos. Adrian's life is chronicled, as well as those of her friends. She attends a private high school and meets three other misfits and they begin to build Adrian's brand, also as a fitness/yoga instructor, but with a younger vibe than her mother's. Adrian moves to her grandfather's house after her grandmother is killed in a car crash and she begins to build a life, now being settled for the first time, since her mother was on the road so much when Adrian was growing up. Her best friend, Teesha, moves to Turkey Creek to get out of New York, but the other members of her inner circle remain in The City. Raylan, her childhood crush, returns to Turkey Creek after his wife is killed in a school shooting, choosing to raise his children near his mother. Every year, on Valentine's Day, Adrian receives a chilling poem, that seems to indicate she may be in the crosshairs of a killer. Soon, the poems begin arriving more often and Adrian's mother hires a private investigator, who is able to piece together the clues to determine who is stalking Adrian. One can always depend on Roberts to write a very readable book. Her characters all have interesting back stories and her scenery is sets the tone for the readers. This book is a little lacking in some aspects, but, as always, an enjoyable read.
I haven’t read many Nora Roberts but I thought this read was okay. The plot took a long time to build up and I thought some of it was confusing with details that didn’t matter in the long run. I was a little confused when the poems were interspersed or we would change point of views. Overall, this was a decent romantic thriller.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press & NetGalley for a copy to honestly review.
A gripping thriller from prolific, best selling author, Nora Roberts. A master storyteller, this novel is compelling, edge of your seat good. With strong female protagonists and a well developed plot, Legacy does not disappoint.
Legacy did not start how I was expecting it to and I thought, man I don’t know. But, it did not disappoint!!! I loved the friendships and connections. The characters were well thought out. I did know who the “bad guy” was but that didn’t stop me from wanting to finish. Really enjoyed Legacy.
Nora Roberts sure does know how to tell a story! The characters came alive and that includes the two dogs, Sadie and Jasper. The relationships were real, the family drama was real and the humour made me laugh out loud. I cried, laughed and smiled through the whole book. I did not want the story to end
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Gripping tale of love, family and serial murder.
Enjoyed every tense, exciting page of this masterpiece.
I liked both of the main characters Adrian and Raylan, and found them to be believable and a lot more disciplined than I ever could be.
I absolutely love Nora Roberts. I have read practically everything she has written and her books never disappoint.
Legacy is fantastic, it has everything I want in a book, it's a thriller, a mystery and a romance all rolled into one.
I highly recommend Legacy to everyone. If you like Nora Roberts books you will love it and if you have never read anything by Nora Roberts before I will guarantee you will read further books by her after this one.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for my ARC.
Nora Roberts never fails to suck me in by the first page and this is no exception. I loved this book.

Seven year old Adrian Rizza never knew her father until he shows up one day out of the blue. He also died that day. His death set off a motion of events that will stick with her.
.
Her mother Lina, creator of Baby Yoga, a billion dollar business that includes workout dvd, streaming, smoothies, apparel and shoes, decided the best course of action would be to drop her seven year old off at her parents’ house in Maryland to keep her safe and to focus on her career post the incident with Lina’s dad.
.
Luckily for Lina she had the best summer of her life with her grandparents, who I adored, met a best friend and spent her days running around the back yard, playing with her friends and having sleep overs.
.
Lina’s grandparents helped keep her grounded as she grew into a teenager. Even if her mother wasn’t present in her life she inherited her hard working nature as she found some friends at her new high school. She recruited a small group to help her film her own workout video. She wanted to create her own company called New Generation. Her company was just as successful as he mom’s but along with success came death threats.
.
The letters start coming closer together and the postmarks start moving closer to home in a fever pitch bringing a level
of anticipation that Roberts nails.
.
I love the character of Lina and her tight knit group of friends and family. Roberts has a way of connecting you to her characters and the story. If this is your first or your fiftieth of her books she never disappoints.

The past haunts a family’s future…
A traumatic encounter with young Adrian’s father sends the family into protection mode.
Seven-year-old Adrian can barely comprehend the horror of her father’s attack, and though she’s surrounded by her loving grandparents, resentment for the mother who’s never there, builds. She decides to become an independent person; one who can never be hurt.
After years of hard work, Adrian is finally on the road to success, but fears from the past sneak up when a stalker endangers everything she’s worked so hard to build.
Though the story is promoted as a suspense-thriller, other than the opening chapters, I felt this area fell flat. What I did enjoy was the family dynamics. Adrian didn’t have the love and support of her mother when she needed it the most, but there is a time of healing which redeems the book in my eyes.
I love a good family saga and can recommend this as winner on that front.
“I voluntarily read an ARC of this book which was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.”
This book was way too long. The first part took forever. This is probably my least liked book of Nora Roberts. I read everything she writes. So happy I got an ARC. I would not buy or recommend this book. Didn’t connect with the main character, Adrian. Felt she was a little preachy. Raylan reminded me of another character in an older book that did comic books or art. The villain in the story made no sense. That came out of the blue. Didn’t really connect to the rest of the story. Sorry Ms Roberts but this book was a total miss for me!
I was excited to read something by such an eminent writer, but…This was not my cup of tea. I gave it until about fifteen percent in to get better, and was disappointed. I am well aware I’m in the minority on this, but this is not a rare occurrence for me!
I liked the premise of Legacy a lot; single mother, making her own career after killing the abusive father of her daughter. She’s a fitness expert and makes videos – it had me thinking of Jane Fonda fitness videos, though I think the timing is a decade or two later, it’s a little hazy. But there began the issues for me, starting with the fact that inherent in such a career are body image and diet issues – the teenaged daughter isn’t even allowed to drink Coke. Okay. Healthy living, sure.
There were also some just…Awkward portrayals of young characters that show very dated views on modern teenagers. At one point a teenager at a gathering is disgusted that they’re listening to 80s music when they weren’t even born in the decade – and I, born in 1990, squawked in outrage (I also like 1920s swing music, sorry Nora). It just felt like a bad “hello, fellow kids” dated take on “youths today” or something.
The plot was also just…boring. The mother made a career off fitness and wellness programs, and the daughter soon tries the same – and apparently, youtubers can sell fitness routines on DVD like it’s the early ‘00s? Surprise to me! I didn’t even get to any romance, this was not my thing, unfortunately.
Nora Roberts’ novel Legacy is about a young girl’s traumatic past and how it affects her entire future. I enjoyed this novel as it was easy-to-read with likeable characters.
Adrian Rizzo’s mom is famous, single, and independent, and by choice has never told Adrian who her father is. At the age of 7, Adrian’s life is turned upside down when she witnesses her dad’s horrific death. Her mom, Lina decides that Adrian would be in a better place if she were with her adoring and supportive grandparents in Maryland, so she is dropped off for a summer visit. During this visit Adrian meets new friends not knowing that they will become her lifeline in the future. As a teen in a new school, she inserts herself into a group of “nerds” and with them and their techie skills, she creates a lucrative life for all of them. Then the terrifying rhymes start arriving in the mail from an unknown author. These letters follow Adrian throughout her life and location. Adrian finally agrees to let her mom hire a detective to determine who is sending the terrifying letters and why. The ending may be a bit predictable but nonetheless, it is still a captivating read.
I would recommend this book, especially if you enjoy those written by Nora Roberts. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC.
While romance is an integral part of this story as is love for family and friends, the driving force is suspense. A mother's success as a fitness expert has given her daughter the agility and expertise to capitalize on her skills to become famous in her own right. She creates a blog with thousands of followers. This fame results in poetic threats that arrive on a regular basis through the mail. Who is this person and why is he or she doing this? Nora Roberts has once again written a real page turner.
This is not a typical Nora Robert's book. It is a hybrid thriller/romance book and it has been really enjoyable to read.
Although the villain is fairly obvious, what I found particularly interesting was the build up. You as the reader get to experience the highs and lows of the main character.
I really enjoyed the supporting characters in this story. They really helped shape and add more depth to the story. Their engagement really helped heighten the anticipation.
Legacy follows Adrian Rizzo, a workout video entrepreneur as she creates her own brand of videos and workout clothing. She returns to her childhood escape to restart her life away from the big city. Following several tragic life vents, Adrian’s childhood crush, Raylan, returns to the same town with his kids. They start a relationship which forces Adrian to come to terms with a stalker who sends her menacing poems. Adrian hires a private detective, Rachel, to find who is sending the poems and more importantly why. Adrian’s mother, Lina, appears on a list of thirty-four women that had relationships with the stalker’s father. The stalker slowly makes his way through the list, killing several of the women before Rachel is the target herself for finding the family. The story ends with Adrian facing the stalker and Raylan saving her. This story includes a lot of small town relationships, cute pets, and an ending that is difficult to guess. Like Nora Roberts other books, Legacy includes several twists that make guessing the ending difficult.
One thing I know about Nora Roberts books... I’m gonna love the characters. Yes, maybe we’ve had a few too many “childhood trauma comes back to haunt heroine” books from her, but those heroines? Strong, amazing and relatable. The heroes? Real and solid. The plots are always so well paced to keep me turning pages. I read a lot and reading a Nora book is like putting on my most comfortable set of jammies on a Friday night. I can snuggle in and lose myself in a book.
Nora Roberts has really done it with this one. Legacy had the romance and a little thrilling mystery. I couldn’t put this down. I loved Adrian and her striking character. It’s been awhile since I read a Nora Roberts book and this one just has it all. A strong successful woman being stalked yearly with weird poems. I think this reignited my love for Nora Roberts books.
I’ve been a fan of Nora Roberts for years now so it’s not surprising I jumped at a chance to preview her new spring title. I was not disappointed. I’m not quite sure how she does it but she seems to just get better with every book. I think this might, perhaps, be her best standalone title ever. I was seriously blown away by it. It gave me all the feels and that, for me in this new pandemic driven world, is no small feat. I have been seriously depressed since 2021 started, with the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, family deaths, and life in general. I’m constantly reading but it’s like mindlessly eating popcorn. I can’t really remember anything about the book after it’s finished. That is definitely not the case with Legacy. It made me FEEL. I laughed. I cried. I felt joy and hope and the strength of family love, of the ongoing bonds of friendship, of love blossoming after loss. I felt sorrow as beloved family members and loved ones passed away, in both natural and unnatural ways.
The book spans years and, through those years, relationships of many kinds are built, refined, changed. We come to know the characters in this story thoroughly and deeply. They became real to me and I think that’s one of the greatest gifts a writer can bestow and give to a reader - characters that you want to know and spend time with in real life, places that you want to visit and inhabit. I want to go to Travelers Creek and eat at Rizzo’s. I want to wander the streets and wave to the people I know through this book. I want to read Raylan’s graphic novels (and I’m not a graphic novel type of girl) and listen to the songs Monroe has written. I want to cuddle the many babies who have been born along the way. It was a book I didn’t want to end, which is the best type of book that there is. I have to give this one my highest recommendation. These characters, this story, will remain with me. It will be one I pull out to read again when I need a lift, a visit with old and dear friends. Thanks for a great read, Nora. You rock.
I have read many of Nora Roberts books, but this was not one of my favorites. I had a hard time relating to Adrian. The second half of the book was more enjoyable, but it was still fairly simple to deduce who was sending her the threatening letters.
