This is the first Nora Roberts book I have ever read so I didn't necessarily know what I was getting in to. I did not enjoy this book. The first 3 chapters were great and then the middle just dragged on and on with so many unnecessary details and meaningless scenes of things that weren't important. The only real action of the book took place in the last 20 pages? I also hated the portions talking about Raylan and his comics, it took up space in a book that was already too long. This was just not for me, I only finished the book to provide a full review.

I have always loved reading Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb books. Legacy, written under Nora Roberts was another winner. I think the writing was more in JD Robb format, short sentences at times in the dialogue, but it worked with the characters. There were a number of stories within the story and they were all good. The characters were extremely likable, the villain may have been a bit rote, but again it did not detract from the overall storyline.

Nora Roberts can write. That said this was a good novel, it had everything strong women, romance, mystery, thriller. I can't seem to get enough of her books

Legacy by Nora Roberts I believe is the best one yet! It will be a book I will reread again and again. Romance, suspense, and danger keep you reading and even wanting more by the end. I highly recommend to any and everyone who loves Nora Roberts or has never read her before.

Joy, tears, terror! Legacy has it all and I LOVED it.

I love wrapping myself up in the friendships in any Nora Roberts's book and Legacy brings that depth and warmth in spades! Adrian is a strong, independent woman; she could manage anything alone but adversity is more easily face with the support of friends and that cycle of support brings a beautiful reality to the novel.

One of the parts I loved was when Raylan's later conversations with Lorelei; the beauty of true love shone through. The other side of that coin was when we could see into the flat and soulless mind of the serial killer. The emptiness contrasting with the warmth Adrian and her friends shared created a starkness that built throughout that part of the books.

Thank you to St. Martin for the galley.

This galley has been on the site for a while, and to be honest, I had no intention of requesting it. I quit reading Nora Roberts mysteries decades ago because they just were so far-fetched. They tended to have someone in the grip of a mental illness that goes on a killing spree. That's it. That is the plot and has been the plot in these books for as long as I can remember.

But I regress. I wasn't planning on reading this but received an e-mail with a read-it-now notification. Low on books to read, I thought "why not?" And it only took about 1/2 of the book to realize "why bother." Same old, same old.

Fairly or not, it bothered me to have a school shooting in the book. I've read other books about school shootings but in those books, it was not a throw-away point. It impacted the character and was incorporated into the storyline. Maybe in this book, it is explored more fully in the last half I didn't read.

Reading to the point where the main character is moving home to stay with her grandfather after her grandmother's death, there weren't any strong relationships that pulled me into the story. I barely knew the main character. Yes, she had one childhood friend. Yes, she made friends with the nerds in High School. Yes, she spent a summer with her grandmother and grandfather and loved them dearly. That is pretty much the relationship development unless you want to talk about the non-relationship with her mother.

Name recognition counts a lot. I've read many great books by authors that probably only sell one-tenth of the books that Nora Roberts sells in this one category. Sales don't equate to good story telling especially when the plot is recycled.

As most of the story is more about family and friendship than it is a suspenseful thriller, this book will appeal to Nora's contemporary romance fans as well as romantic suspense readers. Lots of cute moments and emotional moments, and a large cast of intriguing characters. I read this in one sitting.

It's fascinating to see how much a Nora Roberts book differs from the modern trend in romance. The love story isn't always central to this book, for one thing. There's mostly external conflict and everyone is unusually good at articulating their feelings, even the children. There are multiple POVs but characterization isn't very deep for anyone. There are a lot of scenes that feel like filler (I skimmed more than one description of errands or chores). Yet this book is comfortable to read. The good guys are very well intentioned and kind to each other. The bad guys are crazy. It's a simple world that Roberts creates and of course we crave it. I haven't read many Nora Roberts books so I can only assume that's her trademark and that this is a good entry to that collection.

Adrian Rizzo has lived quite the life. When she was a young girl, her birth father tried to kill her. Fortunately her mother was there to save her. However, her mother was not much of the mothering type and either left her with a nanny or at her grandparents house, which she LOVED!
When she grew up, she somehow became a fitness queen, like her mother, but with her own spin. Then the threats via mail began.

Raylan grew up in the hometown that Adrien's grandparent's lived. He dreamed of be a cartoonist and living in NYC. All his dreams are coming true when a horrible tragedy blindsides him. He decides to move back to his hometown to regroup and recover.

Adrian and Raylan know each other due to connections of family and friends. What starts out as a simple friendship starts to blossom to more. Meanwhile the death threat mailings have increased.

will these two be brave enough to take that leap needed towards a relationship? Will the authorities find who is sending out these death threats before it's too late? This book can be a nail biter, at times. Can make you laugh at precocious children and be charmed a simple town living.

thank you to Net Galley for the advanced copy.

I'm a big fan of Nora Roberts so I was very excited for the chance to read "Legacy". At a young age, Adrian Rizzo's life is marred by violence and death. To help her heal and avoid the media attention, Adrian goes to her grandparents' home. With them, she finds security, friends, and a loving atmosphere. When she starts receiving disturbing poems once a year, she doesn't let that stop her. She has started a business and refuses to let some nut job dictate her behavior. After the deaths of two people very close to her, she moves back to live in Traveler's Creek and establish herself as a fitness/nutrition coach. She finds love and family to help deal with the threats to her life. Good characters, good story - I didn't guess who was threatening her until it was revealed. I liked it (no surprise)!

Thanks to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for giving me an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

What a good read! I loved this book - the author built a rich and detailed world with engaging characters. Her dialogue rang true and the story’s pacing was perfect. I recommend the book for mature teens and up, only caveat is that the book contains physical violence and lightly written romantic scenes.

I’m not a fan of reviews that regurgitate what you can obtain better from the author’s blurb, and I don’t like reviews with spoilers; you won’t get either here. I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Legacy is another fun read from Nora Roberts. The emotional connection throughout the story is so strong. As always I got invested in the characters felt along with them as they experienced love, loss, and fear. The mystery was light and not super surprising but overall the read was good. I always love the depth and complexity of the characters and the world building that Nora Roberts is so great at.

Oh, oh wow! What a crazy amazing rollercoaster!
I swear Nora Roberts gift of writing is truly special. I loved this story and all the characters.
I loved seeing Adrian Rizzo grow and thrive in all the chapters. Seeing her as a child and grow into a beautiful young lady was great and that's not a easy feat. Her connection with Raylan and their friendship always have me the happy feels. Nora Roberts is the only writer I cry with. When I got to the certain parts that just wrecked me, I just cried and cried. My poor husband had no idea what was happening 🤣. Anyway with a wonderful collection of characters like Teesha and Monroe and all the Scooby gang I enjoyed this tale so much! I didn't know how Nora was going to add the villian but once again she knocked it out of the park! Well done! I can't wait to reread this when it comes out for release!

I received this book to read/review free. I have been an avid reader of Nora Roberts years ago but had not in quite a while. That said, I enjoyed this book. What I always found with Nora Roberts is she makes you feel for the characters making you laugh, smile, and other emotions which touch your heart. Overall, it was a good book and worth the read. I would recommend it. Here are my pro and cons:
Pros: The story caught my attention right away with the first line “The first time Adrian Rizzo met her father, he tried to kill her.” The story kept me entertained.
Cons: While the book continues with a good flow, I did have an issue with when pov switch. It could be part of the editing, but it caused some slight confusion. There were a few parts that lulled in the middle of the book. I did only give it 4 instead of a 5 because once everything fell into the place, I felt the ending could have a little more wrap-up in conclusion.

Trigger warnings for this book: domestic violence, drug/alcohol abuse, and a school shooting.

I’ve always loved Nora Roberts and this one did not disappoint! It features a multitude of characters from various POVs. It was a little slow in the beginning but definitely picked up! IMO, it’s more thriller than romance, but there is a HEA. The characters are mostly likable, while some will make you go “What the Hell?!?”. My favorite characters are the dogs and how they saved the day.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC!

Thanks to NetGalley I received an eARC of Legacy. Nora Roberts is always one of my favorite guilty pleasure reads. I really enjoy her standalone books. Legacy was no different. I enjoyed how the story line was built around the mother/daughter fitness aspect as that seems very on par with today's society. The characters were built up well and I found myself enjoying each of them. Overall it was a good story and I enjoyed reading!

I feel like Nora Robert's is always reliable, no matter what book of hers that I pick up, I can usually be sure that I will enjoy it.

Legacy, while I did enjoy it for what it was, did not turn out to be what I thought it was going to be. I think labeling it as a "thriller" or a "romance" is a bit of a stretch. It contains a romance, sure, but not until the last third of the book. It also contains aspects of a thriller. However, this book was ultimately the story of a family. It was the story of Adrian growing up with a mother who wasn't all that motherly, and all the people that filled in the gaps.

The mystery was secondary, and didn't even start to pick up until the second half of the book.

It did enjoy it, it was a heartwarming story, just not what I was expecting based on the description

This is really a story of two tales.

The first is of a young 7 year of girl who meets her father for the first time, and after surviving the assault on herself, her mom and her nanny. It tells of the time she enjoyed recovering at her grandparents in the country.

The second story is of a young woman who is starting to embrace her independence, and trying to start her own business to rival her very successful mother.

Pro’s:

This is a well written story with developed characters and a solid plotline

Con’s:

There was way too much gratuitous profanity interspersed throughout the story ending with a laced filled rant towards the end.

The story would have been just as good without half of it.

Some of what was in the rant was to be expected. Just not the amount that was used.

I would like to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to read this story in advance of its release.

I have always loved Nora Roberts and this book reminded me why! Let’s start at the beginning though... she caught my attention right off and that’s very important to me. Adrian is easy to like and you feel for her from the start. My only complaint is the years of skipping forward in the book but I can understand why, we had to get to traveler’s creek! The relationship with Rylan was a beautiful slow burn and the fact that they grow together is just the cherry on top! This book has it all, love, intrigue, scandal, mystery and a happy ending!!
