This boxset contains 5 books and they were all fairytales...

The three books, Wolves and Roses, Moonlight and Midnight, Shifters and Glyphs, was starring Bryar Rose as the main character. This girl got a similar destiny like Sleeping Beauty, except, she need to fight an evil zombies instead of her stepmother queen. Her bestfriend, Elle Cynder have the life of Cinderella (but never called her Cinderella because she hated it!)

Mostly, this book told us about Bryar's journey to find her own power. Oh yes, since this got fairytale vibes, there were also powers they possessed. Except for Bryary herself..

For the fourth and fifth books, it was told by Elle's POV.

Over all, I do love how the plot went. And don't forget about the romance! Tho this is a twisted fairytales mixed with modern worlds, but the romance were still like fairytales vibes. It has classic-love (like love at first sight) and I do LOVE that! Christina is an amazing writer when she wrote this book and got those plot lines!!

There are some good points to this series and some bad points. The good points is that I liked the characters and how they were from popular faiytales with new plots. I liked the storylines and I found the storyline gripping and read each book quickly.
However, the writing style takes a lot of getting used too and there are so many mistakes in the book that it is hard to imagine that this book was ever properly edited. Unfortunately this really distracted from the story and the quality of the book so it ruined the experience, without these mentioned issues I would have been scoring this set higher.

I read the first three books previously, so I just picked up on books 4 and 5 for this compilation. I will be referencing my reviews for the first three books here.

-Wolves and Roses, had a really strong start and I quickly fell in love with the characters and the world. Bryar and Knox had a lot of chemistry and while things moved fast, it still felt believable. Especially when you take into account that this is based on fairytales when falling in love "at first sight" is common. This book was a great opening to the world.

-Moonlight and Midnight, that book was really short and should have just been part of the first book, or the third. When I first read this, it was just a novella and marked as book 1.5, so I don't have a lot of opinions on this book other than it should have either been longer or just part of the previous book.

-Shifters and Glyphs, I liked this one as well. It was a lot of fun. The plot was more concise and straightforward, which I liked. Having multiple plot points doesn't always make a book better, and this one with a more "simple" plot left room for character development. I wish Elle had gotten some more page time in this book, especially since in the next couple of books she's the central character. It could have been a nice teaser.

-Slippers And Thieves, This is the first time Elle gets to have the spotlight in this series. At this point, there was quite a gap between reading books in this series, so I forgot any information previously given about her character, or if there was any given.
I liked Elle and Alec as characters, I liked that they were willing to give up things they wanted to keep others safe.
That being said, the tone was a little all over the place at times. The book is YA, but the characters are 18 and are both in school and running corporations. It almost seems like the book doesn't know what genre it wants to be. Though, this would be a good introduction to some older themes of YA without being graphic in terms of violence and intimate content.

-Bandits And Ball Gowns, this is when I started to really notice that these books flow weird. Not enough really happens between book 4 and this book (5) for them to be separate books. There's a lot of repeated information, just pages a part that could be cut that could make them one book. The reactions of the characters don't always suit the stakes that are established. We're often told that something is dire or urgent, but the characters don't behave as if they are. For example, a character who Elle cares about goes missing and is perceived dead, and we're told that she cares and is worried about them. But she spends her days doing a lot of nothing to solve the problem or find out if they are actually alive.

I hope the series becomes more clear and concise in the rest of the series. I do like these characters.

While this was an interesting plot, and it was awesome to get so many books at once, it was hard to enjoy it. With some work, I think it would be a lot easier to get into it. The writing style was distracting, and it could’ve used another round or two of editing.

Read this as part of the Magicorum #1-#5 collection, which I received by the publisher through NetGalley for review purposes.

I have to admit that I read all 5 books in one weekend, so obviously the series got me hooked to the point that I didn't want to put it down.
I really enjoyed the plot of the first 3 books a lot. The 4th one I didn't like very much. The writing style was so different: choppy, disjointed, yet repetitive for the first part, and moving way too fast, while spending time on uninteresting events, and glossing over parts that would have made a great story. For example, events in Egypt are barely mentioned in passing, but are referred to in other books of the series. If something is important enough to be mentioned several times in other parts of the series, then it should be important enough to actually be in the series.

But what bothers me so much, that I take 2 stars right off the top, is the lack of editing. I am shocked that these books even made it to the publishing stage, because of the massive amount of typos, plot errors, surplus or missing words, and wrong names used.
I lost count, but I submitted easily a dozen mistakes per book. It is annoying, and irritating. Do neither the author, nor the publisher care enough to do even a simple proofreading? Many of these would have been caught by a simple spell check....

This box set of the Fairytales of the Magicorum includes the first 5 books in this series. The first 3 books feature Bryar Rose as main character, while the last 2 books in this box set feature Elle Cynder as main character. Both of these girls are magicorum, with a secret. Their magic is hidden because of a curse, set to protect them.

In this series, most magicorum have a fairy tale life template. It is like a destiny they already have written for them, and if they don’t follow their life templates they might lose their magic. In this book the main characters have templates like Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Prince charming and the beast. In addition the series also features magic wardens, protectors of the three types of magic, and in order to keep this they will have to find the fountain.

The first book called Wolves and Roses starts off really nice. This is my favorite part in this whole series. In this part you will get to know Bryar, Elle, Alec and Knox as well as their magic powers. In this part Bryar will have to furfill her fairytale life template, while fighting the Denarii, evil mummy zombies. Will she furfill her purpose? And what kind of magic does she have?

In the second book called Moonlight and Midtown the 4 characters prepare for a year of school, while Bryar must figure out her magic. The third book called Shifters and Glyphs takes you to school as well as on a search for the fountain. The fourth and fifth book, Slippers and Thieves and Apples and Arsenic are told from Elle’s point of view. They take place during the first 3 books as well als after them.

In this serie you will get to know the main characters really well. Every one of them is worked out really well, and I really fell in love with some of the characters. My favorite character in this series might be Knox wolf, because of his great sense of humor.

The story is well written during the first three parts, however I felt like the last 2 books of this bookset were less good. They seem to lack a bit of information, and the pace of the story is really quick making the changing timelines difficult to follow.

Christina Bauer has managed to write a really nice series with a great worldbuilding. However I feel like this box set would have been better of as a 3 book box set and a 2 book box set, because of the changing of POV’s. In addition I would have loved to see an universal lay-out during the boxset, in stead of changing lay-outs during the books. All of the books contain some typos, however they are not so big that they bother the reading experience.

All in all, I really enjoyed this series. I did love the first 3 parts better than the last 2, but all of the books were really nice to read. This boxset could use some editing work, however this is not something that will effect my star rating. Every one of the books I rate between the 3 and 4 stars, which results in an overall 3,5 star rating for this box set.

Magicorum Box Set contains the first novels of the Magicorum series by Christina Bauer. The original books included were released from 2017-2021, this reformat and re-release 4th Nov 2021 is 1,220 pages and is available in ebook format.

These are well written and engaging action driven YA/NA paranormal romance novels. The narrative is written in dual first person alternating chapters between two of the main characters Knox (a shifter and alpha) and Bryar Rose (female protagonist and general snarky badass 18 year old) for the first three books. The second three are written around Bryar's best friend Elle (don't call her Cinderella) and Alec, her maybe/maybe not Prince Charming.

The books are full of fractured fairy tale archetypes and riffs on classic fairy tales. The happily-ever-afters are not easy to attain and there's a metric ton of crisis and drama and tortured teenage angst and longing between the start and finish.

I'm about 4 decades outside the target audience (older teens and YA), but I am confident that they'll be gobbled up by the readers for whom they're intended. There is a little bit of rough language, but nothing which would raise an eyebrow in the average school hallway. There is also a fair bit of nudity, since lead love-interest Knox is a shifter and they do a lot of clothes shredding, so there's some discussion of his "junk".

The dialogue is sometimes eye-wateringly sarcastic, but again, for readers in the target audience, that will likely be a plus and not at all negative. This would be a good series to binge, since book 8 has just dropped. For fans of Twilight, Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles, and similar, these books will fit the bill.

Four stars for this collection. The individual books for me range in the three and a half to four star range. Likely higher for the target audience.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

This series is one of the best fairytale retellings I have read. It keeps the basic elements of the stories but gives them a whole new life. The characters are unique and have their own personalities which aren’t necessarily the same or similar to the original tales but still work with the story.
All the characters who are fairies, wizards, werewolves or a human relation of one, are part of the magicorum and have a fairytale life template. For example:
Bryar, who has a sleeping beauty life template, is strong and independent. The sleeping curse on her is not putting her to sleep for 100 years but is still very important to her story in a slightly different way. The fairies looking after her are not the same either, but they make the story far more interesting.
Elle, has a cinderella life template, she is a jewel thief partially in order to survive without help from her evil step-family.
Each of the characters are well developed throughout the series and have a realistic, as well as entertaining, story arc.
I would highly recommend this series for anyone from age 13 and up. Anyone who likes fairytale retellings is bound to enjoy this story.

Perfect way to have more than one read at your fingertips. The best way to jump start the series with three under your belt. Would love to purchase and share with friends and family as an introduction to a new author or new series or both.

I rated it so high because of the ease of having multiple books in one series at hand.
