This is a great domestic thriller
It is full of suspense and many twists
The plot is so good with great characters
The ending was such a shock
Its hard to keep me guessing the whole time because I read thrillers RELIGIOUSLY and I thought this book was going to be just another domestic thriller but I was on the edge of my seat the entire time
This reminded me a bit of K L Slater’s work. Family drama melds with a mystery to create a twisted plot which spans years of secrets and deceit. I think the author did a really good job of closely revealing the various twists and turns and felt genuine tension over past secrets coming back to haunt them.
Great plot to get yourself lost in. This book has everything. A real fast paced thriller. Will get your heart racing on more than one occasion. Very well written. Highly recommend this book
Omg omg omg .......... this book was amazing I could not put it down I read every word on the edge of my seat I loved the story line, i loved the way the story just kept us guessing all the way threw I loved all the twists and turns and would defiantly recommend this book it was so believable and kept the reader engaged I love it
A fantastic read, full of suspense! This story has all the things you want in a thriller - lies, twists, blackmail, long buried secrets... the list goes on! The characters were all really well developed and I loved the the way it looked at the mother/daughter relationship dynamic through different generations.
Liane Moriarty was mentioned in the blurb which was one thing that attracted me to the book and I definitely think if you enjoy her books, or are a thriller fan in general, you will love this one.
A story about mothers and daughters. I was captivated by the first chapter in this book and it didnt disappoint. A book about secrets, they all come out eventually. Lots of drama involved , emotions evoked. I really liked this book.
This is a great read and a well detailed plot that kept me engaged from the very start.
I really liked the well thought out characters and found them to be believable. I cannot wait to read what the author brings out next.
My first, but definitely not my last book by Speechley. I was completely hooked until the end!! A must read!
All mothers have secrets...some are unforgivable
Kate Marshall lives an enviable life. Married to handsome, charming, James, owner of a successful company, she seems to have it all.
But falling pregnant at 45 was never part of the plan. Especially as Kate’s hiding a devastating secret – one that she’s been running from for twenty years.
So when ex-boyfriend Paul comes back into her life, threatening to expose the truth about what Kate did, the clock is ticking. Can she keep her secrets and finally be the mother she always dreamed of – or will her past lies destroy her perfect life?
An unputdownable, complex and twisty psychological thriller about mothers and daughters – fans of Shalini Boland, Liane Moriarty and Jane Shemilt will love this gripping read.
Fantastic book, I cannot fault Ruby at the minute as everything she seems to be putting out is amazing! Really loved this one and think it’s my current favourite of her books, finished it in one sitting and didn’t pause for breath! Brilliant 👌🏼
This story is told by Kate’s point of view and her estranged mother Elizabeth who has got plenty of secrets of her own.
Kate is happily married and at 45 she is pregnant it’s not what she wanted.
Kate is keeping secrets herself .
When Katie’s ex-boyfriend comes back into her life he threatens to expose the truth
The ending is not what you expect.
Good read
Thanks NetGalley

Big thank you to NetGalley, Hera Books and the author Ruby Speechley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review
Kate and James are happily married. They have a successful business that allows them to travel, to do the things they love to do.
Finding out at age 45 that she's pregnant is not something she could have foreseen. Before they were married, they both decided that they would have no children.
She can't keep this a secret for long. She's been hiding a secret from 10 years ago and the past is catching up to the present. An ex comes out of the woodwork, threatening to reveal her secret if she doesn't pay him a lot of money.
Kate is not the only one with a secret .... James is also hiding something.
Will their lies and secrets destroy their perfect life?
Twists and turns abound in this novel about relationships, marriage, motherhood, pregnancy, and many lies and secrets. The plot is tightly woven with solid characters weaving through a perfect life that isn't so perfect. It's complex and holds the reader's attention from start to finish. The surprising ending was the icing on the cake.
Many thanks to the author / Hera Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological drama. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
This isn't exactly a thriller, more of a family drama with secrets galore. And you have to keep reading to find out all the answers. Great book . I recommend it
Kate had a wonderful life with husband James, but found herself pregnant and they had no space for a baby, so they thought. At the same time, her ex started blackmailing her. And then came the threatening messages. Her relationship with her mother was not too great. Life was a minefield for Kate.
Initially the book appeared to be a thriller as there were quite a few twists. Author Ruby Speechley managed to capture the right ambiance in the book. I could sympathize with Kate as she found hurdles everywhere. I liked her dedication to keeping the baby.
As the book progressed, it slowly transformed into family secrets and drama. It was multi generational where I got to know the ladies. My emotions seesawed between empathy and anger. I liked how the author could draw out my emotions.
The reveals in the book had a lot of pathos. The suspenseful story soon brought out the truths hidden in the past which was actually based on society’s reality in the 1950s.
Overall, the book managed to surprise me, pitching me from stormy seas of a thriller to the placid waters of family saga, where I knew there were secrets swimming at its depths.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hera books for providing this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Kate is a successful happily married business woman. At 45, she and her husband are quite content with their child free lifestyle so it is a big shock when she finds out she is pregnant. On top of that, she is hiding a secret from everyone and has recently started being blackmailed for it.
I really enjoyed this novel. There were a lot of secrets kept by a lot of people on this book, and the gradual revealing of the secrets kept me engaged in the story. I was rapidly turning the pages to find out the next secret that would come to light. This is the second book I have from this author and I look forward to reading more.
Thanks to Netgalley for this book. It was an ok read. It started well but then the story began to drag & the plot became nore unbelievable. I was very disappointed with the ending also as I felt it let the book down.
This is a fascinating take on motherhood and the ramifications of choices made down through the generations. Each of the main characters has a BIG secret that they have not yet disclosed to one another. Although they have a happy marriage, it is one which is planned strictly with no room for error. That is until Kate becomes pregnant at age 45 which throws everyone into a tailspin. A really tightly written and tense read!
I really wanted to finish this and to enjoy it but I found it repetitive and ultimately had to DNF. I made it about 50% in and found myself quite bored with the storyline. I don’t know if it’s because I feel like it’s something I read or what but I couldn’t stay in the story.
