This story was a combination of a modern day Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" combined with a bit of BDSM.
When Hunter Finn gets a phone call from Roxy Cavanaugh three months after she walked out, needing his help; he can't say no. He takes the train back to Manhattan, to the city he walked away from so long ago to make Roxy submissive and put her in her place.
Only this time, he has to guard his heart so it doesn't hurt when he leaves again.
A sexy, must read!
3.5 stars.
The read was very quick, but very good. Because the characters were so nicely written and their chemistry was almost like one could feel it. The sexual scenes were hot, but it was also a story around it.
I didn't know that a modern day BDSM retelling of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" was something I needed, but I don't regret it.
Hunter is a Dom and Roxy is a theater actress in the search of her inner innocence for playing the part of Hero in a production of "Much Ado...". So, she reaches for his help in being more submissive. And the things get steamy, really steamy.
This is a short story, but the development is well done, even though the beginning felt a little too slow for me. I wasn't really interested in the story until about halfway through, which for a novella is kind of a lot.
The characters weren't precisely likeable, but that's OK, because I liked their relationship anyway, and their friends where cool.
Overall, a nice, short read, with some Shakespeare and much sex.
3.5 Stars - Raunchy, eloquent and heartfelt
I'm a complete newbie to this genre, so my review may be mishandled. However, I enjoyed this tale about the electrifying sexual tension between Roxy and Hunter, both highly refined and wealthy, but very guarded and calculating. Their BDSM journey allows them to unfold their deepest intimacies, and soften to each other. It's the unexpected love story of two love-hungry elites.
I'm not sure what I was to expect, so my overall rating is that it was good. The BDSM scenes were great, they seemed to be the most fleshed-out (no pun intended haha). I think the parts I felt could have used some more depth to get to the ending - was to have more of Roxy's backstory, or more tender casual moments between Roxy and Hunter to really develop their relationship. I think the drama with Jules felt a bit forced or cliché, as did the best friend characters, so these areas could use some work. The ending also felt a bit rushed. Overall, not a bad read.
Roxy needs Hunter’s help hand he can’t see to say no to her. The only time it seems Hunter is in control is when they are in the bedroom. Fast-paced read with loads of drama and steam. The characters are really hard to like, and the read needed a smoother flow. Okay read for me.
I received this book via NetGalley and have agreed to leave an honest opinion.
I had a really hard time really liking this book.
Roxy is a selfish young lady who wants to be a star and she needs Hunter, the man she left, to help her. Hunter says yes but is worried about his feelings for her. He should be angry but he is more worried about love. A little BDSM is the only way he can have any control.....
Hunter Pains was good but just shy of great. Hunter and Roxy have a tumultuous relationship with a pretty racy past that forms the premise of the story. The chemistry was sizzling hot throughout the book with BDSM scenes that complimented their romance. I appreciated the raw vulnerability of certain scenes, where they both bared their insecurities or showcased a different side of their personalities.
My peeve with Hunter Pains is definitely how unfinished the overall book felt. They were some key pivotal moments that could have been embellished more and several scenes felt incomplete. I wanted more character development, especially from Roxy who I had trouble connecting with.
Sex is an excellent supporting theme for a book but should not represent its entirety. Hunter Pains needed more structure and balance between the sex and romance with more backstory of the main characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and Rebecca Grace Allen for providing me with an arc in exchange for my honest review.
I received a complimentary copy of Hunter Pains in exchange for an honest review. I'm struggling to write a review on this one. There was nothing that stood out as good or bad, and I even had to review the book to recall what the storyline was. Roxy was not my favorite character, and it felt like she was using Hunter for her personal gains at his expense. Hunter didn't seem to mind though. They worked through some scenes, and got their happily ever after. I'd probably pass on this one for something a little more memorable.
I was kindly accepted for an advanced copy of this book on Netgalley for an honest review.
Hunter and Roxy have a complicated past. He thought he was in love with her, and she left him. Months later, he receives an call from her asking him to help train her for an acting role. This requires Hunter to return to NYC, where he left after a scandal broke out about his sexual lifestyle. Roxy doesn't care about that he just needs Hunter to help train her in the bedroom so the skills can apply to the stage. Roxy is a hard character to like so it made liking the book difficult.
This was a short novella. I liked the characters and their interactions with each other. I also liked the premise of the story, however, I wanted more from the story, not enough character development and background information.
This book was just okay for me. It was hard for me to complete this book because I just didn't like the characters or the writing style.
This book is full of angst and steamy play!! Highly enjoyed this read and highly recommend it. Enjoyed this book and the interactions between the characters.
I did not like it. it starts abruptly, with no introduction to the characters, sometimes that works, this book did not work. the guy is disrespectful and irritating and the girl not likable either. it's not a good book.
A very clever story. A mix of acting scenes, bdsm, mutual insecurities, love and romance. Lessons and scenarios that give insight and perspective, all wrapped up in this romantic story.
With a happy ever after ending, in this romance of deep love, attraction, commitment, leading to everlasting happiness.
