Sadly this book just didn’t grab as much as I hoped it would. I put it down and picked it up multiple times but I just couldn’t connect with it. Super bummed.
Love Valerie Bowman and really enjoyed this next in the series. Thank you for the opportunity to read it early
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. Wow absolutely hated this book. The main female character is just an awful awful person. She is so judgemental! The author repeats herself over and over. Yeah we get it she is a feminist. The main female always is talking about her pot belly and how fat she is and also about her hobbit feet? She is rude to people. She loves everything to do with Jane Austen period but she pretty much says everyone was racist back then and talks about how there were not female rights back then. (Eye roll) I think the male romance character is better off without her and he should run run run far away from her. Everything the men would say in the book the female character and her feminist friend (what the book says) find fault in everything they say and talk about how much they hate me doing things for them. Just a bunch of feminist man hating woke book.
Ehhh… this was just so so. Nothing really caught my interest. I never really found myself connecting to Meg- which is strange because we share a name and a lot of similar characteristics. I wanted to like her and the story, but I just never really did. I finished it, but had to make myself.
Hiring Mr. Darcy has to be one of the cutest rom-com books I've read. I was put in mind of a quirky movie called Austenland, an immersion Jane Austen theme park. The Austen renascence fair & competition, in Bath no less, is a wonderful backdrop for a love story. Having the female lead turn a regular Joe into Mr. Darcy is a concept that works very well and the HEA is a big bonus.
A pure delight! Light, cute, quirky, funny. It's the perfect book to read curled up in your favourite chair! Love, love, love! Thank you, Ms. Valerie Bowman, for an amazingly delightful tale. I absolutely loved it! I laughed out loud! I read this in one sitting -- it was that good!! Do yourself a favor and one-click, it will be a favourite! Happy reading everyone
Nope nope nope. I started the book and was hit in the face with "not like other girls" and decided to just quit. No thanks. Such a promising premise though!
A fun contemporary romantic comedy that fans of Jane Austen will adore. I enjoyed the characters, the play on Austen and the setting.
One of my favorite books is Pride & Prejudice. It's one of those books I read every year, so when I saw this book show up on my request list, I sure did hit that request button quickly!
While I liked the book, once again, there were a lot of things I found lacking with it.
It was quick and easy read, but I felt like it could have used a little more....something.
I do wish that there was some more character growth in this book but she was so judgmental, I think it would've been outside the realm of believability that she would change so much.
Thank NetGalley and the publisher for the book! Overall it was a fun and a nice read. Books Jane Austen related are always a good idea! New author that I’ll be following now!
This is a story of Meg who is a Jane Austin fanatic or more appropriately teaches her to her students and wanted to took part in a Jane Austin festival with her Boyfriend. But he dumped her as a partner for a younger starlet so out of frustration she decided to hire his replacement.
Here comes the dreamy Jeremy who made him feel all wooed and important.
This is a contemporary romance novel and made me laugh at several scenes which is really rare ,I mean RARE .....
This is a light read where one knows where the story is going .
I heard people having mixed reviews about it but I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
It was light and easy going read with real feeling not morally high feelings and I think every once in a while everyone is entitled to feel like this...
Found it hard to get into this book as the heroine proved unlikeable and so immature right from the get-go. For a 30-something professor, she acted like a 16-yr-old who doesn't know any better from life. Just could not connect and then enjoy the ride
I adored this book right from the first page. Being a Jane Austen fan, the idea of a Jane Austen competition sounds absolutely amazing and fun to me. The fact that Meg had to hire someone to play her Mr. Darcy was a fantastic plot of this story and added an even more fun element to it. I loved this book and couldn't finish it fast enough.
I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review*
Received a copy of this book for review. Overall it is a good read for me. Love the chemistry between the main characters. Love all the characters. What I love is that each of them does make a difference to the story as it developed. Like to read how the characters In the story are interrelated to each other. It make the story more exciting to read. The setting of the story is nice and is fit nicely to the story.Story plot are well penned out, with a slight twist to it in the end
This is a super fun read. I really enjoyed this one!
Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
Meg Knightley was pushed over by a Hollywood star to be the Lizzy Bennet partner of her boyfriend/colleague professor Dr Harrison Macomb. They were suppose to attend a Jane Austin Festival and compete with others as a couple. Thus, Meg needed to hire a new partner. She hired and instructed Jeremy to be her new Mr. Darcy. The story pretty much started from here.
This is an enjoyable read. From start to finish I was fully engrossed in the story. This was a funny , romantic and modern love story with references to Lizzy Bennet and Mr Darcy. Also appreciated the few moral lessons in the story and the promise of destined (long-awaited) true love.
I was given an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This checked off everything I look for in a book. Was not disappointed. Really enjoyed this book. I will read more from this author.
Release Date: September 25, 2020
Dr Meg Knightly is going to the Austen festival with her boyfriend...until he dumps her and leaves her without a proper gentlemen escort. Enter Jeremy, her brothers friend. Jeremy can play a proper gent so Meg doesn’t have to go to England alone. When Austen is in the air, romance is sure to follow.
I enjoyed this book. The characters were interesting and anytime there’s Austen I’m 100% in. This book was good but not great. I would have liked this book to have a bit more steam in it than it did.

LOVE! I absolutely loved this book. It has everything I love in a romance novel or any novel in general - old friends, competition, a normal looking main character and Jane Austen.
Meg and Harrison are perfect on paper and checklists, but when he decides to do a Jane Austen competition with a famous actress instead, Meg decides to find someone else. Enter Jeremy, a Mr Darcy look a like who also has an amazing heart.
I loved watching the characters grow and learn more about each other, and I loved the entire Austen competition in England. I highly recommend this book.
I loved reading about Jemery and Meg. It was a heartwarming, enjoyable, sweet read. It was wonderful written. It has a good storyline. It's easy to read. I was hooked from the first page.
I read and and reviewed an Advanced Copy of this book All thoughts and opinions are of my own.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this story.
