I just realized that I read this story before it come out in 2020 and never completed my review.
But I feel that I need to do a reread of this story to do this review justice. I plan to reread this series and will update my review as I go.
I do know that I enjoyed this story very much. I love both Kendra Elliott and Melinda Leigh and the world that these two have created. I am looking forward to jumping back into this story and rereading it.
Thrilling add to the Widows Island series. Just love these characters. Kendra and Melinda work so well together you almost can’t tell you’re reading two different authors
I’ve read all of Melinda’s books to date and loved them and I love the novellas she co-writes with Kendra Elliot they make a great combination.
A Broken Bone is #6 in the widows island series.
Following the death of a teenager and an explosion which leads to the discovery of a teenagers body who has been missing from his foster home for a few weeks Tessa and her partner park ranger Logan are on the hint for the killer before another young life is cut short. They have their work cut out though because Widows Island is full of dark secrets and time is running out.
I absolutely love these novellas they are gritty and dark and keep me guessing the whole way through and I hope there will be many more series to come !!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Montlake and Melinda Leigh for the ARC of A Broken Bone my review is honest and unbiased.
Melinda Leigh is a talented author with a gift of story telling in this short novella series. Each story builds on the next so if you missed one in the series you will be completely lost.
The story is quick pace and a whirlwind story that readers will be able to enjoy in a afternoon.
The characters will come to life and readers will fall in love with each one. Even the island plays a character in the books.
Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy of Melinda Leigh A Broken Bone.
Back to back Window's Island!
Deputy Tessa Black and her partner Logan Wilde are back! Responding to a call about an explosion, Tessa gets more than she bargained for when the body of a missing teen is found at the scene. With few clues, she sets out to discover who could have wanted him dead.
Fabulous!
Loved the mystery, relationships and romance in this thrilling novella. Deputy Tessa Black and Ranger Logan Wilde respond to a call about an explosion but end up discovering the body of a missing teen. This story is a great murder investigation, it has lots of suspense, intrigue, red herrings and action. I loved how the author melds real life difficulties into the story. Your heart hurts at struggles happening in Tessa’s home life, but the heartache is balanced nicely by her growing relationship with Logan. A Bone Broken is a fast-paced novella with characters you care about and a plot that keeps you enthralled. I received an early copy of this book from Montlake Romance via NetGalley with no obligation to review. This in no way influenced my review and all opinions expressed are solely my own.
What a non stop read! Loved this romantic suspense with Tessa and Logan! Perfect example of why I adore this author. All the drama and mystery and suspense! Pls write more of these novellas!
A Broken Bone is the sixth novella to Melinda Leigh’s and Kendra Elliot’s Widow’s Island series. It was another great addition to the dynamic duo’s novella series. I love these two authors, and when they write together. 🙂
Storyline: This novella focuses on Deputy Tessa Black and Park Ranger Logan Wilde, where they investigate a possible explosion in a quiet neighborhood. They end up getting more than a blast. Two weeks ago, Tessa searched for a missing teenager that his foster parents said ran away from home. She never found him until now. She has to find out what happened to the young man, and if something sinister happens to him. Logan ends up assisting her along the way, and he ends up helping not only with the case but with Tessa’s home life.
My Thoughts: This novella I was not prepared for when I started reading it. I mean, I read the story’s synopsis but was not expecting where the story was going to end up. This is why I love Melinda Leigh’s and Kendra Elliot’s stories. They always surprise me. It amazes me what they research and comes up for in their stories. This novella had the biggest twist towards the end after Tessa and Logan figured out what happened to the missing teenager found dead in an abandoned house. I love twists, but this one was something that had me in shock. It took me some time to recover. This novella will have readers learning about foster families and also having someone that has Dementia. I’ve been around someone with Alzheimer’s, and it broke my heart watching my Great Uncle go through having the disease. This man was one of the happiest people I knew, and he traveled everywhere. Life changed after he was diagnosed. Melinda had me in tears during a scene because I felt the main character’s pain watching someone you love has Dementia change them. This novella put me through the wringer, and I would read it over again. I enjoyed the twists and turns and finding out who was behind everything. It was a shock, though, on who was the actual villain of the story. I will say this there is some happiness in the book. =)
Series/Standalone: Part of series and I would recommend reading in order.
Would I recommend this novella/series? Yes. This novella receives 5-stars from me, and I highly recommend it to Romantic Suspense/Mystery readers.
Now I’ll have to wait until next year when the next two novellas in the series come out. In the meantime, I’ll catch up on books from both authors that I’ve wanted to read for a while.
Melinda Leigh never disappoints! Every one I read I think is my favorite but then the next one comes along and it’s even better! She is absolutely one of the best authors to read!
I’m a big fan of Deputy Tessa Black, she carries a lot of responsibility but yet she does her job. The murder was I retesting, I enjoyed the romance aspect. And as usual I love the friendships.
Deputy Tessa Black and Ranger Logan Wilde respond to a call about a dead teen. The investigation takes them down an unexpected path. This is a novella so it is a fast read. It has a good plot and I like the characters. It was good to revisit characters from previous books in the series, but this could be read as a stand alone. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Murder, mystery and romance. A shocking twist that I didn't expect. Another thrilling read, with major surprises.
Book #6 of this series and I really loved it! While I'm not a fan of novella's I've really enjoyed this series so far.
There's plenty of action, murder, twists / turns, great characters, quick closure, and I love revisiting with all the characters from all the previous books.
I'm looking forward to the next books this is series.

Did not see that coming! Still going wow! Love this series, love this author and love that I am entertained and thought provoked. Tessa and Logan are my favorite on Widows Island and I have a sneaking suspicion down the road Suzanne is going to move me to tears, but that in the future, some day, maybe. .A Broken Bone is a mystery that deftly lays a light hand on dementia and foster care. A light romance as Logan and Tessa navigate their life together while trying to solve the disappearance of Gavin. A Bone Broken is a fast paced novella that makes you think, care and feel as you try and solve they mystery. Thank you Melinda Leigh for another great read. Thank you Montlake and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this arc. I freely volunteer my own thoughts and opinions and recommend this book to anyone who wants a fast read that takes you away.
I love this series and this book focuses on Tessa and Logan. Once a body is found in a basement the hunt is on for the murderer and the identity of the victim. I love that this book can be read on it's own or as part of the series. As with all of the books in this series, once I started reading I couldn't put the book down. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next one!
Deputy Tessa Black and her partner Park Ranger Logan Wilde respond to a call that ends up revealing the murder of a teen. Lots of red herrings in the investigation of his murder that has you as a the reader wondering who actually committed the crime.
As I said in my review of Book 5, even though this was a short story the murder investigation was contained to this book, no crossing over from Kendra's. At this stage of the series I really enjoyed that. I think this may be the last book of the series and if it is I know these two authors – Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot – will one day give is a new combined series and will look forward to that and more books from their individual series.
