This one was excellent! This is one of those books that takes a sharp turn each time you feel you have figured it out. It also tugs at your mom heartstrings and I felt rather panicked throughout the book on Bree’s behalf. I couldn’t put this one down- I read 80% of it on a flight back from mexico, and then immediately picked it up once we got home because I couldn’t wait to find out what happened.
Bree turned her back for one minute, and her son was gone.
What could have happened? She found out soon enough. It was the woman who had been lurking in her yard and in the parking lot of the school that had taken him.
The woman who had her son had Bree doing things she never would have done, but she had to do them to get her son back.
She found out that even though she did everything the woman said including murder, her son was still with this woman and in danger.
Talk about tension...this book will have you biting your nails and wondering if someone else was involved in the plot or did it have something to do with a case her husband had been on? How could an old woman carry out this devious plan?
The terror Bree felt came through the pages. Just think how you would feel if your baby had been taken. Wouldn't you do anything to get your baby back?
MOTHER MAY I will pull you in and not let you go.
All the secrets everyone had and that were being revealed will have you not being able to put the book down.
So good - don’t miss it is my final comment.
This book was given to me by the publisher via NetGalley and print in exchange for an honest review.
Mother May I is every woman's worst nightmare, turning around to find that your baby is gone.
Bree Caabat has it all -- a handsome and successful husband, three beautiful and healthy children, and a beautiful home in an exclusive area. All of that changes in an instant. Not only is her infant son kidnapped, but Bree is then forced into making a series of diabolical decisions in a desperate attempt to have Robert returned. How far is Bree willing to go and what else is she willing to sacrifice? I absolutely loved this book. In my opinion, it's Joshilyn Jackson's best, most addictive novel so far, and my advice to other readers is to start Mother May I when you have time to binge it, because you won't want to put it down.
What would you do to save your son?
This is the question Bree faces when her son is kidnapped. The kidnapper's ransom demands do not involve money but rather specific conditions which include Bree's own husband & her husband's best friend.I
Working with her own deceased best friend's husband, Marshall, and someone Bree has known well since college, the suspenseful story is told. The book has twists & turns which kept me riveted & wanting to find out more.
While I enjoyed the book at times I found the jump between characters, every other chapter is told from either the viewpoint of Bree or Marshall, to be slightly disruptive to the stories cohesiveness.
I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in mystery/suspense books or books which may make the reader slightly uncomfortable at times.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me access to the ARC e-book & the opportunity to read and review the book.
What a ride! This was a very fast-paced, satisfying thriller that I did not want to put down. Interesting, complex characters and a propulsive plot made for great reading.
Wow I could not put this book down! So many emotions reading this. If you are looking for a thriller/mystery this should be your next read! This was my first book by Joshilyn Jack but certainly won’t be my last!
Mother May I starts off a bit creepy and unsettling- in a way I throughly enjoyed. Just when you think you have it all figured out- something else catches you off guard.
This book was a dark and twisty ride and I had a lot of trouble putting it down. Some things didn't surprise me but that ending, WOW. No spoilers, but it was VERY unexpected for me.
One thing I didn't love were the flashbacks. They didn't fit seamlessly into the story for me and it was a little distracting. Other than that I loved this book.
Oh my goodness!!! This book is a wild ride for sure!!!! I loved this book!! The story was very suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat from the moment Robert was taken until the end!!! At one point I thought the "punchline" was too soon in relation to the end of the book but no there was more!!! Loved this book! Very original in my opinion and definitely kept me interested the entire time!!!
I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put this book down. I was enthralled by the twists and turns and surprising events that took place. I wish the ending had been longer and as complex as the rest of the the book. It was all wrapped up tidily pretty quickly. I rarely rate a book 5 stars and I really thought as I read that this one was going to make it there! But the ending.... I have loved every book by Joshilyn Jackson and I’m already looking forward to her next one.
A promising read by this great author, as usual.... I enjoyed the premise & the story clipped along at a great pace. Thanks for the ARC!
Holy cow! This book was amazing and I am lucky that I got to read an advanced reader’s copy (thanks Harper Collins). I love a great thriller and this one kept me guessing and I definitely didn’t see the ending coming! This was my second Joshilyn Jackson novel and I will be adding her to my list of authors to read!
Thank you to Netgalley and William Marrow for this advanced reading copy in order for my honest review.
OMG, did that really happen?
I was hooked from the very first line in this book. I listened and read this book going back and forth between the two. I loved the audio the most, it really sucked me in and held my attention the entire time. This book is full of twists and turns and I had no idea where this was going to end. While I do think that some parts of the book went on and had too much detail, I still loved every single second of it. This book was definitely a wild ride with twists and turns. Up until the ending I had no idea how it would end, and when it did end my jaw was on the ground. This is a wonderful psychological thriller that was just what I needed to take a break from romances. The only reason I and giving this one 4 and not 5 stars is because of how drawn out some of the parts are.
Bree is a mother of three who had a difficult upbringing and finally got everything she wanted when she married Trey. She thought that nothing could go wrong in her happy little bubble, that she had nothing to worry about as her mother did. Until she thinks she sees a witch outside of her window and the next day her son disappears. Of course like any mother, she would do anything to get her son back and that's exactly what she does. With deaths and uncovered secrets, Bree is determined to do anything and everything she can to get her son back even if it costs her, her husband.
TW: Sexual Assault, Kidnapping, child death.
This book was full of twists and turns and unlike your typical thriller those twists and turns brought the reader to have to face difficult topics and before I could finish processing bam we were off in another direction completely. This book tackles gender roles, sexual assault, revenge, unfair discrepancies based on socioeconomic status, kidnapping, and murder. I loved that the chapters alternated between the perspectives of the two main characters Bree and Marshall. Bree is happily married and the mother of three. She is grateful for the privilege she has married into because she was raised by a single mother and knows what struggling looks like. Marshall is one of her oldest friends who had been married to her best friend Betsy until Betsy’s unfortunate all too early death. When the unthinkable happens and Bree’s baby boy is kidnapped Marshall is the first person she reaches out to. This book is her journey of trying to regain her son while finding secrets she had no idea were buried in her husband’s past. This was the first book by Joshilyn Jackson I have read but it will definitely not be the last!
I enjoyed the thriller aspect of this book but I thought the ending went too far. I don’t want to give away the story but their are important moral discussions in this story and an ending that I thought was too neatly wrapped up.
Bree Cabot’s baby son is kidnapped from the car at her daughters’ private school when she looks away for a minute. The woman who kidnapped the child demands that Bree perform an act of revenge to get her baby back. She receives help from her friend to track clues in a frantic attempt to find her son. She discovers dark secrets and struggles with her willingness to do anything to save her child. This thriller has suspenseful twists, deception and morally questionable dilemmas. Though the actions held my attention, I found the characters to be unlikeable and the ending unsatisfying.
Thank you HarperCollins and NetGalley for my ARC of this twisty thriller. The book is the story of Bree Cabbat when her infant son is abducted while her husband is away on business. It follows Bree into the mind of what lengths a mother will do to save her child. Along the way, we learn of deceit and what we will do to cover it up when our loved ones are involved. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. A good psychological thriller. It was my second Joshilyn Jackson novel and I will definitely be reading more. I would recommend this as a quick read for all of those suspense lovers out there. Goes on sale 4/6/2021.
Non-stop action in this thrilling novel. I feel like this would make a rear movie. I really enjoyed the twists and trying to figure out the connections in this thriller.
I was very excited about this book as I have read many other titles from this author. There were many page turning scenarios but I felt confused by the turn of events and felt it was muddled.
This is the first book that I have read by Joshilyn Jackson and I would read another. It starts as a thriller with a kidnapped child and throws in some family drama. There was a strong main character, Bree. The book had a nice pace, I never felt like it was dragging. I just wanted to keep reading. The only thing I didn’t like was the title! Just didn’t fit.
I want to thank William Morrow and NetGallery for my ARC ebook.
