It Had to Be You by Georgia Clark plays on the concept of "what happens after the cheating?" Liv and Eliot Goldenhorn ran In Love In New York, a wedding planning business, together, but then Eliot had the nerve to go off and die. Even worse, he left a portion of the company to his mistress Savannah.

While that's enough of a plotline, Clark expanded on this premise to feed out to a network of five couples. And, this book follows the adventures in love of these five interconnected pairs. It's a book about first loves and old loves. It's about discovering who you are in love and that you might love differently than you thought before. This is what takes this story from average to strong.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts are my own.

Hi, nice to meet you.

Can you even imagine???!!

What would that conversation look like?
You’ll have to read the book to find out.

But here’s a quick review of what I thought of IT HAD TO BE YOU By: Georgia Clark
Out Now!

This premise is really crazy. Almost immediately I wanted it to be a thriller and not a romance. I’m a true thriller lover at heart and every storyline I come across I can imagine the characters each two steps away from disaster.

I wouldn’t say IT HAD TO BE YOU was all that different. It centers around a wedding planner business which was intriguing. I once acted in the role of a wedding planner. I did not know what I was doing, but we figured it out. And the wedding that was pulled off was pretty memorable.

The book is kind of like that. There were a few parts where the number of spikes on the story wheel made me dizzy. I was confused. But then the next thing I knew, I was able to see the characters in my mind, and the story wrapped up rather nicely.

I came away thinking there was enough material for a few books here. Georgia Clark is very talented, and it shines in this book.

One HUGE thing I really enjoyed about the book was the range of character constructs. Some characters were young, old, exploring, explored, those seeking questions, and those seeking answers. They really were diverse. Which I much appreciated!

This book just didn’t do it for me. I didn’t connect with the writing or with most of the characters. I felt like a lot of the chemistry was very forced and the ending clichéd.

It appears I am in the minority in this opinion so if you love romcoms and interconnected story lines you should still check this one out! It just was a miss for me.

Married parents of a young boy, Liv and Eliot Goldenhorn, own and operate Love in New York, a NYC based wedding planning service until the day he dies in the arms of his mistress. Liv thought that was the only shock she would receive, but soon she finds out he left his share of the company to Savannah, that very same mistress. Liv and Savannah must find a way to work together to breathe new life into the failing business. Throughout the wedding season, together with their company employees, they may or may not find love and happiness.

It Had To Be You is a lovely combination of love stories that fuse into one delightful Rom-Com. Filled with diverse, interesting characters and finished with a satisfying end to wrap it all up. Fabulous beach read for the summer!

It Had to Be You was a fun read with a pretty absurd premise but lots of great characters. The description of the book makes it seem as if the story revolves around the main character Liv and how she navigates having to run a wedding planning business with her dead husband's secret girlfriend, which it does, but also there are many more main characters and loosely tied together plots. The setup made the story fast paced and fun. It felt similar to watching Valentine's Day (the movie) to me, and it is also being compared to Love Actually. A great, non-steamy rom-com set in New York and around the wedding planning industry.

A huge thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for providing me a copy of the ebook in exchange for an honest review.

I was very excited about the concept of this book, it was a sort of Love Actually concept. I enjoyed the movie, and while it wasn’t my favourite, I was excited to see the concept play out in book format. However, the execution fell flat. The characters were mostly unrelatable, and I couldn’t get into them. They were also not very well developed, which made me care even less. The varying perspectives weren’t different enough and led to me confusing characters for one another. This book was wildly confusing and I’m just glad it’s over.

It Had To Be You by Georgia Clark was a delightful, fun read with a large cast of characters! All of the stories integrate so well into each other and this book kept me entertained from start to finish! I want to see this as a movie or TV show!! I blew through this book and was sad when I was at the end.

I absolutely ADORED this book. It was such a cute easy read. And it had just the right amount of steam without being over the top. I loved the plot and the character development and just everything about this book!

Let me start by saying I am not a fan of books with a million characters. It took me FOREVER to wrap my head around all of the characters in this one, which is one reason it took me so long to finish. Who is who, who knows who, who is related to who, who is into who… yeah, it was a lot.

Once I finally got to know each and every character and got a better idea of how everyone is linked, the story became so much better. I loved that this one dove deep into self discovery with each and every character. They were all navigating life in different ways and had their own trials and tribulations they were working through.

Some things that I loved and that really stood out to me:

+ interracial relationships
+ LGBTQ
+ representation of special needs
+ life after loss
+ unlikely friendships
+ second chances

This is definitely a story that you need to play close attention to in order to get to know the characters and how they are all linked in some way. After writing this review I do feel a little gracious with my 4 stars, multiple characters bug me that much. I also think that the main character Liv deserved a little more attention than she was given. The book starts as though she is our main character, and then all of these secondary characters really begin to overshadow her story. I’m graciously giving it 4 stars because each character developed into such likable characters in their own way, and I’m all for a happily ever after.

I also highly recommend Georgia Clark’s other book called The Bucket List.

I really did not know what to expect with this story- I honestly thought it would be much different. I was pleasantly surprised with how it really was- it followed multiple characters and their relationships but was not confusing or choppy at all. I also felt that the characters and their journeys were written realistically and involved lots of tropes, diversity and humour. I definitely recommended this book to readers who enjoy weddings, romance and a bit of the unexpected.

I enjoyed this book, and the author is so personable and adorable-plus the cover is of this book is too cute and makes me feel all sorts of happy!

With that being said-I really was expecting a romcom, but what an got was just a tad unsatisfying. Maybe I went in with too high of expectations, but something was lacking for me with this book. Maybe it was the concept of numerous couples, and how the book kind of jumped from couple to couple-similar to the movie Love Actually. It was a little too all over the place for me. I wish the book would have focused solely on Liv, and her story/journey.

I did finish the book, I am glad I read it, and I will be recommending to others because I feel like there are so many who adored this book and gave it 5 star raving reviews, and everyone should form their own opinion.

DNF. Do you love Love Actually or that type of ensemble romantic movie? If so - It Had To Be You might be a great fit for you! Unfortunately, I don’t and hadn’t realized what I was getting into with this one. I’m not a good match for it. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.
