I really want to give this a great review and I think I would be able to if I hadn't taken such a strong dislike for the mother of the MacTaggert boys. Maybe it is more of a total disconnect with how a mother could leave her three boys for 17 years and worse, take her daughter only, thus further fracturing the family. I have been so focused on that, that I have lost out on some great Highland romances with Niall, Aden and now Coll. I actually keep hoping for some horrible blackmail plot twist in which the mother, in order to spare the lives of her husband and/or children, was forced to do what she did. I guess I was supposed to feel compassion that the father never passed the letters between her and her boys but if anyone kept me from communication with my children, I'd walk from London to Scottland in a heartbeat - nothing would stop me. If it really was only her pride than move over Mommy Dearest!
I also must admit that I have a hard time respecting any of her kids as they, for some unknown reason, give the entire situation a pass. I think they need some major counseling.
I may be torturing myself as I keep reading because I'm hoping there is something that will vindicate this mother. It didn't happen in this one and there is only one sibling left. Fingers-crossed!
Without all of the above, I did like Coll and Persephone Jones together.

This is book 3 in Enoch's latest series. I do suggest you read in order, as there is a lot of family history that is explained throughout the books and why the 3 highlander siblings are in England. I didn't read book 1, but I did read book 2, and found myself wishing I had read book 1 to understand the whole arrangement made with their mother.
The MagTaggert male siblings have been living in the highlanders with their father for 18 years while their mother left for England. Now, their mother has decreed that they all must wed English women before their youngest sister Eloise is married or they lose all of their money.
This story begins with Eloise's wedding to take place in a month's time. Coll's siblings Niall and Aden have already found their true love on English soil and that leaves him left to marry and secure the money he needs for his life and those that depend on him. He has fought his mother's manipulations at every turn thus far though and he doesn't plan on stopping.
Give this book a try if you are in the mood for:
-A class difference feel - Coll is a Viscount and Persephone is an actress - a match between them is one of the ultimate sins in society
-An experienced heroine - she hasn't had the best lovers, but she's had a number of protectors in her life.
-A huge 6’4” burly highlander that’s been months celibate for a hero
-A working heroine - she's been an actress for 6 years and thrives on the stage
-A touch of secret identity - the heroine is hiding who she really is
-A touch of mystery, and plenty of action with a protective hero to help the heroine survive all the attempts taken against her life.
-Light to moderate steam - it ranks as 3 eggplants, with quite a few kisses, though most of them are very short (some a sentence) and a few full sex scenes. They aren't overly explicit though.
-Hero is 29 and heroine is 28
I have read a number of Enoch's work, I believe this is my 6th book by her. Overall she has been mostly miss for me sadly, though I adored the previous book in this series (Scot Under the Covers). I do plan on trying book 1 of this series sometime.
Enoch's writing in this book was fabulous in the first half of the book. I really loved the family dynamics and was laughing out loud at much of the banter and descriptions. The tension was building and I was really loving the characters.
Then, at 30% of the book, it turned. A few things happened that completely destroyed the tension for me and it never picked back up. I stopped caring about the relationship sadly and action and chaos reigned until I just wanted it over.
To me, there were just too many attempts against the heroine's life. It was just non stop and the focus completely swung to that happening repeatedly instead of building the relationship further. I was left not convinced the characters were in true love with each other, but they definitely felt lust.
The intimate scenes left me wanting. I was not satisfied. I'm not sure what I wanted, maybe more explicitness? More emotion? I don't know. I think if you tend to like lighter steam, or don't need heavy sex scenes this won't bother you at all. Also, most of the scenes were towards the first half the book with the second half filled with action and I prefer tension building the first half and more intimacy later in the book. I want to want it! Crave it. Be dying for them to touch. To me, it was too early in this book.
Still I think these past few books I've tried from this series have had really great writing and I have been way more interested in them versus her older work I tried.
A fitting conclusion to Highlanders series!
What a wild ride it’s been and in this third book in the series Coll MacTaggert, Viscount Glendarril, lives up to the MacTaggert tradition.
This is the man who pursued a villain down Grosvenor Square clad in nothing but his boots and carrying a large sword, to the secretly scandalized delight of the ton.
It stands to reason any answer to his mother’s demands for an English bride would be guaranteed to fly in her face. Remember the MacTaggert men had to find English brides or loose the monies needed to support Aldriss Park, the MacTaggert Highland stronghold, and all it’s dependents
These three brawny alpha males were dragged into doing something against their will by their Sassenach mother. Two had fallen for English women but now it’s Coll’s time for pay back, as his mother parades a series of either ambitious or feather brained chits before him. Being ambushed at the theatre was too much.
Coll chooses to give his mother a run for her money, so when he declares he’ll have an English bride of his own finding his mother didn’t expect an actress to be Coll’s answer.
The thing is he didn’t expect to become so enamoured of Persephone Jones, a talented Shakespeare actress, and when her life is threatened Coll finds himself facing a few hard questions.
Another delight from Enoch!

I am so torn about writing this review as i have read Suzanne Enoch's books for years and she was always a go-to author for me. It's been a while since I've read one of her books and was so excited. Unfortunately, I was slightly disappointed.
I will admit that I haven't read the other books in the series, but this book can stand alone. Enough information was given that you don't feel like you're missing major plot points from past stories. Coll was a strong character with a lot of depth. I felt something was off with the heroine, Persie, that I couldn't connect with. The story moved along at a nice pace and kept me interested enough to find out who Persie really was,.
I look forward to future stories.
Hit Me With Your Best Scot is the third book in the Wild Wicked Highlanders series by Suzanne Enoch. A steamy historical romance with lots of drama and undeniable chemistry. I was pulled in from the beginning to another place, another time with lots of action. There were family issues, mysteries inside mysteries, and the romance was off the charts. So much love for this one!!!
We love a friends to lovers story in this house!! I don’t read this trope very often but this one is definitely a new favourite and one I will be recommending!
We follow Coll, the last of these 3 brothers that need to find a wife before their youngest sister gets married so that their mother will give them the money they need to keep their people safe and cared for. Coll is willing to find a wife but he doesn’t want just any person and in his quest, he comes across the actress Persephone Jones.
He’s immediately intrigued by her and tells his mother that she is who he will be marrying. He says it originally as a joke, using her name as a way to make his mother lose her mind thinking he’d wed an actress but as we all know... Words have a way of coming back to us.
I really loved the progression of Persephone and Coll’s friendship and relationship. The banter flowed easily between them and they both really understood the other and quite quickly. They made great friends and an even better couple!
I do wish we had gotten a bit more time with them as friends as their actual relationship felt a bit rushed but overall, I still had a great time with this book and ultimately this series!
The mysteries kept me on my toes even the easier ones to guess. The mystery element really added an extra flair and danger element to this book that kept me turning the pages. I was happy to have not figured out the plot twist until almost before it was revealed.
If you like historical romance with a daring and bold female lead, a grumpy but wickedly sharp Viscount, a devil cat and a murder mystery, give this one a try!
3.5/5 ⭐️
TW: attempted murder, assault, fire, abandonment from a parent, sexual assault, sexually explicit scenes.
Review will be up on my blog on release day!
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book. It's great, it's fresh yet within the historical romance boundaries. The language and humor are delicious, the characters are wonderful and there's something going on all the time - no room for boredom. The relationship between Coll and his siblings was also great and I loved the dynamics with his younger sister. It was nice to have a heroine that was not a sassy debutante and their bedroom time was hot. I can't wait for the next installment!
What a great finish to a really good series. This is book 3 in the MacTaggert brothers series. This story is about the oldest brother Coll, the Viscount and heir to the Earl of Aldriss.
The brothers, all Highlanders, are forced to go to London to find prospective brides. Books 1 and 2 are stories about the younger 2 brothers finding their prospective brides. This can be read as a stand alone.
How can Coll get around the edict that he has to marry? The contract doesn't say a lady but it does say an English women. How better to get his mother off his back then to say he's marrying Persephone Jones the actress. He met Mrs. Jones while defending her from a overly persistent admirer.
The two develope a friendship that becomes more serious as time goes on.
I loved the relationship between Coll and Persie. You could see the friendship turning into something more, the respect they had for each other.
He was a very strong Alpha Male hero but she was just as much a dominant heroine. She had her life in order, she didnt need a male to lean upon.
But Coll made her happy and Persie was the one he was looking for.
5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I want to thank Netgalley for the chance to review this book.
This book was my catnip! Shakespeare, cats, and Scotsman, what’s not to love?
The third book in the series focuses on Coll, the oldest brother in the family of Scotsmen manipulated into coming to London to marry before his sister does. While trying to avoid ladies his mother considers good choices, he goes backstage at a theater and meets Persephone, and actress in the middle of performing As You Like It.
The book is chock full of Shakespeare references; each chapter starts with a quotation from Macbeth, and the hero and heroine trade quotations throughout the story. We get a gruff Scotsman falling for an intelligent and independent woman, and it works so well.
I was able to figure out the mystery/twist, but only because of the amazingly well-dropped clues by the author. I loved this book!
I received an advanced readers copy of this book from the publisher and Net Galley in return for a fair review.
4.5 stars, rounded up.
Thanks to an agreement his estranged parents made 17 years ago, Coll MacTaggert, Viscount Glendarril and heir to the Earl Aldriss, along with his two brothers – must marry an Englishwoman before their sister Eloise marries in a few weeks or their mother will no longer fund their Scottish estate. Originally the brothers planned to arrive in London and wreak havoc, thinking that their mother would back down, but grossly underestimated her and now that his brothers have found love, Coll has no choice but to find a bride – but he will do so on his own terms and will not let the countess pick his bride! He is escaping her latest matchmaking attempt when he meets Mrs. Persephone Jones, the lead actress at the Saint Genesius Theatre, and is immediately intrigued, and even though Coll knows that an actress is not a suitable choice for a wife, he can’t seem to walk away. And when he protects her from an unwanted suitor he decides to take the position of her protector – at least until he finds a wife.
Persephone has secrets and has been hiding in plain sight for eight years, she knows getting involved with Coll is a mistake and could potentially expose her, but there is something about him that touches her like no one ever has, and even knowing he needs a bride, a position she could never fill, she can’t seem to send him away. She knows their time together is limited and even offers to help him find a bride and justification for spending time with him in exchange for his protection, a position he happily agrees to. Coll plans to enjoy his time with her and even tells his mother he is going to marry her to annoy her and to give him time to find a bride without her meddling. But after yet another “accident” almost kills Persephone, Coll realizes two things, one; that someone is trying to kill her, and two; he can’t live without her. Persephone knows the time has come to tell Coll the truth and wonders if she is brave enough to face her past so she can have a future with the man she has come to love.
This was a great story, well-written and fast-paced, with wonderful characters and a well-plotted “whodunit”. Of the three brothers, I think Coll is my favorite, I loved his protective nature and his willingness to let Persephone be herself –Sigh, he is just amazing. The story has so much to offer: secrets, scandal, steamyish love scenes, a well-executed mystery, cameos from previous characters, surprises, a strong likable heroine, great secondary characters, and a hard-won HEA. What kept this from being a five-star book is the fact that it is the last book in the series and it ended with some unanswered questions and no epilogue. I wanted to know what happened with his parents and would have liked a glimpse into the future with all three brothers, unfortunately, that did not happen, so I am left to wonder and feel a bit cheated. Even still, I really enjoyed this story and would happily recommend the title.
This intriguing historical romance is nothing short of captivating! This story has so many wonderful layers. If you want a story that’s going to fill you up and make you happy, that’s entertaining with just the right amount of spice and filled with a ton of love, this is it. The emotions displayed by the main character...have an intensity that will have readers wanting more.
Oh these two... I knew before I opened this book I’d love it. The author’s writing is flawless. I have become a huge fan of this series and the McTaggert brothers, but I have been waiting for Coll McTaggerts’ story since the beginning and this didn’t disappoint. This strapping, sexy, wear his heart on his sleeve, put-it-all-out-there Scot will steal your heart as he pushes away every other suitor from Mrs. Persephone Jones. An actress who has already broken half of the Lords hearts in London. But what starts out as just a game he is playing with his mother to upset her, and give him more time to find his own woman, becomes so much more.
When someone starts trying to kill Mrs Jones he soon finds himself as her protector. And as they spend more time around each other their feelings are unexpected. Delectable. Fascinating. Mesmerizing. Addictive. Trouble. Their story is full of witty banter, humor, warmth, intrigue, romance and best of all a HEA. Absolutely feel in love with this story.
Received a copy from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.
I have enjoyed this series and I've been eagerly waiting for Coll's book.
I love love loved Persephone. She's smart and sassy and I loved that she was open when needed to be. Coll has been a gruff character throughout the series and this was no exception. Persephone and Coll have instant chemistry and I enjoyed reading their relationship grow and change. Of course it's always fun to see the other couples and Francesca.
Plot wise, it was good. The tension wasn't as prominent as I expected it to be (especially when attempted murder is the premise), but it did set up a lot of "I need to protect you so stay close to me" moments. I was basically beside myself to see Coll be a gooey marshmallow when it came to Persephone -- or at least his version of it. The two of them had loads of honest conversations and that's what I'm always here for.
Overall, this was a fun series filled with characters who were easy to root for. I wish there would have been more of an epilogue or a future-take, but I'll just be over here hoping for more from this family.
**Huge thanks to St. Martin's Press for providing the arc free of charge**
Intrigue, humor and romance, a great combination. The story is pretty fast paced with multilayered characters. The Scottish brothers are a force to reckon with and Coll being the most complex. I loved the dialogue and who doesn’t like a bit of Shakespeare thrown into the mix? I’m going to look for the stories about the other brothers as their romances seem to be almost as entertaining as this one.
This is the third book in the series, and it was the best in my opinion. The characters are more fully formed, the plot is unique, and the dialogue is snappy and fun.
While it is part of a series, I believe it can stand well on it's own. Regardless, it's a fun, steamy read and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good brogue.
4.5 Stars!
I really enjoyed Hit me With Your Best Scot. The story held humor, romance and mystery!
I loved Coll. He was a man who knew who he wanted. He was sharp witted, funny and was willing to stand up for what he believed in.
Persie isn't what she seems to be but that didn't stop these two from being together. There were some parts that I didn't find believable but it didn't deter my like of the book.
It's would have been a higher rating for me but I felt that it was rushed at the end.
Has the author saved her best MacTaggert for the last in the Wild Wicked Highlander series (perhaps, but let's not forget the patriarch)? The premise behind why the MacTaggert men have to marry is a bit daffy, but then unnecessary family drama usually is, still set up aside, the hero is thoughtful and considerate even if he masquerades as a brute. The heroine is not peevish, but her multi-layered temperament wanes in the latter part of the story. Coll MacTaggert gets all the character points here, and his persona is enough to carry the story.
A Scottish Earl who has 4 weeks to marry an English woman and a skilled actress who hides behind the characters she portrays find unexpected love in this fiery novel! I loved every moment of this book—the passion, the danger, the adventure, the humor, the love! Coll and Persephone were both strong-willed, smart, and devoted, and I thoroughly enjoyed their story!
I love Suzanne Enoch, her characters are interesting and charming and I love the escapades that they get involved in, this is a really wonderful and page turning read.
When netgalley and the publisher asked me to read and review this book I was excited because the cover art is stunning. This whole series has been fun to read and I have loved every book. Five big stars of love for this one.
Coll, the unapologetic, alpha protective, quick to speak with his fists, Scottish highlander all the way, mountain of manly muscle was the best part of the story for me. He eventually came to grips with the reality Persephone, the society forbidden to him love interest, was it for him and wasn’t letting her go. Even before she finally allowed herself the same hope. Not that he didn’t think for a verra long time all they could share were stolen, smexy moments. He reluctantly still did his duty prowling the Ton looking for an accepted English lady wife using Persephone’s insight, advice, and mostly blessing it seemed. Avid romantics at heart may struggle with that element, folks. Persephone may have been a damsel in distress in some ways, but she was also sassy, strong willed, and independent in other aspects.
Thankfully there was a welcome, appreciated twist interjected which opened the door to new possibilities. However, a perilous plot had to be dealt with so it took center stage for a large portion of the latter half.
Persephone’s persona was rather original. Though I am surprised, due to her notoriety among the Ton, it took as long as it did for someone to put the pieces together. I did gringe and was bothered by the automatic slander/assumptions made of her profession/craft, but felt she could and should have tried to set people straight.
All in all it was an intriguing premise for the setup of a romantic plot. The reveal of the lurking in the shadows culprit, after such a drawn out search, felt a little contrived, but I rolled with it. I was more surprised by the lack of an eventual, heated, let’s make up now, parental showdown than anything.
Coll’s family rallying to the cause was verra commendable indeed. Except for his sister, Eloise, who I still hold a grudge against despite her belated apology for only thinking of herself at first, I definitely enjoyed the cast of sub characters who contributed to this romantic tale.
Title Hit Me With Your Best Scot, Series: Wild Wicked Highlanders (Book 3), Author: Suzanne Enoch, Pages: 336, pub date: 2/9/21, stand-alone but part of a series, very graphic steamy scenes, actress heroine, alpha protective hero, hiding a secret, may not be romance safe for some due to hero still searching for a wife after being intimate with heroine, non-virgin MC.
Book 1 - It’s Getting Scot in Here
Book 2 - Scot Under the Covers
