An Entertaining Story.
Coll is the Highlander who is being forced to marry and Persephone the unsuitable actress to whom he is drawn when he escapes the company of his mother’s bride choices. A series of accidents aimed at Persephone lead to him protecting her rather than searching for a bride and he finds he has feelings for her like no other woman.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Suzanne Enoch is a hit or miss kind of author for me. She used to be one of my favorite writers years ago but her latest works don’t usually sit well with me. That’s why I haven’t read the two previous books in the trilogy and that was a mistake. Because you need to read the other books in order to get into the world of the McTaggert brothers.
Regardless of that fact, I must say that even if I liked this book, and it’ wasn’t more than a simple ‘like’, I found it at some points rather lazy. I loved the plot and the heroine, but the rest of it was meh. And I think the fault is in the way Suzanne Enoch portrays Coll, the main male character, and his brothers. It’s full of topics and stereotypes, and I wouldn’t have minded much if it weren’t for the fact that Ms Enoch has a vast experience writing Highlanders and she’s done it well in the past, but this time she just wrote stereotypes.
So the story revolves around an actress with a past who has someone threatening her life and a viscount who is a big mountain of a Higlhlander who is in want of an English wife. He needs to fulfill an agreement signed by his parents some seventeen years ago in order to receive the funds he needs for his lands from his mother. So Persephone and Coll meet and they make a deal; she will help him find a wife and in return he will be his protector. And then they fall in love.
Persephone is the best part about the novel. She’s a self-made independent woman who doesn’t need the support of a man and who is perfectly happy portraying strong female (and sometimes male) shakespearean characters in a theatre. And Coll is the ABC of a Highland born man. He’s huge, he’s strong, he’s stubborn and he has a huge sense of honor. But of course “I can read and write”. I mean he’s likable enough, he has a good heart and he’s gentle. But he’s constantly described as a brute, and more eager to talk with his fists than with words, and he of course despises the English and their ways. He’s reminding everyone of how uncivilized he is and how wild his childhood was… it gets boring after the third repetition of the facts. This character doesn’t deserve that! Of course he’s not the only one being described like that, his brothers and father also get the same treatment.
I can’t go into detail about the McTaggert family situation because it would spoil the entire trilogy, but I found the reasons for their parents to go their separate ways incredibly stupid. Let me only say this: she’s English, he’s a Highlander. That sums up the whole thing.
As for the romance aspect of it. I didn’t like how it started (a kiss out of the blue, and then a tryst, also out of the blue) but I liked very much how it evolved. So in the end, that side of the novel was alright.
I truly wanted to like this book better but it’s boring and lazy writing. It gets better by the last third of the book but I know I will forget about it as soon as I pick a new book to read. I expected more and better of Suzanne Enoch honestly, she wrote some of my favorite Highlander romances in the past after all. This time… NO.
**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**
I knew that Coll was going to need a woman with a lot of backbone. He did not want to lose his lands but he did not want his mother to win either.
Enter stage left, actress extraordinaire, Persephone Jones. She is the toast of the town but definitely does not meet Coll’s mothers standards at all. She has a lot of spirit & a lot of secrets.
Of course, they strike a bargain to help one another. We have some educational courting.
There were a lot of things I really loved in this book. Coll & Persis are a great couple. There were a few things that didn’t work for me but that’s just an opinion.
I had hoped to see their father and mother in the same house because I didn’t buy the story that she left and didn’t care about her sons.
All in all, it was a satisfying finish to this series. Perhaps we’ll get a prequel with the parents?
A sweet and exciting story. Persephone Jones, a famous actress who is hiding a dangerous secret and Coll MacTaggert a giant of a man who is being forced to marry an English lady by his mother. They meet one night in a play Persie happens to be doing and Coll comes to her rescue when she's being harassed by her protector. They strike a friendship when Persie asks Coll to be her fake protector in exchange she will help tutor Coll into wooing a lady. The story picks up once both figure out that someone is trying to kill Persie and Coll helps her unmask the killer. Time closes in on Persie when she has no choice but to reveal to Coll the secret she's hiding.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC in exchange for my fair and honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed are completely my own
A very fun ending to a plot-heavy, Scot with an English lass, family series. I really enjoyed going for this ride with Suzanne Enoch. It took me a minute to warm up to Persephone (the heroine) but by the end, I loved her. Solid four stars, recommend the whole series to those who love a good Highlanders fish out of water story.

I really liked Persephone. She’s a strong protagonist who knows who she is and treats those around her well. I enjoyed the dynamics of her relationship with Coll.
I also really enjoyed the relationships between the MacTaggart brothers. Across all three books in this series, Coll, Aden, and Niall have each other’s backs.
That said, this story let me a bit unsatisfied.
The pacing across all three books was a bit slow for my liking, but the stories were good enough to keep me reading. However, when I got to the end of this story, I felt like pages were missing. I was left with far too many questions.
For example, how do the two villains know each other? What was their connection? What was their motive? Was it just money? How did they imagine that playing out? And perhaps my biggest question: how did Caroline recognize Temperance when her own parents and cousin didn’t recognize her?
I also had difficulty accepting the resolution between Lord and Lady Aldriss. After 17 years, readers are supposed to believe a quick quasi-apology resolved everything? It was unsatisfactory. And the ending to this often slow book felt rushed.
I didn't have high hopes for this hero, from the previous books he seemed a little like his problem-solving consisted entirely of trying to Hulk smash the thing. He had more dimension in this book though, and actually grew into quite an appealing character. The heroine is a talented celebrity actress, with the benefits and problems that come with it. I enjoy when heroines have work of some sort, and I liked her more as it went along. She's a strong woman without being an absolute terror, (which somehow often gets conflated with strength). Overall it's a good cast of characters.
They spend a good portion of the book in the other's company, so I felt like they got to know each other well, and the two of them seem well suited together. And it felt like they really admired the strengths in the other, and were willing to accept some of the more challenging aspects. And saw the other for who they really were. All nice things, and quite a bit beyond simple attraction (though of course they have that too).
Tropes include bodyguard, forced proximity, secret heiress, and a bit of class-difference thrown in.
I think this book could stand on its own, but the books definitely build on each other, so they're probably best read in order. And I think this ended up being my favorite.

Coll is the oldest MacTaggert son, the heir and the oldest of 4 siblings. He is large and muscular and some people assume he is dumber than a box of rocks. He is not. He loves doing physical labor, he loves riding his very large horse and he enjoys a good fight.
His parents have lived apart for 17 years. The father, with his 3 sons, has lived in Scotland. The mother, with her daughter, has lived in London. The parents have been apart all these years because of pride. Pride runs in this family like the color of their eyes.
When the parents parted, there was an agreement. The eldest son and his two younger brothers must marry titled English ladies. This was to ensure their mother’s money would continue to come to support all the crofters who depend on the estate.
Now the sons are all in London looking for a wife. Coll is the only son who has not found a bride. He finds all the girls his mother introduces to him simply too young, too simpering and not at all interesting.
Until that is, he is back stage at a theater and comes to the rescue of the leading lady. Persephone Jones is a beautiful star, a talented actress and a woman with a brain. Coll is immediately smitten.
When Coll tells his mother he plans to marry an actress, there are repercussions. It would be a scandal, it would be a disaster, it would ruin his family’s reputation in London.
And Coll also is in protector mode. Someone is attempting to murder Persephone. There have been quite a few attempts on her life and each one seems to become more violent than the last.
Not only are these two people falling in love with one another, but they are also trying to find a person who has attempted murder.
I like Ms Enoch’s writing because there is always a depth to her stories. Her writing is filled with wonderful characters. They are people who are complete human beings. Her characters have humor and intelligence. That is a formidable combination.
The secondary characters in this book add a great deal to the story. There are quite a few supporting characters and each one helps the story move forward.
The reader gets to see the love within the MacTaggert family. As much as Coll says he wants to shock his mother, there is still a closeness in all of the family. The brothers are willing to do anything to protect one another. And no matter the dynamics and the power struggles, there is a great deal of affection in this family.
This plot is not filled with surprises. But, it is a good well written plot. The pace does not have any slow spots. Every thing moves along well.
Ms Enoch is a master at her Highland stories. Although this is part of a series, it works well as a stand alone read.
I enjoyed this book very much. Persephone and Coll are a wonderful couple.
I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley. I am voluntarily writing this review and all opinions are completely my own.
This is the last book in the trilogy. Wickedly seductive and hilariously funny this is the best book in the series.
Coll and Persephone make an ideal couple. When someone wants her dead Coll makes an ideal hero.
Suzanne Enoch has crafted an amazing story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and am leaving this review voluntarily.
There was more than romance in this story, there was family drama, a mystery, suspense and twists and turns. The plot was well written and interesting. The characters were fun and I look forward to more of this series.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Suzanne Enoch writes a delightful tale of a strongminded Highlander being blackmailed by his mother into marriage to an English bride.
I’ve read too many books lately by authors who insist on telling me the story with too much narrative from inside the characters’ heads. Enoch, however, SHOWS me the story through snappy dialogue, beautiful descriptions and fast-paced scenes. HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SCOT is the perfect type of tale in which to lose yourself.
This is the third and final title in Enoch’s Wild Wicked Highlanders with each title focused on a different brother’s quest to find his bride. I haven’t read the first two titles, but easily fell in love with brothers Niall and Aden and the entire MacTaggart clan — plus the family our heroine Persephone Jones creates for herself.
If you love proud Highlanders hiding hearts of gold and the strong-willed women who capture those hearts, you will love Coll’s and Persephone’s story.
Coll MacTaggert is the last one standing. His younger brothers have each found English brides, and that only leaves Coll to marry in the next month, or they’ll lose the money for their Scottish estate. But he has no interest in marrying, especially not to one of the debutantes too afraid to look him in the eye. So he tells his mother he’s going to wed a notorious actress instead.
The actress in question is Persephone Jones. While Coll didn’t mean it at first, he finds himself drawn to the extremely talented and bright woman. Even if he suspects she’s not who she claims to be. And when her past threatens her life, Coll knows he’ll do anything to protect her.
A satisfying conclusion to this series. Coll was kind of insufferably boorish in the previous books, so I wasn’t sure how he would be as a romantic lead. But of course Enoch gives him hidden depths. And Persephone is a wonderfully witty and captivating character.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for the ARC to review.
I received this book free for review as an ARC thanks to Netgalley & the publisher.
What a fun story to (I think) wrap up this series (I would be totally on board if there is a reunion book for the parents though)! I've really enjoyed this series as a whole, but I think this might be my favorite. The chemistry between Persephone & Coll is perfect and I loved the balance of humor and romance included in this book!
This is the final book in the MacTaggert brother series by this Author - Coll's story
Coll must marry an English woman within a month - but they take one look at the large , muscular
Scotsman and step back - who wants to marry a brutal Scot ?
Coll is becoming more frustrated , but the last thing he wants is for his mother to choose his bride .
On meeting actress Persephine Jones he strikes a deal with her - she will help teach him how to act like a civil young man and he will protect her from her admirers .
There is just one problem , Persephone is not who she appears to be and someone knows her secret and wants to kill her . Their attraction grows amidst their trials , can he keep her safe ? just who wants her dead ? can they have a HEA ?
The hilarious banter bewteen the couple adds to an enjoyable historical romance which I thoroughly enjoyed

Coll McTaggert, Viscount Glendarril has only four weeks to find an English wife, but he’s set against allowing his mother to make that decision for him and this is how he decides to stall by announcing he wants to marry Persephone Jones, the most celebrated actress of the time. As luck would have it, Persie is in need of a protector and will strike a bargain in exchange for Coll’s assistance.
After reading the other stories, stubborn, hard headed Coll proved to be my favorite McTaggert brother. A selfless protector by nature, devoted to his siblings and smart to boot, the eldest McTaggert is a great character and someone I’d like as a friend. Then he encounters his perfect match in the mysterious and secretive Mrs. Jones and will remain by her side until she finally agrees to share her long guarded secret.
This story is filled with intrigue, well written and quite entertaining. I really enjoyed it and it was a great diversion during these rather unusual holiday season.
Was given this book to read from NetGalley. Loved it, could not put it down. Suzanne Enoch is always a great read.
Kindly provided with an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review........
Wild, gusty and passionate !!!! Those are the words that popped into my mind when writing this review.
This was Coll and Persephone's story and what a cracking highland tale it was. Full of rivalry, drama, twist, turns and kilted mystery........thrilling from page 1 to the end !!!.
Absolutely compelling historical romance read !!!!
Well done Suzanne !! Many thanks for this opportunity xx
Later peeps xxx
Thoroughly enjoyable!
I loved this story of a burly Scotsman and his actress. It ended up being a book about family- both genetic and found. There were several parts that had me laughing out loud, and in the end, this was a satisfying read.
Suzanne Enoch has hit the mark with this series. The MacTaggert men are what romance readers are looking for in a good book! Coll and Persephone Jones story is no exception. The chemistry they share comes alive on the page. Readers will delight in following them on this adventure to love.
The third in a series of which I hadn’t read any 🙄, but I was able to keep up just fine. A new author for me, and I enjoyed her writing style, especially her humor.
This was a social class difference/secret identity/mystery plot, so a lot going on. 😂 It was a bit more 🔥🔥🔥 than most historical romance that I read, but great characters (especially the strong women) and yes, I’d definitely read more from this author.
My thanks to #StMartins and #NetGalley for providing me the free ARC. The opinions are strictly my own.
