I really enjoyed this book of the series, my favorite one by far, although each is a stand alone novel. The banter between Coll and Persie was very entertaining, I loved that it was set in a theater and felt that the author really captured the life of theater folk in this time frame. Coll at times was a bit too blunt which made him appear almost ignorant in a way of the English but I realize the author was trying to show the differences between his country life and her city life. the other characters in this story were very well written as well, you felt as if you got to know them a little and they factored in and meant something to the story line. Overall, very well written, strong story line and captures your interest.
I received an advanced copy in exchange for a review.
Coll is determined that he will find his own wife and thanks to his mother's edict he and his two brothers must do that before before his youngest sister weds. Coll is the only one left to merry/get engaged. That is where Persephone Jones comes in. I just love her name! She's an actress and has no interest in getting married.
Yet when he life in threatened Coll does what highlanders do best, protect what is theirs. Make no mistake she is his even of she doesn't want to be. I really enjoyed Coll, I know a lot of others didn't but there was something about him for me. I love that he domineering with Persephone as many heroes of tis time period would.
This was a quick read but one that I enjoyed. This is certainly my favorite book if the series.
Finally, finally, finally, we get Coll's story. Our Wild Wicked Highlanders series sort of went from youngest to oldest but finally, we get out obstinate, gruff, mountain of a Scot's story. Suzanne Enoch is always a win for me. Hit Me With Your Best Scot may not be my most favorite because, well, there's quite a backlog, but I did enjoy it immensely.
Coll is the last of the MacTaggert brothers to get married. His mother doesn't want him to fail in his mission to get wed before his sister, thus losing all the funding for their, well, everything. So, as moms are wont to do, she starts setting him up on... sort-of dates with eligible young ladies. In an effort to escape his mother's latest snare, Coll stumbles into the world of the theatre and thus into the orbit of the much sought-after famous actress, Mrs. Persephone Jones. Persephone Jones is famous, wealthy, independent, and wonderfully adept at her craft. Coll stumbles into being her hero when a gentleman caller gets a little too handsy. As the rumors spread, Coll finds them just the right tonic to keep his mother out of his business while he searches for Ms. Right. The problem is the undeniable connection he has with the beautiful Persephone and then the nasty business that someone seems to be out to kill her.
Persephone is a strong, independent character and I really liked her attitude towards life. She was sly and crafty, knew men were looking for basically one thing and used it against them- and I loved every second of it. I quite enjoyed the fact that both she and Coll recognized their mutual attraction and went about things like adults. No games, no annoying back and forth. What can I say? I'm a lover of simplicity. While Coll and Persephone's physical relationship was fairly... well... established, their feelings were more of a slow burn, which I rather liked. The mystery and discoveries were fun and entertaining. I do feel the plot was a bit protracted but this was the last in the series and I could understand the author wanted to hit all the marks, as it were.
As I said above, Suzanne Enoch is always a win for me. Hit Me With Your Best Scot was thoroughly entertaining. I definitely recommend the series for all those historical romance lovers out there.

Sighhhhhh (a satisfied sigh that is). I love a good ‘business proposition’ ‘I help you you help me’ deal kind of thing between two fictional characters that undoubtably leads to them falling in love, especially when it’s done so well... blissful sighhhhhh 😌
This was really good, I absolutely loved Coll and Perse’s story. They were witty and charming and I couldn’t help madly falling in love with both of them.
I loved the slow burn romance, the added mystery of the plot, and overall the message of finding true love where you’d least expect it, of finding acceptance where you’d least expect it. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Absolutely, a delightful read. Wonderful characters, lively banter and an intriguing well written story.
But don't read this a stand alone, because the previous 2, are wonderful too.
Time is running out for Coll MacTaggert who has but a few weeks left to find a London bride before his sister, Eloise's wedding or his mother will stop funding Aldriss Park. His brother's both found love, but he has no interest in the young women that his mother and sister set him up with. In a pique, he finds himself backstage at the Saint Genesius theater, where he meets "Mrs." Persephone Jones. With her, he finds someone who intrigues with her beauty, intelligence and wit. But she is an actress and he needs a lady. Or does he? After several "accidents", he is convinced that someone is out to kill her and he will not leave her unprotected.
I read an ARC provided by NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
This is the 3rd book in the series about the oldest McTaggert brother. I am sad to say I did not laugh at all. Nothing was humorous like in the 1st book. The writing became tedious. I did not like Persephone Jones. Coll changed drastically when he met her. He seemed docile around her not at all what he should of been. There was not give and take. It was all take on her part. I did not finish. I give it 3 stars cause I like the author and I liked the other 2 books. But this should of been a 1 star.
Wonderful story development, rich characters, and a plot that hooks you and never lets you go. I love it when I can immerse myself within a book and just forget about real life for awhile and “become” a part of the story. This book totally delivered!
I love this series so much and was thrilled to be able to read another one with Persephone Jones and Coll Mac Taggart. The lively conversations and the fun situations the two get into are truly inspirational. I enjoyed this book immensely and I highly recommend it to others who enjoy the genre. Great book!
This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you
Hit Me With Your Best Scot features an excellent romance between a man who refuses to marry on his mother's timetable and the entirely unsuitable woman who tempts him.
Coll MacTaggert, Viscount Glendarril, doesn't like being told what to do least of all by his English mother who insists he marries. But when Coll spots Persephone Jones backstage at the theatre, he's instantly smitten. Unfortunately for Coll, Persephone isn't interested in any man certainly not a hot-headed Scot like Coll. Despite her protests, Persephone finds herself drawn to Coll and begins falling for his charms. When Coll learns someone is after Persephone, that someone is intent on killing her for what she stands to inherit, he's determined to protect her.
The mystery surrounding Persephone's past is very well done and I won't spoil how she ended up an actress in London, but I found her backstory intriguing. Persephone is a strong woman, she's sure of herself and is open about what she can or cannot handle. I liked Persephone from the start and how well she knew herself. Coll is the eldest of his brothers and the last of them to remain unattached which has gotten his mother on his case about marrying. Coll is used to calling the shots for himself and he hates being told what to do. Coll relies on his strength and I liked his confidence in his abilities.
Persephone and Coll's relationship starts as instant attraction between the two which quickly deepens into more. Their chemistry is amazing and they have fantastic banter. I loved the playfulness of their relationship and how quickly they became friends. When their relationship turns physical, it was very steamy and fantastically done. I enjoyed watching Persephone and Coll work to figure out who was after Persephone as the two work well together. I was ultimately surprised by who was behind the threat's on Persephone's life. The resolution was so well done and I loved the setting for the final showdown.
Overall Hit Me With Your Best Scot was a fantastic read and I definitely plan to go back and read the first two books in the series, It's Getting Scot in Here and Scot Under the Covers, soon.
(2.5 rounded up)
I've read Enoch quite a while ago but since it has been a long, long time so I approached this read as I would a new author. While I wasn't completely confused, I do think reading the series in order would lead to a far richer experience for other readers. It was a relatively fast paced read, the story taking place over a short period of time along.
Coll was the stereotypical Scot that hates any and all things Sassenach. He stomps around a bit, engages in some fisticuffs, and meets his match in leading lady Persephone Jones. I wasn't his biggest fan, but I did see some great things about him within the relationship.
Persephone, an actress with a secret past, meets Coll backstage while he is in the process of avoiding his absentee mother's matchmaking attempts. Strong, independent, and quick witted, Persephone was enjoyable to follow. It isn't terribly often I read a historical with an experienced heroine so it was a nice treat to have a leading lady that treated intimacy as something to be enjoyed and not forbidden. Even better, she has a cat with devilish tendencies! I'm a big fan of pets sneaking their way into my historical romances.
I loved that Coll was respectful of Persephone and, while growly, still treated her like a partner rather than a silly damsel whose wishes can be trod over.
The drama surrounding Persephone detracted from the romance for me. As it was, I was really surprised by the intimate seen sneaking in at 30% with little sexual tension built up before hand. The relationship, while certainly plenty of attraction and lust, left me feeling like something was missing. Maybe I needed more of that tension before they got it on.
Overall, this was an odd read for me. I enjoyed it well enough, but I found myself putting it down and picking up other books regularly. Honestly, it took me almost a full month to read it which is unusual. I suspect if I was more invested in the series I would have been a bit more into Coll and Persephone's HEA but as it stands I am largely neutral toward it.
Thanks to Netgalley for this ARC. I will definitely be looking for more from Suzanne Enoch. I really enjoyed this. I loved the MacTaggart family, and especially Coll because he was the focus of this story. The humor exhibited in most of the family interactions was so fun and started fairly early on with a description of a stuffed deer that Coll and his brothers had transported to London when they’d traveled from Scotland. While in Scotland it had “stood proud and dignified in a corner of the library, with a suit of armor on either side of him. Now, after being loaded into a pair of wagons with most of their belongings and every other damned thing they could think of to bring to London that might annoy their mother, Rory (the deer) was adorned with a skirt around his hind quarters, a bonnet with holes cut for his ears, a man’s cravat around his neck, earbobs and necklaces hung from the tines of his antlers, and a dancing slipper bound to his one raised hoof.”
Not long after that, there was a scene between Persephone and Coll with Gavin, Coll’s groom. Persephone had agreed to tutor Coll in how to win over an English lady. Gavin was called upon to act as her lady’s maid for the reenactment. “Muttering under his breath, the groom seemed to collapse into himself. Shoulders slumped in utter defeat, he stomped over to stand beside her. ‘I dunnae ken how to be a lady’s maid,’ he grumbled.” Of course, before it was over, Gavin had embraced his role completely and was smacking Coll with a fan for acting improperly toward Persephone, shrieking, “Put Miss Charlotte down, ye fiend!”
The three brothers were sarcastic and teasing with one another, but everyone in the family, including Persephone, seemed to be quick-witted with a dry sense of humor. After Coll goes through a long-winded explanation of why he did something, his brother Aden responds, “Ye might have said ‘chivalry’ though, and nae use up all yer words for the day.” The comparisons between London society and the Scottish highlands were funny, but I thought this observation was quite good: “...London, where people were civilized and family only tried to stab a relation in the back, not in the front.”
Ultimately, the story, despite its intrigue and mystery, came down to Coll and Persephone. The two of them made a formidable couple, both passionate and of exceptional intelligence, intuitiveness, survival instincts, and of course, stubbornness. It was obvious that they would end up together, and getting there was an awful lot of fun. I’m very interested in reading more from this series.
Coll is forced to London to wed an English Lass because his father signed an agreement with his runaway mother 17 years before. Even worse he has marry before his sister does to maintain the mothers money, money which keeps their tenants going and allows Coll to make up for slow years. His sister marries in four weeks. He struggles to find a lady that does faint at his missteps until he finds actress Persephone Jones. She does not whimper or faint at his size or brogue but she is not fully honest either, however, her life is in danger and Coll feels determined to protect her.
I really enjoyed this read and the relationship between Coll and Persephone. I also really liked the added character towards the end and how they impact the story!
Really enjoyed this entire series!
I literally don't know what to say. This didn't really impact me-positively or negatively. I was pretty bored the whole time. And I never connected with Persephone or Coll: as individuals or as a couple. It's kind of sad because I really liked the second book in this series and was so excited for this one. I would have done two stars, but Francesca is great and I did connect with her. So, she gets the book an extra star.
The third in the series but I read it easily as a standalone having not read the previous books in the series.
There were aspects of the book that I enjoyed a lot. Persephone was a unique character for a regency heroine. She was an actress with experience of men. She is a woman of independent means and is not after a wealthy man or a title. I liked the banter between herself and Coll and I thought it quite endearing when she tried to teach him about how to approach marriageable ladies of the ton.
The story is a bit slow in places and my reading was made slower with Persephene's awkward name to pronounce in my head. The author also uses a lot of non-standard spelling for speech to show attention to the Scottish accent and so my head had to process a whole lot of naes, ye, yer, havenae, willnae, dunnae and what not which I found a bit distracting.
I did enjoy the ending as there was quite a bit of drama and humour. I didn't guess who the would-be killer was until it was revealed.
This was an enjoyable enough read and I have awarded 3 1/2 stars.
Hit Me With Your Best Scot is the third and final book in the Wild Wicked Highlanders series by Suzanne Enoch. The MacTaggert brothers have one task, to find English brides or lose their land! Two out of three have found love, but the oldest is still holding out. I do recommend reading this in order, as a series. While the individual romance does stand fine enough alone, the inside jokes and characters are much more interesting to those that have the bigger picture.
Coll MacTaggert, Viscount Glendarril, is a big, brawny Highlander who doesn’t like being told what to do—not even by his exasperated English mother who is determined to see her eldest son wedded and bedded. However, when he comes to the rescue of an irresistibly beautiful woman, Coll discovers that he may have found his perfect match. The challenge isn’t that Persephone Jones is famous, wealthy, independent, and smarter than anyone he knows. The problem is that she isn't interested in marrying any man—especially not a hot-headed Scot—even if he is the only man who seems to understand who she really is even when she’s not sure herself. When Coll learns that Persephone is actually a lady-in-hiding and someone is willing to kill her for what she stands to inherit. Well, Coll has never been one to turn down a fight. When hearts are involved, nothing comes between a Highlander and his lady.
Hit Me With Your Best Scot is exactly what I was hoping for to finish off this trilogy. Coll and Persephone are both complex characters, not what everyone expects them to be, and I think that is why the are so drawn to each other. I really enjoyed the wit that both displayed, and found them to be characters that I could root for right away. The drama and danger surrounding Persephone was very well done, as was the emotional conflicts they both faced about who they are and the future. I really love seeing strong minded characters like these come together ad find a happy middleground rather than having one throw away their history or plans without a care. This makes me enjoy a story so much more, and while not every question about the future is answered, the was they will make decisions together is. As usual, the secondary characters were just as interesting and complex as the main players and I enjoyed trying to figure out the mystery right along side our couple. I think that fans of the author, and this series in particular, will be very happy with this read.
Hit Me With Your Best Scot is a historical romance with a good blend or humor, emotion, and danger. I am sad to see the series come to an end.
I just love this book.
I love the story so much that I had to buy a copy of this book right away.
I do highly recommend.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Great book. It has me laughing throughout the book. This is the third installment of the Wild Wicked Highlanders series. So far, I think this is the best book in the series. You, as the reader, want to root for the hero. In the end, it is not what you will expect.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ out of 5
Who doesn’t love a big highlander taking on the ton to find a wife but ends up scaring all the misses? I eat this trope up and can’t get enough! This is the last book in a trilogy (all can be read as standalones) and I’m sad to see the end as I’ve really enjoyed it.
Our hero has 4 weeks to find an English bride or else his family estate loses funding. However, quite by accident he becomes acquainted with an actress who is not at all like the English misses of the ton and he is utterly entranced. When our heroine (the actress) starts having threats made against her life our hero steps in as her protector (maybe in more ways than one 😉).
I have to admit I’m not the biggest fan of lord hero falls for the actress, but this was executed so well and I was rooting for them the whole time! The hero was more than just a burly highlander and I was so here for the actress heroine who takes what she wants in a world that gives no power to women. The ending left me wanting more and for those that have read this- you know what I mean!
