What a fabulous story! The perfect ending to this total fish-out-of-water series of 3 highland brothers forced to marry English ladies by their estranged mother. If they want their Scottish properties to continue to be funded by their mother the Countess of Aldress with her Oswell family funds they must marry who she approves. She struck the deal with her husband when Angus MacTaggart wouldn't hear of her spending some time home in London. The previous 2 books covered the two younger brothers, Alden & Niall. This is Coll's story, the Viscount of Glendarril's story of rebellion. It was a thrilling journey filled with surprises.
Coll is furious to be forced to have to marry especially a hothouse English rose. He's beyond hurt that his mother abandoned him at 12 and took his baby sister to London with no word from her since. Now she wants a relationship 17 years later and expects him to marry simpering English miss! No way will he be forced to accept her choice. In rebellion he tells her he's going to marry a commoner, an actress hoping she'll let him out of the contract. This is when we meet Persephone Jones, toast of London. He meets her when he retreats backstage to get away from his mother and the latest 2 ladies thrown at him at the theatre. He comes to her aid when Percie's latest benefactor expects bedroom time in exchange for his gifts. She and Coll make a deal, she'll help him find a bride if he'll keep the zealous male fans at arm's length. It soon become apparent that someone is trying to kill Percie and Coll's is determined to protect her and find out who. Of course they fall in love spending so much time together. Percie has secrets she's keeping and someone is trying to kill her.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I am in love with this series and although Colt and Persie's romance did not win me over, other elements were inserted in order to bring dynamics and tension and i like them.
The mysteries about the attacks on Persie were very well placed and made me anxious to find out who the wrongdoer was.
The interaction between the brothers continued to be highlighted and a surprise that appears almost at the end was great to cheer me up for the next books in the series, as I am rooting for Eloise's book that she leaves her fool fiance and
I really wanted mature romance focused in their parents.
I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley. All opinions are my own. Hit Me with your Best Scot by Suzanne Enoch is the third book in her delightful Wild Wicked Highlanders Series. I think that you should read the books in order to get the most enjoyment from this book. Coll MacTaggert, Viscount Glendarril, is running out of time to find an English bride. His original plan to find a compliant bride he could marry and then leave behind when he returns to Scotland seems to be less attractive now that his brothers have made matches with women they love. Escaping his mother’s matchmaking machinations leads him to hide out backstage at a theatre where he meets actress Persephone Jones who is the most intelligent, attractive and intriguing woman he’s ever met, but definitely not one his mother would accept as a bride. Witty banter, a dangerous mystery and strong supporting characters made this book one I enjoyed immensely. Steam Level: Medium. Publishing Date: February 9 , 2021 #NetGalley #HitMeWithYourBestScot #SuzanneEnoch #HistoricalRomance #HistoricalRomanceSeries #WildWickedHighlanders #StMartinsPress #StMartinsPaperbacks #bookstagram #bookstagrammer
Another great addition to this series. I was eager to get a hold of Coll's story. You simply knew he was carrying a burden. It took me a bit to realize since he was the oldest, his relationship (or lack thereof) with his mother had made more of an impact. Then when he meets Persephone (Persie), it's evident he's met his match. I found it amusing that he doesn't fully realize it himself yet. I always enjoy a trope where they each think they are getting "something" from an agreement. I thought this book had a clever twist with handling that. Coll and Persie make an "arrangement," but things changed.....
As I often find myself, I'm hesitant to say much because there are a few things that happened in this book that I don't want to ruin for the reader. I'll just say, if you enjoy a stubborn highlander and a clever woman, you'll find that these two are a great match. Throw in some family drama and nosey siblings and it's a recipe for success.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to review it and the opinions within are my own.
If you enjoy belligerent Highlanders out to prove their Sassenach mother wrong to have left her three sons behind and then demand they marry English brides you’ll find them in this historical romance! Luckily for them, the two younger brothers have both met and fallen in love with English ladies but Coll MacTaggert is fed up with her attempts at matchmaking and parading eligible young ladies before him every time they go out. He’s adamant he can find his own wife but he never thought he’d do so going backstage at a theatrical performance!
This is a story packed with surprises, deadly peril, steamy romance, and multiple attempts at murder. It is a page turner where you’re not sure where the next assassination attempt will be made – or how to thwart it. As Coll endeavours to keep his new love safe, the protocols of society could force them apart. However, she has an even bigger secret and that could be the cause of the attempts but can she trust anyone with her secret?
Intriguing historical romance with plenty of pig-headedness on the parts of many characters, but a story that shows that family comes first for the MacTaggert brothers and they’ll work together to protect anyone who they care about.
Thank you to St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for my copy of this book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.
I liked Coll in book 2 and felt his frustration with his parents and the "marry an Englishwoman" edict in that and this book. Here he reluctantly succumbs to his fate and frantically starts his search for a bride.
The story is fast paced with good and humorous dialog, which often had me broadly grinning. I found this to be a very entertaining read.
I read an ARC I received via NetGalley; the thoughts expressed are my own.
Coll MacTaggert is a Scotsman not to be messed with. He has a fiery temper and the physique to follow through and he's almost always looking for a fight. His titled English mother wants to see him married as soon as possible.
He meets Persephone, famous actress and all around man killer, and decides that SHE is the woman he wants to wed. But she has promised never to marry, and certainly never to a hot headed Scot. When Coll finds out Persephobe's secret he determines to save her from someone set on killing her.
This is my second Suzanne Enoch book and there was a lot to like about this story. Coll is a delightful Scottish hero, very masculine and alpha but with a heart of gold. And Persephone is a strong woman who won't let any man ruin her plans.
But this definitely felt a little zany, a lot of antics thrown into the plot that didn't leave much room for subtlety. And the romance felt a bit rushed without as much anticipation as I wanted.
And Enoch's writing style is a bit hard for me, I'm not a huge fan of writing a Scottish brogue phonetically for the entire course of the book.
This was a fun read, but not without its flaws. If you're looking for a fast paced, Scottish romance with a strong heroine and some zany plot points this might be the book for you.
Arc provided by Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
The conclusion to Enoch's Wild Wicked Highlanders trilogy brings in yet another tough damsel in distress--actress Persephone Jones, to whom the fearsome and stubborn Coll MacTaggart claims to be betrothed. He's trying to get his mother's goat for the trick that she played on him and his brothers, but he makes a deal with Persie to protect her from someone who clearly wishes her harm while continuing to search for a bride. But his actress has secrets--and more danger than she knows. And since her only damsel-like qualities present themselves on stage, Coll finds quickly that, farce or not, a connection with her is exactly what he wants as long as he can keep her alive long enough to convince her of the same.
I enjoyed Coll's book and the added depth it gave to his otherwise rather brutish character. Persephone was every bit his match, and readers will enjoy their growing feelings, their quick chemistry, and the witty repartee. There are a few dangling threads of plotlines that I felt could have used more attention, but over all, Hit Me With Your Best Scot was a fine entertainment.
What a great ending to the Highlander brothers finding women they fell in love with. Coll is the last to find his love and he fought it as he didn’t want to be told what to do, especially from a mother that formed a contract with their father that the brothers needed to each marry an English woman before their sister so they would receive the money they badly needed for Aldriss Park in Scotland. He now has four weeks to succeed. Mrs. Persephone Jones is an actress who is also in danger. As his mother is determined to find him a wife, he escapes and seeks to meet the actress Persephone and ends up saving her from a pushy admirer. As Coll is attracted to her, will he be able to protect her and will his family accept her. I enjoyed this three book series. I received a free copy from Netgalley/St. Martins and this is my honest review.
Finally, we get to the eldest MacTaggert sibling, Coll. His issue? He’s set his sights on an actress. Not a terrible thing for a Scot but as Lord Glendarril, an actress as a wife is out of the question. What a scandal that would be.
I loved the heat between Coll and Persephone. I kept wondering where Suzanne could possibly be going with their relationship. Surely, Coll can’t marry an actress. My mind kept turning over the idea that she’s secretly someone else. But that wouldn’t matter because she’s still an actress, right? Well, I was certainly kept guessing. And with someone trying to kill Persephone, there’s another mystery to solve. My mind reeled until the very end!
5 stars!
What fun!
The clock is ticking as Eloise's wedding date closes in as Coll MacTaggert, Viscount Glendarril still needs to find and marry an English bride to fulfil his mother's request. At stake, is the loss of funding to keep Aldriss Park, the family home in the highlands afloat. Now, it is time for the eldest son to follow his younger brothers' and find a woman to marry!
Determined not to marry one of the “hothouse flowers” his mother, Lady Aldriss recommends, Coll MacTaggert is both strong willed, pragmatic and motivated to accomplish the task before the looming deadline. In record speed, he finds an English woman. Only, she's not a lady, she's an actress and a widow.
Persephone Jones is an actress and widow. A resourceful woman, she's hiding a secret and not your average historical heroine.
“...when two strong people met, one of them had to bend. And bending didn't mean losing. It only meant finding a different path”.
Ms Enoch has written a captivating historical romp with lashings of humour! The blend between London society and the wild men of the highlands is an addictive. Kilt wearing Coll MacTaggert, a giant of a man finds what he wants while navigating theatre-land. The result is an unlikely match, but not everything in the world is as it seems.
The tale of the three brothers' comes full circle and although the plot continues from book to book, each brother's story can be enjoyed as standalone. Therefore, while I heartily recommend reading the whole series, Coll's journey to a happy ending is as good a place to start.
Overall, a fabulous finale to a series leaving me wondering which one of the Wild Wicked Highlanders I would choose myself?

I received a copy of Hit Me With Your Best Scot from Netgalley. I was very excited since while I'm not a super huge fan of historical romance books, I do have a soft spot in my heart for Scottish male leads.
That being said I knew I was in trouble from the first couple of chapters in this story. The story didn't pull me in and leave me wanting to continue to read. The story starts off with Coll storming out of a play where his mother had set up another round of dates for him. He knows he only has a couple of weeks to marry before his family loses their land, but marrying someone who he doesn't love is looking less and less appealing. When he leaves he ends up backstage and meeting Persephone Jones. She's the one everyone wants and when he comes to her rescue one night they both find themselves enamored by each other.
I don't want to go into much more since I don't want to give away spoilers. I will say there are attempts of murder on Persephone and Coll stepping in to protect her and then quickly falling for each other.
There isn't much I liked about this story other than the idea behind it. The book just dragged on and on endlessly for me and it made it painful for me to continue trudging through the story without simply skimming over large portions of this book.
The characters and romance simply felt less and less interesting and less and less sincere. Persephone seemed to constantly be playing a role when with Coll and I never truly felt like she had any real feelings for him. Coll seemed smitten early on and it made sense when his feelings for her grew from attraction and interest to more.
That being said the whole story was bogged down by endless descriptions, inner useless dialogue, secrets that dragged down the plot rather than moving it along, and plot points continuously being repeated to death.
I did not enjoy this story at all but that does not mean the book isn't good, it just wasn't for me.
Rating: 1.5
Coll MacTaggert, Viscount Glendarril, is a big, brawny Highlander who does not like being told what to do. His mother keeps parading eligible ladies his way in an effort to see him wedded. When he escapes her latest attempts, he meets a woman who intrigues him. She may just be his perfect match.
The beautiful Persephone Jones is famous, wealthy, independent, and smart. The problem is she's not interested in marrying anyone. But Coll is the first man interested in her and not whatever character she's playing.
Coll becomes her protector in an effort to spend time with her. When it becomes clear that someone is out to hurt Persie, he learns she is a lady in hiding and that someone might actually be trying to kill her in order to collect her inheritance.
He won't let anything come between him and his lady.
I love a good broody Highlander and Coll does not disappoint. Now I need to go grab the other books in this series.
Thanks so much to St.Martin's Press, NetGalley, and the author for this ARC to review.
I loved this series since the first pages and loved it till the last page.
I had a lot of fun and I'm a bit sad to say goodbye to this fleshed out and quirky characters that made laugh and root for them.
This is the excellent last installment and it's as entertaining as the others.
I can't wait to read another book by Suzanne Enoch as I love her style of writing.
This book is strongly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Coll, Viscount Glendarril was a larger than life character. At first it seemed as though he let his physical appearance do the talking but he was actually a very intelligent man. Persephone Jones was an intelligent woman, who was a superb actress. She was also valued her independence. They did have a very strong attraction but Coll’s family wouldn’t want him to marry an actress. Coll did need to marry to save his tenants. This story moved along at a good pace, it had amusing banter, dangerous events and engaging characters. A very entertaining read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.5 stars
Though I have not read the previous books in the series, I now want to.
Coll MacTaggart does not want to marry the women his mother continuously throws at him. When he escapes their theater box for some peace, he ends up backstage. There he meets the loveliest woman he has seen his entire time in London. Little does he know that she is an actress off stage, as well as on.
Persephone Jones loves the theater, and is very talented. What she doesn't love is the men pawing after her attentions. She also has a very big secret, that she has no desire to reveal. When Coll sees the real woman, not the myriad of masks she wears, she knows she is in big trouble.
I love both of our characters. They were easy to root for. Though their relationship was a bit faster than I wanted it to be, it did work, because Coll was on a timeline from his mother.
The writing was splendid. Tying in Shakespeare to the story, as well as Macbeth, and all of the superstition behind it, it worked marvelously for me. Then again, I am a bit of a Shakespeare nut.
This was also my first Suzanne Enoch, and I will definitely be reading more in the future!
I enjoyed this story. Coll and Persephone were meant for each other. I loved her independent spirit, her intelligence, and her caring nature. Coll was so sweet and protective, though his temper was a bit volatile. There was plenty of intrigue and danger witty banter, and steamy encounters, and how his family was so supportive, with a little resistance from his mother, made the story entertaining. I recommend this story.
I received an ARC through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.
HJ Top Pick!
Hit Me With Your Best Scot is the third book in the Wild Wicked Highlanders. This has been a fantastic series and I was so excited to finally read Coll’s story. The MacTaggert family has been so entertaining and with this series, I’ve found it best to start with the first book and read them in order to get the best experience.
It all began when Angus MacTaggert, Earl of Aldriss, went to England to find a wealthy bride. He married Francesca and moved her to Scotland, but she did not care for Scotland and missed the excitement of London. Eventually, she moved back to London with her daughter and left their three sons in Scotland with Angus to raise. Francesca’s family had tied up all her money when they got married, so she controlled everything. When she left Scotland, she agreed to continue funding the Aldriss estates as long as her sons married an English woman before their sister got married. The series begins with the men reluctantly traveling to London to see their mother after seventeen years with no contact. They were not pleased when they discovered the arrangement their parents had made.
Coll MacTaggert, Viscount Glendarril, and his brother’s thought they could cause enough trouble that Francesca would change her mind about the agreement. If that did not work, Coll’s plans were to marry some English woman, get his heir, then leave her in England while he returned to Scotland. He has four weeks to find a woman to marry and is still frustrated with his mother for forcing him to marry to save his family’s estates. After escaping his mother and her guests at the theater, he finds himself behind the stage rescuing an actress. Persie was independent, smart, full of wit, and possibly the perfect woman for him. Coll, who had teased his brothers for falling in love instantly, found himself in the same situation.
Mrs. Persephone “Persie” Jones was a well-known actress in London. Although she appreciated Coll’s help with an aggressive gentleman, she knew Coll was trouble. But when her life is at risk from all the “coincidental” accidents, she proposes to help Coll secure a wife if he will help her. As more attempts on her life are made, she’s forced to reveal her real identity to Coll. She finds herself falling for Coll but knows that he could never marry an actress.
The book was easy to read, beautifully written, and flowed smoothly. It was fast-paced and the storyline and characters had many layers and were developed. It was a book that pulls you in and you want to keep reading more and more. The intrigue, twists and turns, and mystery are enough to keep you on the edge of your chair. The ending was unpredictable and really surprised me. I think this series has become my favorite one by the author. The MacTaggert men were swoon-worthy, bold, full of mischief, and had hearts of gold.
I loved Coll and Persie’s amazing love story in Hit Me With Your Best Scot by Suzanne Enoch, book three in her Wild, Wicked Highlanders series. The MacTaggert brothers learned only recently that the eldest must marry or they would lose their ancestral estate. The eldest, Coll, has refused to be interested, let alone marry, any woman their mother selected for him. This brawny, stubborn Highlander does not like to be told what to do. When Coll comes to rescues of a beautiful woman, he just might have found his match. Persephone, Persie, Jones is famous, wealthy, independent, intelligent, and might be the perfect challenge to Coll. Persie is not interested in marry any man, especially the hot-headed Scot who understands who she really is; even if she is not sure herself. Coll is the first person Persie confides in about her actual past. She was a wealthy lady who left everything, after her parents accepted a marriage proposal from an abusive man, old enough to be her father. When Coll discovers someone is trying to kill Persie for what she is to inherit, he decides to be her protector, bodyguard. Nothing will come between this Highlander and his lady once their hearts are involved.
I loved how strong and independent Persie was; never expecting to return to her old life. There was so much more to Coll than was shown in the earlier books of this series and early in this one. He might have been stubborn, but he was passionate about those he cared for and his family. He did not like seeing people being mistreated wrongly; whether it was correct or not, he was going to interfere to make things right.
Ms. Enoch wrote an emotionally rich and moving story transporting her readers to historical London and a peek at the Highlands. She provided a tale rich with sexual chemistry, amusing banter, and endearing characters that are not to be missed. I found both Coll and Persie loveable, stubborn heroes, unwilling to settle for less than each other. I highly recommend Hit Me With Your Best Scot to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for the complimentary electronic copy of Hit me with Your Best Scot by Suzanne Enoch. A delightful Regency romance. I voluntarily agreed to read and review this delightful Regency novel. My opinions are my own, and nothing has influenced my rating of this book.
Hit me with Your Best Scot is a well-written romantic tale set in Regency London with compelling characters and a satisfying plot. The pacing pulled me into the story from the first page to the last. Ms. Enoch does a fine job of giving me enough description to become enmeshed in the glittering society of this period.
Persephone Jones is the heroine of this romance, and she has plenty of grit which has helped her thrive in the theatre world of Drury Lane. She holds her secrets tight and doesn’t give many clues to them. I found her fascinating and enjoyed her character a great deal. She’s definitely a woman ahead of her time, but life has made her that way.
Coll MacTaggert, Viscount Glenarril is a fantastic hero who only wants to do the right thing for the people of his clan, dependent on him. He’s come to London to satisfy his mother who has tied up much needs funds for the clan. She’s demanded he take a bride, and if he doesn’t find one soon it will have dreadful consequences. When he meets Persephone, he is entranced, and it was clear where the story would lead. After all, it’s romance, so that predictability did not take away from my reading enjoyment.
The romance between Persephone and Coll is combustible from their first meeting. While I loved this, the romance does develop between them at lightning speed, so while I did enjoy their love story, I would have preferred it to develop over a longer period of time to make it more believable. I also would have enjoyed a bit more sexual tension between the main characters, which Regency romances are so well known for, and this is the only reason I did not give this novel a top rating.
If you enjoy Regency romances with characters that will take you on a sensual romp between the sheets and has an intricately woven plot, then you will love Hit me with Your Best Scot. There’s plenty going on in this tale to love. It’s been some time since I’ve read one of Ms. Enoch’s books, and I’m glad I accepted the invitation from the publisher. I will look at the other two books in this series, since this one is the conclusion, and I found the other two MacTaggert brothers and their lady loves intriguing. Happy reading!
