This book drew me in with its title right away. I was interested in finding out some ways to change my self-talk a bit for the better, even while doing something so simple as enjoying my coffee! It is written in a casual, conversational tone and starts by bringing up the importance of self-talk. What is it, why is it important, and how can you fix yours if it's not positive? Kristen gives you ideas for mindfully enjoying your drink by taking the time to really notice and taste it. While doing this, she encourages you to speak some powerful affirmations out loud to start getting your brain to think in this direction and leave negativity behind. Many aspects of self talk and mindfulness how-tos are given chapters to explore them more in depth.
Coffee Self-Talk appealed to me as I am a coffee lover, and I have some experience with self talk having suffered from anxiety myself. After recent events with the pandemic I felt I could do with a refresher on this. I loved the way the author explained everything, from what is self talk, to how to create a habit with self talk, and applying it daily. There even is a section for those of us who complain we have no time.
This book explains on how to get started with some lovely examples on how to create your script, from beginning to more detail. The author then shares her own script for us to see.
I liked how she explained we can use emojis and bold/italics on our script as some people are visual learners they will associate that emoji with the affirmation.
I would say having previous experience in self talk the book did show me I was in 'neutral thoughts' and I needed to up my game.
I liked the way the author also touched on different parts of our life that can affect our self talk, for example social media and family/friends and how to be ruthless about who to spend your time with. I needed to read that just now.
The book can be repetitive at times but I get that is what is needed when starting something new and re training the brain and I liked how the author explained that to us.
The book although serious can be whitty too, it made me laugh a few times with the 'I am sexy, radiant, glowing and juicy' affirmation, her use of words 'amaze-balls' and the odd swear word kept the humour in the book and kept me reading.
As someone who is studying to become a Style Coach this book really benefited me as I will be meeting people from all walks of life and I would definitely recommend this book to those who need it.
This book really wasn't for me. I don't think I gained anything from reading it, it was just the same things I have read before without learning anything or adding anything to the conversation.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with this book!
I've been in a mood to change up the type of books I read and this seemed like a fun one! I drink coffee/tea every day so I thought, why not! Many of the tips in here are pretty easy to implement; a lot of it was affirmations. For those that look for constant ways to keep things positive and find the silver lining in everything, this is easy to do.
The author was relatable and this was an easy quick read.
Kristen Helmstetter introduces a 5 minute method, so called coffee self-talk, which is a process with results that feel almost miraculous, and that anyone can do.
Through this process you will experience a transformation, find your focus and inner spirit. You will become happier and in love with your life.
This is powerful, life-changing routine that takes only 5 minutes per day. It's combination of classic self-talk, plus awesome affirmations and inspiring words. And, of course, coffee. :)
So start now, everyone can do it!
This book is such a lovely idea. Have started dipping in and out of it and it is a part of my day that I look forward to.
