Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.

When six people travel to Whisper Island to work on their art, they don't expect to die.

I read this book quickly. I must say, it was very engaging and dark, which I personally enjoy. There were six narratives and they all twisted around one another with hidden truths and dark secrets. As more people die on the secluded island, the struggle to discover the murderer begins, and so does the guesswork.

My biggest issue with this book is a small one: the use of the word "doughy." Everyone had a doughy face, which bothered me immensely. Doughy isn't attractive or cute. It reads more as slovenly and unkempt or even unattractive, but all of the characters are supposedly attractive. I wish the author could have found better adjectives.

Meh.

I wanted so much to love this book. The title and description were so intriguing and it sounded like just my book.

Unfortunately, it was underwhelming.

While the setup and premise are great, the characters are so incredibly immature. It wasn’t just that I didn’t like them (though I didn’t). It got to the point that I really didn’t care if they died. I was mildly curious about the why, but the who was obvious quickly. I also spent wayyyyy too much time wondering why people were lusting after the drug-addicted cheater pizza boy. Did. Not. Get.

The final confrontation was kind of silly and the end of the book even sillier.

I finished the book. Normally, if I can get through it and finish it, it rates a 3 star for me, but I really can’t recommend this one.

Sometimes it’s hard to navigate stories with a lot of characters. This one has several students going to do art in Alaska but things turn deadly quick. There’s a lot of storytelling and character building before we see action but that’s ok. It turns into a creepy thriller. I can understand the mixed reviews and I’d rate this a 3 star book.

2.5 Stars

With vibes of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie Whisper Island had a wonderful setting for a creepy mystery...a run down house on a desolate island. BUT...If you're gonna write an updated version of an Agatha Christie plot you better make sure it is done exactly right. Unfortunately this book didn't hit its mark and wasn't for me.

Despite having each chapter from a single character's perspective, which I love, they all seemed one dimensional and all were extremely unlikable. I did like the writing style as it made the book an easy read but the pace was a little slow and the action took a long time to come.

I wouldn't take this as a negative review because I would definitely read another book by this author. I have read many of her works and enjoyed them. This one just seemed to be more for the college crowd or could be considered a Young Adult or New Adult version of the Christie classic.

This thriller started off really slowly, but definitely got way better the more I got into it. It didn’t completely wow me. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.

A new adult thriller - four friends and two guests head out to Alaska for a little vacation but only one leaves.

This was enjoyable and fast paced but a tad predictable (it was clear who was the murderer and the storyline). This was structured by having each Character speak from their perspective while moving the story forward.

It’s like if “The Guest List” & “A Cabin in the Wood” had a book baby. Certainly worth the read.

Locked room mysteries are my favorite genre to read and this one did not disappoint. I loved the setting and uncovering everyone’s secrets.

DNF

I couldn’t take the liberal use of italics. When we are in a characters POV, their thoughts should already be included, why are the emphasized so much? I couldn’t take the inner dialogue. It made it feel more of a amateur fiction book

A mostly satisfying mystery with a young-adult twist. Four art school friends decide to take a getaway to Whisper Island, Alaska for three months of painting and creating. However, it quickly becomes apparent that they are not alone on the mysterious island and one by one the bodies start stacking up.

This was definitely a slow burn to start with. Despite a lot of character building amongst the friends, I struggled to differentiate between the girls. Several times I had to flip back to the start of the chapter to remind myself which character I was reading perspective from. It wasn't until almost half way through that I settled into the story and the characters came to life (so to speak). From that point the story flowed much better, and despite the fact I pegged the ending very early on, it was still a highly enjoyable read. Each girl had her own secrets. Each held animosity towards the others and when the sabotage and paranoia took over, I was hooked.

Slow start but highly addictive.

Thanks to Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and Netgalley for my ARC.

The title is apt and compelling, as is the premise. The book is narrated by the various characters which I really like. Dripping with atmosphere and suspense, this story follows four young female artist friends who decide to spend three months on an isolated island, devoting time to their art. Each young woman has a dark past. Upon arrival to the island they discover two others there, a brother to one of the girls and his girlfriend. Sinister things start happening immediately. No one is exempt from the horrors.

While the suspense and twists enthralled me and were well written, I often felt this book (excluding the adult language) should be geared more toward young adults. "Closed room" murder stories are amongst my favourites and this had many qualities to enjoy as mentioned above. However, perhaps because the characters were all young and immature, it didn't engage me somehow. But that ending...loved it!

Young adult fans of suspense and thrillers would likely really enjoy this. I did for the most part, just not the characters.

My sincere thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this suspenseful book in exchange for an honest review. Much appreciated.

Riley, Sam, Mia and Scarlett travel to Whisper Island for a once in a lifetime adventure, but things immediately start to go wrong. Sammy’s drug addict brother and his girlfriend Opal unexpectedly turn up, and then people start dying... As the dream trip turns into a nightmare, the group wonder if they are alone on the island or if a killer is hiding and preying on them. As each of the girls reveals a dark secret about themselves, it becomes apparent that the killer may be closer than anyone thinks... A thrilling and tense tale that keeps you guessing until the end. Lots of twists and turns. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.

I was kindly given an ARC of this book by NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Whisper island seems like the perfect destination for four art students to spend their summer to get a chance to focus on their art.

The four girls are offered the chance to stay for free, what more could students want than a picturesque island with no distractions for free?

This is a creepy thriller with twists you will not see coming and a couple of throwbacks to teen horror films.

It is good fun!

I agree with reviewers who felt like this skewed a bit YA. I love that genre, but it wasn't what I was expecting for this book. The main characters were too unlikable (and their voices sounded the same to me), and in the beginning, I kept having to remind myself who was narrating each chapter. Ultimately, it wasn't a fit for me.

Not quite what I was expecting. Plot and characters developed in a 'younger' way than I anticipated. Ideal for fans of YA mysteries.

I couldn’t put this one down. Nothing novel, but nevertheless compelling. Wasn’t surprised by the ending, but then surprised by the final twist.

Love love love this book. It had all the elements of a page turner. I wasn’t quite sure which direction the book was going to go in and didn’t predict the end. Read it!

What a freaking page turner. Friends go to what should be an amazing get away together as friends. And then they all start to die. One by one. But it starts to come out they all might have reasons for someone wanting to kill them. So who is it - someone on or off the island? Literally did not see the end coming. At all. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
