Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for a free ecopy of The Whisper Island in exchange for an honest review. I really liked this book, it was a real page turner! It kept me guessing the whole wau through. Very tense and intriguing. Definitely recommend!!
This book started off so good! I was immediately drawn in and wanted to clear my schedule to finish this book. Unfortunately, at about the halfway point the story took a dive and became very unbelievable which caused me to lose interest. I also didn't find any of the characters to be very likeable. The ending was alright though I had a major question about how things could have worked out the way the author portrayed.
Overall this was a fun quick read but not one of my favorite Carissa Anne Lynch books.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
The book centers around a group of artist friends that attend the same college. They decide to head to Whisper Island, a private island located in Alaska for some relaxation. This book reminds me of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. I love this type of mystery so I really enjoyed this book.
The book was a quick read and fun and I recommend it.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the Arc.
I would rate this book 2.5 out of 5 stars.
This story really just didn't work for me - the writing wasn't great, the characters had no real depth therefore I really didn't care about any of them, the characters also made completely ridiculous decisions repeatedly, the story was incredibly predictable and, while I enjoyed the short chapters, there was no real distinction between the different perspectives.
If you are looking for a fast paced thriller this is the book for you! The multiple POV kept this book engaging & it was quite creepy which is always good in this kind of book! I think the author did a fabulous job of keeping you on your toes in terms of who the murderer is! Overall I'd say my only complaint was that the ending felt a little fast!
Talk about a wild adventure of a book. I loved how short the chapters were made it so easy to fly through this book. The author definitely knows how to write intense storylines! I won’t be missing any of this authors books from here on out!
Thank you NetGalley for the copy of Whisper Island. I thought this one was pretty good, glad it was pretty fast paced and an easy read. It wasnt my favorite so thats why I am giving it a 3 star rating. It had its moments where it was interesting but some parts just lost my interest. I was hoping it was going to be more intense but it felt more like a cozy mystery feeling rather than a bigger type of thriller book I was hoping for.
Reading Between the Wines book review #96/115 for 2021:
Rating: 3 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 📱: Whisper Island
Author: Carissa Ann Lynch
Genre: General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers
RELEASED on February 5, 2021!!!
Sipping thoughts: I love a good one setting, multiple suspects, multiple killings type of mystery. This is one of those where you know the killer is among them and not only do you have to figure out who the killer is but the motive behind it. Was it Riley-the quiet but mysterious girl, Sam-the girl who invited everyone to the island, Mia- the one who already has a bad past, Scarlett- the druggie, thinks she is better than everyone socialite or the brother, Sammy and his girlfriend, Opal who were not even supposed to be there? The killer was not hard to figure out and eventually the motive was pretty easy to guess as well. I enjoyed the book enough and it reads more like a YA book.
Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley, @HarperCollinsUK and @OneMoreChapter for an advanced copy of @WhisperIsland.

Love your Work.
Had a bit of trouble getting into this one, but glad I kept at it because it did pick up pace and I did enjoy it.
Worth a read.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.
I found the first half of the book too be a bit slow and repetive. It picked up in the second half . I cant say I loved this book but I did like it. I found it be predictable.
This is so hard for me to write because I was a huge, huge fan of "My Sister is Missing" and I recommend it all the time, and I love a good locked room mystery.... but I really found this one hard to get through.
Right from the start I had trouble getting in to this one. I tried picking it up several times since I downloaded it and couldn't get into it. I ended up paying for the audiobook through Audible just to finish it out of sheer curiosity.
There was nothing particularly distinctive, sympathetic or intriguing about any of these characters so I had a hard time learning who was who. This was a problem that plagued me through the book. Since all of the characters were kind of blah I didn't really get invested in who might be the murderer. For a good locked room mystery you kind of need to make all the characters distinct and give you reasons to trust them and also hint at reasons you shouldn't. I want to feel betrayed when I find out who it is. I want to be shocked when people are (or aren't!) the bad guy. I just didn't fell any of that with this book because the characters all kind of blended together.
Again, I hate to say that because I love this author's previous work and I would still read more from her, this one just wasn't it for me.
A fast read that kept me hooked from start to finish. I love locked room murder mysteries and this one did not disappoint.
This was a creative twist on the "stuck on an island" trope that we see in horror/thriller movies and books. Even though I knew who did it, I enjoyed the ride to the rationale and all the events that transpired in between. It was kind of like I was watching an 80s slasher movie, which I absolutely love.
We all know the plot. I mean, Agatha Christie was the first to do it with And Then There Were None, but we’ve seen this done in murder mystery and thrillers since then. Four US college art students – Riley, Mia, Sammy and Scarlett – decide to go to an island in Alaska to work on their art and their friendship. But when they arrive on Whisper Island, they realise that something is very wrong. The island is nothing like the photos Sammy’s brother sent. Then Sammy’s brother, Rob, and his new girlfriend, Opal, arrive unexpectedly, throwing the group through a loop as Rob is Mia’s ex, and Scarlett and Rob seem to have a sudden connection. Then the murders starts...
So... my thoughts on this book. Well... they aren’t good nor kind. I am actually in two minds over writing this write-up for Whisper Island as it’s might come across salty. Now, before I go any further, I do want to say that, while I do have the eProof from the publisher, I listened to the audiobook via my local library and this does pay a factor in my opinions as, I do think that if I had read it, I might have been a tad kinder as the audiobook narrator was very robotic, flat and had it almost impossible to tell each character apart as all their voices were the same. So, not recommending the audiobook.. Sorry on that front.
But the book itself. It’s... well... if I had to sum this up using a gif, it would be the gif was RuPaul going “Meh”. This was just meh and bland.
Now, I gave this book a lot of leeway. I audiobooked the whole story and I knew, going into this, that it wasn’t going to be a five star read, but I was expecting something fun, edge of your seat gripping, with twists and turns that I wouldn’t see coming. I got none of them.
The story, the writing, the characters, the twists all felt flat and really bland. I didn’t care for any of the characters (who were in their early/mid 20s and yet, would speak like they were much, much older but make dumb decisions of teenagers), and seeing as the first murder didn’t happen till around the 55% mark, that’s plenty of them to make me like them. But nope. I found them bland and interchangeable (even though they all had their own secrets, none of which catch and held my attention) and, even though each chapter was told from one of the main four (with Sammy’s brother and his girlfriend talking one or two chapters), their voices were exactly the same, all irritating and all using the same turn of phrases. If it wasn’t for them saying each other’s characters name EVERY TIME THEY SPOKE, I would have got completely lost.
The killer was an easy guess (there was only one real suspect, in my opinion) and their motives might have been easy to figure for some readers. And it was the last 20% that I began to like the book. Things began to fall into place and one or two (easy to spot) twists and then, of course, we have the showdown. Still not written great, but the showdown held me.
I think I get what the author was trying to do with Whisper Island, but it doesn’t work. It comes across flat, bland and forgettable.

For friends Riley, Sammy, Mia, and Scarlett a getaway is exactly what they need - the four of them will use this time to work on their artwork and rest and recharge. When the unexpected arrival of Sammy's brother Rob and his new girlfriend Opal the group starts to crumble. It isn't long before one of them is murdered, sending everyone into a panic. They're under the impression that they're alone on the island, or are they? At this point, no one can be trusted and tensions are high. Fingers get pointed as some dark and twisted secrets get revealed, although I had figured out who the killer was, it was really interesting getting to the why they did what they did.
Going into this I had really high hopes, and thought the book would give off 'And Then There Were None' vibes, but overall, the book fell a little flat to me. I didn't really connect with any of the characters and found most of them to be pretty annoying! This being said, since the cast of characters was so small I was able to figure out who the killer was pretty quickly. The author does a great job describing the atmosphere of the island, it really sets the eerie tone for this book. I couldn't help but think the entire time why someone would want to visit an isolated/creepy island as a vacation spot.
Overall, this was a good starter mystery but just wasn't what I was expecting!

I received an ARC of this book thanks to NetGalley and publisher One More Chapter in exchange for an honest review.
What a pleasant surprise! It is no secret that I love 'murder island' stories as I call them, even though they can often vary widely in quality. I wasn't expected a whole lot from Whisper Island as the blurb was quite vague but it ended up being one of the best murder island stories I've read in a while.
Whisper Island is the story of four college girls who go to stay on an island, only to be unexpectedly joined by one of the girls' brother and his new girlfriend. One of the girls used to date him and yet another wants him to cheat on his girlfriend with her. It all starts off as harmless teen drama until someone is found dead and things take a far more serious turn.
This book skates the line between horror and thriller in the best kind of way. It never goes into full on slasher territory but there is more gore than your typical thriller, plus a lot of the classic 'stalked by a killer' elements. It made for a gripping read and I loved not knowing what would happen next or who would die.
I think the weakest element was probably the characters. Though they are 3-dimensional and never feel flat or uninteresting, I did struggle to tell some of them apart which disturbed the flow of the story a little. Having said that, I was listening to the audiobook so that might have been a factor. I think the most important characters were identifiable and that's what really matters.
Overall, if you love closed setting thriller or horror books, then Whisper Island is definitely worth a try. It's relatively short and would be a perfect companion for a holiday or journey somewhere. The destination might not be all that surprising but there is plenty to enjoy along the way.
Overall Rating: 4/5 stars
First book I’ve read by this author and look forward to reading more. Very suspenseful and perfect for a quick read at the beach.
Whisper Island by Carissa Ann Lynch was a great Book. I was hooked within the first few pages.
So, Six of us are going to the island. Only one of us will make it back.
That one of us will be me.......
Exciting Start to this book! I found this book fun and quick to read. It's full of Twists Turns and Secrets.
All 6 characters of this book are hiding secrets and various emotions, these will all come alight throughout this book
But who survives? and who will make it out alive? WoW
Big Thanks to One More Chapter the publisher and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the story of four friends getting together on a island to work on a group project. The brother of one of the friends and his girlfriend also arrive on the island with them. They are only there for a day when the killing starts. Who is the killer and why are they killing?
Overall, I liked the story. It was a very quick read and kept me interested. There were things throughout the story that were predictable themes. I wish there had been more visual references scattered throughout the story. While reading, I felt like I never had a really clear picture of the island or characters in my head. I don't remember much of the weather being described either. One of the characters makes a reference to 'the storm the other night', but it left me scratching my head as to when it was described.
I would recommend this book and am interested in reading some of the author's other books.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me a copy to review.
