I enjoyed this story with all the characters within. The main characters Mercedes Heath and Wesley Renshaw.
Mercedes Heath is an orphan whose Aunt has took her in. But her Aunt husband wants to send her away to a school. There she meets three other girls and they become friends. They call there group Wallflower of West lane. She has been living with one of them. When she get word that an earl wants to court her friend she is not happy. Her friend has had a rough time after the death of her husband. He was not a nice man.
Wesley Renshaw is an earl. He is on a mission to get his grandpa land back and everything else. He finds out who has bought the land. Now he has to find a way to get it back. Since he can't buy it he decides to come up with a plan to marry the woman. But when he goes to court her he finds her friend in the way.
This was a fun story to read. It had action, adventure and drama throughout. It had a few giggles within.
I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.
Capturing the Earl by A s Fenchel
A historical romance third book in the wallflowers of west lane series ok read if a bit slow as a stand alone read.
It was a bit mixed signal story main suitor in love with one woman but aims to marry her friend for monetary gain.
It was a tad annoying in parts. Ok read not the best story of this type .
Reader of a sensitive nature should note sexual abuse mentioned in part.
This has been on my NetGalley shelf for over a year, and I still haven’t picked it up. I've tried, but it just isn't for me (right now). I hope other people enjoy it more than I did.
Historical romance with the "I want him to be with my friend instead of me...right?" trope. Cute read.
Did not connect with this one. Could be because I came in fresh here and did not read the first two books in the series (so in that sense, it does not stand alone very well), but the characters also just seemed off. The heroine was rude for no reason the very first time we meet her on the page. And then the hero, falling for a woman he consistently deems as being inferior and/or of lowly rank and consequently inconsequential just made him sound like an arse half the time and not hero material
Wanted to like, but the romance never seemed to grow, and it slogged a lot through very clunky writing too throughout
Good regency era read! I like the wallflowers. I’d read an earlier one in the series and enjoyed it- this one was no different. Definitely grab a copy- you’ll enjoy!
Sometimes it takes me a little longer to get into a historical so I am sorry to say I struggled with this one. I think the author did a great job but I could not find myself relating unfortunately.
DNF. Did not get into this story and after 10% I ended up setting it aside and may come back to it at a later date.
This book was a cozy historical romance novel. None of the plot elements were particularly high stakes, but that is exactly what the ideal reader of this book would want. This book is the third in the series, which did make me curious about the other books and how different or similar their plots may be. My preference for romance books includes more plot, so for that reason I don't think I'm quite the target audience for this. If the relationship progression between the two leads with minimal external plot is what you like definitely pick this up! I think the traditional historical romance novel lover would enjoy this book. The writing was good, I enjoyed the changes of scenery, and the characters were interesting.
this really is a nice series. I pretty much enjoy everything Fenichel has written so far. A funny and enchanting story. Great characters, great story. Satisfying ending.
Mercy" Heath believes she will never marry. She and three of her friends were know as the Wallflowers of West Lane. Two of them have married and have a loving relationship with their husbands.. Wesley Renshaw (The Earl of Castlewick) has come to court Lady Aurora Radcliff, the other wallflower not married due to her husband leaving her a widow. Wesley is trying to get everything his family owns back. He's got all but the property owned by lady Aurora and thinks if they marry he will have it. Mercy is protecting her friend by preventing a marriage between wesley and aurora. She know Aurora never wants to marry again cause her first one was a terrible marriage and she's not going to let anyone else force her into a marriage
I am a sucker for a historical romance trope where the heroine is trying to prevent the hero from marrying her best friend. This had a good set up and some good characters, but the flow of the book was off a bit and the middle seemed to really lose speed.
I would like to thank NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
It was a fun and light historical book, quite the fast read, with many fluffy and heartwarming moments. The banter was fun and Mercy and Wesley were just adorable!
I would recommend this book to all the lovers of a cozy regency romances!
I really loved Mercedes! She was strong and knew that the ton did not determine her worth, except it deemed her unmarriageable to an Earl. Wesley unfortunately had to marry Mercedes best friend Aurora if he wanted to get back his ancestral lands, but she will not marry again. As Wesley aims to woo Aurora he cannot avoid Mercedes.
I enjoyed this read and Wesley's struggle between a family promise and true love. I am looking forward to Aurora's story!
Not your typical romance. I enjoyed the diversion from the norm. The antagonism, and attraction, between Mercy and Wesley keeps you reading to see what they're going to do next. The familial-like friendship between Mercy and her friends is heartwarming. It is also the catalyst of the friction between our main characters. Highly entertaining.
Thank you A.S. Fenichel, Kensington Books and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
I was a little disappointed by this book and hoping for more! The ending really threw me for a loop, and I didn't understand the sexual violence that entered seemingly at the last minute. I enjoyed Mercy as a character but this went on for too long and generally had me puzzled.
Old time book. Done. I was sold from the beginning for this book. I really liked this story and characters. Must read for me.
If you are looking for a fast-paced historical fiction (romance) novel, read this book. I read the earlier book in the series. This is the story of Mercedes Hawke and her friend, Aurora Radcliffe.
Mercy is a strong character and though she makes some questionable choices, I liked her. I wish I could say the same for Wesley Renshaw. It was all I could do to stop myself from punching him in the face.
Anyway, this book was totally unexpected after the action-packed second book. But I quite liked it.
3 stars.
I am a big fan of Romance books and I found this one to be a very enjoyable read. I will be looking for more books from this author.
This book was a pleasant diversion from the normal Regency romance in that it seemed as though the friendship of the Wallflowers was every bit as important to the story as the romance. I did get the distinct feeling that this book is part of a series (I have not read the other titles), and the author did a decent job of keeping us in the loop if that's the case. However, there were so many typos in this version that it was cringeworthy. Most of them had to do with punctuating dialogue, but some were just overlooked errors. Very sad since it really ruined a good story.
