I enjoyed the multiple POV's in this book. They were really well done. However, I have read too many books recently with the baby being taken, kidnapped, you name it. It is such an overdone trope for me. I think this affected my rating of the book, honestly. It was an interesting concept, but I don't think I was in the mood to read it. It was very far fetched as well.
When your child goes through a lot, parents have two options. They either help and support or they don't and leave them be. Now that I think about it, shouldn't parents always stand by their offspring? I guess I would, but on the other hand, children often don't want their parents advice. It's hard to judge when you are not in their shoes.
In the end there often are regrets, but then unfortunately it's too late and they realise they could have prevented a lot of heartbreak.
I loved Paula. She did everything she could, but the problem was that she was still so young. There was not a lot she could do, but she did the best she could which makes her my favorite person in this story.
Was there any hope for Lizzie? Maybe with the help of her sister Paula, she could have turned her life around.
And then there was the baddie. Driven by longing, broken and delusional at the same time making them do the things they did, but always planning meticulously.
This was a great book filled to the brim with emotions. I loved it to bits. 5 stars
Thank you
Thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish.
The story is told from two perspectives, Paula, a divorced Mum of two, and Charlie; a sixteen year old girl with a loving family.
The two stories seemed so far apart to start with, but gradually the links appear.
I couldn’t wait to see how this was all going to end.
This is a fast paced take on a plot line which is not all that original but, does that matter? The author takes the story on such a twisty turny path towards the ultimate outcome that I really don’t think it does. She brings the characters to life and paints the picture of fear and anger so clearly you will feel like you are there.
This is not an original storyline but the author has managed to write it in a way where it doesn’t feel samey and does have a lot of suspense and intrigue, a good thriller overall
A very good, suspenseful thriller that kept me reading past my bed time....and all night long. The story line is not original, but Alison James put enough twists and spins in it, she made it her own. A sister's search for a long lost child taken from her sister just before her death and the consequences attached made this an "oh no, they didn't" read for me. Great read and my reading circle is going to love it too!!!
I love this authors books and I forgot I had read this So sorry for the late review. Her Sister's Child by
Alison James was another excellent book. All of her books I have read have been a 5 star read and this one was no different I was gripped from the very first few pages till the end. I read this very quickly and full of twists and I found I couldn't put it down. as it was So good!

This is the first book I have read by this author, but it won't be my last. A fast past, edgy and complicated story. It kept me interested throughout.
A recommended read.
This was one of the first novels by Alison James I've read in a very long time, and I was reminded again why she is one of the best out there. The book was full of twists and turns, and nothing was as it seems. Recommended for anyone who loves a good read that keeps you entertained until the very end.

This one has me so engrossed so much so I couldn’t put it down and had it I read it in a day. Story is told from several perspectives which I loved and switches from past to present. Really good storyline that kept you guessing and written so well that you didn’t realise you weren’t given all the information so it really kept you guessing as to how it all connected. Really likeable characters and some equally unlikeable characters and then some that went on to surprise you. Love the pace of the storyline, it was engaging and never dragged or had a lull. The suspense and twists and turns a huge plus. The only negative I would have is it ended just a bit to abruptly and it felt like the ending was rushed. It needed a bit more to bring it to a close. But all in all really enjoyed it and definitely had me turning the pages.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this ARC that was published in Nov 2020.
A stunning read. I read it in one day! Completely hooked. I love the author and this doesn't disappoint. Gripping, tense and some good twists.
Her Sister's Child Alison James
I really enjoyed this book, it kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through. I really enjoyed the dual storyline and felt myself rooting for all of the characters, even though not all were likeable. A great read.
Her Sister’s Child by Alison James
I Loved this book! from the very first pages I could feel I was going to enjoy reading it and it did not disappoint.
I could not put the book down as the story kept me on the edge of my seat. The story is fast paced and exciting.
The drama and suspense are excellent and I loved the characters.
The story is written from three points of view; Paula (the younger sister), Charlie (the older sister’s child) and Marian (the Social Worker desperate for a child of her own)
This is the first book I have read by Alison James and I enjoyed it so much I want to read more of her books
I would like to thank Net Galley and Bookouture for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
This was a very disappointing read for me. I started the book with high hopes but it fell flat. The book was predictable and was more of a family drama rather than a thriller. There were so many clichés which made the book no different from so many other similar thrillers out there. I was hoping that there would be a twist or a suspense coming in the second half of the book but there was no redeeming factor.
This book was full of twists and I found I couldnt put it down. It was complicated in bits, but it still held my interest. I look forward to reading more of her books.
I initially had a hard time getting into this book, told from 3 perspectives and trying to keep up with the various timelines and keep them managed in your head whilst trying to get to the crux of it, that said, when it all came together it was like a lightning bulb moment. It was an intriguing psychological read with a very satisfactory ending. Really enjoyed it.
I hve only recently discovered this author and am so pleased that I did. If you like family based psychological thrillers then I highly recommend Alison James. Her sisters child was full of twists and turns and events which keep the reader on their toes. Once I started reading I was hooked in and couldn’t put this down and read it in a wet Sunday afternoon. The story and characters in this book are very well written and the storyline is very apt for modern day and depicts the emotions of those who are desperate to have children and the lengths they will go to to make that happen.
Clever but complicated. The second conclusion - which happened because of the sheer number of characters, multiple identities and ever-changing time frames - almost caused me to pack it in. But the first one started to kick in somewhere around the halfway point - and from then on, I was glued to my Kindle till the very last page
3.5 Stars!
The idea behind this book sounds so intriguing but for whatever reason I struggled with it. I wanted to love it and while I didn't hate it, the book just didn't do it for me. The ending was rushed and felt ingenuine.
All of the characters are well written although I did have some issues with Johnny. I got more into the book in the middle than at the beginning. while I am normally alright with different timelines in a book and switching between them with the number of characters here I wasn't crazy with that.
Paula commits to finding out what happened to her sister Lizzie’s child, born seventeen or eighteen years ago. She is greatly helped by a friend, one of the few people who knew Lizzie was pregnant.
Lizzie, a alcoholic, died in childbirth and the baby was nowhere to be found.
Meanwhile, a pregnant teenager flees from home and her baby is in danger too.
I read on to find out how it all had happened, rather than what had happened. It is all quite clear from early on. There is a big surprise at the end, though I wouldn’t exactly call it a twist.
The story is very interesting, really, it could have been handled in a different manner, though.
