Fantastic read! Krista Davis never fails to write an exceptionally entertaining mystery. You have to love Holly, Oma, Rose, Holmes, and all their critters and love the calamities they get themselves into! Oh, we can't forget Officer Dave, even though he is supposed to unravel the calamities. Big Little Spies is a great beach read so put it in your TBR pile and take to the beach this summer.

Big Little Spies is the seventh book in the Paws And Claws Mystery series by Krista Davis.

Holly Miller and her Oma are busy getting their Sugar Maple Inn ready to welcome Wagtail Animal Guardians(WAG) members, who are having their There’s No Place Like Home Pet Adoption Ball.

Holly and Trixie, her rescue dog, are enjoying meeting with their guests and their pets when she gets a phone call from her boyfriend’s grandmother, Rose, asking her to come to Judge Barlow’s home. Holly thinks that there has been some word on Barlow’s missing German Shepherd, Fritz. Holly knew that Barlow’s housekeeper, Miss Dovie, had hired a pet detective, Seth Bertenshaw, to look for Fritz. But instead, Rose and Barlow feel that listening devices have been placed in the judge’s home.

A day or two later, while at a shed fire at Miss Dovie’s, Holly notices that Trixie is missing. Soon she hears her bark and fears what that bark might mean. She soon finds not only Trixie but also Fritz. Trixie and Fritz are standing guard over the body of the pet detective. Before long, a guest dies when someone switches her medicines, and another lady is sent to the hospital in serious condition possibly caused by poisoning. It’s time for Holly and Trixie to get down to business and find out what is going on in Wagtail before there are any more deaths.
It’s always great to visit with Trixie, the pets, and the wonderful residents. I would love to live in a community like Wagtail, where the dogs and cats can go wherever their humans go. The story is well-written and plotted. The characters are well-developed and believable,

Delicious recipes, both for humans and pets, are included in the book.

I will be looking for the next book in this exciting series.

Big Little Spies by Krista Davis (Paws and Claws #7) 4 stars

Holly Miller, co-owner of the Sugar Maple Inn in Wagtail has an inn filled with guests. Of note are the various ladies involved with WAG (Wagtail Animal Guardians) - Brenda McDade, Joanne Williams, Louisa Twomey, Oriana Renouf and Addie Lieras. They are in Wagtail to host the "There is No Place Like Home" Gala Ball. In the middle of all the hustle and bustle Holly received a call from Rose Richardson, the grandmother of her boyfriend, Holmes Richardson. Rose asks Holly to visit the home of Judge Grant Barlow; his dog Fritz is missing and the Judge needs Holly's help. The Judge tells Holly that his missing dog is not his only problem, he is being harassed. Later, Holly meets Seth Bertenshaw, who is the pet detective hired to find Fritz. At a party for the WAG ladies at Rose's home, Holly finds Seth's lifeless corpse. Who killed Seth Bertenshaw and why is the main mystery of this book.

This was an interesting mystery, because the more information Holly found out about the victim, the more the suspect list grew. Everybody seems to be hiding multiple secrets and past actions may have come to roost. I look forward to the my next visit to Wagtail.

Thank you Netgalley and Berkeley Publishing Group for this ARC.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

We return to Wagtail, Virginia just in time for the ‘There’s No Place Like Home’ Pet Adoption Ball being thrown by the Wagtail Animal Guardians or WAG for short. The ladies and their pets have all checked in at the Sugar Maple Inn and Holly, Oma Liesel, Zelda, Mr. Huckle, Gingersnap, Twinkletoes, and Trixie are making them all feel welcome. But they are concerned about another precious pup. The Geman Shepherd of a local retired recently widowed judge is missing. His housekeeper has called in a pet detective but before he can return the dog to the judge, Trixie, Holly’s rescue dog who has a habit of finding dead bodies, finds a dead pet detective. It seems the detective has connections to several WAG members. There are also several strange things happening that put other lives in peril. It’s time for Holly and Trixie to find out what the heck is going on including who killed the pet detective.

I absolutely love the pet-friendly town of Wagtail. With a new puppy in the house, who we love to take everywhere with us, Wagtail would be a perfect vacation spot. Even a dead body or two is an issue because I love a good mystery and would do anything I could to help Holly crate a killer.

The core group of characters, human, canine, and feline, are so cleverly crafted. They all have huge hearts and love catering to their guest’s needs and having Wagtail become a great tourist destination. They are all engaging and genuine. I get such a kick of Holly jumping on a golf cart and being quickly followed by Trixie and sometimes Twinkletoes. The pets are not just window dressing they are vital to the story.

We are introduced to several new characters and their pets. I love that Ms. Davis knows this may be confusing at first so she graciously includes a complete list of characters before the story begins. The WAG ladies are a diverse group with their own issues and secrets. They spend a lot of time together and know each other’s quirks and how to work best together but even they don’t know all of each other’s secrets. The judge and his housekeeper also play prominent roles. They also have issues and secrets.

The story unfolds at a very fast pace with subplots tightly tangled with the main mystery/s. There is truly a plethora of suspects with a variety of motives. Twists and turns muddied my thinking several times and just when I thought I had the killer leashed another twist sent me off in another direction and still I was barking up the wrong tree. I was gobsmacked when everything was revealed. The author plotted out a fantastic mystery.

In addition to the marvelous characters and the mysteries they were wrapped in the Sugar Maple Inn serves up a menu of delicious food for its guests. The pet-friendly versions are really interesting and thought-provoking. We don’t prepare special meals for our pooch but there are some great easy-to-make options included in this book. I just may have to try some of them out. A pet cookbook with the recipes from this series would be fun.

Big Little Spies is a delightful addition to this series. The title truly fits. I do get a little melancholy when I reach the final page of books in this series because I really enjoy spending time with these characters. I can’t wait to return to Wagtail. This visit ended much too soon.

This is the 7th book in the Paws and Claws cozy mystery series. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend the series. I found the story very fun to read and I just couldn't put it down until I found out who done it. Read it, you'll like it!

This book started off a bit strangely, jumping right into talking about random characters unfamiliar to the Wagtail world. At first, I thought a couple chapters were missing, but it seems not; just an interesting choice by the author. By chapter four things settled into place, with intriguing multiple mysteries surrounding an upcoming fundraising ball and an unfortunate murder. Of course, Holly and Trixie quickly get involved to find the killer! Secrets become unraveled as the duo-with help from other favorite characters-investigate. Besides the somewhat muddled first few chapters, the book is fast paced and will keep the reader captive.
Net Galley provided me with an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

I want to live in Wagtail. I liked the characters, especially the four legged ones. There is a big ball happening in town to benefit pet adoptions. Not only are people invited, so are their pets. Everyone is dressed up, including the pets. When a pet detective is found dead, Holly helps to figure out who killed him. There are too many things going on in town. The Judge suspects that someone has bugged his house and is listening in on all his conversations. One woman's pill were switched and she became very sick. Two more women were poisoned. What is going on? Can Holly find out what is going on before anyone else dies?

Big Little Spies, the seventh book in the Paws & Claws Mysteries by Krista Davis, is a well-written story. I find the characters to include the pets enchanting and entertaining.
This installment has the ladies of the Wagtail Animal Guardians, coming in droves to participate in the ‘There’s No Place Like Home’ pet adoption charity ball. Holly Miller, co-owns the pet-friendly Sugar Maple Inn with her grandmother.
Before the ball, a pet owner has lost his pet. He hires a pet detective to find his pup. Unfortunately, Holly and Trixie find the dead pet detective.

I like that there is a handy character list at the beginning of the book. I found the writing very descriptive, entertaining, and the plot well-crafted. I enjoyed the twists throughout the book. I always look forward to a book in this series.

I was given an advanced reader’s copy. I am not required to leave a positive review.

Here’s a new book in the Paws and Claws mystery series. The Wagtail Animal Guardians, otherwise known as WAGs are ready to attend a pet adoption charity ball. Holly Miller, who owns the local inn, is heading it up and excited to host these special guests, along with her furry friend, Trixie.
When a local judge’s dog disappears, he hires a pet detective, who turns up dead. Said detective has some connections to the WAG ladies, so Holly investigates to see if she can find out if any of them might be the guilty party.
Nothing better than a good cozy mystery.

Big Little Spies by Krista Davis is the 7th book in the Paws and Claws Mystery series, and another great addition. I love all of Ms. Davis series: Paws and Claws mystery, A Domestic Diva mystery, and the Pen & Ink mysterious. I highly recommend them all. Every time I read a Paws and Claws mystery, it feels like visiting old friends. Wagtail is a dog and cat friendly town. The animals can run loose, and stay in Inn, dine in restaurants, and shop with their owners. In this book, the ladies of the Wagtail Animal Guardians are in town to hold a pet adoption charity ball. When a retired judge loses his dog, they hire a pet detective to find him. Unfortunately the pet detective is found dead, and the sleuthing begins. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I strongly recommend this book, you won't be disappointed.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

We are back in Wagtail, in the seventh book in the Paws and Claws series. This time, Holly and her pets are looking to see who murdered a pet detective? Could it be someone she knows? Clues are pointing that way. This is a must read for fans of the series—but read the preceding books first. This story was fast paced and comforting at the same time. I definitely recommend.

Krista Davis does not disappoint with this latest installment in the Paws & Claws Mystery series. This story was a neat little puzzle surrounding Wagtail Animal Guardians (WAG) ladies - they all are seemingly put together, but under the surface they each have many secrets lurking. There is a budding romance between Rose and a secret gentleman, Aunt Birdie is as feisty as ever, and the Inn is thriving. There is lots of craziness taking place in this story and, of course, there are no shortage of cats and dogs.

I was especially excited to see the character of Loki, a husky, who reminded me a lot of my husky Thor :)

4.8 stars.

I voluntarily reviewed this book on Netgalley.

One lie, long ago, sets up a chain of events in later years. Once again Ms. Davis shows us why we love her books so very much! An action packed mystery with lots of twists and turns. Mysterious happenings at an elderly man’s home make Holly wonder whether the man is losing his mind, or being gaslighted. Throw in a murder and a missing dog and the mystery only deepens.

Another fun and super cozy installment in this series, which revolves around a small hotel in a pet friendly town. Between the happenings at the hotel, the antics of all the pets, and all the delicious food that the main character snags from the hotel kitchen, this series is cozy as can be. Recommended!

Thanks for the ARC!

A missing German shepherd, a poisoned pet detective, and a fund raising ball are a lot for Holly to handle but she's on the case(s), along with her trusty companion Trixie and her friends. Set in the pet friendly town of Wagtail, this is a classic cozy that plays up the pets and the interpersonal relationships as much as it does the murder mystery. Holly's got to figure out who the villain is quick, because others are at risk. She uses her nose for clues to solve it before I did! This is the first book in the series that I've read so the list of characters was handy but it was generally fine as a standalone. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A fun read and I'm looking forward to the next one!

Big Little Spies is the 7th installment of the Paws and Claws series. It follows Holly as she partners with her grandmother Oma to run a hotel in a pet centric town called Wagtail. Holly and her jack russell Trixie also have a habit of finding dead bodies and getting sucked into the whodunnit. In this book there are multiple mysteries all surrounding local Judge Barlow and the women in town organizing a pet adoption gala. There are many possible suspects and as usually we are left guessing until the very end. I highly recommend this series and this book. I can’t wait for the next Wagtail story.

"Big Little Spies" is a cozy mystery. It's the seven book in a series. You don't need to read the previous books to understand this story, and this book didn't spoil the previous ones.

The mystery was clue-based. The critical clue needed to determine whodunit was not provided until the end, so it's not really a puzzle mystery. Holly asked questions and observed people. I usually have no problem keeping track of who is who, but there were so many suspects with similar relationships to the victim that it was difficult to remember who had what motives, what connections, what pet, etc. I felt like I should've created a chart, but I still enjoyed the mystery even with this mild confusion. The characters were interesting and engaging. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this fun mystery.
