Heartbreak, friendship, redemption, book club- what more do you need!?
Jazmine, Judith, Sara, and Erin have a lot going on in their personal lives these days. Break ups, divorce, betrayals and learning how to trust for the first time in years after loss. But what does connect this complication and so enjoyable characters? A book club. Through love and laughter, they learn to over come adversity and become the badass women they were always meant to be.
The Break-Up Book Club was such an enjoyable chiklit read. I found myself missing and thinking about the characters while at work. The women are so likable and dare I say it? RELATABLE! Very rarely do I read a chiklit book and think to myself, "I would totally respond this way." The female characters are strong and resilient. I would recommend this book to any woman going through a hard time.
The only negative to me was the back and forth every other chapter between four women. It did get a little confusing at times but Wendy Wax does an incredible job of quickly placing you in that characters story within a few pages of their chapter. I did find that I cared more about other characters storylines than the others. I wanted to spend more time with Judith and Sara rather than Jazmine and Erin. However, I also think that is what makes this book so brilliant- every person who reads this book will relate to one of the four women more than the others.
*Thank you to Netgalley and Berkley Books for an ARC copy of this book for my honest thoughts*
It’s an easy read but the ending falls flat.
Sorry, i love Wendy Wax’s other books but this just missed the mark for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Received a digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.
Good read. I expected more book club meetings, mention of books for a book about a book club. The individual narratives were interesting. Some characters made me mad but that’s just good writing. Overall, it was a nice book to distract from the pandemic.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book. The description of this book really caught my eye, but unfortunately I had a hard time connecting with the characters and found it to be slow paced.
This kinda reminded me of the bromance bookclub books and in a good way. I really liked the premise, but for me it was just a tad slow. It took me way too long just to get through this and by the time I was done, I feel like it was just meh for me.
This one was all about the relationships between the book club members. The members all have their own stories, and bring so much fun to the story.
Such an enjoyable read about the strength and bond of female friendships- loved the different perspectives and this is a wonderful summer read!
This is a new author for me. I was suggested to read one of Wendy Wax books for a good beach read. This book was perfect for that. I love that it was light, but not fluffy for reading. I loved the twists and turns for each character and didn't predict it coming as I was reading. I would read more by Wendy! Thank you for letting me review this book.
This was a 4 star read for me.. I liked how the author, focused on a few characters and their interactions with each other. How different their lives are but how similar. Wendy Wax, did a great job developing the characters. They were woman with real problems. It was honest and I really enjoyed, each woman’s perspective. This is a good summer/beach read. My only issue was it took a bit of time to get to the meat and potatoes of the story. But overall, it was a good read. I have shared my thoughts with friends and family. I have also shared my review on other retail sites.. thank you to Netgalley for my copy for an honest review.. Always such a pleasure to read, a good story. I hope you enjoy it too!!!
Every month, an unlikely group of friends gets together at their local bookstore to talk about books. Sara, Judith, Jazmine, and others pick a new book each month and then spend an evening together, eating and drinking, and talking about said book.
Judith, a middle-aged woman with grown kids and a husband who takes her for granted; Jazmine, a sports agent and single mother; Sara, who works part time at the bookstore to kill time while her husband is out of town for work. They would seemingly have nothing in common.
Even newbies to the group like Erin, the young assistant who recently started working for Jazmine, and Dorothy, Sara's mother in law, find friendship and hope in the group.
Each is facing different challenges in life but with their books and their reading friends by their sides, they find they can overcome just about anything.
I love, love, love Wendy Wax's work. And I really love when her books revolve around books. Like this one!
But in addition to the books, it's the characters that really get me. Here, Wax has created a number of fully realized characters with their own unique stories and voices to tell them.
And it's the connections between these women that I especially loved!
As I mentioned, this is a motley group. And there are more to the group than just the ones I've mentioned, including Jazmine's best friend, Judith's best friend, a pair of twin siblings, a fashion designer, an EMT, a golfer, and the bookstore owner herself (hopefully I got them all!). While the narrative does alternate between just Sara, Erin, Judith, and Jazmine's perspectives, Wax does a truly fabulous job of giving voice to each of the other members of the group as well. And that's a pretty big accomplishment! Developing even one main character can be a challenge for some. Never a challenge for Wax, however!
The whole group is a bit of a found family. A support system, working behind the scenes that comes through for each and every one of our narrators in the ways that they need them to. Which is saying something considering that in both Erin and Judith's positions, their own family and friend groups fall a little bit down on the job!
I've been purposely hazy about the actual plot points for each of the narrators. This is because I kind of dove into this one with very little knowledge of the book. Wax is an auto read for me, so I didn't read the book description at all and I truly enjoyed the journey of getting to know the characters without any teasers to get me started.
The Break-Up Book Club is a fizzy and fabulous feel good read about female friendships and connections.
This book was a complete struggle from page one. I had a hard time getting through this book. There was too many characters for my liking and I had a hard time keeping track of everyone.
Another cute story! Huge fan of this book and loved the characters. Very enjoyable! Definitely recommend picking up!
I loved this book. The character development was excellent, and there is a character for every reader to identify with. I am definitely looking for a book club to join after reading this book!
The Break-Up Book Club tells the story of five women all at major life changes, but all tied together by their book club.
Wax’s novel does an amazing job of weaving together different stories, each one just as compelling as the next. It’s rare that in a novel like this, I actually look forward to each of the characters stories, but this was the case with this novel. The Break Up Book Club also did an excellent job of reminding readers that you may think that someone has it all together, but you never actually know what someone is dealing with. Everyone has their own secrets and could use your help from time to time.
A most enjoyable book about members of a book club who share more of their lives than just the discussion of books. All of the main characters are facing a turning point or crisis in their lives. Sara finds out her marriage is not what she thought it was; Jazmine is a widowed single mom and successful sports agent , alone since losing her husband in a car accident; Judith is questioning whether her long marriage has reached an end point; Erin is a young woman basically left at the altar. There are other characters, enhancing the stories of these women as they begin to share their own stories in the book club. I recommend for readers of women’s fiction, and hank NetGalley for the ARC.
This was a fun read with an ensemble cast making it easy to find a character to relate for or root for. I love multiple points of view so that aspect worked well for me. All four women are at a turning point in their lives and are experiencing some sort of drama and it was sweet to see them lean on each other during hard times. A book club being how they all knew each other was fun and I found myself wishing I was a part of one with such endearing people.
This is my first book by Wendy wax, and I absolutely loved it! I love the quirkiness the characters provided in the Story. It sort of reminded me of that book club movie that came out a few years ago. I loved the separate story lines it made the story fly by
Okay so this story didn't keep my attention and the writing was distracting for me. I had high hopes but couldn't get over it.
the writing style is just not for me, the story didn't grip me or hold my interest unfortunately. perhaps for another reader.
I've found that you can always count on Wendy Wax to deliver an engaging novel with multiple unique female characters with diverse perspectives, that also draws on how those same very different people come together and find common ground that unites them. The Break-Up Book Club is no different.
Jazmine, Judith, Sara and Erin are the four main characters, but there are several minor characters (Dorothy, Meena and Annell) that also play a major part. The book club held at Annell's bookstore Between the Covers is the connecting factor for all the women. Each character is at a unique point in her life, both in age and relationship status, and the author handles all of those stories in a genuine and relatable manner. The Break-Up Book Club is really a beautiful story of friendship, resilience and strength.
It is sometimes challenging to keep all the characters straight, but I believe that might have been because I kept having to put the book down and pick it back up again (not by choice), and if I had been able to read it in fewer sittings, I think that might not have been an issue. Either way, I enjoyed this novel and this unique cast of characters. I'm hoping there might be a sequel in the future so we can see how these ladies continue to grow and change.
