This is my first Kim Vogel Sawyer book and wooow why haven't I been reading her books? I totally love the cover (it sold it for me ) and darn that story and that turn I never saw coming was worthy it. So this book tells the story of a youth pastor Jase who has been through a lot who moves to Kansas and his relation with the community (Lori and Kenzie) and the brownies we all wanted to eat. This is a swoon-worthy romance that also touched on acceptance , love, community and patience I related a lot to Lori who was so bubbly, friendly ,overly exerted herself and who indulged in overeating as a way of feeling worthy and all. I highly recommend this book and huge thanks to the publisher for my ARC
This by far one of the best books I have read this year. Jase is a youth pastor that moves to Kansas. His new church leads him on a remarkable journey with new friends Lori and Kenzie. Without knowing it, God intertwines their lives together in one big way. I hope there is a second book to this one someday.
Kim Vogel Sawyer is one of my very favorite authors & this book did not fail to be a page turner! I had a hard time putting it down once I started it! Jase Edgar has taken a position as a youth pastor in Kansas. He mainly takes the job to get a fresh new start after being in an accident with his fiance, Rachel, who passed away in the accident. After the accident, Jase also lost the ring he was planning on giving to Rachel.
Lori Fowler works at the local fabric store but when the store has to cut employee hours to stay afloat, she also takes the position as the custodian at the church Jase works. She and her dad have had their challenges ever since her mom died when Lori was 12.
Kenzie is young woman who works with Lori at the fabric store. She left her Amish background to live in the English world but she weaves things out of recycled clothes as a mission to help others. Kenzie finds a ring in one of the pairs of jeans that she was given to use as fabric for her projects.
Each of the characters have their challenges they need to work through with God's help and alongside good friends.
Thank you to the publisher, WaterBrook, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of this book. It is actually one of the best books I have ever ead and one that I could easily read again!
Jase Edgar who is a youth minister lost his finance in a car crash. He moves to Kansas to starts over. He struggles with his past being in foster care and shuffled around. He meets Lori Fowler who works in a quilt shop but due to the shop slowing down she takes a position at the church as a custodian. Lori struggles with her life. After she loses her mother her father becomes verbally abusive. This is a beautiful story of forgiveness and moving on. Will these two wounded souls be able to move on and find love. I love all of Kim Sawyer Vogel books and this was no different. Hard to put down till the book was read.
Growing up in the foster care system, Jase Edgar always dreamed of one day starting his own family. But his fiancée's untimely death shattered his plans. Moving to Kansas and serving as a youth minister should be a fresh start, but he can't seem to set aside his doubts about God's goodness long enough to embrace his new life.
Newly-appointed church custodian, Lori Fowler is battling her own challenges. Her strained relationship with her father and her struggles with overeating convince her she's not worthy enough for love. When an Amish weaver enlists their help locating the owner of a ring found among the donated clothing she uses as fabric, Jase and Lori find themselves drawn to each other. But will they be able to release the past and move forward from this moment into a joyful future?
I didn’t expect what I was given with this book. Great read! Ms. Sawyer conquers some tough concepts in this book but it doesn’t ever feel heavy or sad. It has me thinking about things long after I turned the last page. Highly recommended.
FROM THIS MOMENT by KIM VOGEL SAWYER is a lovely romance novel with some depth and an encouraging Christian message.
The story takes place in the small community of Bradleyville Texas, with the arrival of the new youth pastor, Jase Edgar, who is merely going through the motions after losing his beloved fiancée in a car accident together with their vision for the future. He battles to see God as his Father with good plans for his life as the Bible says in Jeremiah 29:11, having been taken away from his abusive father and growing up in foster care.
Kenzie Stetler, who was brought up Amish, now has a desire to tell her family back home about salvation in Christ and the grace of God.
Kenzie's best friend, Lori Fowler, suffers from rejection which leads to compulsive eating in spite of her being rather plump. When her mother died her father started attacking her verbally which makes her feel unworthy and unloved.
There is a lot more to the story than this, and there are many more delightful characters, but it is basically a reminder to us of the goodness of God and His incredible love for His children.
I was given a free copy of the book by WaterBrook & Multnomah. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

There aren't many books by Kim Vogel Sawyer that I haven't enjoyed immensely, so when I saw that this one was available, I jumped at the chance. It's a strong five star book that really touches the heart in so many ways.
One thing I really enjoyed about the book is that the romantic couple isn't obvious from the start, and if the reader doesn't look at the book blurb first, there is a bit of suspense of whom will be romantically involved. This book is NOT a smarmy-marmy romance either. It is a quiet growth of love coming out of friendship. I am hoping this is the first of a series, because I want to know that someone finds Kenzie and falls in love with her heart.
The overarching theme of the book is grace through Jesus Christ, and the working of the Holy Spirit in each Christian's life. There could have been more details about Jase's years in the foster system and it would not have detracted from the story at all. Lori's life with her father after her mother's death was handled with care and diplomacy. The book builds up to Lori's reconciliation with her father after his emotionally abusive anger toward her.
The crown jewel of the book is Kenzie's desire to tell her family about God's grace surpassing all of the rules they live by in the Amish community that she left years ago. She found that Jesus' death on the cross paid for all of her sins on her Rumspringa and accepted that grace. Kenzie is such a sweet girl, she needs her own spotlight in another book.
This book is populated characters the reader just wants to get to know and befriend. The church is one that I would want to belong to and be involved with.
Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and a pan of Kenzie's Dutch chocolate brownies.
Waterbrook/Multnomah and NetGalley.com provided the copy I read for this review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Kim Vogel Sawyer, author of "From This Moment," does a good job of setting up the backstory of her main character, Jase. Having grown up in the foster care system, then losing his fiancee, Jase seems to be an unlikely person to become a youth pastor. However, the small Kansas town he moves to does a wonderful job of making him feel loved and comfortable. He finally has a home, and his budding relationship with Lori certainly helps as well!
I have to admit that I was expecting Jase and Kenzie to get together, and never really saw much interest on Jase's part toward Lori. I also felt that Kenzie was written a little unrealistically. Overall, however, I thought this book was cute and it was easy to read.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
