The thing I"ll say about this one is that it is full of feels. The story begins with Frankie who runs a movie memorabilia shop that started with her late mother. She then receives a package with a picture that makes her relaize she might not know her mother's full story. Frankie then heads off to explore what this picture means and moreso who her mother was.. The story that follows is then Frankie's exploration of the past and the present to get to know her mom better as well as those around her. While definitely a character-driven tale, it was also one that kept me reading because I was drawn into the secrets and truths Frankie was discovering. This was a "beach/summer read" with depth, and I just loved it!
This was a sweet book. I loved seeing how Frankie grew and changed throughout the book. The setting was dreamy too! Get me to cape cod!
It's a perfect book to read on a summer vacation by the pool getting away from the real world with lots of romance. A super fast and fluid reading about what it's like to love in the United States under an impeccable test. With two timelines in parallel, you live multiple lives as you turn the pages. Sensational!
Surprisingly good read for a debut and a step up for a beach read designation. This has it all, great characters, old family secrets and a fun, full of life setting. Look forward to another book by Montgomery.
This book was a phenomenal romance! I was anxious to turn the pages to see what happens next!! Character development was outstanding and the descriptive words used had me pulled in from page one. I can’t wait for more by this author!
I really enjoyed this read, it had multiple layers with twists and turns. I thought this would be a straightforward story but it was really deep and thoroughly enjoyable.
I loved this book! I found it really well written, I was actually surprised that it was it was a debut novel. I would love to read more by this author. I really liked the drama in this story, it kept the story moving along. The flashbacks to the past were nicely done and blended well with the present. Highly recommended!
Frankie is trying to get through the death of her mother and keep their business of selling Hollywood memorabilia alive. When a mysterious package arrives, her world is tilted and she has to scramble to find the truth. This was a fun read with mystery and old Hollywood.
Due to a family illness, and unexpected events, I am very far behind in writing my reviews.I found my self reading one book after another without writing the review -- that was a big mistake. I did enjoy this book very much. I happily give it 4 stars.
I loved this book. The characters were well-defined. The story held my interest. There were some good twists and turns. Like others, I am impressed that this is a debut novel. Here's hoping for more.
A Summer to Remember is such a heartwarming book. It was as though Erika Montgomery wrote it specifically for me; each chapter began with a quote from one of my favourite movies, grabbing me, compelling me to read just one more page. I loved the pace of the book - how we moved effortlessly between past and present; how each section offered glimpses into the heart of the story. The characters had such depth; the palpable chemistry between Gabe and Frankie, the tangible longing between Louise and Russ. This story is beautifully written. Thank you NetGalley for my copy. My comments and opinions are my own.
You know when you’re reading a book and you’re 1000% sure you’ve figured out the plot twist so you read slower and get all “meh”?
Um, yeah … this book smacked that smugness right off my face. I was wrong. So wrong.
I’m a sucker for Hollywood themed books. I’m a dreamer, what can I say. A Summer to Remember was the perfect Hollywood, but not Hollywood, book. I fell in love with Frankie immediately. I wanted to hug Frankie and thank her for her earnestness. She felt so real.
I think I could read a whole book with Frankie, Gabe, Louise and Russ.
This was a moving novel! It felt like the perfect book to read as summer is leaving. There are different layers to the story as the past is revisited, alternating with the present time. Frankie has decided to go to Cape Cod to see if she can learn more about her mother. She meets some people who knew her mother back when she lived there. Frankie discovers even more than she expected as secrets are revealed about her mother and her friends from so long ago. Everyone’s lives will change as the truth is revealed.
UGH. My heart is gushing. What an unexpected yet pleasant surprise when I picked up A Summer to Remember by Erika Montgomery. A Summer to Remember is by definition a perfect summer read and one that kept me up way past my bedtime. I thought that I had jumped into discovering unwanted family secrets riddled with Hollywood drama but instead I found a story of love, romance, family sacrifice, passion, and so much more. The story is so well written, full of descriptive detail, and imagery that transports you back and forth between past and present to truly understand the depth of three families being brought together. I laughed, I cried. But in the end, I am left with so much love and hope. Thank you Erika Montgomery for this one! So worth it.

Frankie owns a movie memorabilia shop on Hollywood Boulevard. She worked there with her late mother and people come from all over to buy her memorabilia. One day a package comes for her from her mom's boyfriend and inside she sees pictures of her mother with Glory Cartwright and Glory's husband, Mitch. Glory was a famous movie star who started a film festival on the island of Cape Cod. Slowly Frankie starts to piece different things together about her mother and then more questions arise. She wants answers, so she heads to Cape Cod to get them. While there she meets Louise, who runs the festival and while there, Frankie learns more about her mother and her connection to Glory. Montgomery also gives readers flashbacks to explain how the festival came about and how Glory, a Hollywood star, ended up at Cape Cod. Erika Montgomery's debut, A Summer to Remember, will especially be appreciated by people who enjoy beach reads filled with not only family secrets, but some of that Old Hollywood magic.
I really liked the character of Frankie in A Summer to Remember. Her memorabilia shop was fascinating and I enjoyed the descriptions of her store, her clients, and what she was selling. She's in a bad place though. Her mother died, her boyfriend dumped her, and the rent just went up on her store. When it rains, it pours. Once she gets the package with the letters and photos, she starts to wonder what this is all about. Why was her mother with Glory? She also wants to get these letters back to their rightful owners, so she packs her bags and off to Cape Cod she goes. In the back of her mind, Frankie has always wondered who her biological father is, so that is also an unanswered question she hopes she might get some clues to.
Louise's chapters take us mostly back to when the festival started and some memories about Glory, Mitch, and more. I didn't always like the jump from present day to the past in A Summer to Remember, but her chapters were definitely necessary as they fill in the blanks about Glory and how the festival started in Cape Cod.
A Summer to Remember is your average, breezy beach read, but what separates it from the usual is the Old Hollywood descriptions in it. I liked that aspect of the novel and even how the author included famous quotes from movies prior to each chapter's beginning. Also, I think Montgomery brought the historical parts to life very well while also capturing the slower pace of Cape Cod verses Hollywood.
So, if you are a movie buff who is looking for a light beach read, I urge you to check out A Summer to Remember. It had me wanting to re-watch some of my favorite classic movies.
A Summer to Remember reminds me of a classic love story, one that would make a great movie! Frankie works in a little shop selling movie memorabilia. She opened this shop with her mother who has since passed, so it holds even more meaning. (think You've Got Mail sort of vibe) The shop carry's all kinds of treasures for all sorts of customers. One day a package arrives and inside Frankie finds an old photo of her mother with a famous Hollywood couple dated the year before Frankie was born. What does this mean and who would leave this for her? This single photo will send Frankie on a journey for answers to many questions about her family, her mother, and what this couple may mean to her.
I enjoyed reading and learning about old Hollywood, memorbelia and the connections made to movies. I love movies and enjoy remembering where I was and who I watched the movie with and the emotions that were felt.
Frankie owns a memorbelia store which she used to run with her mother. When her mother passes away she has to make an important decision of what to do with the store. She finds letters written by her mom. On the quest to deliver the letters and to to discover who her father is she uncovers her mother's secrets about her past and helps Frankie figure out what she wants to do with her life.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I thought that this would be a summer read that I would enjoy during the summer months, but for some reason I did not get too interested in this one. It involves a mystery element about the protagonist’s father which usually is a plus for me, but I just found this novel to be too slow. Unfortunately by the end, I was not much invested in the conclusion and I can’t exactly say why because it is not as if Montgomery is not a solid writer. 3 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a copy for review.
3.5 stars-
Frankie Simon runs a Hollywood memorabilia store with her mother. After her mother's death, she finds some unopened letters and a picture of her mother with a famous Hollywood couple on Cape Cod. Looking for answers, she heads to Cape Cod during a big film festival to find out what her mother was doing there and how she knew these famous people. There are many secrets revealed leading Frankie to wonder how well she knew her mother.
This story was populated with interesting characters and I loved the setting.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC in return for my review.
What a fun debut novel. “A Summer to Remember” is a good beach read. It is filled with the glamour of old Hollywood. The protagonist Frankie goes on a journey discovering her past. The story is told in duel timelines. I throughly enjoyed this book.
