For some unknown reason I can't find it on my kindle , and I know I downloaded it. So when I can I'll get the series to read .

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

I am sad to say that this book has been on my reading shelf for far too long! I really enjoyed the book, and will definitely read some more by Gregg again!

Dark Falls Gregg Olsen
I've read over half of this book and it hasn't gripped me, so putting it aside for a later date.

I'd previously read The Hive by the same author, and picked this up as that was okay. Silent Ridge, alas, is not. This is the third book in a series, and if you have not read the first two, it's going to be a real problem. At least it was for me.

Police are called to the scene of a gruesome murder. Wait, before we begin that, let me say that this is primarily written in first person, present tense. I really do not like that. I persevered, though, and Detective Carpenter shows up at the scene. We immediately know she has some kind of connection to the victim, because we're flat out told that she does. Does she tell anyone, so she can be restricted from investigating it due to her emotional compromise. As we all know for maverick cops, they do their own thing and basically flaunt everything there is about proper law enforcement and investigations.

I absolutely do not like this character. She is by turns whiny and angry. She lies to the people around her, and is paranoid even at the best of times. Without even an ounce of investigation being done, she's decided that the murder has to be something related to her childhood. In fact, there are many, many, many, ad nauseum instances of connecting every single thing to her terrible childhood. This woman should be on desk duty at best, with mandatory psych evals once a quarter at least.

All of that psych stuff, after awhile, starts to feel like filler. There was no tension because we get the murderer's scenes, too, so the mystery slowly drains out like one of those blow up kiddie pools that springs a small leak. Worst of all, Carpenter seems to wallow in the childhood trauma, and after awhile, I just didn't care because it was boring. I wanted then to catch the murderer before I gave up on the book (which, to be honest, happened multiple times)

If you're pressed fr something to read, or you're a fan of the series, you might like this. Sorry, but I did not. it took months for me to finish it, something completely abnormal for me.

Two out of five stars, and a vow not to read anything else in this series.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the reading copy.

This book is number 3 in the series so I highly recommend you read the others first. There is alot of characters involved so you will have to keep your attention on whats going on.

If you haven't read the first 2 books in this series I think this book would be difficult to read. Luckily, I've read them. Megan Carpenter is a first rate police detective with a horribly, dark past. The latest murder to cross her desk is a woman she knows from her past and she's been skinned alive. I think this book is a brilliant psychological thriller and I certainly look forward to more in this series.

Not a standalone book, this is firmly part of a series that needs to be read in order. This is a quick read and the characters are strong with plenty to develop.

Reading Between the Wines book review #45/115 for 2021:
Rating: 3.5 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 📱: Silent Ridge
Author: Gregg Olsen
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
RELEASED on December 4, 2020!!!
Recommended to readers who like a series with a kick butt woman lead.

Sipping thoughts: Silent Ridge is the 3rd installment of the Detective Megan Carpenter book. I picked the book up before realizing this. I was able to get through the book as Olsen gave plenty of flashback references. I still wish I would have read the first two because I still felt I was missing out on something. With that said, I really liked the mystery behind who is stalking Megan. She is the kind of friend I would love to have to watch my back. I would have liked the end to have been tied up a little tighter but, hey, I guess that leaves space for another book.

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @Bookouture for an advanced copy of @SilentRidge

This was a good read. It was well written and the plot was suspenseful and kept me hooked. It was entertaining as well. I do feel I would have connected with Megan more if I had read it as a series. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the copy.

This is the second book I read in this series and it confirms what I thought about the first book: gripping, entertaining and well written story.
I love Megan and how she works. She's a well developed characters as all the others.
The mystery is solid and kept me guessing.
Can't wait to read the next installment, highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

After the events of Snow Creek and Waters Edge, we have a pretty good feel for Detective Megan Carpenter and her erstwhile sidekick, Ronnie. Megan is as caustic and snippy as ever; consider it part of her charm. Ronnie still isn’t used to all of Megan’s quirks. I really dig Megan’s inner thoughts. For example, a gunpoint confrontation with another character later in the book leads to Megan thinking about what she should have said to the person – contrasted with what she actually said. The author now has a signature style of plotting the story, and it’s just as successful as the first two books. Again, no spoilers, but he does keep it fresh, even as it’s still about Megan. If you haven’t read the first two books, I would definitely recommend starting at the beginning now, before the series gets too deep. I love this series but at the same time it does take a certain suspension of belief to follow. Megan’s backstory is improbable and it comes back in a big way when a woman who helped her in the past is murdered. I have enjoyed the character development and the author beginning to allow Megan to have a life. And I love her new partner Ronnie. Enjoyable story and with an ending that lets us know more is to come.

I was given a copy by Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review.

This is book #3 of the Detective Megan Carpenter series and can be read as a stand-alone. It’s a mystery, police procedural with a strong female protagonist. The action begins very quickly, Detective Megan arrives to a scene of a home belonging to woman whose brutally murdered. She recognizes the woman as someone who had helped her in the past and the killer left photographs of a teenage Megan! She has an idea who this killer may be, but things do get twisty. This is intense and suspenseful, as with the author’s other books. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and the author for a gifted copy. This is my honest review.

Honestly this was my least favorite book in the series and I felt there were a lot of unanswered questions.

I enjoy Gregg's books but would've liked a few more answers.

A woman is found dead in her bathroom, with the skin removed from her body. Two photos are left on the crime scene. One old, one new, detective Megan Carpenter is on both.

Megan has a past. Everyone does. But hers is a little bit different. And she doen't want anyone to know about it. Finding the photos, she knows she is hunted. Because the dead woman was part of the past she buried long time ago.

This time Megan has a partner, Ronnie, and learns how to work in a team. She isn't used to depend on others, she doesn't attach to things and people. But maybe, it's time to change that. For her own sake.

I mentioned previosly that this was the third book in the series. It can be read as a stand alone, but I think it's better if you start from book one. Just to know Megan better. I liked the story, I liked the way Megan handled the situation, I liked her relationship with Ronnie. What I didn't like, was the killer's point of view. Not that I didn't like it at all, but I think that it revealed too much and too early. Part of the mystery was gone. And because of that, somehow the ending was predictable. But that is just my opinion. Overall, I liked the book and will be in search of Gregg Olsen's other books.

Actual rating: 3.5 / 5.

Megan Carpenter has made remarkable changes to her life, including becoming one of the best detective the Jefferson County Sheriff's office has ever had. However, she was not always known as Megan. This fact nearly begins to show itself when a woman has been brutally murdered and Megan realizes she knew the woman. What is more is that photographs were left at the scene, including one of Megan when she was a teen.

Megan is sure that the killer is after her and is leaving bread crumbs that lead directly to Megan and to a past she is desperate to keep secret from everyone including her colleagues. Not only must Megan search for answers at a rapid pace she is also getting to know her new partner, Deputy Ronnie Marsh. Can the two of them not only solve the murder that has taken place but also handle clues that lead back almost twenty years previously?

All while Megan is working the case, she is leading her own investigation, done in such a way to keep secrets from those working with her, including lying almost every step of the way. Can she get to the bottom of the murder and protect the past she is desperate to keep buried?

Having read the first two books in this series, Snow Creek and Water's Edge, I have really gotten to know Megan and her staunch work ethic, attention to detail and the strength she must show to have overcome a horrible past. This book, Silent Ridge, is just as intense as the previous books in this series. This one holds a lot of weight, because it is hair-raising to see what Megan is going through now and how everything she has gained could possibly be lost.

Because of the intensity of the current case and Megan's past, I do think readers would lend themselves well by reading the books in this series in order. As each book is fast-paced readers will no doubt be as drawn is as I was to this one. Especially due to the fact that Megan lied pretty much the entire way through this story, I was eager to see how Megan would overcome the odds of losing everything. This revenge-based story started off with a bang and kept up the pace from beginning to end.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

When they described this book as gripping it was an understatement! Riveting is more appropriate!

I could not put this down, I was invested in Megan Carpenter's life even though this was my first book following her character. This was a roller coaster of emotion as she navigated a stalker turned murderer, someone who knows her former life she's been hiding from. They hunt her down and lure her in by getting to the people closest to her in the worst possible ways. Megan learns she's not invincible and with the help of her new partner in training, Megan discovers who has been trying to destroy her. She begins to realize she's not alone, but there's still some hangups from her former life that elude to this being an issue again in the future.

I read this in two sittings and it was easily an up-all-nighter, because I couldn't stand not knowing who was behind the horror and what Detective Carpenter was going to do about it.

This book is a bit difficult to follow if you've not read preceeding books in the series. A bit dry and procedural in portions, not always paced well. It wasn't a terrible book just not a stand out. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to review this book.
