Dark Falls is the third in the Megan Carpenter series. I enjoyed the first two, but found this one lacking.
Once again, we hear from both Megan and the killer. Megan is called to the scene of a gruesome murder and discovers she knew the woman. Monique Delmont had helped Megan back in her prior life. Now, her good deeds have been punished.
I have to admit that it’s getting a little boring that every case Megan works ties into her personal life. Really? How many folks have been “influenced” by the initial serial killer? The book requires a knowledge from the prior two books and definitely can’t be read as a standalone.
Ronnie, Megan’s reserve deputy is still a hardworking trainee, doing whatever she can to get to be involved. She was one of the bright spots in this book. I’m tired of damaged lead characters and Megan is definitely damaged goods.
The book is fast paced. We know the killer, but Megan does not. So, it’s more the suspense of how she’ll outwit the individual.
My thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of this book.

I've read other books by Gregg Olsen, and Dark Falls does not disappoint.

I liked the relationship between the main character, Megan, and her new partner, Ronnie. Their building friendship and banter are highlighted and written well into the storyline. The characters are three dimensional and all unique. The dialogue is believable, and the storyline kept my interest and had me guessing who was involved. I wanted Megan to open up and trust the chief more, but it was understandable why she had issues. However, it did get a bit repetitive that the character kept mentioning her trauma and her trust issues.

This is my first book by this author and it won’t be my last.
Even though this was book three in a series, I was able to keep Up.
This book had me hooked from page one and I enjoyed the mystery and the fast pace as well as the main character

well written mystery, at times a little confusing with so many characters and back story but overall it kept my interest and was fast reading.

Dark Falls by Gregg Olsen starts with the scene of a murder and continues fast-paced through to the end. I enjoy reading this thriller series and the interactions of the main characters. Dark Falls is the third and deals with Megan's hidden past. If you have not read the previous books, it will not be difficult to follow the focus of this book.
Detective Megan Carpenter is called to a crime scene that proves to be anything but routine. Sheriff Tony Gray approaches Megan's car before she can get out and shows her two pictures that were found at the crime scene. She is surprised to see a recent picture of herself and shocked when Sheriff Gray hands her a picture from her school years during a dark time she has tried to hide. Megan has worked hard to rise above the traumatic childhood she experienced and to make sure no one knows the secrets she has carefully covered. She soon finds out someone from her past is targeting the few people she cares about.
I won't post spoilers, but the threat for Megan is real, her past is closing in on her present, and she must find this killer! I am happy Ronnie is a more active part of the team. I am curious how much of her past Megan will reveal to Sheriff Gray in the next book.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Thank you to NetGalley, Gregg Olsen and Bookouture for giving me the chance to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

Gregg Olsen can do no wrong when he writes a book. This book is fabulous and kept me riveted from the very first few pages.

This is the third book in the Megan Carpenter series. I have not read the first two but was able to read this as a stand alone with no issues. The Author does a great job in giving us glimpses into her background and the other characters in the book.

Dark Falls starts with a murder and the reader quickly learns this is someone that means something to Detective Megan Carpenter. She very soon realizes that not only is she in terrible danger but the people whom she loves and are near to her heart, are also in danger. This book is a page gripper. It is something to savor and read again. I loved it that much. As the reader, I live in Washington state, and the Author does a fabulous job describing the little towns here and the people who populate them.

I've read many Gregg Olsen books, both fiction and nonfiction. Every one of them is a reader's dream, lots of atmosphere, great characters, hidden clues and an ending you will not believe. I have yet to read an Olsen book that was deserved less than 5 stars.

This is the 3rd in the Megan Carpenter series. The prior books give readers some back story that make this read better, but it could be read as a stand alone. Megan is a police detective who has been called to the scene if a gruesome murder. She realizes she knows the victim, then is pulled into the investigation when pictures of herself at a younger age are found on the scene. Creepy. The investigation must follow clues that will finally reveal the rest of Megan's back story. And if you've read any of Gregg Olsen's books, you know it will be a shocker! Dark Falls will keep you reading long after 5 more minutes has flown by and the house has grown quiet. An absolutely fantastic read!

I've read several books by Gregg Olsen and have enjoyed them all. His books are easy to follow and very fast paced. Many times I had to stop reading and didn't want to. I highly recommend this book and anything else that he's written.

Only four stars? Yes,
Why? The only reason is this would not read as a stand alone. It’s definitely the third in a series and books one and two need reading before this one would have its full impact.
Apart from that it’s brilliant
Great story, great characters, great setting, and in the first chapter one of the most gruesome killings I’ve read for years. But it’s not that, that kept me hooked, it’s the pure psychological thriller embedded in this crime fiction novel
Stunning.

Dark Falls byGregg Olsen is the third in the Megan Carpenter series. It begins with Detective Carpenter being called to the scene of a brutal murder. Megan is shock to discover she knows the victim and the murderer left something for her at the crime scene. She knows that someone from her past has found her and knows all about her secrets and what she is trying to hide. This was a great book that I couldn’t put down and I highly recommend it. They say your past can come back to haunt you. For Detective Megan Carpenter, her past might just come back to kill her. And it very nearly does. I am a big fan of this author and this series. This outing just grabbed me and carried me right through to the end in just a few hours. I could not put it down. The plot, the characters, Megan...the whole story was excellent. I am so looking forward to the next in this series. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.

Book three in the Megan Carpenter series and I loved it !
This is a series that’s getting more and more compulsive with each book and as we find out more and more of Megan’s past I found it impossible to put down this instalment and I just love Megan she is so flawed and yet so likeable and that’s all down to the wonderful writing of Gregg Olsen.
So we start with a really gruesome murder and Megan is shocked to find out this is someone from her past, trying hard to not to divulge anything Megan is tasked to solve a case that is really much too close to home. We also once more have characters from previous books my favourite being Ronnie who is again another wonderfully written character and now I can’t wait for the next in one of my favourite series of books.
Highly recommended and a five star read I loved every page and a massive thank to Gregg Olsen please don’t leave it too long till the next.
My thanks also to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Detective Megan Carpenter is called to a brutal crime scene, made worse by the fact she knows the victim. Megan is pretty sure she knows who committed the crime, someone from her past. Someone who has found her again after Megan changed her name, there are a lot of secrets in her past that she must keep. This is a crime thriller. It is part of a series but could be read as a stand alone. For some reason I had trouble getting into this book which is the reason for my 3* review.thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Dark Falls is book three in the Detective Megan Carpenter series and in my opinion the best one yet. Megan is a strong, no nonsense woman. I definitely wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of her! She has a very dark past and it's finally catching up with her. I really like Megan, I love the way she says one thing but thinks another. Dark Falls is a disturbing story that will make you hold your breath and I kept thinking about it when I wasn't reading it. Gregg Olsen has excelled himself with this book.
Thank you NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read this amazing book.

I received an advance copy from the publishers via Netgalley for a honest review.
This was my first book of the author Gregg Olsen and this definitely will not be my last. The pace of the book is that just right spot and while this is a continuation of the series, the author had ensured it can still hold its own as a standalone with enough information about past events and characters. Overall nice piece of police investigation and methods, would be eagerly waiting for the next book.

Detective Megan Carpenter has seen plenty of grisly crime scenes, but her latest is all the more shocking because she knows the victim. Monique had been a savior for Megan years before and now she’s dead, and a picture of a high school aged Megan is left on her body. Megan and her new partner, Ronnie Marsh begin a hunt for the killer, whose identity Megan is sure she already knows. But to keep those around her safe, Megan knows she must keep the secrets of her past buried deep, even as the killer prepares to take another victim
