A 12-year old girl is found clinging to life and your husband is missing and being blamed for the incident. What a way to start off a book! Do you stand by your husband and believe he's innocent or cut ties because he's guilty of this haneous crime?? Everyone has secrets in this books and there are more twists than a rollercoaster at the fair! I definitely was not disappointed by this one or with the shocking ending. I look forward to reading more books by Kerry Wilkinson.

My thanks to Kerry Wilkinson, Bookouture and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Kerry Wilkinson never fails to amaze me. Every time I'm drawn in instantly and I can't put the book down. This was certainly no different and I sped through it! I didn't guess who had hurt Alice or the twists that came along. Will definitely recommend.

I really enjoyed this book. Kerry Wilkinson is always a winner. I felt myself being hooked from the beginning and found it hard to put the book down. I enjoyed the village setting of the book. The only thing I didn't like was the past story with Maddy and her father. I was confused and felt it really didn't mesh. 3 stars.

Even before I open a book by this author I already know that he will surprise me with an unexpected twist to blow me off my socks. Whilst enjoying every book thoroughly, I am also eagerly looking forward to find out which parcel I will be opening just before the finish line;

Living in a small village means that everybody knows everything about everybody and often there is a warm feeling and a lot of support between the villagers. Sometimes though a few busybodies run the whole shebang and support the things they feel will paint the best picture of them.

But, as per usual, pride comes before a fall and you should better take a look at yourself before you judge others.

A great suspenseful story where some people make a u-turn when it fits them better. They often criticise for one thing or another, but don't see what is going on on their own doorstep. 5 stars

Thank you

"What My Husband Did" by Kerry Wilkinson is a gripping psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page. The story follows a woman who returns home to find her husband missing and a 12-year-old girl from the village unconscious in a field behind their house. Rumors start to fly, and everyone is wondering if the woman's husband had something to do with the little girl's condition.

The plot is well-written and filled with twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end. The characters are well-developed, and the author does an excellent job of building suspense and tension throughout the book. The protagonist's inner turmoil and struggles are particularly compelling, as she tries to navigate the dangerous and uncertain situation she finds herself in.

The themes of secrets, lies, and betrayal are woven into the story, adding depth and complexity to the characters and their relationships. The author's writing style is engaging, and the pacing is perfect, with just the right amount of tension and suspense to keep the reader hooked.

What My Husband Did was an enjoyable and engaging read which kept me gripped throughout. I admittedly thought it was going to follow some cliché trends and be predictable, but it didn’t. It skirted around the familiar tropes and followed a different approach that left me guessing – which is all you really want in a mystery, right?

After a young girl is hurt and her husband is both missing and a suspect, Maddy quickly learns that an idyllic village life has its drawbacks. But as the rumours start to spread, it becomes clear her husband isn’t the only one keeping secrets.

For a mystery, the story is relatively slow paced. The majority of the narration is Maddy trying to get her head around what is going on. As it progresses, we follow other narrators that help to fill in some of the blanks. But it didn’t read as exposition; it added to the mystery and tension where more layers of deception are hinted at.

Wilkinson creates an atmospheric environment contrasting a peaceful setting with the violence of the crime being committed. On a few occasions, the extent of the emotions from some characters jarred you from the story and some characters were hard to get a read on. But for the most part, the story comes together well.

As with a lot of mysteries, What My Husband Did is a fairly quick read. But I was drawn in and found myself not wanting to put it down. A definite recommendation.

There are lots of thrillers out there that deal with the same issue and trope and they can get quite samey but I didn’t feel like that with this one, I enjoyed the pace and the plot and it left me racing through the pages

This is one of the best thriller/mysteries I have read in a long time. Up there with Robotham and Griffiths for clever plot line with plenty of unseen bends in the road, this book tells an intriguing tale in such a way as to leave you wondering who to believe. The characters are extremely well drawn, with plenty of secrets uncovered as you get to know them. The writing style is excellent with none of the melodramatics which some authors slip into when covering dark topics. An excellent book and this author, who is new to me, is now on my list of “must reads.”

Told in dual POV, both in 1st and 3rd person, it’s a standalone novel. It was predictable but still I enjoyed it. Also, it was a bit slow and not really a twisty read but the writing’s compelling with a satisfying ending. All in all, I had a good time reading it and hope you like it as well!

This is my review of What My Husband Did.

She was told not to get into a car with strangers…

‘I can give you a lift home,’ the man says. Little Alice tightens the zip of her big red coat. She’s unsure, but the walk will be cold and dark. ‘I’m not supposed to get in a stranger’s car.’ He forces a smile. ‘I’m not a proper stranger, am I?’

Twelve-year-old Alice accepts a ride home in the village from Richard, only to be found later unconscious in the field behind Richard’s home. A little girl has been left for dead, and now Maddie’s husband, Richard is missing, and was also seen by a witness giving Alice a lift.

Rumors circulate and Richard soon becomes a person of interest in Alice’s attack. But where is Richard? Maddie doesn’t know what to believe.

Meanwhile, Alice is fighting for her life in the hospital, and no one will speak to Maddie except the police.

Maddie searches for the truth and her husband’s whereabouts.

The novel is written through a series of flashbacks between past and present, where the reader is left to unravel the mystery. It is a story about how dark secrets from the past can come back to haunt you.

This novel has an interesting plot with believable well-developed characters that will keep you guessing right until the end.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Net Galley for my digital copy.

Maddy lives in a small village with her husband Richard - her former University lecturer.
Theirs is a tight knit community, so when a young local girl is left for dead in a stream nearby, the rumours start.
Richard goes missing at the same time as Alice is discovered and from there on, Maddy’s life begins to unravel.
I am a big fan of Kerry’s writing and this book was no exception. It was tense, the atmosphere was almost creepy in places and it kept me hooked right to the last page.
A great read.

Having read and enjoyed a fair few of this authors books, it wasn’t a difficult choice to decide to read more by this author.

The story plot and characters were very well written, and I really enjoyed getting to know each and every one of the characters.

The story was a good one, well thought out, not too slow or overly fast paced, just right, especially as there is plenty happening within each chapter. I was gripped from start to finish and I literally couldn’t turn the pages fast enough for wanting to see what was going to happen next. Although I had guessed at one of the plot outcomes before it happened, this didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the story as a whole.

This was a great twists and turns thriller/mystery. Maddy's husband is missing and she needs to know if he had anything to do with a 12 year old girl that was found barely alive by a cold creek. The last place she was seen was getting into his car in town. If he didn't do anything to the child, why is he missing? The small town talk goes on, just as small towns tend to do when there is gossip. Maddy is a pretty strong woman and I liked that about her! I thought I had this story figured out, but the ending was totally different than expected, and I enjoyed it!

Little Alice was found face down and bloody in a ditch. Things like this don’t happen in a small, close-knit village like Leavensfield. She’s only twelve years old, who could hurt a child like that? When Maddy’s husband, Richard, doesn’t come home that night, she starts to wonder. Maybe he’s hurt? Or got caught up? Or maybe he had something to do with Little Alice lying in a ditch fighting for her life.
This book was beautifully written. Kerry Wilkinson did a wonderful job at creating what seemed to be “an obvious end” and spinning it around to something you would have not imagined. I kept thinking I had it all figured out and boy was I wrong! I highly recommend this read to all lovers of Psychological Thrillers. He will have you on the edge of your seat, unable to turn to the next page fast enough.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Then - your husband doesn’t come home one night and a young girl is found by the river - barely holding on to life ! You start to question if there is a connection between your husbands disappearance and the discovery of the young girl !
Tongues start to wag as you have to declare your husband missing ! Secrets comes to light and you all but want to hide under a rock as you yourself start to wonder - is my husband responsible???
Secrets, lies and betrayal come into play as with any good thriller!
You will find yourself really feeling for the wife and perhaps even question what you would do if this happened to you …. You won’t believe the truth with this one - wow !!!!!!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Leavensfield is a nice quiet village where everyone knows everyone else and nothing exciting ever happens until the evening when a young girl is found in a stream. Not only was this near Maddy’s house but also that her husband Richard didn’t come home. This book pulls no punches, straight into the plot - no gentle introduction here! I liked it all apart from the end which was a bit of a shocker, the sudden abruptness of it. The village way of life was accurate with one person organising everybody else, the cliques. A good entertaining story that moves along at a good pace but won’t take weeks to get through - exactly how I like my books!
