This is a book about dark secrets we hide to protect ourselves and the ones we love. This book is told by 2 different characters. It was predictable but hey I still liked it. It was full of twists . It had great characters, interesting plots. It is also told in a past and present format. The pace is a bit like a rollercoaster. It started off great , dipped in the middle and picked up at the end.
This was a slow burner for me whilst still being intriguing.
I enjoyed experiencing the layers of village life being peeled back to unveil what goes on behind closed doors. Plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader hooked.
What My Husband Did by Kerry Wilkinson was a fab, fab book that I read in one sitting as I could not put it down. Definitely a page turner for sure. Great characters and a twist I did not see coming.
Loved this! So good, so exciting, so gripping and great story. Can't wait to read more by this author - absolutely brilliant.
The book opens with a young girl getting a lift home in a stranger’s car. Maddy returns home that same evening to find that Richard, her husband is not home from work. He hasn’t text her and when he doesn’t reply to her calls and texts she begins to worry about his whereabouts. A neighbour then knocks at her door asking her to ring for an ambulance as he has found the body of a young girl, Alice, by the edge of a stream. She has been left for dead but is still alive. After a few days when Richard still is missing the rumours start to reach her that Alice was last seen getting intro his car. Maddy can’t believe that her husband would be responsible for the attack on Alice but soon all the villagers are turning against her. When she starts looking into Richard’s movements on the day of the attack she discovers that he has been lying to her and harbouring secrets. Then when Richard’s car is found abandoned with Alice’s headband beside it she doesn’t know what to believe. The chapters are told by Maddy in the present and from her childhood, which was quite sad. This is a great psychological thriller with believable characters and a tense and twisty plot. Certainly kept me guessing, a brilliant read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
A neighbor comes to Maddy's door, asking her to call the police because he's just found the body of twelve-year-old Alice lying in a stream. As the little girl clings to life in her hospital bed, more and more questions are being asked -- most importantly, where is Maddie's husband and why was Alice seen getting into his car that night?
This domestic thriller gets off to a slow start, mixing in chapters about an incident from Maddy's childhood. Once the plot actually started to twist, it held my interest and I felt like the ending was worth the read.
Richard and Maddy live in a small town, which is not very private. Alice is a twelve year old girl who was found nearly dead right by Richard and Maddy's house. Now Richard is missing and everyone suspects he has something to do with Alice's condition since she was last seen in Richard's car. Full of twists and turns.
Thanks Netgalley for the advance ecopy and the publisher.
Another brilliant book by Kerry, each book holds their own. Kerry has a unique type of writing and I enjoy every book I have read
Lots of twist and turns, can't figure out what is going on to near the end. Kept me interested in knowing what is going to happen. I like it and defenetly recommend this book.
When 12 year old Alice is found unconscious people start suspecting Maddie's husband Richard who conveniently has gone missing. Maddie though is pretty sure that Richard is innocent but it does not help matters when witnesses recall seeing him giving Alice a lift. While Alice fights for her life in the hospital Maddie tries to piece things together and find Richard before the town does.
What My Husband Did by Kerry Wilkson is a slow burner psychological thriller . This book was certainly not what I was expecting, a story with interesting characters , good plot and unexpected twists and turns at the end made it an entertaining read.
I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.
Maddy & Richard live in a quiet village where everyone knows everyone's business. One evening she gets back from a village meeting she is surprised her husband isn't back. There is knock on the door. A neighbour says he has found the body of a local lass just up the road & to call the emergency services. The girl, Alice is not dead but she is very seriously ill. Maddy cannot understand where Richard has gone & when the rumour mill reveals that Alice was last seen getting into Richard's car she finds herself persona non grata in the village. However she knows what it is like when someone seems to be guilty & isn't, so she tried to cling to her belief that he is not involved.
The story is told in the present & when Maddy is growing up. I did find Maddy a bit of a pain at times she was determined to believe in Richard although they didn't seem to have that close a relationship. It was an enjoyable read. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
This was a very good book that kept my attention to the end. I thought the ending was a bit of a surprise, but I guess I should have expected that.
Alice is 12-years-old when she's found nearly dead close to the house of Maddy and Richard. When police show up at their house, Maddy is told that the girl was last seen getting in Richard's car. Where is Richard? He hasn't come home from work ....
The police question Maddy incessantly but she knows Richard would never hurt a child ... would he?
Maddy has secrets of her own. What she knows about Richard's first wife could prove his innocence ... but he's still missing. He is on the run .. or is there something more sinister happening?
I have read many of this author's books. I have always found them well written with credible characters that remain in my head long after I've finished reading. I was not disappointed with this one. It's full of twists and turns that lead to a shocking conclusion.
Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
A little girl Alice is found in a ditch half dead.....she is seen getting into Maddy’s husband, Richard’s car the night she is found and now he has disappeared.
The beginning was intriguing, the twisty ending was great! It was everything in between that did nothing for me. I trudged through the entire book hoping the ending would be good....and it was. But this took me forever to read.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for my copy.
This was a gripping, brilliantly plotted storyline that had me hooked!
I loved the way the narrative was told from both a past and present point of view, allowing us to learn more about the characters and their own unique personalities, and also what could potentially be motives!.
This was a brilliantly paced book that was full of suspense and had me guessing right to the end.
A decent book, not sold on all the plot aspects (some of the police behaviour was a bit off for me) but enjoyable nonetheless.
While I felt this was a bit on the slower side, I was able to finish it, so I would give it 3-4 stars. I think if you are a big fan of this author, you’ll likely love this book. It is well written with great character development, but I love fast paced! It did provide thrills, chills, shocks, and twists! I do highly recommend, as I think most will enjoy this read!
A brilliant psychological/suspense from a master storyteller. Kerry Wilkinson is on my best author list and he certainly didn't disappoint with this book. It's classic KW, grabs you from the beginning and before you know it you realise you are at the end of the book. The plot was gripping and the characters awesome. The twists took me by surprise and I really thought I knew who did the crime but I was completely wrong. It's a sad book in parts but OMG KW certainly knows how to keep the reader turning the pages. I would highly recommend this brilliant author.
I would just like to say Thank You to Netgally and Bookoutre for the ARC.. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the arc of this book by Kerry Wilkinson.
This follows Richard and Maddy to who settle down and have perfect lives until one day Alice whom is 12 years old is found beaten and lying face down in a ditch, and her husband and gone missing???? Hmmm aint that a coincidence in itself.... This was a compelling, 4 star read, it had me hooked between the past and present POV narratives and as unravelling mystery of what happened to Alice and Richard! I couldn't put it down!
Recommend highly. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Such a good, clever read. It seems like the story is all tied up in the first chapter but there is much more. We know Richard is seen taking a little girl who ends up near death in a stream. Maddy his wife insists he would not harm her however, he is missing. On her quest to find her husband she discovers secrets and lies. A good, fast read and and ending I did not anticipate. A good read.
