Unfortunately, I don't this book was for me. The writing felt repetitive, with lacklustre characters and boring sex scenes. The few sections that would draw me in were quickly squashed for a woman acting weak and then having mediocre sex.

Finding a Lisa Jackson title I had not previously read was a welcome surprise. Finding two short stories in one book was a gift! Ms Jackson can be counted on to give her readers a great cast of characters set in a community that is realistic. She throws in some tension and keeps the pressure on the charcaters to solve life's problems. Both of these stories pack a big read into a short amount of time. Treat yourself.

This one just didn’t ‘grab’ me. I’ll try it again another time. It just seems to take too long to get to the ‘meat’ of the story.

This book is actually a combination of two previously released short stories, Midnight Son and Renegade Son. I did not realize this or would not have decided to read the “book.” In typical Lisa Jackson fashion, there is a mystery with some romance. Unfortunately, as much as I typically enjoy Lisa Jackson books, this one just did not keep my attention and I could not get invested in the story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Zebra Books for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

I first want to say or I guess I have to admit that this is my first approved request on net gallery. I was so excited for it to be a book from one of my favorite authors Lisa Jackson.

The following book is actually too short stories Renegade Sun and Midnight Sun. I have to admit that I am not a fan of short stories and that I also didn’t read the previous release stories to the short stories.

I believe since these are short stories they did not include all of the excitement that I expected.

My favorite would have to be Renegade Sun. I quite enjoyed Danni’s character she was very spunky full of energy and made me want to continue reading. Of course since it is a short story I felt as though it needed more substance or a sequel to it it just fell a bit too short.
Now with Midnight Sun I have to say that while I was reading this I was often annoyed with both of the main characters. Ashley come on grow a backbone please! And Trevor I feel like he would cry if he did not get his way. Such a manipulator. And the ending… what happened to Claud?????? I understand that I guess there has to be some type of diversity in characters but I would not be reading another book with a character like Ashley’s she was a bit too weak.

………………..
Thank you very much Lisa Jackson, Kensington BookS, Zebra, and NetGallery for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Two stories in one .....

Renegade Son
Single mother Danielle Summers is convinced her ranch is slowly being sabotaged. Newcomer Chase McEnroe insists she should trust him. But Dani’s suspicion that Chase is in league with her enemy is complicated by a secret from his past. Can she put aside her concerns about his potential deception to find out who is behind these awful acts?

Midnight Sun
There’s nothing secretive about the hostility between two of Oregon’s leading lumber families. The feud has been long, ruthless, and bloody, and Ashley Stephens and Trevor Daniels are still reeling from the damage it’s caused. Now, eight years after their relationship ended, Trevor discovers that not only is his bid for a senate seat in jeopardy, but his life may be too. And the future of both may lie with Ashley . . .

Well known for her Romantic Suspense books, these two did not live up to her normally high standards. They are both well-written, but the content left me disappointed. The blend between romance and suspense was tilted into a lot of graphic intimate moments, taking away from the mystery/suspense. I found myself skipping page after page trying to find something I found interesting. This is being hyped as psychological thrillers .. I don't think so.

Many thanks to the author / Kensington Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of MISTRUST. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

I really like Lisa Jackson's new works but I was not a fan of these two stories. The first was Renegade Son which involves a single mother names Danielle Summers, who is convinced her ranch is slowly being sabotaged. She meets Chase McEnroe, who seems to be on her side but he is also working with the enemy. The second story is Midnight Sun, which involves the hostility between two of Oregon’s leading lumber families. Ashley Stephens and Trevor Daniels are still reeling from the damage it caused their relationship. After eight years, Trevor discovers that not only are his political aspirations in jeopardy, but his life may be too. Both involve Ashley Stephens. As I said earlier, I was definitely not a fan of these stories.

The two stories are definitely more romance than mystery, not that that’s a bad thing. The stories are sweet and dirty without being filthy. They are both quick reads.

Would you be willing to give love another chance? This book is two novels Renegade Son & Midnight Son. I enjoyed the both as the women are two strong characters that don't back down. But can the men handle not being in charge?
Will they find the happiness that they all deserve?
A good read.
I was lucky enough to receive a copy from Netgalley & the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

I absolutely loved this book, it’s two complete stories in one. Loved the suspense level of both books. I was emotionally connected from the beginning and couldn’t stop reading. In the first, Danielle (Dani) is a single Mom and loved how we’re not sure who’s sabotaging her land. Loved how quickly Chase and Dani fall for each other, but can she trust him? In the second story, loved how we’re not sure what went wrong with Ashley and Trevor. Who’s family did wrong? Loved how they realize they still loved each other, but can they trust each other? I actually had some tears for them and glad they got their happy ever after. This book is worth re reading and I highly recommend it.

This book contains previously published Lisa Jackson books. As always the books are well written and easy to read. For me though the books are more romance than thriller/suspense, but it doesn't detract from the quality of writing.

Distrust by Lisa Jackson

Vintage Silhouette novels published in 1985 and 1987 compiled together under compilation copyright by Kensington Publishing Corp.

The two stories have the feel of the past and as I remember the 1980’s well knew they were true to the times and to that writing style. If you are looking for two books in one to read that will take you back to evil doers doing their best to make money without conscience, enjoy a second chance romance, like the thwarting of bad guys, and prefer a happy ending then this compilation might just be for you.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington-Zebra for the Copy – This is my honest review.

3-4 Stars

DISTRUST by Lisa Jackson
Renegade Sun & Midnight Sun, these are two stories in this new Lisa Jackson book. Both have been released in the past, but it is great to get two in one now. Lisa has a real gift with romantic suspense and thrillers. Distrust is no exception. Renegade is an enemies to lovers romance. Single mother Danielle, is fighting to keep her ranch afloat while feuding with her neighbor Caleb. Chase is a man who has been hired by Caleb to work a project on his ranch. Sparks are flying between Danielle and Chase.
Ashley and Trevor are a second chance romance in Midnight Sun. Ashley and Trevor had a relationship that ended years before, but the attraction is still there between them. Ashley inherits her father’s logging business after having been estranged from him because of dating Trevor whom her father considered a rival. Her cousin is very unhappy about it as he thought he was in line to inherit it since the estrangement between Ashley and her father. Things start getting dangerous for her. This is a 4 star read.

This book contains two previously released books. In the first story, Renegade Son, single mother Dani is convinced the her wealthy neighbor is trying to sabotage her ranch so she will be forced to sell to him. When Chase comes into her life, Dani isn’t sure she should trust him. He works for the man trying to buy her land. In Midnight Sun, Ashley is trying to run the Timber company her father left her. But her old flame, and son of the competing company comes back in her life with accusations, she knows she needs to prove her family innocent of what he’s accusing, and not let her heart fall for him again.

I love Lisa Jackson’s books, and this one was another I enjoyed. Both stories were good, and had happily ever afters. But some points in the stories failed to hold my interest. I found that the female characters were both strong, and independent, and I liked them. I like the male characters as well. Overall both stories were good, and enjoyable. I’d recommend them. But these books are older books, only re-released. So they do reflect their age.

3.5 Hearts This is two stories previously released but now released together in this story.

I can not recall ever reading a Lisa Jackson book before. There was a lot of suspense. Here is the thing, these stories are very different. I think readers will find they like one more than the other.

In my case I liked the first story more than the second. The characters in both stories were well written and the suspense was interesting.

I am not sure I will become a huge fan of Jackson’s but I can understand why others may be.

2 books in 1.
Renegade Son is the first story in Distrust.
Danielle Summers is single mom who owns a ranch. The neighbor by her wants it and he seems to be shady. Things keep happening on the ranch and she has an idea who is doing it but has no proof. Now his partner comes onto the scene and she doesn't trust him either. But there is chemistry between the 2 of them and he doesn't seem to trust his partner either. Meanwhile her ex, who walked out years ago seems to want to be a part of her son's life but she wants nothing to do with him.

Midnight Sun is the 2nd story in this book.
There’s nothing secretive about the hostility between two of Oregon’s leading lumber families. The feud has been long, ruthless, and bloody, and Ashley Stephens and Trevor Daniels are still reeling from the damage it’s caused.
Now it is 8 years later and Ashley's dad has died and he left the business for her. Trevor is running for the senate and his life seems to be in jeopardy. They had a relationship years ago and neither got over each other.

I enjoyed having 2 short stories in 1 book. This author has written suspense with romance thrown in. The main characters I really enjoyed and with both stories I had an idea of what was going on.

Thank you to Kensington and NetGalley for the ARC to review.

Distrust is a actually two rereleased short stories by Lisa Jackson. Both stories include mystery, intrigue and romance.
Renegade Son was a cute read with fun characters. There was mystery but nothing thriller type mystery. Hmmmm, more of a suspenseful plot.
Midnight Son was ok. I didn’t like it as much as Renegade Son. It just didn’t keep my interest very well.
All in all, interesting stories.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.

As always, an interest-holding introduction of characters and a great read from author Lisa Jackson!

Chase, a down on his luck company owner, closes a deal with shifty Caleb. This, in his last ditch effort to save ownership of his company.

Eventually, while scouting out necessary property that is a MUST buy for the resort project he now is now involved in, Chase meets Dani. She is a staunch landowner who will NOT sell her land to Caleb.. She lets Chase know this with her Winchester!
However, Chase and Dani think about each other after this encounter...

Caleb "suggests" to Chase that getting close to Dani is the ticket to her land...

A wonderful read, as always.

Many Thanks to Zebra Books/Kensington Books and NetGalley for an excellent story.
