After several Secret Service agents are killed and attacked, FBI Special Agent Faith Malone is put in charge of the investigation. Tensions are high between the Secret Service and the FBI, especially after Special Agent Faith realizes that one of the Secret Service agents attacked is Luke Powell who she may or may not have feelings for.
This book has just what I was looking for, lots of suspense mixed in with romance. The plot is solid and well thought out, if a tad bit rushed at the end. The romance between Luke and Faith was awesome and kept me reading. I'm anxious to read the next book in the series!
How do you fight back against an enemy you don't know?
Luke Powell, Secret Service Special Agent narrowly escapes an attempt on his life, a seemingly random attack that is similar to the recent events that took the lives of three of his friends.
FBI Agent Faith Malone is s sharp agent with a rising star, assigned to the case investigating the murder of Luke's friends. Together they must untangle the web of murder and intrigue before anyone else loses their life.
A high stakes suspense that builds over the course of the story, I liked how it balances the suspense with strong character development, as well as what is going on with some of the other agents that we will likely read about a couple of them in upcoming books. A riveting read, with a lot going on, and effective storytelling. Luke has really been through a lot in the last few months and weeks, I loved that he had a great group of friends around him, he is a natural defender, with strong faith, and is willing to fight to bring the killer to justice.
Faith is focused, independent, and a more private person. I liked how working with Luke drew her out, as well as getting to know her sister Hope.
Overall, a well crafted action-packed read with engaging characters and a twisting storyline that had me hooked. I can't wait to see what is next for this series. Perfect for fans of Christian suspense!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This. Book. Is. So. Good.
I am a sucker for a good romantic suspense. I'll nearly always pick up a Christian suspense if I suspect it will be thrilling, have a romantic side plot, or just be plain amazing, aka Lynn H. Blackburn's books.
The wild start of Unknown Threat wasn't what I expected, in fact it was better than anything I expected, from page one readers will be pulled into this exhilarating suspense where you'll be kept guessing from page to page.
Now, as to characters, wow! I love, love, love the characters, all of them. Luke, Faith, Zane, Tessa, Gil, and the cameos of characters from her last series, Dive Team Investigations! The characters together were awesome, I loved the brotherhood, the family likeness of the team, and the matchmaking best friends and mentors who wouldn't stop adding a dash of humor even in the middle of the suspenseful scenes.
The faith content was very slight but it was still there to a point. I liked the lessons that Blackburn added. I do wish there had been more focus on the faith side of things, though there was more faith shown than in some of the recent Christian fiction I've read.
Warnings: Suggestions of a character cheating on their spouse, a stalker of sorts, and other things of the like.
Recommendation: 16/18+
I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
A page turner, completely gripping novel. Seeing and learning how people can work together as a team, protecting and supporting friends. Inspiring look at developing strong relationships even in trials.
Unknown Threat kicks off what promises to be a great series! Full of action and great characters, this story kept me hooked from start to finish. Special Agent Luke Powell, with the US Secret Service, is attacked while jogging with his partner. Several more agents are also attacked, and it becomes clear that someone is targeting the US Secret Services. FBI Agent Faith Malone is put in charge of the case. She must find out who is behind the attacks before anyone else gets hurts.
I love the chemistry between Luke and Faith. They work for different agencies but need to depend on each other to stay alive. Of course, they fight the mounting attraction between them. The other characters add a lot of depth to the story, which I hope means other US Secret Service agents will show up as leads in future stories.
The main thing I love about Unknown Threat is the non-stop action. Lots of life-or-death scenarios kept me flipping pages. I can’t wait for more books in this series.
Overall Rating:
5 stars (I loved it, couldn’t put it down)
Suspense Rating:
5 stars (Non-stop edge-of-your-seat suspense from start to finish)

Story Notes
This newest series start is a fantastic race against time to find a killer with no apparent motive targeting Secret Service agents.
This book was such a welcome cleanse to my palate. I have been reading so many suspense/thriller stories lately that were just not very exciting but this one (literally) blew the others away. I was very intrigued from the first few pages and really wanted to see the hows and whys of this story. Secret Service Agent Luke Powell was a wonderful main male character that challenged our heroine to do her best at her work and provided some snarky comments to make her laugh. FBI Special Agent Faith Malone was a fabulous main female character with plenty of her own snark and a determination to destroy all of Luke's assumptions and opinions about the FBI. She has been given lead on this case that is targeting SS agents and isn't afraid to get in someone's face to get to the truth. Her bulldog attitude might put some off but other federal agents appreciated her candor and relentless drive. The cast of supporting characters provided some much needed levity and I loved the on-going comments from Gil who declared "anyone without holes is not really injured". I cannot recommend this book enough for it's ability to draw you in and keep you guessing at every turn of the page. I was constantly changing my opinions on who was good and who was bad and that made for a most enjoyable read. I will certainly be recommending this book to others and hope they will enjoy this crazy ride as much as I did. I'm really looking forward to the next in the series and hopeful that it will be out soon.
I received this temporary complimentary E-Book from Revell Publishers via NetGalley in order to provide a fair and honest review. I will receive no fiscal compensation for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
Lynn Blackburn's new series Defend and Protect has an explosive new start with Unknown Threat. Secret Service agents are being attacked and killed from an unknown assailant. Since they don't investigate their own the FBI is brought in. These two agencies do not always play nice together.
Luke Powell is with the Secret Service and Faith Malone is with the FBI. They both have their own issues that complicate working together but there is a definite draw to the other. As the danger heats up so does their personal relationship.
Lynn Blackburn's ability to paint a moving picture through words is on full display in this story. You can smell the explosives, feel the tension rising, taste the Cherry Coke, and hear the whisper of footsteps by an intruder. She has given us an interesting variety of characters that I personally look forward to reading more about in the coming books. She has done a masterful job of portraying our defenders. Her in-depth research into these fields makes the story believable and allows the reader to become totally engrossed in the tale.
If you are a fan of crime dramas I think you will enjoy this novel and series. At the end of this book there is a sneak peek of book two and it has me eagerly anticipating it's release. I highly recommend you check this book out.
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
UNKNOWN THREAT is easily the best romantic suspense I read so far this month. Nonstop action, a long-standing feud, and heart-pounding attraction all tied together to make this a book you won't want to put down. Plenty of surprises and twists too, even though who-dun-it seems pretty cut and dried.
I fell in love with the characters in this book and can't wait to read more of the series. Ms Blackburn is relatively knew on the market, but has quickly earned a spot on my favorites list.

I was given s copy free. All opinions are my own.
Another new author for me! This book had me anxiously turning the pages to find out who the murderer was!
The story is set in Raleigh, North Carolina. Luke is a secret service agent that is being targeted and his coworkers/friends are being murdered. Faith is an FBI agent who has been assigned the case. There are so many different puzzle pieces to this suspense and I was surprised at the ending. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I particularly enjoyed the character of Luke. He really cared about the people that were around him. Faith was a go getter and was a little afraid to get close to people but cared deeply about those that she loved.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own!
This was a great start to a promising new series. I just loved Luke, Zane and Gil from the start. Faith and Hope also tugged at my heartstrings. I enjoyed Faith’s struggle to be this perfect, strong FBI agent but still being a bit vulnerable as well.
The action came from every corner and I held my breath quite a lot, not sure if anything will happen to the agents. I did not know who was behind everything and my guess was way wrong. I love it when authors can surprise me like this!
I’m left with wanting to read more to see what will happen within Zane, Tessa and Gil! The author left just enough hints to bait me for future books in this series.
US Secret Service Special Agent Luke Powell knows that his colleague and friend, Thad, was murdered. He knows that someone is targeting him and the rest of his team. He suspects that the events are linked, but he's too close to the situation to see the big picture. And the agents of the Raleigh RAIC are struggling to connect the dots while constantly dodging bullets. Enter FBI Special Agent Faith Malone. Sure, Luke and Faith work well together on interagency events, but Luke has very personal reasons not to trust the FBI and he can't keep his mind from wandering to unprofessional thoughts about Faith. How will they ever figure out who is targeting the Raleigh Secret Service agents? And how will Luke and Faith ever figure out what may or may not be going on between them?
Lynn H. Blackburn can craft romantic suspense that will utterly blow your mind, and she proves it again with the debut of her Defend and Protect series in Unknown Threat. Action and romance combine eloquently to give the perfect balance of "Oh-my-gravy" and "What-the-what?!?" I thought I had it all figured out about half a dozen times before I gave up trying and followed where she took me. Now I sit and anxiously await the release of the next book in the series, because we all know it will be amazing, too!
Thank you to the author and the publisher for allowing me a copy to read and review. All opinions expressed here are my own and are completely genuine.
I LOVED this book! It was just the type of book that I love to read. A book that was clean with no unnecessary bad language, lots of action, suspense and romance. It really did pull me in and made it really hard to put down. I think I may have read this book in record time-ha! The characters in this book are so likable, and I love how you can picture exactly how they look and their personalities as well. Lynn Blackburn does a great job with her characters as well as the story as a whole. I'm hooked and cannot wait until the next book is out!
Fast-paced storyline with just the right amount of romance. The characters were so dynamic and their interactions were so real, never forced. I would say that at times it felt 'too real' i.e. conversations that dragged on and had no real purpose in terms of character development or plot. However the suspense and action of the more intense scenes was so worth the short wait! Definitely recommend to anyone who loves suspense and romance, there's really not many other books like this on the market, and Blackburn's engaging style doesn't fail to disappoint.
Many thanks to Revell and Netgalley for this ARC.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was such a fun read. It is centred around a group of friends and colleagues-becoming-friends-or-something-more in US law enforcement. I usually find the dynamics and camaraderie in these kinds of novels quite intriguing, but Unknown Threat is particularly well done. I have no clue if it is truly representative of the rigours of justice-keeping, and it constantly caught me a bit off guard that these people still had time for fun and romance in the midst of dire situations; but I loved every second of it.
There is something about the way Blackburn writes that delivers a well-blended story. The action is fast-paced but doesn’t distract from the depth of the characters and their development. The plot is timed just right and the romance doesn’t feel like a forced add-on. The author also does a fairly good job of suspense, although I guessed the resolution about two-thirds in.
I definitely recommend this and look forward to the rest of the series. It gets 4.5 stars from me. Many thanks to Revell and the author for a complimentary copy via NetGalley! These opinions are mine.
This is a good suspense book with a touch of romance. It takes you into the world of the FBI and Secret Service. The two agencies must work together to find out who has the secret service agents of Raleigh in their crosshairs. The race is on to find out who is targeting them before more are killed or injured. The story is well told and moves along nicely. The characters are well developed and likable. I wish some had been more developed, but that might be for another novel.
The book is clean and a good read. Thank you NetGalley for an ARC for an honest review.
Unknown Threat is full of explosive action. The main characters (an FBI agent and a Secret Service agent) were interesting characters with some depth of character. Watching the interaction between the two agencies was an interesting angle that I enjoyed. Overall, it was a fun and enjoyable read.
Thank you to Netgalley for this advanced reader copy.
Unknown Threat starts Lynn H Blackburn's new Defend and Protect series off with a bang (or maybe a BOOM would be more accurate?)! I'm a huge fan of Blackburn's books, and, just like her first series, Unknown Threat did not disappoint. Nail-biting suspense, heart-racing romance, and a mystery villain; this book has it all!
US Secret Service Agent Luke Powell doesn't believe the FBI can be trusted,, but that's something he'll have to figure out how to get past when he and his friends are suddenly under attack. The FBI Special Agent assigned to the case, Faith Malone just might be able to help Luke learn to trust while they search for the man who seems bent on killing every Secret Service Agent around.
I loved watching Faith and Luke grow closer throughout the book, both to each other and to God. I also really enjoyed getting to "see" some characters from Blackburn's first series pop back in to help solve the case. I would have appreciated a little more dialogue in some parts versus just telling what happened, but all in all, Unknown Threat was a fantastic book and I cannot wait to see what happens in book two!
*I received a complimentary copy of Unknown Threat through the publisher and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My positive review is not required.
Unknown Threat by Lynn H. Blackburn is the sensational start of a new series. It is mesmerizing and terrifying, realistic and full of emotion. I highly recommend this book and I have to say my only complaint is that I cannot wait for the series to continue in book 2! This is one of those books you just can't stop reading because the characters seem so real and the suspense never stops. I was so sad when the book was over. Ms Blackburn is a talented writer with a penchant for creating a dynamic world of characters and dangerous scenarios for them. Readers of romantic suspense will adore this book. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
This book gripped me from the first page and kept me hooked the entire time. I didn't want to put this book down.
I loved the characters and how well they complimented eachother. The story flowed well and kept me guessing.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
*i received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review*
Some characters you meet again and again in Lynn Blackburn's novels and it's like meeting old friends. And there's always suspense mixed with a not so surprising love story. Faith and doubts play a natural role without being preachy.
