You cannot go wrong with Iris Johansen. Suspense. Twists. Turns. Gotta love it. Gotta love her writing.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! Iris Johansen does it again with this book. I loved the different story line (focused on a kidnapping at a major public event) and the focus on her Kendra Michaels character whom readers can’t help but love. It was fast paced novel with a great storyline and sets you up to see these characters again in future books.
I have followed and loved each of the books in the Kendra Michaels series. I especially enjoy the sections that show Kendra’s fine-tuned non-visual abilities to gather information. This book was a little different in that it was more personal rather than Kendra acting as a consultant for law enforcement. I feel that the supporting characters are a strong addition to this book in particular. The twists and turns in this story kept me in suspense. While this was not my favorite book of the series, it was an excellent read. I’m certainly looking forward to the next in the series.
I was a huge fan of Iris Johansen’s Eve Duncan series; as such, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read Blink of an Eye, written by Iris Johansen and her son Roy Johansen, who is an Edgar Award Winner, through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I’d not previously read any books in the Kendra Michael’s Series. Blink of an Eye is the 8th book. However, it is not necessary to read any of the prior books to enjoy this story.
Kendra Michael is an interesting character, formerly blind, now a consultant with the FBI, This book involves the kidnapping of a pop star during a costume change at one of her concerts and the convoluted efforts to rescue her. .
The story is fast paced, easy to read, and great for a pleasant diversion. However, the plot seemed far fetched and required me to suspend belief entirely too much. The motive felt hollow as well....particularly with regard to one accomplice.
Although it has been nearly a year since I binge read the first seven books in this exciting series by Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen, I was very excited to read the 8th book in the Kendra Michaels series, Blink of an Eye. Dr. Kendra Michaels had been blind since birth for twenty years, and had a very successful procedure that gave her sight. During those years, Kendra fine-tined her other senses. Now that she has her sight, her skills are beyond acceptable. A successful music therapist, Kendra has proved to be an invaluable consultant to the police, the FBI and even the CIA.
Her current case is much more personal, however. Her good friend, Jessie Mercado, who is also a private investigator, is a bodyguard to Delilah Winter, a young singer who has achieved Superstar status. Delilah has been kidnapped and Kendra will turn over every stone until Delilah is found. So, Kendra and Jessie work together, as well as former FBI Agent Adam Lynch, a love interest of Kendra's who has been in just about every book in this series. With occasional assistance from FBI Agents Griffin and Metcalf, Kendra, Jessie and Adam desperately try and find Delilah.
I have loved every book in this series, and have rated each book a steady 4 Stars. This book went up in my estimation and thus I gave it 5 Stars. This story was utterly thrilling and having gotten quite familiar with this fabulous series and all of the connecting characters, I felt like I was right in the the thick of things while reading this exciting book.
Not only do I love the principal characters in this book, I loved Delilah as well. She was a strong individual who gave as good as she got. While on the one hand I enjoyed watching the suspense, trying to discover the motive and the identity of the kidnapper, it was also a delight watching Delilah handle her situation. It was like watching two stories in real time. All while the suspense grew and the story flowed at a rapid pace, I loved the underlying connection between Kendra and Adam. What an enjoyable story to an engaging series. I am very hopeful for book #9 to come on the horizon.
Many thanks to Grand Central Publishing and to NetGalley for this ARC for review This is my honest opinion.
4.5 stars
This is the eighth book in the Kendra Michaels series by Iris & Roy Johansen.
This was a real exciting read. It keeps you on your toes the entire way through. Kendra is looking into the disappearance of a popular pop star. She is a lot lot Sherlock Holmes. She started out life blind and she pays attention to things most people miss.
Quite an unputdownable book, for sure! I did figure out who was behind it all and did a little fist pump when that was revealed at the end. Yay me!
I am really enjoying the characters in this series. I have a lot of this series in hardback and plan to do a marathon very soon.
Loved so much about it. If you like thriller, suspense mysteries, definitely check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.
I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.
I love Iris Johansen and I’ve read some of her books, mostly the Eve Duncan ones. I haven’t read a lot Kendra Michaels ones but enough to know the character and enjoy the setting and story line. Enjoyed this one from beginning to end. A real page turner.
Thank you netgally for the advance copy. I highly recommend books by Iris Johansen.
Step into the world of this high-pace thriller as Kendra Michaels races to solve another mystery. This one hits too close to home as her good friend is abducted at her own concert. More of your favorite characters join the race against time to save beloved singer Delilah Winter.
Can they all rescue Delilah before its too late? Trust me, the one who is responsible for all this will shock you. In the blink of an eye takes you on an adventure you won't soon forget!
Blink of an Eye by Iris and Roy Johansen was an excellent addition to the Kendra Michaels series. I really enjoyed how Kendra got to work with her friend Jessica so closely as they raced to save a famous rock artist who was kidnapped from one of her shows. I also loved that her and Lynch’s relationship is changing in each book.
The storyline in this book was well written and even though I had a small inkling of who the kidnapper was I enjoyed finding out why they did what they did and how Kendra and Lynch were going to save the day.
Blink of an Eye gets five out of five stars from me.
This is my maiden voyage into the world of Kendra Michaels. Even though this is the 8th in the series penned by the Johansens, this barn burning thriller adventure can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. The team of Roy and Iris seamlessly weave into the yarn the necessary back story. Kendra is a unique investigator with extensive powers of deduction and observation initially honed by her blindness as a youth and then blossomed with her return of sight by a miraculous new operative procedure. She can assemble the meaning and significance of ‘bread crumb” clues that most people miss. (She perceived the usage of the anesthetic agent propofol by the lingering characteristic smell of the soybean extract vehicle). She has used this remarkable skill set to aid in the investigations of both the FBI and the Justice Department.
Superstar singer and songwriter Delilah Winter is performing in front of eighteen thousand of her fans at the famous L.A. Hollywood Bowl. After finishing her act she walks back stage with the thunderous crowd chanting and cheering for an encore. Nothing happens for several minutes and suddenly the realization hits Kendra that something is wrong. Both Kendra and Jessie Mercado, being close friends with Delilah are attending the concert. Both rush backstage and witness the telltale signs of an abduction. This initiates only the beginning of non-stop action, filled with car chases, bullets flying, rescue attempts from submerged vehicles, and pursuit by motorcyclists armed with Uzis.
Jessie Mercado has forged a deep friendship with Delilah during her stint as director of her security team. Herself a private investigator with credentials forged from her service in Afghanistan . She is a long time friend of both Kendra and Delilah, and cherishes their friendship. Jessie and Kendra team together to aid the FBI and local police in the investigation of the kidnapping, and searching for clues to the identities of the kidnappers and their possible location. Days pass before finally a ransom demand is made. Projected on a twenty foot wall of a mausoleum in the famous Hollywood Forever Cemetery is the message and demands. “They” request twenty million dollars, in unmarked and consequential bills, in exchange for the release of Delilah with instructions to follow the next morning …. “one mistake and she will be gone in the BLINK OF AN EYE.” This is only the beginning, leading to double-crosses, with elaborate and convoluted instructions orchestrated by the crooks behind the kidnapping.
Multi billionaire and social media giant, Noah Calderon steps forward and offers to front the money. He states he has had a previous relationship with Delilah and wants to help and begins to take part in the investigation and planning for the ransom drop.
The Johansens weave a narrative overflowing with intrigue and mounting tension that escalates into multiple twisty and astonishing reveals that culminates into an exciting denouement. The staccato concise type dialogue and pacing results in a propulsive read with the pages flying by. The narrative is peppered with a low key and unobtrusive romantic angle that will not obviate the enjoyment for the male reader. Tangential but necessary is the exploration of the power of the bond of friendship. The bottom line: nothing profound here, just pure simple, unadulterated fun to gobble up like desert.
Thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for providing an Uncorrected Proof in exchange for an honest review. Excuse me, while I go download some of the earlier Kendra Michaels investigations.
A young pop star is kidnapped in the middle of her concert in the latest fast-paced Kendra Michaels thriller, Blink of an Eye. The star, Delilah, has a rabid fan base. Did one of them take their stalking up a notch? Or are the kidnappers hoping to make a major payday out of their crime? Either way, FBI consultant Kendra and her friend Jessie, a PI and former head of Delilah’s security team, must find Delilah before it’s too late.
Kendra has a fascinating backstory. Blind at birth, she has to rely on her other senses more than most people. When a miracle surgery returns her sight, she retains her observational skills and uses them to become almost like a modern-day Sherlock Holmes.
The mystery maintains a breath-taking pace all the way to the thrilling conclusion. I was enchanted by the characters and thrilled with the clever and twisty plot. Don’t miss this exciting thriller. 5 stars!
Thanks to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
Blink of an Eye is aptly named as things happen quickly. Being familiar with the characters added to my interest In this well crafted, intense story. My only disappointment was that the ending was not a surprise.
BLINK OF AN EYE will feed all the want-to-be detectives needs while throwing in heart-pounding danger and action that includes chase scenes and shoot outs, and the totally unexpected unveiling of an evil, twisted kidnapper.

One of the first things I realized upon starting this book was that it is part of a series...and pretty deep into the series. I've never read the others, so I had some difficulty understanding the complexities of the relationships between the characters, but was able to pick up enough to follow this story. I would definitely recommend going back and reading the others before picking this one up if you have the chance. That said, this is a fast-paced action-adventure story that fans of crime tv shows will really enjoy! They are investigating the kidnapping of a teenage rock star, and we follow the various parts of that journey. The ending, and the culprit, will leave you questioning all sorts of things!
Witnessing Kendra's magic of observation never gets old. Just like the kids at the academy she attended, I'm enthralled and love when she figures things out. In this eagerly anticipated book, it is even more of a suspense/thriller with Kendra's friend, Delilah missing. This is now very personal and Kendra pulls out all the stops to bring Delilah home, not only in one piece but alive.
Whilst this book can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading all the books in this series to understand the complicated relationship Kendra has with Lynch. He does appear as a white knight in shining armour again in this book, even though Kendra resents it. I find that their romantic interest in each other is out of synch. I understand Lynch's job is top secret at times, but he can't even leave a quick message saying "will miss you, work called"? Is that too much to ask? Will that violate something for his work as a breach of security? It just doesn't make sense because he calls her and he finishes his job so quickly and pulls in all kinds of favours when she is in need. Yet he can't do this one little thing? I don't know if this is supposed to be some kind of forced conflict so that Kendra doesn't end up with Lynch or what, but it is kind of pointless and I'm tired of it. For me, either get with Lynch or dump him, because it is getting in the way of the plot and story.
Kendra's friendship and partnering up with Jessie to help find Delilah is fantastic. I love the women friends around Kendra. They are supportive of each other and quite frankly, the men in these stories are either sycophants or jealous jerks. Other than perhaps Metcalf and Lynch, every man in this book is just worthless. I digress. The sleuthing part of this book is what keeps me reading on. I could not put this book down because I had an inkling of who kidnapped Delilah. The red herrings and the two steps backwards after finding each lead is what gave me the clue as to who did the dastardly deed. I enjoyed how the authors Johansen set this up and the tension and need to find Delilah is well done. I really liked how Kendra isn't perfect in this story and her mistakes had grave consequences. It makes her more human. I also like how even the best plans by Lynch can go sideways and become a complete FUBAR. This entire story is so well written and captivating. I cannot get enough of Kendra and I look forward to this series going on and on forever.
This suspense is highly recommended to readers who like hard hitting detective work.
After killing two dead security agents, kidnappers spirit superstar singer Delilah Winter out to a van and take off. Jessie Mercado, Dee’s close friend, and Kendra Michaels come backstage to congratulate Delilah, discover the disappearance, and give immediate pursuit.
Kendra and Jessie continue their efforts to find the kidnappers. The FBI becomes involved. And Dee’s old boyfriend, billionaire Noah Calderon, inserts himself in the investigation, providing the $20 million ransom demanded.
Iris and Roy Johansen craft another absorbing thriller featuring Kendra Michaels and her mysterious boyfriend Lynch. While the authors strategically place twists and red herrings, the mastermind is somewhat suspect midway in the story. The authors’ skills in fabricating well-developed characters, realistic dialogue, and intriguing relationships are exceptional and entertaining.
When pop star Delilah Winter is kidnapped in the middle of a show Kendra Michaels and Jessie Mercado are floored trying to figure out how it was done with them right there at the show. Kendra will use her powers of observation to come up with clues that will lead them to find the young singer.
Jessie Mercado was the the singer's former bodyguard and a military hero and will do whatever it takes to rescue her friend with the help of Kendra, Adam Lynch and the FBI.
When the abductor's identity and true purpose is revealed it will come as a shock to all with an unforgettable conclusion.
Iris and Roy Johansen come together with a creative story that readers can start the series on book 1 or book 8 and know every one and everything that is going on. The characters are interesting and have purpose and direction. The story has a great flow of action pack moments to quite thoughtfully moments. These author create an amazing story that readers will not be able to get enough of.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for the advance copy of Blink of an Eye by Iris and Roy Johansen.
Kendra Michaels' stories are some of my favorites and this one didn't disappoint. Full of action and friendship it's a tale weaved with such precision and care that you just can't put it down.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I really enjoy this series, but this time, this book was personal to Jessie, which is a first, and I just had a great time reading about these characters and this current case that they're working on!
This mystery into the abduction of Delilah Winter, who Jessie bodyguarded for a period of time, and who now feels driven to find her. And media always says the first 72 hours in a kidnapping is the most vital, and this book just go go goes so quickly! Loved watching them investigate and Kendra utilize her observational talents!
Of course, there's still some conflict between Kendra and Lynch leftover from the previous book. And they do work on it, but it starts off on a rough note because he hasn't communicated in a long time, working on a case in another country. Not cool, dude! But I enjoyed the developments in their relationship in this book!
The synopsis tells us that there's more to this abduction that it appears. But I didn't put together was that purpose was, I had to learn it when it was revealed, and it was shocking, but it totally worked for what we knew. It just made that ending so spectacular, I really enjoyed how it turned out!
This was another great read, and I'd love to continue this series!
